    Lifesaver video. Another out here said to take the airbox out - not necessary. I have done many bettery swaps in my time but a first for me with the registration. I have an obdeleven for my audi and thought I needed something different but connected it to my wifes 2019 F56 that needed the new battery, I entered the vin of the car, and it prompted me to use the obdeleven 'basic' app (believe it said) and it routed me to google play. Installed, logged in, and it connected successfully as well as showed my avail acct credits for obd11. Did the dirty work with a Napa legend 80 AH 9894r I got for $233 with a disc code and completed the registration. What a great experience, awesome endorphins and probably saved 150 to 200 from a local shop.
    Also want to mention I connected a small battery charger to the negative and larger positive lead that attaches to the bracket and leans to the driver side. Covered everything so no shorts and moved them over before I pulled the old. Radio settings looked to have saved and maybe everything else.

      NICE! I have obd11 too and didn’t know it could do a battery registration, thanks for the info!

    Interesting how you took it out. The haynes manual says to take airbox out and slide the battery out under the cables. Not sure which way is easier lol. Still on my original battery with 60,000 miles since 2016 with cold NE winters but somehow still strong. It is a matter of time though.

    Thanks so much for this, spent yesterday evening watching step by step! Can't believe how difficult it is to change the battery on these things, but I guess my R56 had a battery under the rear seat(?) that I never had to change before selling it. ODB coming in the mail today after a quick work drive to the mountains. Also the price on the exact same Duralast Premium battery is now up to $250 after only a year!😬

      Glad it helped! Bummer the battery cost went up.

    You said all your settings were saved but I didn’t see you connect a jump kit?

    • @improvedgarage
      @improvedgarage  2 роки тому +1

      I didn’t connect a jump kit. It retained my coded settings from BimmerCode. The clock still needed to be reset.

      @@improvedgarage ah, cool okay. Same as what’s happening when my battery dies normally. Thank you for the video, attempting this now!

      hey, did you get this fixed? I can tear into mine tomorrow and see where that wire runs. sorry for the delay, busy work week and the channel suffered.

    Out of curiosity did you have to pay for full version of bimmer code to program the battery?

    • @improvedgarage
      @improvedgarage  Рік тому +2

      bimmerlink can do it, its 35.99 on the appstore. I bought it from the beginning so i really don't know if it would do it without paying for it.

      @@improvedgarage Sweet! Thanks I'll download app and see what OBD devices are compatible. I want to be able to do it myself, just paid over $500 for the dealer to do it.

    I have the same model and year mini cooper. It stayed in the parking garage for 1 month and I never started it, so its battery died. The battery was boosted and it worked, but the keys on the car's remote have not worked since then, it starts and stops the car and recognizes the car but does not lock or unlock it. Also, the tire pressure sensor is not working. What could be the cause and what is the solution? I would be very grateful if someone with knowledge could reply. :)

      Interesting, it honestly could be alot of things.
      i would start by trying to get any faults that are stored in the computer cleared, often when a battery goes dead the computers will get wonky and just need a reset to start doing their thing again.
      You can try resetting the TPMS using the radio controls,
      press menu
      go to vehicle information
      go to vehicle status
      choose reset tpms
      youll need to drive around for a mile or so
      You can try replacing the battery in the key, its possible that it is low or dead. If this doesnt work it may need to be reprogrammed using a scan tool that supports it.

      You only need to code if you change the battery.
      14.75 is high but should be fine

    Well this is a great video
    I am uncertain of my strength to do this
    You made it look easy!!
    I currently have been stuck on interstate and never want that to happen again..
    My battery is original 2015 with 53k
    Is it strange that brand new battery is only 3 year warranty!

    • @improvedgarage
      @improvedgarage  2 роки тому

      Batteries have a 3-5 year life expectancy. It depends a lot on conditions, cold temps, draining tasks like going to the drive inn could hurt them too. I test my battery when I change my oil and replace it before it fails. Being stranded sucks, and with my luck it would happen 3 hours from home.

      Sorry if my video disappointed you. I tried to show in detail the removal every step of the way, and how to code for the new battery which is the most confusing part. The installation is the reverse of the removal, I was trying to make the video as concise as possible.
