    The portability options are cool but man, $155 for only 5 outputs and 12/18V options seems steep when you can get a reputable supply and an extension cable for much less.

      I hear you. The components to make these are pretty expensive verses usual power supply components, because we are upscaling from 5v to 9v internally (hence 529) and we make everything here in California using only the best quality components- all extra costs but worth. We are all guitarists on the design and build teams and design and build with guitarists in mind. The 529 only weighs 3oz and will velcro onto the underneath of your board- no drilling or brackets needed :-)
      The main advantage in my opinion is no risk of mains hum etc when used with battery or USB and you can put your board wherever you like on stage when using a battery.

      Paul Shedden it only 9.9 watts of power at 9 volts. that thing cost more than parts I bought to my 20 watt amp project. yes going to 5 to 9v does add cost because of power switching circuit. I just do not see how it can cost so very much for what it does.

    You know you can just daisy chain a bunch of pedals with the volto right? I have 6 pedals off one output with no issues. As long as it's under like 2000mA or something.
    There's no AC connected so no ground loop is possible.

    • @paulshedden1404
      @paulshedden1404 6 років тому

      Yes you can, but usually this does cause noise in the signal chain especially with digital pedals (that have no or bad filters), which then affect all other pedals daisy chained. So I'm glad you have been lucky with yours. When the Volto stops recharging (all batteries do eventually), you have to throw it away. With the 529 you buy a new inexpensive 5v battery or use an alternative USB power source.

    I used to have a diy pedal that transforms 5v usb to 9v to use it with pedals, but that was like 5 year ago, the thing is that at that time, most mobile chargers were like 1A tops and very VERY noisy. Nowadays we have way better fast chargers quality with very good noise isolation.

    Get a boxking!
    More outlets
    9v through 24v
    10 in total
    And you'll be able to run all your pedals without being hooked up to the wall or anything else for that matter, and if you forget to charge it you can always charge it while you play.
    And if I'm not mistaken it's cheaper than the mission engineering.

    I wonder if there is any humming coming from this device? In the "old, regular, before-USB"-world, some power supplies insert an annoying inconsistency regarding power delivery, resulting in unwanted noise sideffects. If not, this small thing is really genious!

      Heya, I've made a pedalboard running on a 5000mah powerbank and 9v converter. It actually eliminated static altogether, and battery powered is almost always going to be cleaner than your houses circuit.

    • @JamesLebihan
      @JamesLebihan 6 років тому

      The difference with the 529 is the outputs are isolated, and I don't think they are on the Murig. Things like the murig and other similar very low cost supplies are not usually isolated, as that is where the cost is. Watch out, because many low cost supplies on places like Amazon and Ebay say they are isolated but they are not. For many people it doesn't matter, but if you have digital pedals it can be a real noise issue.

    i get the studio use, dont have to fiddle around with your pedal board to do pedal demos just leave this plugged in to your desktop and you are good to go. However, i see no logical reason to use this live? Maybe I just havent gigged in enough circumstances, but why would you want to even worry about a battery dying or something and just not sticking with a normal voodoo labs or some which provides more outputs for the money and just plugs into a normal wall socket which every venue should have. I may be over simplifying this one just went over my head a bit

    • @ViviSectia
      @ViviSectia 6 років тому

      I'd guess it's so you have the option to power your board if you want to play outdoors somewhere else where power can be an issue. It can also be useful if you're touring in another country where the wall jack is different and especially in areas where electricity can be really finicky.

We got over 20 hours running 5 pedals (non digital) and 8 hours with 4 plus one digital (Strymon). with 5v batteries being so cheap, you can afford to have a spare or use your smartphone back up battery if the worse did happen.
