Don't tell my family I bought a fancy crimper for Anderson power poles. Using the right tool for the job is how you get disowned in my family. 🙂
You had me at "universal crimping device", then you burst my balloon : ) This is a fantastic vid to introduce the topic, thanks Jim!
That looks like what I would do... now that you showed me.
Jim, I have been guilty as charged with channel locks - great summary of the tools you really need!
Excellent work Jim. The right tool for the right job is a thing indeed.
Dang Son! You got them crimpers crimpin!
Ya got me. I was all excited because I have the same channel locks, LOL.
I LIKE WHEN SOMEONE HAS THE TOOL IN THEIR HAD AND SAYS THIS IS WHAT YOUR DAD HAS 😂😂
in a emergency lineman pliars has a good place under the hinge the smash the connector. Great info Jim.
Great video, Jim. I initially tried to cheap out, and make due because I was too cheap to buy the right crimper; specifically for powerpole, but other times too.. Sometimes it would work, and sometimes I would have to start all over with a wire project. Pulled the trigger on the good crimpers, and life became much, much easier, lol. You taught me sum'm today; I didn't know the difference between non-insulated and insulated crimpers. I just 'mashed' the heck outta either one with the same crimper. Now you done gone and made me hafta buy a new tool. See you out there, 73 de Bill
I prefer to solder and crimp but usually I just solder. Soldering seems to create a more abrupt transition between the connector and the free wire which seems to break more quickly. Anything that isn't just for testing gets the wire tinned and if i have a crimper it gets crimped. Preferably in such a way that the tinned section of wire isn't sticking out.
I had always thought the seam on ring terminals went towards the convex side of the crimper. I should read directions more often :)
Great video!
Thanks Jim now i need to go but more tools. HAHAHA
AT NAPA AUTO PARTS THERE IS A COLOR CHART TO CROSS REFERENCE SIZE OF FARRELL SOLD . easy easy
I was willing to “Stick with you” on the Channelocks secret…Man that would be nice wouldn’t it? Really nice overview video and I shared it with a buddy.
Thanks! I know that most of us at one time or another has crimped with pliers, I just couldn't resist the troll...
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 HE SAID BUTT CONNECTORS 😂😂😂😂😂
Oh and I thought I had it bad for collecting crimpers!
great work ! so many crimpers . each crimp different. just need the right one. with them butt splice . do not use. found much better one. power Worx has the. they clear with different color bands. they fancy heat shrink. put the heat shrink on the wire. make a line man splice slide the heat shrink in place . use lighter or micro torch . shrink the ends first. then heat the center and melt the solder that is in the heat shrink. it is clear in center and you can watch the solder flow and make a great connection. it solders it self. all you need to do is strip put heat shrink on . splice then heat ends first then center and watch it solder . they neat. solder and flux is in heat shrink. you can see it. you heat the color rings on end first. best butt splice. 73's
