Been loving all these videos man. Your mixes always sounds insane and youve been helping me more than alot of other channels. Do you have any acoustic treatment in the room you’re using?
I appreciate that a lot dude thank you! I don't have any treatment in my room at the moment. I mix exclusively on headphones and only really use my monitors for when I wanna just jam out to stuff. One day though... When I finally own a home I will have a proper room!
@@BlakeLW Sweet man! what headphones do you use? ive Been looking into the Steven slate vsx headphones. I have great monitors but no treatment as well (in the same boat haha)
Sorry for the late reply! I use the AT M50x headphones. The trick though is no matter what headphones you use, really and I mean REALLY spend a lot of time listening to what you think are good mixes in them. You will be able to reference more accurately if you do!
you should do the lead sound from stitch by wage war, it starts at 0:15 and is the wah type sound to it. i hear it in so many songs but can never figure out how to do it
I would love to see you figure out TEN56 massive guitar tone in general and specifically YENTA at 2:25. There tone is so unique and huge (and never seen anyone get it right) Also for picking palm push technique , you are pressing the strings closer into the pickup each time you pick right? Love what you have been doing and appreciate your hard work you put in your vids, they really help!!
I will see what I can do for you my man! The palm push technique I'm just barely pushing the side of my hand onto the strings to slow the vibration of the strings rather than trying to mute them entirely. Please let me know if that doesn't make sense lol, I'm kind of braindead when it comes to typing these things I appreciate the kind words, and I appreciate you 🙏
I'm working through a lot of different bands right now and figuring this kinda stuff out already, and I'm getting close. I'll make a video sometime soon covering it!
Alright homie, I got two request for you. I'm all about hard heavy hitting slam stuff/Breakdowns and have these two bands that do stuff like that all the time. In these songs they tend to stick out for me alot with their production. alright first off we got "Quitter Talk" from "Half Of me" there's a part that i can't quite put my finger on from 2:28 - 3:01, the whole part is super massive and huge with all the instruments plus added vox and when ever i try it, It seem like i can't get the hard low end slam that you hear when they play the first few chugs, it also seem likes they have a lot of control to what sound comes in and out like when you hear the guitars go silent for a split sec and slam back in for more impact, but i've already tryed that and i feel like its not hitting right. Sec request is "Aberrant Waltz' by "Disembodied Tyrant" its the begging intro to the song from 0:000:24 and its more so the guitars and what there playing for this one, I feel like there's this really cool harmonic that's being played during the chugs and not sure if its just a layer of different efx or if its the guitar its self ?
@BlakeLW Beast! Thank you so much. I have just tried it and sounds phenomenal! I added a couple more plugins to enhance the filth, I will comment it on the vid. So it helps with the algo
Hey Blake! Do you have a reaper template or a kind of mix template tour video? I'm just curious to see what all plugins you have going on, as I'm learning to produce right now!
Hey man, unfortunately I do not share my template, though my mixes can be boiled down to just these plugins: Distressor PRO Q3 PRO MB Flatline 2 FG-Grey JST Heat Slate Digital Fresh Air
Awesome! Can you try to get the exact black album tone? As in isolating Enter Sandman guitars and doing the chug until it's identical? BUT with the known settings for that album (in a vst) and maybe the Ola Englund impulse response? In that video he has the settings It sounds very different and I know it's because 2 things: 1 no iiC++ in the plugins i have only + and 2 they used weird mic techniques such as pointing mics to the ceiling. Anyways I know it can get very close by eqing the input and the output
Hey dude! Awesome video 🙏 Been in metal production for some time but just started mixing and your videos are great! Big fan of Buster as well and I really want to learn and experience new stuff like you guys do 😅 I wanted to ask you about the headphones you're using, at the moment I have some DT 770 Pro and I wanted to know your opinion on headphones in general, at the moment I am searching for a Open-Back pair since I heard they are better for mixing. I find the DTs being too harsh on highs and as I got used to them, all my mixes sound radioish while listening to other devices. If I can get some recommendations from you it will be great, have a good one!
I appreciate the kind words man!! Thank you! I swear by the m50x headphones, though they aren't really the best or anything. I think the trick to mixing in headphones is just listening to a LOT of music, specifically mixes you really like with them. You start to get accustomed to how a good mix SHOULD sound, and you can replicate it from there much easier. I spent a lot of my time referencing mixes I love in the beginning just so I can hear how things sit specifically, so it's a lot of work but very worth it in my opinion.
Do all DAWs come with the MB compressor and EQ plugins like these? I’m using Studio One 7 Pro now and just starting out with the who mixing and all of that. I know the basics of basic recording like in the beginning of the video 😂
While I'm not too familiar with Studio One, I'm fairly certain that there is stock plugins in every daw to achieve this. It may be a bit different depending on how well the stock plugins perform though
Random question did you bought the whole fabfilter total, bundle? (its quite expensive) or did you download it from somewhere for free?, also can you do a tutorial on how to make a humanitys last breath guitar tone, including the mixing and how to fit the guitars ij the mix
I've always wondered how to get similar sound to Magrudergrind - Bridgeburner or for example the whole Nails - Unsilent Death. I just can't get it right how to achieve this fuzzy, enormous, crispy and yet so soft, filling the whole room distortion? Is it that I have to record more than two guitar tracks panned L and R, or something I'm not understanding with the EQ or the whole chain with effect. It would be very helpful to if you give me any advice since I'm not that experienced. Anyways after all great vids man and thanks for doing them!
Another great examples are: Mass Extinction - Never-Ending Holocoust (There you can definitely hear what I'm talking about); My Minds Mine - Aftermath or Slave Abuse; Teethgrinder - Worthless.
Thank you! 🙏 Basically all of the screeches or scratches are pick scrapes. It really helps to have either ringmod on those parts or even just the processing I showed in the video because it makes them very shrill
hey thanks for sharing this technique with us the palm muting thing i sorta did myself but wasnt sure if anyone did it allready so i kinda kept it to myself :D but its a guitar not a frickin cave to explore, eventually people find out anyway^^ edit: maybe you can figure out how the guitar tone works in Suneater from Fractalize its such a huge tone
