God review. The RAM Laramie with the EcoDiesel is an awesome piece of machinery. I'm not interested in an elect truck, though. As soon as you put some extra weight on any electric vehicle, it's range is *SERIOUSLY* affected. It essentially becomes useless for towing, or hauling any payload. In fact, the EcoDiesel is far more environmentally friendly than a purely electric powered vehicle. What would be truly amazing, would be for RAM to come out with a true hybrid system that could be mated with either of the current engines they have on offer. The EcoDiesel, the 6-cyl Pentastar, or the 5.7L HEMI. If they could manage to pull that off successfully, wherein the truck performance, handling and fuel economy didn't suffer with the hybrid section turned off (if needed), while pushing the fuel economy upwards of 40 MPG highway / 25-30 MPG city, that would be a game changer for a lot of people. I think it could be done, but they would need to use lighter/stronger materials to build the truck. Unfortunately, they'd probably gouge the consumers for it.
Awesome review as usual! I love getting the perspective of a “non-truck guy” as compared to the TFL fellas. Missed a couple of things though: In the rear floor, there are Ram Bins for storage. The bins have pull out liners that allow you to put ice and have cold drinks while on the road. They are very deep and can hide all manner of things from prying eyes. Second, the EcoDiesel is a $4995 option over the base 3.6 V6 Pentastar. The Hemi is $1495. The cost jump from the Hemi to the EcoDiesel is actually $3500.
I saw a video where a guy broke down whether the diesel upgrade was worth the cost in fuel savings. He said it took like 6 years to recoup the cost. Which is probably accurate more or less, but he failed to mention convienience. Spending like a 1/2 of the time at a gas, as well as you know, helping the environment. I definitely think that the hemi is irrelevant and is only there for people that want the loud scream of a V8.
Becareful driving a lot in the city could be a headache in the long run with the emission system, make sure you drive 20-30 min on the interstate every 2 weeks to keep your dpf clean. Short trips, in town driving, lots of idle time kills modern diesel when the emission system is in place. I own the previous gen never a issue but I drive more 75/25 highway/city with 80k miles of problem free ownership.
I had a 2013 Ram 2500 Cummins and drove like almost 95% city. Barely any towing and had no issues. We ll see how this engine goes. Plus it has a 5 year warranty so I’m not worried.
@@gigieinaudi24 Fiat has the experience with diesel, all of Europe does. No talk about VW. Has 100,000 engine warranty. standard 4x8 sheets of plywood definitely fit in the bed. Full size trucks fit plywood between the wheel wells, not over the wells, so by having the vertical sides in this box configuration doesn't actually do anything to hinder plywood fitment...
I wanted the EcoDiesel, but went with the Hemi because of the 10,000 dollar price premium in my area. 10k more, more for diesel, and DEF didnt equal a savings for me over the time I will own the truck. I will be waiting to see what Ram does with the new PHEV hybrid system that is coming out in the Wrangler in December of this year.
Less maintenance , will last over twice as long as a gas engine for the most part and is way more fuel efficient then the gas, I’d say you fumbled the bag on that one.
I'd love tbe ecodiesel if it was just a little faster. I get its about the torque and mpg but I feel if I had atleast 300+ hp it would be alot more fun, 480 lbs tq is awesome though
Should've used a 4.2 litre v6 cummins, that will make it as reliable as the hemi 5.7l. And 5.7 hemis beat the iforce because almost same reliability, but stronger.
I have a 2016 Ram ECO Diesel and I like the truck, but I have been waiting over a year for a recall part, the Diesel EGR Cooller . No one should have to wait that long for parts, FCA needs to get going on having there parts available.
@@rickysafer2895 I’m doing the same. Getting the same year but a hemi gas V8. Won’t get the same fuel economy but I won’t have a motor that will blow up anymore either. Thanks for the reply. Helps me make the decision.
So I've been doing research on these trucks. You can get any color you want with I think the sport appearance package. No darkened light assemblies or blacked out badges, but I think grills and bumpers get painted black. Not 100% on that.
The Tesla Cybertruck and the Rivian are not going to be relevant. Ram outsells the entire EV market in the United States, and it's not even the best selling truck in the pickup truck segment.
@@NisuUuno Everything will run out eventfully, including the coal and gas that you use to generate electricity for your EV "future". You do know that, right?
My cousin's EcoDiesel just blew up with only 110,000 miles on it. Dodge told him too bad, even though he bought the extended warranty to 100000 miles for $3500. After looking online, I see that this is a common problem. EcoDiesels are a POS. These engines should be able to get over 300000 miles before they are done. Do not buy.
Same happened to me this past summer. Was a 2015 ram ecodiesel with less than 90k miles. Since the truck was originally sold in Canada, FCA told me they wouldn't honor the warranty but would gladly sell me another one. Hell no!
Nice review! Just a few things. The Night editions are the other colors that you want other than black. They offer the majority of Ram's colors with same black trim as seen here(my favorite is Delmonico Red over black). 4x8 plywood does fit flatly between the Ramboxes. On the price of the diesel upcharge, not only does Ram allow diesel on every trim, the competition also ends up being more expensive because of it. Ram's surcharge over the V8s is comparable to Ford and GM, and in some cases less, again because you can get a Tradesman with diesel. No F150 XL(fleet only) or Chevy Silverado LS.(can't get a Trail Boss Custom diesel either). Oh, and a Ford F150 Limited costs $75k, as does a completely loaded GMC Denali, so the price of a loaded Ram is the price of admissions these days.
The RAM is better than my 2016 F150 Lariat in every way except one. WINDOW HEIGHT. The view out of my truck shows me easily 35% more of the road and my surroundings than the low profile glass design of the new RAMs. Seriously, go sit in an F150, then sit in a RAM. It's like going from a nice open escalator to an elevator.
I give this pickup a 9/10 for the interior & exterior styling. I seriously wonder why anyone would spend the extra $5,000 USD on that diesel engine though. Pay more for the engine and pay more for the fuel to run it. Here in Canada diesel costs around 10-20 cents more than regular gasoline.... it used to be the cheaper fuel (which is why I bought a diesel pickup back in 2005). As for torque, horsepower and mileage.... the Ford 3.5 litre Ecoboost in the Raptor or Unlimited gets my vote. Gobs of power and mileage isn’t much worse than this thing.
It really depends on what you do with it, how many miles annually you drive. Me I do 30k miles a year and tow/haul on the weekend never average less than 23 on a tank my 2015 ecodiesel, my buddys 2017 ecoboost is normally high teens with his style lower annual miles. Diesels get better economy while towing, and ecoboost or hemi will be around 8-12 while the ecodiesel is 12+ mpgs depending on the load. Not to mention ford recommend premium $2.99 and the hemi midgrade 2.59 vs diesel 1.859-1.99 in Colorado per gallon. I love the power of the ecoboost its fast with a trailer or not, but definitely if you don't drive a lot gasser all the way.
They don’t have massage seats but they do offer head up display, I’ve seen it, don’t fight me on this. The only option they don’t offer is the ‘fart suction seats’ Let’s, face it, we ALL pollute into our car seats, I’ve seen people do it, don’t fight me on this.

@Redline Reviews heated/cooled rear seats? reclining rear seats? i'd say it's on par with the grand wagoneer if you get one of those with the heated/cooled rear seat option because who doesn't like to be extra comfortable on long trips. the v6 option is probably a more fuel saving spec on that aswell
I wonder what the ram would be like if it had the 5.0L Cummins turbo V8 that was in the Nissan Titan XD (but it would need to be slightly detuned to meet emissions for the 1500 series trucks)
Der Schwindel nah that’s wasn’t the issue, the main failure was lack of sales and confusion on what the Titan XD was. The Titan XD was NOT a 2500 competitor, it was built to a middle ground between the 1500 and 2500 class (so like 2000) and the retuned 5.6 Endurance v8 and the 5.0 Cummins fit the bill perfectly! The owners I met when I was a porter at a Nissan dealer really liked them, but for most of them this was their first new truck. just the Titan doesn’t sell well. so Nissan and Cummins decided to split because of slow sales. Which sucks because no joke the Titan is a really good and comfortable truck and their 5.6 endurance v8 is really reliable, and you can find them for a good price used. But yet I like to own cars that you don’t see all the time, so this truck also appeals to me in that way too.
A V8 diesel in a 1/2 ton would almost axe the need for a 3/4 ton cummins truck. Besides that 5.0 cummins was not a very good powertrain. The eco diesel is the fuel efficient alternative to the hemi.
brjha I mean it would have to be retuned obviously but I think it would be better fit than the Fiat sourced eco diesel, and the main downfall of it was the transmission the engine itself was good for that weird 5/8 ton truck Nissan was going for
The 5.0L is a very heavy engine, about 900lb. alone, and I don't think that includes after treatment systems or a beefier transmission, which would be necessary to handle the torque. With that much weight, you'd have to increase the GVWR and upgrade the suspension just to maintain the payload rating, which would make it more than a 1/2 ton but still less than a 3/4 ton. Basically, it would be the Ram 1500 version of the Nissan Titan XD, and that segment was proven to not be so hot.
emdec55 yeah true it would be really heavy totally forgot about the weight, and really the main reason they made this weird in between class is because Nissan knew they would do way worse if they made a true 3/4 ton truck, they just got a lot of sales from people who don’t want a big 3/4 ton heavy duty truck but needs more than what a 1/2 ton could handle Plus it makes it possible to get a crew cab with a 8 foot bed and without having to get a bigger engine (as the XD could still have the 5.6 endurance v8 as the regular Titan)
Will this truck be good for a daily driver with a mix of city and freeway driving? I do not tow anything but may use it to haul some stuff here and there but that's it. I know they have mid size trucks but mpg not good and they are not as roomy and conforable as the 1/2 tons?
$75K FOR A PICKUP TRUCK!??! If I was a billionaire I would not spend $75K for a frickin' pickup truck whose original purpose was to carry lumber and such. It may be nice but it ain't no Porsche.

Air suspension will break down right after warranty and you will be screwed. Ten thousand dollar repair on a 100,000 truck...yikes! This 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel's MSRP sticker price is 75 grand. When you add in dealer options, dealer fees, registration, sales tax etc. you're looking at an out the door price of over 100 thousand dollars!
@@braetonwilson4296 you're on crack. You can get a new ram rn for anywhere 10-21k off.MSRP rn..you're a simp.
@@braetonwilson4296 eh....nobody pays sticker for any full-size truck(Raptor/TRX being the exception). This truck will likely be 10-12k off of sticker. And Ram /Jeep uses a "closed loop" air suspension that does not break down.
HellKitty 101 100 percent correct the air suspension don’t have as many failures as you’d think, plus I’m a former owner of a JGC Overland 2011 never had a problem with that vehicle and it’s air suspension.
@@seanjohn9343 Are you kidding me? I just bought a brand new 2020 Toyota Corolla LE for 17k out the door. No worries about air suspension breaking down. Super reliable, super fun to drive. Looks so sexy and sleek.
I wish we could combine the GM Silverado diesel with this truck’s rid and interior and Ford’s towing and hauling.
Love trucks with the body color bumpers. Ram and Sierra look especially clean.
Me too not a fan of Chrome except for on vintage cars
Keep the 8-speed 6-8 is the perfect amount of gears.
Yeah. Not a fan of fords 10spd, drove the need ranger and was not impressed with the trans, engine on the other hand was fantastic
Ok. I’ll tell all the Chrysler engineers to consult with you first before they design the next gen transmission.
@@RB-xv4si Ok troll whatever helps you get through your day.
There should be "hidden" rear seat storage under the floor mats, there are "Ram Bins" on either side of the truck near the door.
The cost jump from the Hemi to the EcoDiesel is actually $3500.
hemi is what id pick cuz it beats the i force

I have a 2020 Ram limited eco and no issues. Love the 25 mpg. My old 19 Ram 1500 hemi only got around 12 to 14. And I drive mainly city.
I have a 2022 Ram 1500 Rebel with the eco diesel. I'm at 90K miles and haven't had any issues with the truck. I highly recommend the GDE tune.
If it had a Cummins and a Aisin transmission, I would buy.

This diesel gets really great gas mileage. After about 430 miles, it uses approximately only 0 gallons of gas.
There is a night edition package for 2020 that gives the all blackout look to other colors. I just got a blacked out Laramie in billet silver.
standard 4x8 sheets of plywood definitely fit in the bed. Full size trucks fit plywood between the wheel wells, not over the wells, so by having the vertical sides in this box configuration doesn't actually do anything to hinder plywood fitment...
Guessing the Limited will be bought with a bunch of sub-prime 72-84 month auto loans
that massive screen really should at least be angled towards the driver, it looks like a real stretch
Don't buy a diesel Jeep...
The night edition blacks everything out too! Can be bought in any color!

I get its about the torque and mpg but I feel if I had atleast 300+ hp it would be alot more fun, 480 lbs tq is awesome though
put $2000 into it and it'll have 300+ easily
Should've used a 4.2 litre v6 cummins, that will make it as reliable as the hemi 5.7l. And 5.7 hemis beat the iforce because almost same reliability, but stronger.
5.7hemi not even close as reliable as 5.7 from Toyota....u wont gove 1 million miles.

I sold my 2017 Tacoma and am leaning towards the ram than the Tacoma
I'm getting a ram 1500 with a disel engine. I'm so excited
The great truck. Limited. The best diesel pick up
Apparently they forgot to fill up the AdBlue tank at the factory? Very strange that it needed a refill at such a low mileage.
The engine upgrade is $5k over the base V6 ... but only $3k more than the Hemi. Same as the Ford or Chevy .... it isn’t overpriced in comparison.
In Canada we get a “Sport” trim level which gives us the black on black, black on red and black on white colour schemes ;)
It's weird, every other review of the limited night edition has had a HUD. Idk if it's standard or an option but Ram definitely offers it
we need this in australia-looks better than the usual choices down here
If only ram distributes these trucks in the Philippines I love it
No, the GMC is not better. You can't have a trailer hitch on it and lower the tail gate without bashing the tailgate with the trailer hitch.
The interior quality in the Ram is WAY better than the GMC as well.

Hell no!
More trucks should come with the reclining rear seats option. Tundra 2013 was the last one to offered it and now ram as far I can remember.
It's still fast enough in person. Big heavy dude like myself can make it get up and go faster. It's called having heavy feet.
@Daniel Hernandez unfortunately, no. They do offer it on the Laramie, however.
I’ve had my Ram Rebel eco diesel for 4 months . Amazing truck , really nice ride
Ram has 0% financing for 84 months, the challenge there isn’t making the payments, it’s having a working vehicle at the end of 7 years.
The video production is getting really good! Great work guys!! When you are shooting in direct sunlight, I think there’s a lens cover that blocks the glare from the sun, I forgot what it’s called but I think it might your videos look even better.
You should definitely take more cars down Rt. 619. Great road for sports cars!
Basically, it would be the Ram 1500 version of the Nissan Titan XD, and that segment was proven to not be so hot.
emdec55 yeah true it would be really heavy totally forgot about the weight, and really the main reason they made this weird in between class is because Nissan knew they would do way worse if they made a true 3/4 ton truck, they just got a lot of sales from people who don’t want a big 3/4 ton heavy duty truck but needs more than what a 1/2 ton could handle
Plus it makes it possible to get a crew cab with a 8 foot bed and without having to get a bigger engine (as the XD could still have the 5.6 endurance v8 as the regular Titan)
Will this truck be good for a daily driver with a mix of city and freeway driving? I do not tow anything but may use it to haul some stuff here and there but that's it. I know they have mid size trucks but mpg not good and they are not as roomy and conforable as the 1/2 tons?
I miss my dodge truck, I’m about to trade in expedition back in lol especially with this new eco Diesel engine
