Fred Lee 100% agree. Wasn’t sure if Mark was interviewing Bob or himself. Learnt absolutely nothing about bounce and grind in this video...in fact, don’t think I learnt anything. Pity, feel like this was a wasted opportunity
I just watched this video and thought the same thing. He does it all the time to people, and it's so annoying, but with Bob Vokey?
This went both ways. Bob would speak over Mark then Mark would speak over Bob. Made it really hard to demultiplex the noise.

Omg I always use my 56 as a stock club for chips and bunker play around the green! The 60 only when really needed! So cool to hear that from Bob himself!

I think it was interesting, but there was a case of Mark leading the witness a lot. I think both Roger Cleveland and Pelz do a better job of discussing the nuances.

Vokey is a legend. I love the conversations with the great club makers and fitters. I always learn something new.

First of all, you are by far the best commentator i have come across. I loved the interview with Bob Vokey discussing the bounce and grind of wedges. I find it fascinating, and would like to see you do more VT's on the subject.
Have been fitted/playing 2up irons for years and have played wedges that are standard lie; this has been a great combo for me, considering myself a decent wedge player - playing a 56 & 60 SM6. It was nice to hear the master, Vokey, speak of playing wedges flatter. We may pay a bit more for Titleist, but I feel that you’re getting a much better product for it. Mark, nice job in getting a legend to convey some wisdom, that the average player would never have access to...

Enjoyed that. Not only knowledgeable but seems like a really nice guy. Got fitted and ended up with 3 wedges, 50, 54 and 58, based on gaping. They also adjusted lie for me. Had a great time doing it and they are working beautifully. I think the psychological aspect that they were fitted for me makes me believe in them and love them and helps with the results.
What degree is your PW?
Another great video with the builder. I could listen to him and scotty talk about their crafts all day. You can really see their passion when they start talking about how and why they do what they do.
Great stuff again. I literally had this exact issue before getting fitted. I had a LW at 60, a SW which was 54 and PW which was 43. Massive gaps. I got fitted and now have LW 60 SW 56 GW 50 PW 45. It made a great difference and put less stress on creating dynamic lofts and funking shots to plug the gaps.

Before your connection with Titliest I thought wrongly that they just another marketing company but how wrong was i they are a real class act these free golf vids are just amazing !!!
Had a Vokey SM4 for years. I recently went to Calloway MD3 52, 56, 60. It's all about feel and play-ability. I have Titeliest 716 AP2 irons but like the Calloway wedges a little bit more than the Vokeys. Great video. Bob seems like a very interesting fellow for us golf geeks to geek out to. Cheers bruh!!! Never thought about fittings for wedges so this has been an interesting video. Happy to report I use my sand wedge in almost all situations (I bought a 60 degree once and my coach told me the only time it should be left at home is any time I play golf).
Got fitted 2 weeks ago. They came in yesterday. 50F8 56S10 58M8. Fitting took an hour, very informative. Already have more confidence standing over the ball. Thanks Mark.
I’ve always bought wedges off the rack and I recently did a Vokey wedge fitting with one of his protégés and it was absolutely eye opening. Highly recommend it.
Mark....great to see you discussing the short game. Keep it coming. At some point in my golf game evolution, realizing I’m never going to hit the driver as far or my irons as far and accurate as the pros but given enough practice time, I could develop my short game (pitching, chipping and putting) to a very high standard. BV 56 degree wedges have been part of my improvement as well as chucking the 60 degree wedge and replacing it with a gap wedge. Takes the pressure off my game knowing I can frequently par a hole if I don’t hit the green. I say to all your viewers....forget the driver tech and club marketing hype and spend an hour or two every week practicing all types of wedge shots and putting. Bet handicaps will drop!

I've never played more than 56* on the course, SM6 M grind and I can do whatever I need to do with it. I play at a Links course so I have considered getting a low bounce 60* but I haven't found it necessary. 60s are fun to hit but they aren't the necessary club to put in your bag that amateurs are starting to think.

Great video! I was lucky enough to go through a Vokey wedge fitting (via my club), and though it was indoors in the middle of winter on a launch monitor, it was massively beneficial. Gapping was 90% of why I went through the fitting, and the rest was reaffirming that what I wanted and liked (as far as grind/bounce/shaft) was beneficial to my game.
Great vid and great advice. I had a Titleist wedge fitting at their St. Ives Centre last year. They were incredibly thorough, working through the gapping first then chipping and pitching from all sorts of different lies. For the time and effort involved in getting there, it's definitely worth it.
one of your best videos ever. My wedges are the scor wedges i have a 54 and a 58 with the vsole. I have a tendency to go more left as Vokey said so a degree flat as he recommended should really help as well as a 50 degree gap will be a definite help in my bag. thanks Mark.

Back in the 80's i carried 1, 3,and 5 wood, then in irons 2 thru sand wedge.
There was no need for a gap wedge and did not understand the need of a lob wedge.
I got fitted for my wedges and got a nice set of Edel wedges with the digger grind. Went with a 54 and 60 degree since my Mizunos came with a 50 gap wedge. Only use the 60 for short chips when I don’t want the ball to run or for 65/70 yard full shots. Definitely made me more confident with my wedges.
The tip on lay angle was very valuable. Not heard that before. Great vid brah! Thanks for doing all the driving !!

Great video. What a fantastic guy Bob is and very down to earth. I actually went with a set of 3 Cleveland RTX-3 wedges, in 50, 54, 58 for those gaps. Pitching wedge is at 46 so my short game works perfectly from 130, 115, 100 and 85 with those 4 clubs. Didn't get fit for them and I do regret that but watch copious amounts of reviews and tests, had a go of them in-store and trust the brand. Really helped my game dropping 4 shots off my handicap last year. I did drop the 3 iron to fit that 4th wedge in, a sacrifice that gave me bigger loft gaps at the top end of my bag but the wedges really do help my scoring. Highly recommend an extra wedge for those less skilled round the green like me!

Awesome video Mark. I've recently moved over to Titleist AP2 Irons and an old 56Deg Vokey Wedge. This is invaluable information as I'm just at the stage of a wedge fitting.
Great content once again. My PW is 45 degrees and I jump to a 54 wedge (my "go to" club for all shots close to the green) with a versatile grind. I've toyed around with a 50 degree gap wedge for those in between distances (60-90 meters) but I struggle with strike particularly on fuller shots with the gap wedge. I find the market doesn't offer enough cavity backed wedge options to match my cavity back pitching wedge and iron set. I don't have a problem with playing my bladed 54 degree wedge around the greens and pitching up to 50 meters but anything beyond that distance with a bladed wedge yields inconstant strikes ie fat shots that fall short and thin shots that motor past the green. I would much rather play shorter softer controlled shots that run onto the green with a cavity backed PW and not have too much distance dispersion upon low quality strikes. I think correct gapping is important however many recreational golfers play cavity backed iron sets and don't have the skill set or time to practice with bladed wedges so I think there is definitely room in the market for more forgiving wedge options to blend with cavity backed iron sets.
Great point bringing up the Lie angles. My initial thoughts since I am "2 up" on my irons was to get "2 up" in wedges. I actually found I am more accurate with them at stock lie angle. I have played many wedges and found that I just score lower with a 54 degree. I don't even know why. I just can play more shots with it and stop it quick or roll it out better. I recommend people play a round only using a 56 or 60 and keep track of their proximity with those on chips, pitches... You will find some surprising results and it will change the way you think about those clubs.
I never really thought about the way that I buy wedges... But know because of this video, I will definitely think more and get fitted for my next set of wedges! Thanks for the great videos! Thanks Mark!

I’ve had my irons loft and lie done today. My pro fitted me for 1 degree flatter on my wedge. Nice gapping and custom fitted. Get it done once a year due to swing changes after lessons

Great Vlog, loads of information. I will have to get my son to watch this he is hooked on needing a 64° lob wedge, and I like to tell him he just needs to learn how to play quarter and half wedge shots better, and to optimise the use of his 56 and 60 better.
Great vid Mark :-D I have bought my last 2 wedges based on my experience of having had a high bounce SW and a mid bounce GW and felt there was great versatility with the mid. Ended up buying and 52 and 58 both with 8deg bounce which was a change to my 3 wedge set up before. Really like the 58 rather than the 56 and 60 :-D

Always just relied on my PW and SW in the past. Just bought new irons and the PW is 44 degrees so definitely now need to look at a wedge to use close in as the new PW is making me over shoot a lot. Great Vlog!

For Years I carried Vokey 50, 54, & 58.
Summer of 2017, I went for a "Full Bag" replacement.
718 AP2 Irons, my 9 is 42 degrees and I chose a SM6 46 F as my PW,
50-08 F asGap.
AP2 5-9, 46 & 50 with Project X LZ 5.5 Shafts at 1 degree Flat.
54-10 V Grind and 58 -06 K Grind with P X LZ 5.0 Shafts and 2 Degrees Flat.
Inside Sixty Yards I have 3 Different Bounce/Grind combinations to suit various lies against the Ball Flight/Shape I Feel is Best for the given situation.

I picked my wedges buy best guess of playing conditions and my abilities. I play an SM7 52* which actually play about 6 degrees weaker than my AP1 48* and went with a 58* wedge for odd rescue type situation and bunker play. Both are one degree flat to match my irons. This set up has worked well so far early in the year.

Just ordered some Mizuno wedges to match my newly purchased irons. Going this week to check the lie and gapping of all the new clubs one last time before getting too deep into the season. Interestingly enough my fitter mentioned that some clubs lie may need to be adjusted differently than others. I'll be interested to see what he wants to do with my wedges. Great stuff!!!!!

Mark, for years I played an Adams 56/60/64 degree and carried the 60 or 64 depending on course. Pitching and Sand Wedge were the ones the came with my set Initially Tommy Armour III and then Callaway Big Bertha. Then I moved to Mac Daddy wedges in 54 and 58 degree to complement my Adam's blues use the Set Pitching Wedge, I have a Wilson 64 degree wedge for certain courses I play. I have recently tested a range of wedges from all the major manufactures and found I really like the Ping Stealth wedges. The weighting of the wedge is very different. I have found a far greater difference is the feel of the swing, ground interaction and sound in the last two years than I have ever noticed before. My 54 is my 85 yard and in club, and my 58 is my sand, flop club. Both work for chipping depending on if I have to stop it quick. I am just as happy to use a putter from from off the green or an iron and roll the ball if I have the opportunity.
I know how to make my ball spin backwards, but in all honest I would just as soon it stop or release slightly under most circumstances.
Wedges are the only clubs in my bag that get changed regularly. I am still happy playing the same driver I have used the last five years, and I picked up my Adams in 2016 replacing my 2004 Big Bertha''s, but the wedges wear more and give that I play a lot of executive and par 3 course (about twice a week) the wedge means more. Fortunately besides the big box stores that fit using indoor bays, most the manufactures except PXG tour local course and do demo days. (The beauty of living in Southern California).
I personally feel loft and spin are overrated metrics.There is another of your fellow coaches who fixates on loft. I am much more interested in flight, distance and how the ball reacts on hitting the ground. I want my hybrids and irons to react to the type of stroke I play, either stopping close to point of impact, or running.
I do think it's interesting to watch the major manufactures focus on wedges, and bring to market new wedges. Ultimately you have to try them much like balls. Every wedge says easy to hit, loads of spin. All golf balls promise long distance, soft feel. Ultimately you have to lay down some cash and test for yourself. The beauty of eBay is if you make a mistake you can cut your loses by selling the club unless you have your name stamped on it.
Hey Mark! I got the Mack Daddy 4 Chrome wedge 56 degrees for the bunker shots with 10 bounce. SM7 in 52 degrees with 8 bounce. I'm a netural divot player. Got custom fitted and those clubs work best for my game.

so good to hear Bob's opinion about lie angles on wedges, I have my (#Titleist) irons 1-degree up because of my full swing mechanics but have always had my wedges at standard...not because I was told to but because I manipulate my hands a lot when chipping and it gives me confidence that I can flatten out the swing if I need. My wife bought me a couple of wedges for my birthday many years ago. They were Adams Signature Series Copper. I think this is when Tom Watson was working with them. The sand wedge was a 56° with 12° of bounce. The lob wedge was 60° with 6° of bounce. After playing with them a couple of rounds I realized that the sole by the heel was very pronounced and didn't allow me to open the face without digging into the turf/ground particularly on a bare lie. Having a fairly complete shop, I ground the offending metal off both wedges and then buffed them nice and smooth. I'm still playing with them after all those years(I did have the faces redone twice by a friend so cost wasn't an issue) and won't replace them unless I have to. When Bob held up the one wedge with the heel ground off I realized that it looked just like mine. Who knew! I guess I missed out on a wedge grinding career! Great vid Mark!
Quality video I have black dot standard length in my ping iblades but have red dot and quarter inch shorter in my glide wedges

Thank you so much for asking Voke about lie. I have my wedges 1 degree flatter than my irons, and it feels good having that validated by Vokey. Sometimes I'm not sure if my ideas truly work in my favor and not against me.

I played Vokey wedges in 2015. 52°,57°, 62° with 56 bent 57° and 1 3/4 flat . I liked playing 4 wedges ,but always having to practice between 62 &57. 2016 I bought new Mizuno MP5 irons and liked the Blue S5 wedges, especially the soft feel. I also liked Coaches setup with 3 wedges, so I went 52° & 58° and it gave me a extra club higher up so I got to add a 2 iron. The lie angle is also 1 3/4° flat . I try and get fresh wedges every 2 years because I like my spin numbers to be between 2,000 and 12,000 rpm 😂

Hi Mark very interesting video. I got fit for my sm4 years ago got the gaping good 52,56,58 Just right and the bounce is good. For me I'm interested in the diffant grinds now avilble. Do u think I need new wedges.!!!?😂🤣🤔🤔

Hi Mark, I bought a new ironset last season with a bit stronger lofts. So my wedges don’t really fit the gaps anymore. Especially my 52. That one is my go to wedge is the only problem. I’m scared of having to change it for a 50. I’ve been playing these wedges for about 3 years now and I practice a lot. So they are pretty worn out. I plan on getting fit for my new wedges don’t know when I will buy them though.
I grew up with a 56 wedge from the 70’s. I can play my Vokey 56 SM6 just as well as a player with 60. I carry PW 47, 52 &56. Play of 7. Cheers

Buy my wedges purely on distance and feel, totally agree that spin isn’t overly important as that’s more down to conditions
Only trouble with getting fit for wedges, unless you can get out on the course with them, getting properly fit can be difficult

Always use Titleist wedges and living in Pinehurst where the ground is all sand based, switch them out every 18 months or so. Love the comment on flatter lie. Always do best when I lower the handle on sand shots and fatter has to be better.

I love my 56 degree and it is definitely my go to for pitching or most bunker shots. I only use my 60 degree if I need to get the ball up a bit faster
What grind 56 do u use ?
Hi mark just chosen some new mizuno wedges when use to play vokeys - my pro said he wanted to get me hitting more full shots with my wedges from 70 yards and in which was always a weak park of my game -I got fitted and he has reduced my bounce on all my wedges and this has improved my full shots dramatically. However I feel like I have lost the touch and dexterity I had with the vokeys around the green. Should you mix your bounces so you can have an all situations kind of approach? (I play 50,54&58)
I’ve also had half inch longer on shafts as per my irons and can tell the difference when taking bunker shots in particular - all in all not sure the set up is quite right!?!? But they look nice! 👍🏻#didntmentionspinonce
