  • "My Father, the Captain: Jacques-Yves Cousteau" revisits the adventure and the legacy of Captain Cousteau not only through intimate stories from his family but also from some of the people whose lives he influenced. In rediscovered footage of the earliest days of scuba diving, Jean-Michel Cousteau shows how his father brought the great unseen ocean into focus and into our homes. Jean-Michel and the next generation of Cousteau children, now adults, describe the legacy they have taken upon themselves to carry and cast a meaningful light on the life and work of a man who inspired millions to reconsider our relationship with the sea and its creatures.

I was a little girl in West Tx in a lower income family GLUED to the TV every single time he was on TV. I pointed at him regularly and said that I would do that! I have over 200 dives logged and I love the ocean so very much, I live on the Texas Coast now, beachside, and I love it every single day. Thank you so much for sharing your inspirations with us!

I watched Jacques Cousteau on t.v. as a young child. Later I read his books until the bindings broke. His works were fascinating, educational and poignant. I recall a narrative of his about a female octopus guarding her eggs, not eating, and thus in the end she withers away and dies. They were the most deeply moving words I have ever heard about an invertebrate. JYC's passion remains contagious as evidenced by the 20 million (or so) scuba divers world wide, who all owe him a debt of gratitude.

Our family was a big part of the Cousteau Society during the 1970’s with my father’s involvement. We were so blessed and honored to be a part of the movement. I look forward to seeing the show.
