Thanks to everyone who contributed to this Video. I look forward to videos like this more often because they contain very useful and practical information, allowing me to progress in this hobby and enjoy it more consciously. Thank you.
Respectfully, for a beginner to truly be successful, the ‘Be Patient’ step should be at Step 3, before planting, while including more instruction for establishing the bacterial balance of the tank through methods such as dark start, used substrate/filter media, or starter bacteria. When I was new to the hobby, I used to get so frustrated watching videos of pro aquascapers building gorgeous scapes that seemed to thrive right away. While I constantly battled algae and dying plants in my newly setup tanks. But when I reset my expectation to starting a tank over two or three months, using dark start and slowly getting the system running and balanced, I really started to get similar results to what pros like Green Aqua get.
You are totally right. For beginners this video is very misleading. With a dark start things are much much more comfortable for a beginner. Like this you have to count with plant melting, lots of organic waste from plant changing to immerse form, brown, green algae, etc…
I don't know about "perfect" but it did have some good pointers on how to get started. I'd say if someone only watched this one video on how to start their first aquascape they'd be missing out on a number of pretty essential points
I would love to hear the amount of and frequency of water changes in the first month. Also, tablet and liquid fertilizer frequency. I have watched you for 5 years now and have found you to be an encyclopedia of knowledge for our hobby/profession. ❤ you guys.
Hello. Nice guide. However, there is no information about fertilizing this aquarium at the start. Maybe you can make a video about starting an aquarium and fertilizing it with Amazonia substrate, since you have so many tanks there. Greetings from Poland 😊
I loved this video and appreciate you guys taking the time out of make this. But can you please also make a video on short term and long term maintenance? What to expect in the first week of starting this aquarium? How to clean it, how to use suction to clean while not uprooting the plants, how to trim it, etc. Thank you
Amazing tank, can i ask do you turn on the filter while you are letting it to cycles for weeks? should i add dechlorination? should i change water every week? (1 month before adding live stock). Thank you.
I am trying to grow the following 1) Bucephalandra sp 'Needle leaf' 2) Ludwigia Glandulosa 3) Cuba 4) Eleocharis acicularis "Mini" 5) Alternanthera reineckii "Mini" Is using fertilizer The 2HR Aquarist APT 3 sufficient? How many hours of lighting do you think is necessary?
I fear for the maintenance of the tripatita. I almost regret planting it in my tank. But I'll credit the plant where credit dues, it's looks spectacular at its peak.
Hi, thank you for the great list of plants! I am writing them all down, but I don't know how many I should buy for a 65 gallon tank (approx 120x63x40 cm), any tips? How many did you use of each for this smaller tank? Thank you!
Is it okay to do a water change of 50% twice a week? Will it not harm shrimp, fish and snail? I feel like my tank needs more because it’s a little overstocked with not enough plant mass yet.
Please kindly answer my question, because this will help me a lot in my setup and experience of aquascaping. How many grams of power sand did you used for that particular tank setup? Just the average number is fine 🙏🏻
Also, forgot to add this along, is there any suggestion of any substrate that I could use to replace power sand which is similarly efficient as power sand. But still using the same concept of setup which is Aqua soil will be on top of the power sand substrate.
Fresh soil increases Amonia as per my knowledge, this causes plant melting, how to avoid this? Or let the soil settle first by adding water only for few days and add plants after some days.
You can use dark start, but we never had problem with it. The new type of soils are different as well. For example Amazonia ver 2 comes without the extra spike on ammonia
Also don't cheap out in plants! Buy enough in the beginning so they will help clean your water and take up excess nutriënts so algae don't have a lot to feed
Only if your filter pump is weak and you have issues with that. Air pump will do the aeration overnight, will help the bacteria activity and keep the balance. If you have a large enough filter this is not needed in most cases.
@@GreenAquaShop thank you for your reply. I have a JBL cristal profi E402 external filter with a 60p tank. I going to upgrade the filter medium today with seachem matrix and purigen as I got your delivery just now. 👍 Greetings from Belgium.
I mean...these videos are not free to produce. They are often sponsored by the mfg mentioned. Green Aqua also has subscribers who pay a monthly fee. If you want fewer brands mentioned, become part of the alternate source of revenue. They ARE a store. They stand behind the products they sell. They recommend various branded items (not always ADA) in other videos dependent upon size of tank and type of setup. Green Aqua creates the epitome of planted tanks and you can use the advice complete with name brand or buy an equivalent that sppeals to you. There aren't a ton of ADA products available near me without ordering from just a couple of North American suppliers, but I can tell you that the tweezer/pincers that I bought on vacation to Japan that are DOOA brand (also made by ADA) are my *favorite* tools to use by far. They are so much easier to work with than the unbranded Chinese ones I ordered and the name branded ones I bought locally. I think if you have the budget and choose to go with the ADA branded items, you probably won't regret it.
Unfortunately this video is very misleading for beginners. With no dark start you can count on plant melting, brown and green algae…. Why don’t you guys show the process, and not only the end result?
The dark start was not even a thing for decades. So you're saying that is the only way for a beginner? If something is misleading, that is it. We never used dark start. You can use this option just like the dry start, but not the only one. We've seen a ton of beginners build beautiful aquariums without it.
I don't think I would recommend ADA products for someones first planted aquarium. I would recommend something more affordable. It's like recommending a Ferrari for someone just trying to get into cars.

The goal of these videos is inspiration. Since not all the products are available on all markets and budgets as costs differ, it does not make sense to show the total price every time. A quality setup definitely has a higher cost. But all the details is in the description if someone is interested in a specific item.

Yea but green aqua isn’t using the dark start method I think.

I really love the contrast of only having the H’ra on one side and not the other. It offsets the bright green on the other side so well in my opinion!
The HC Japan carpet was a great idea, I haven't seen it used like this before.
It might be pain to maintain, because they like to climb.
That's got to be one of the best aquascape tutorials for beginners

I feel like my tank needs more because it’s a little overstocked with not enough plant mass yet.
No prob, just make sure the water parameters are similar. Temp, pH mainly. And if you use RO water replenish the minerals to acoid molting issues.
@@GreenAquaShopCan you guide us on using minerals in water ? I have seachem equilibrium and cause algae because I dosed it high. Nothing comes right
just 1 question, when you use soil ... do really have to change the soil every 3 years due lack of nutrition?
Lovely ❤
beautiful ! Hydrocotyle doesnt need too much maintenance ?
This tiny one can work without big maintenance. Stays low and compact. :) Larger ones are more "invasive"

Usually 2kg is enough for 60cm layout
There are no substitutions for power sand, but you can use other substrates to enrich the soil
Perfect 👌
What type/color of background (foil) has been used?
Thanks 😊

Where can I get similar drift wood?
Hello. What the font you was use for fish tank?
How come your drift woods never leak tannins? How did you guys do it? Thank you
We always use Purigen in the filters to remove water colors
@@GreenAquaShop I use Purigen as well but my water always gets discolored
For every 100L use 100ml Purigen. This is our general recommendation. You can use twice as much in special cases.

Hi, how deep ada power sand should be, for example1cm or more?
For a smaller aquarium that is enough, however with larger one this could be like 1/3 of the total soil too

I wonder if you need a air pomp in a planted tank with co2 ? And why ?
