FIY; keep your temperate around 82-86 F
and if you switch them to dry food, they like flakes and granules from the brand Tropical from santarem discus :)

Nice tank and setup. You said discus don't like a lot of minerals in their water. I agree with this and I wish more hobbyists did. Would help a lot I think. I'll sub for your discus vids!👍🐠🐠🐠🐠💯

i have bred discus myself for few years and here's my valuable advice to all of the viewers:
    - First and foremost, do your level best to keep the water clean or in other words, minimize ammonia and other pollutants (use a good quality filter). This will maintain your fishes' appetite. You only need to do a 10-15% water change once every 2 days. i use bare tank.
    - feed high quality granules if you think beefheart is too much work (Otohime is my top recommendation - 55-60% protein). In addition, you could do top dressing by spraying your granules with high quality vitamins. I go to extra length to ensure my pellets are wet with my own vitamin mixture and let it sit in the fridge for a few days where they will eventually dry up.
    - condition your fishes on granules when they reach 2-2.5cm (start with 500-650 microns and increase to 700-850 microns when they are 3cm and above. 1-1.5mm for adults depending on size.
    - i suggest feeding minimum 3 times a day - 7.30am / 1.30pm / 6.30pm. Lights out 2 hrs after last meal to allow your fish to properly digest the food. A very successful breeder shared this with me.
    - treat your fishes regularly for internal and external parasites. I do this once every mth and my fishes are fine so far.
Although i am not a professional, i hope this helps. It may or may not work for you.
    Cheers

Izabella, I recently did a Hikari PraziPro treatment on our 75g planted community tank. We (added in the last 5weeks) 6 discus fries from 1.25" to 2.75" in the tank that I suspected of having parasites/worms. One of the discus, have become extremely stunted and has not eaten in over a week. I usually feed 4x daily with a combination of beefheart mix, freeze dried bloodworms and flakes, but he refuses to take anything. 3 of the 6 passed worms the first 2 days and are doing quite well with the treatment. I'm at a loss with what to do with the stunted discus...any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! TIA

Hey I have a question. I have six juveniles and I was wondering. Would I be able to grow them out in a 20 gallon tank? I have a 75 planted and don’t want to stunt them. I also have a 40 gallon breeder planted as well but for my German blue rams. Been thinking about taking it down so my discus could grow out in there but I’m looking if alternative of a 20 gallon bare bottom will work.

Beautiful fish you have! Mine will not eat ANYTHING but frozen blood worms and a little bit of brine shrimps. They are 2-3 inches and I have a blue one that is stunted (I bought him online 7 months ago and it came like that, never grew). They won't touch pellets, nor flakes. I lost 5 of them due to probably hexamita (one by one they stopped eating and lost weight); I recently treated with Fish Zole (Metronidazole 500mg/20 gal) for 8 days and the rest seem to eat better. How do you make them eat dry food??

    • @AquazoneQC

If they refuse most foods it's due to internal parasites or water quality or water parameters . Check all of the above

I have a question not so much on stunting my four discus or about 3 1/2 inches I bought them about six or seven weeks ago I noticed not a lot of fecal matter on the sand and then I seen it today it looks like they are pooping White chunks.Could you tell me what that is and how I should treat it and should I move them to a hospital tank or treat the whole tank seeing there’s only four of them it’s a 50 gallon tank and the sump holds about 10 gallons any help would be appreciated thank you

    • @AquazoneQC

It sounds like tapeworms. Try prazi pro first and then plug in a good UV for prevention of parasitic spores ! If my advice works well lease gimme a good review on my FB page :)

    • @romcapprotti7477
      @romcapprotti7477 4 роки тому

Izabella AquaZone I have some prazi pro But no UV light. It’s strange because I had them in quarantine for about three or four weeks and I use that before I put them in my main tank.I only have four it’s a 50 gallon tank the sump holds a little over 10 so would you suggest just treat the whole tank instead of putting them in a quarantine tank and I’ll definitely give you a thumbs up if everything works but they seem to be fine are eating well They’re not acting sluggish they seem healthy but if it’s a parasite I want to get right on it thank you for the advice

    • @AquazoneQC

My 4 discus are around 2.5 inches and I've had them for 3 months and they are not growing. They are SUPER competitive feeders, even my 9in angelfish gets overwhelmed by them. They are very aggressive and fight with each other on sight. It's a 75 gallon btw. My other angelfish was smaller than them when I got him, but now he is around 5 inches already. I dont get it. 1 does seem to have gotten a little bigger, but the other 3 do not seem to be growing. They eat flakes, pellets, and brine shrimp and I know I feed them enough.

Tubifex worms have evolved to live in sewage they are the worst thing you can feed any fish. My discus wont even eat them. The best thing i have found to feed discus hands down is 1 your own grown feeder fish/shrimp, or if your not comfortable with feeding baby guppies and shrimp, then id go with mega marine algae mix from hikari mixed with frozen blood worms, and frozen spirulina brine shrimp. Its a frozen food mix with a ton of vegetation, and meat protien perfect for a discus that's a omnivore.
