Me too! I can remember being like 8 yrs old finding a sign language book at the library and practicing how to say a sentence. Been intrigued ever since.
Thank you for this, I'm trying to learn ASL as quickly as possible due to my friend slowly going deaf. I hope to surprise him when we go back to school in January!
I'm trying to learn it because I saw this video and was really inspired, though I may find only a small group of people I'll ever use it with, I can only imagine those conversations could be so rewarding.
Hi Maddie Abby :) I'm wondering how it went with your learning ASL? How's your friend adjusting to their new situation? Would you still say these videos are worth studying?
I'm learning because people who are deaf don't need to ONLY communicate with other people who are deaf, and I want to help get rid of that kind of stigma. And because I like talking to people, can't leave that out.
I've been going deaf since I was little and I'm doing a refresher course due to having a deaf child at my table last month-I'm a waitress. I love when others can communicate because lip reading is difficult when people talk to fast, especially my coworker's.
samee here I have no reason other than I don't want a deaf person to not be able to communicate with me. Make them feel better about them self. I have no one to practice with which makes it hard but I'm defo gonna learn. 😳
Isn't that the point? Learn to sign without subtitles. If you really want to learn it shouldn't be a bother. I replied it til I understood exactly what she was saying. Good luck in memorising. 👍🤞
As a child of a hearing impaired parent, one would have thought I would have had the opportunity to learn, and become comfortable, with ASL. But my parents only used abbreviated signs as my mother - has complete hearing loss - was embarrassed to sign. Instead, she learned to read lips and relied on that skill her whole life. (She is a pro at it too.) My siblings and I picked up on this skill, and actually use it ourselves despite being able to hear fine. There is a down side to reading lips. You need to be talking to the person - facing them - to either read lips or have yours read. (As children, we learned quickly, if you wanted to get away with something with mom, you didn't talk to her. But I confess, she had mad mom-radar. She knew anyway.) =) Now, as I am older, and have increased my pool of hearing impaired friends, I am finding your lessons so helpful in learning how to communicate. Because it is unfair, and disrespectful, to just assume every hearing impaired person I meet can read lips. Nor should I expect them to. Which is why it is important for me to learn ASL. So thank you. Thank you for taking the time to offer these videos. I appreciate the opportunity to better myself, and even the communication gap between myself and my friends - the ones I haven't met yet too. =)
thanx alot for making this series, i really want to learn how to sign as the girl of my literal dreams is mostly deaf, she can lip read but i want to be able to communicate back to her easily and know what shes signing too^^
you should try to learn braille. Learned it out of the dictionary in about 1-2 min. Once you spot the patternized system, the rest just logically follows said pattern. (along with some bonus words)
You know whats crazy is I first started watching this video about 6 or 7 months ago when I became interested in a deaf woman. At first, it was challenging to get the alphabet down. I'm watching all of your asl in 31 days videos again for a refresher and Im amazed at how much I dont really need to captions anymore. I give you props because you were the first series I started watching. Without you, my relationship wouldn't have had such an easy start. thank you for these
Thank you so much Rochelle Barlow! I didn't know it was possible for me to learn the ASL alphabet in less than 10 minutes. You make it look so easy, and you have a great way of explaining the do's and dont's. It's a good thing your a teacher, because you're great at it! Will continue to watch all your lessons.
Your channel is amazing- subbed and will be sharing! When I was younger, my mom did teach me alot about ASL. She was a social worker, and she had people she was helping who she wanted to communicated directly with, especially since she was helping children. Be it the child, a parents, both parents, or any combination. She did feel it was important for people to know, and I feel the same way. I remember so little of it- a few words and the alphabet- but even when I managed retail, just being able to say I only know a little sign language, finger spell slowly- really was able to help people out- at times?, but over the years it made me frustrated at myself- I used to know more, I should remember more. I have a friend who learned so she could teach her daughter, and I've seen her have the most amazing conversations with people on the street at times, where I know I'm missing out- How many random conversations have I had talking with wonderful new people in that moment, where I'm missing out on the same with how many other people? I came on here because I've been annoyed that I've forgotten so much for long enough, and when I typed in "learn sign language", your playlist for 31 days was the first one that showed, and I'm glad for it. Thank you! I'll watch in the morning and practice through the day... I really appreciate the time and effort you put into this! And I don't understand people complaining about captions- the way I have the laptop set up, I can't see the description if I'm looking at the video window- even if small... and I realized in under a second that the captions had to go on. In fact- I loved the fact that there was no talking- glance down, see the line- watch the signing- when learning another language I always did better with teachers who refused to speak English to the class- submerse yourself... glance down and really focus on what's being said in sign? That's going to definitely be part of what makes it all flow together and click- otherwise it's too easy to not pay attention during the conversation part of the instruction even if you don't mean to. How do you move from one word to another? My mom was always telling me when I was a kid that facial expressions were important when you were trying to get your points across- long before I could remotely think "It's hard to convey emotion typing", I remember thinking "Oh- that makes sense, it's hard to convey emotions with just your hands..." Sorry for the babble- but I'm really happy I found your channel! Thank you!
I have been wanting to learn how to use sign language and for some odd reason today i decided to look it up on youtube and your video was the one that i felt really comfortable with. I'm so excited about learning sign language and I hope that in 31 days i will be able to have a conversation with somebody in sign. I may not be the best at it but will make it my most effort to bang this out the park. Thank you so much for making these videos, you are an angel
Hi Rochelle. I am hearing but have wanted to learn the language since I've been 4 years old. My grandma and grandpa are deaf. It was always hard to communicate with them until now. You changed my life in a way. Now I want to be an interpreter when I'm older. Thank you so much for all have done. My dad and his two brother's know ASL but aren't to well since my grandparents moved to Florida, so now I can teach them. I love that you did this. And I am only 12 so now I can learn how deaf people can communicate. I love this. CC makes it easier, thank you so much. I hope you read this!!! These are the most useful videos I've ever seen in my life. Right now I'm day 19. But I'll be done soon!! I love this!!! Thank you so much!!!! I know said thanks like 6 times but u CHANGED MY LIFE!! Now I can talk to my grandparents. I don't even know you but changed my life. You deserve a pat on the back x10000000 ;) I hope I can get a response back. I may post this on every other day I watch. So I just want you to know how appreciative I am. You broke everything down for me. I get an order. I am FORCED to learn Spanish in school. And I always wanted to learn ASL. U are AMAZING!!! ;-O
I was in an ASL class in high school, but forgot most of what I've learned. That was about twenty years ago. Now, I have a student who is deaf, and I know just enough to pick out what he's saying generally, but I know that I'm getting some of my signs mixed up, probably confusing the poor kid. Anyway, watching this series is my attempt to relearn ASL so that I can communicate better with my student. Thank you, Rochelle! Side note: Apparently, I've been doing my M's and N's wrong all this time!
very nice...even though I know the alphabet, had no idea my fingers were positioned wrongly (like m and n) but I was taught by books as she explained was incorrect... I will be watching all of these. thank you!!!
I knew a little ASL years ago but without regular use the knowledge has faded. I watched the video through the first time without captions and was able to follow along and appreciated that there was no interpreter. It felt very immersive and I was able to focus on your signing instead of the captions to relearn my alphabet. I am so glad you've taken the time to make these videos.
I find your 31 days of learning ASL super helpful, I am studying to become a social worker/ pediatrician and I want to be able to help young kids that are def or not. These videos inspire me to be one of the few doctors that know ASL,
Thank you very much for putting in the time and effort to film these videos! I have a friend who is deaf and we get along pretty well because she is very good at lip reading but I really want to be able to communicate better with her! I am very excited to learn ASL!!
I met an elderly that was deaf at a scrapyard not to long ago. No one wanted to cash him out on his items that he brang to recycle because they couldn't understand him. It took about 3x the usual to get him out of there than a regular customer, but in that time I asked him to teach me hello, how are you? Its beautiful day and also have a good night. From what I interpreted after our short convo he told me in sign thank you for taking the time to listen and gestured a hug so I gave him one. That's why I'm on this page wanting to learn more. I can understand little but will continue to watch these videos and learn more so I can in the future have a full conversation with someone that cant use their voice.
Thank you so much for these lessons/videos. As a result of cancer treatment, I'm losing my hearing, and while I can still hear for now, my hearing will become progressively worse until I can't hear anymore. These lessons will he vital for my ability to communicate with others, so I greatly appreciate you!
thank you for this video so much!!! I've always wanted to learn ASL and since l'll hopefully be a nurse in four years I think learning ASL will be super important!!
This is important for me to learn. I am getting my degree in psychology, and there are so few therapists for hearing impaired people. I'm glad that you are learning this as a nurse! It could make such a difference. I can't imagine being so isolated.
Hey, before I continue the video, I just want to say thank you for taking the time to do this! I have been wanting to learn sign language for a while! I’m committing myself to 31 days starting today. I have many goals I want to achieve in 2018. Thank you for helping me reach my goal!
So glad I found this video. Becoming hard of hearing has been difficult and my three kids have learned ASL and communicate well. It’s something I’ve been putting off and a bit in denial about the need to learn this skill, especially as I get older and develop a greater need for it. Thanks for taking the time to share this.
Hi Rochelle. Your ASL lessons are amazing. And the way you have done it, silence & just pure signing (with captions) makes it so much easier & quicker to learn, that it should be titled "Learn ASL in 31 Hours"... Keep up the good work! :)
i love how these videos started with the alphabet first. as i have learned, a lot of words can't be translated into asl/it's difficult to learn the whole asl dictionary, so i'm glad you start with this to fill in any blanks that you might have :)
I am just learning ASL at 34 years old. There really is no deaf community in my area so resources are not as abundant as some places. I have had a very difficult time finding videos that actually help me. I have really enjoyed this first video and look forward to the rest. Thank you so much for sharing!
I have Multiple Sclerosis and I'm slowly losing my ability to speak. I'm glad I came across your videos! They have been the simplest way to learn I have found so far. Especially since I'm having to teach my entire family how to sign!
I am proud to say I understood at least 80% of what you said in the first 15 seconds, and I haven't actively signed in a decade. Thank you for the captions!
I learned sign language a long time ago, when I was in 3rd grade. I completely forgot and decided it's time to remember again. I wanna be able to talk to my customers while I'm serving them at my new job, and I'm VERY excited as I'm going to be watching many videos, especially yours. Thank for the help (literally all I remembered was the alphabet, "nice to meet you" and "my name is Tiago")
I understood some of what you said before I realized what you were saying. then I saw the description that said there's captions. xD I grew up using ASL because I'm mostly deaf but hardly used it until now. Thanks for the refresher course.
I had learned ASL as a child since both my grandparents were deaf. My father taught me, he grew up using it to communicate. Every now and then I still need a little refresher course, so I stop by your channel. :D Currently I am the only one at my place of work who knows how to sign (I work in a restaurant) and it has come in handy (what a nice pun ;D) when we have patrons who need to use ASL. I'm happy to be able to accommodate them so they can order comfortably.
I'm so excited to have found this! I have moderate to severe hearing loss, but I've been getting a lot of ear infections making my hearing worse and barring me from being able to wear my hearing aids. My husband has a good grasp on ASL but I've never learned. Just knowing the alphabet and learning is so quickly has helped us communicate so much better already! I'm excited for the rest of this series!
Whoa. Not a word spoken or captions and I still understood your instructions and tips the moment you signed them, without knowing ASL at all. Now THAT is teaching.
I am newly deaf and frustrated beyond belief. when I turn on the captions they cover some of the screen. so I can only see what you are doing above the captions. However you make me feel better about trying to learn how to deal with what I am going through. Thank you.
I know right...all youtube closed caption sucks... cus they left words out when someone actually said this.. I am not deaf.. but I know I heard something else what the people are talking about..closed caption does not cover most of what are people are talking about...
I just started learning ASL for fun, but it's so much easier to maintain than learning any other language. It's literally the only thing you can practice while simultaneously just speaking out loud so it's pretty easy not to forget what I've learned haha
My best friend is going deaf and I just moved to go to college and she only taught me a little bit of ASL. I appreciate you so much for doing these videos! Thank you!
When I was younger I had a friend who was deaf and I didn't know how to use sign language so I would always take a notebook with me whenever we would play together, it just made me feel a little bad because it was like we never got to truly communicate, so in case we ever meet again i'm trying my best to learn! Thank you for these amazing videos.
I learned the alphabet and some numbers in 5th grade because our teacher thought it necessary. I have the opportunity to go to school with a girl that is deaf. I've always wanted to learn ASL but now I have motivation. I want to be able to talk to her, even if just a small bit, without going through her translator. Thank you so much for these videos!!!
Hey, I just wanted to thank you for uploading the tutorial videos. Even though I am from Germany I want to learn ASL, because I have deaf friends and I want to do my best to communicate with them. I think it is a sign of respect to learn ASL for them and not only rely on their lip reading skills. ;)
I'm learning sign language because I have a memory burned into my brain from when I was a kid and I asked a deaf person on the street if I could pet their dog. They said they were deaf and since I had never met a deaf person before, I didn't know any sign language, and I was a kid who wasn't good at being exposed to new things, the encounter was really awkward and I feel really bad about it. So, I'm learning because I want to be able to communicate with everyone I meet. Also, I just think the language is really beautiful. You're communicating through pictures and stories, creating art, while oral English is linear and almost boring 😂. So thank you for this opportunity to learn and I appreciate how clear the video was!
I had taken a semester of sign language in middle school (decades ago). I had thought that (when I was learning it) it would be kinda cool to become an art teacher for the deaf. However, life threw many monkey wrenches @ me like being a caregiver for both parents before they passed as well as for both grandmas before they passed, I became homeless for nearly 4.5 yrs just trying to even get a job to provide for myself was a HUGE undertaking. I was bouncing from friend to friend staying with them for maybe only a couple of weeks @ a time. Eventually I got a job that I really loved, but ended up having to go onto full disability from because my own health reasons. The dream of being an art teacher to deaf children long forgotten until someone mentioned something to me the other day about how they'd given up on their childhood dream. I tuned into your video out of curiosity & was blessed by it. I know that I'll probably not ever become that art teacher to deaf kids @ this juncture of my life because my health won't let me. However, I DO want to re-learn sign language. I know how to do the alphabet, "my name is..." & the sign for "slow down," but the rest of what I had learnt all those decades ago is lost somewhere in my 50 yo brain that has "sometimers" (doesn't happen all the time 😉 just sometimes) moments in addition to dealing with fibromyalgia fog. Still, I would like to relearn it & more if at all possible. It was a blessing that I came across your channel. Thank you & God bless.
I really love how you used sign language in context, not just teaching words out of context. Like when you signed "if," I could realise that that was the sign for if and practice it.
Thank you very much for making this series! I've always wanted to learn how to sign, the fact that people can communicate completely non verbally has always been super cool to me. And of course I want to be able to talk to everybody, regardless of hearing ability. I live in a poor area so I don't have a lot of options to learn stuff like this, so an online series like this is very appreciated! Thank you again!
I am a substitute teacher and I have watched a few of your videos and you have taught me a lot. I will run into a person who signs and I had no idea what or how they were trying to communicate. Now i have some kind of clue of what they are saying. thank you.
Today I realized that, like many other things, there's a tutorial on UA-cam for that! I am very, very grateful for this video. I've struggled with Conductive hearing loss my whole life. I have abnormally small ear canals and have a lot of blockage because of that, and I've never been able to learn ASL... I'm glad I'll finally be able to. Thank you :)
Rochelle Barlow - Thank you kindly for your fantastic ASL tutorial. It has helped me learn a lot in a matter of minutes. Thanks again, I appreciate it.
I hadn't signed in years since I was 14 I'm 24 now that's 10 years. My friend taught me in 6th grade. we are still friends but we hardly see each other so its hard to sign all the time. But when I started watching your first video all of the memories started to come back. I think this is kind of like riding a bicycle you never forget but I'm going to continue to watch this and hopefully I'll learn something new. Maybe I can get her to talk to me on Skype and see what I've learned. Maybe should be really proud that I learned again!! Thank you so much for the inspiration!❤💘✌
Due to a incident I had as a child I am now (as an adult) going deaf. There are all kinds of free apps to learn all kinds of languages for free but none I have found for asl. Right now I lip-read but it has always boggled my mind that schools don't have classes to learn asl along with the mandatory spanish and French. I know many deaf ppl who never learned asl because there was no one to teach it. Thank you sincerely for these videos. I know there are other ways to communicate with ppl but they have really taken alot of stress off of my plate. And the best part is my children are learning as well. So thank you, thank you, thank you.✨🌟☺
wow! thank you! I recently found out I've got an APD, so I kinda have to walk around with ear plugs if I don't want to have a panic attack in public. learning ASL might be a way to continue to remain communicative even when things are too loud for me to handle and you're quite good at explaining this
Thank you for making these videos. I was born with a hearing impairment in my right ear and at 36 have finally decided to start learning in case something ever happens to my left ear. Also, I just think it would be nice to be able to communicate with other hearing impaired/deaf individuals.
I have a friend and he's deaf. We usually text or pass notes in order to communicate with each other. The school year is over and I'd like to surprise him with a bit of sign language. Thank you for making this video!
thank you so much for uploading this video. eventho it's already 3 years old. I decided to learn sign language because I JUST want to learn it! Always good to know things! You have a beautiful smile and watching you while practicing makes me laugh!
Thank you for this series! I'm autistic and i am in need of a alternative way to communicate if i can't physically talk in the current moment and was wanting to see if i could try ASL if someone i know can understand ASL!
Just want to thank you for the pace you sign to beginners. Lol...got a fighting chance to read the signs. You explain everything so well. I have seen other teaching videos but your videos make learning fun. You use great teaching tools and it all seems to relate to real life. And it is great that you offer or that we can get CC on your videos. Seems some folks don't offer that on their teaching videos. I get real lost quick.
Thank you so much for these videos! My husband and I are both hearing, but we have started watching these recently (we're spacing out our lessons to one or two a week to really soak in each list of words and practice them. We're enjoying it so much! We practice going over the words while we're walking our dogs every day. We've even used a bit while one of us is on a work call but need to say something (mostly finger spelling, but we'll get there). We don't know any deaf people, but if we ever meet them, we'll at least be able to communicate. I just started teaching my 8 year old nephew via video chat. He loves spelling words for me to figure out! Thanks again!
I learned the alphabet in 1st grade, but have never been able to remember f, g, k, p, q or x. However, I have recently decided to try to learn ASL, and after watching your video, I can actually remember them all! I'm so proud of myself! Thanks for the help! Also, I have to say that ASL gets really tricky if your hands are cold!!
I love these videos. I've been wanting to learn how to sign for quite some time and everything else I've tried hasn't worked. Yes, I'm a slow learner and it takes me awhile to learn stuff, but you're videos are fun and educational. And I can understand what you're trying to say. I can't wait to sign all the time and my friends will have no idea what I'm saying ... Thank you so much for you help.
We teach kids at my daycare sign language for certain things (like more, all done, milk, etc.), so it has inspired me to learn. Great first video! Looking forward to watching more!
I'm learning because i really want to be able to talk to the Broadway cast of Deaf West Spring Awakening at the stage door in December... your videos are so helpful! Thank you for making them.
Thank you for this video! I'm currently a student in college and I'll be in Nursing school next year! I am going to be an OB Nurse and I hope to get my Signing license so that I can talk with patients so that they understand what's going on during their visits. It'd be pretty cool to help pregnant mothers in labor. I can't imagine what it's like to be in labor and not understand what the Nurses and Doctors are saying. It's always good to have someone to talk to while in these situations. I also hope it will be useful one day outside of work. Hopefully I meet some friends along the way. I have felt drawn to learn sign language since I was a teenager, maybe I am suppose to learn for a specific reason. You never know. I might save someone from dying one day. I want to be helpful.
I really enjoy this (both the video and asl in general). The hand movements (exept the d) seem very, very natural. I learned the alphabet from another video and looked this up for some tips, but I'm so happy, because turns out I learned it well (without using a mirror, just doing what felt right and comfortable) so I don't have to unlearn anything. Thank you for this video, it was very clear. Have a great day!
aaaaaand I made my hand cramp. Thanks for these videos. I've wanted to learn ASL since I was a kid and now I can. I keep reading that it is best to learn from videos and not old text books. I can see why!
I started learning sign language in middle school and stopped because I started learning Spanish and French. I decided to come back to it after watching Nyle on ANTM Cycle 22, he was so inspiring and really encouraged me to start learning again so that I can connect with more people :)
Thank you for much for doing this! I have taken 2 ASL courses, but I never practiced after the courses completed, so I've lost most of what I knew. I am excited to refresh my memory & practice and make ASL stick!
Thank you!! You are a great teacher. I am using these videos as kind of like a text book replacement for an ASL course. I homeschool my children and my 8 year old daughter showed an interest in learning and I have always wanted to learn
Thank you for this, I just being diagnosed with Hearing Loss in both ears. I will be getting my hearing aids in a couple days. I know a little ASL I just need to learn more as I journey into this new life of not hearing as well as others. Today lesson was great. I will subscribe to your channel. Thank you
I watched this the first time through without captions and felt I understood most of what you said although I don't know any signs yet. you communicate very well! thank you I will be learning with this.
ASL is a beautiful language and I am excited to learn with you! Also be able to learn the tips and tricks of what to do and what not to do. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos! Day one down! :)
Thank you for doing this. I’m excited to continue watching and refreshing my signing “skills” lol!! I actually was considering going back to school and majoring in sign language to become an interpreter in some form. I’ve always had a love for ASL and got my kids involved with a group that would sign to Christian music and interpretive dance with sign language. It was beautiful. And for a while there they thought they would be sneaky and say things, thinking I didn’t know what they were saying lol!! Anyway.. thank you for posting these for newbies and refreshers lol
Wow, great video. I saw a how to sign the alphabet in a kid's magazine when I was about twelve, I learned from that but the drawings were so much harder to learn from than your video. You made sense of G H P and Q. I had no idea P was so similar to K. I'm learning this as a second language but I've been trying to learn from a book for years and can't keep them straight in my head. You also taught me how to relax a few of the letters which makes more sense so I will be checking out your other videos step by step. Thanks for making this.
Thank you so much for adding all the details and tips!!! I learned to finger spell from a book, and the few times that I tried to use it to communicate a name or word to Deaf clients at work, I got some funny looks. I think they appreciated that I was trying, but I was doing it all wrong. Hopefully I’ll do a bit better next time after finishing this video series, and actually be able to use more signs than just please, thank you, sorry and terrible shouty finger spelling :-)
I need to learn sign language for a school project, and this is great for getting basics down. Now, all I really have to worry about is the history. Thanks so much!
one of the hardest parts about this is just trying to keep my arm still, since i have a bunch of arm tics (just like twisting, flexing my arm and moving my fingers) so im hoping this will help me overcome that :)
This is a little difficult for me to understand without being able to see the letter of the alphabet on the screen. The hand movements are fluid and precise. I appreciate it
I've always wanted to learn sign language, and this entire playlist is a wonderful way to learn during this corona quarantine!
Yess I figured.. might as well learn something useful since I don’t have school
Yes🙌🏻
Thats what im doing as well
Me too! I can remember being like 8 yrs old finding a sign language book at the library and practicing how to say a sentence. Been intrigued ever since.
Since we aren’t in school I’ve been slacking off in my ASL class so this is helping me get back to the swing of things
Thank you for this, I'm trying to learn ASL as quickly as possible due to my friend slowly going deaf. I hope to surprise him when we go back to school in January!
+Maddie Abby you are a sweet friend :)
+Maddie Abby Have you been able to learn a lot :D?
I'm trying to learn it because I saw this video and was really inspired, though I may find only a small group of people I'll ever use it with, I can only imagine those conversations could be so rewarding.
I didnt think the captions would say what shes signing
youtube is awesome
Hi Maddie Abby :) I'm wondering how it went with your learning ASL? How's your friend adjusting to their new situation? Would you still say these videos are worth studying?
I'm learning because people who are deaf don't need to ONLY communicate with other people who are deaf, and I want to help get rid of that kind of stigma. And because I like talking to people, can't leave that out.
Cassie Townsend Me too. I want so badly to converse with the nice gentleman at our local theatre. So, here I go.
+Cassie Townsend Same here, I started a while ago, but stop because I have no one to practice with, but here I am trying again.
Me too!
I started to learn this because honestly I think it is kind of beautiful to speak like this, i look forward to your lessons
+Vandaleese same here!
Yes.
R3Dtxt me to
lol same
R3Dtxt same :)
I'm not deaf or mute, but I always wanted to learn sign language, so thanks for your channel!
*Same here..🖤🤍*
That was breathtaking. Thank you.
Me without subtitles: What is she saying!?"
Me after watching the whole video only to realize there's subtitles: 😐
Same 😅
Isn't that the point? Learn to sign without subtitles. If you really want to learn it shouldn't be a bother. I replied it til I understood exactly what she was saying. Good luck in memorising. 👍🤞
@@e.sdavila6579 Thanks, I was just being stupid at the time lmao.
How do you get the sub titles? 🌲🌝☘️
You saved me a lot of time!!!
i like how the letter "z" is literally just a "z" in the air lolz
And J also

Now, as I am older, and have increased my pool of hearing impaired friends, I am finding your lessons so helpful in learning how to communicate.
Shauna Strattonmeier great story
thanx alot for making this series, i really want to learn how to sign as the girl of my literal dreams is mostly deaf, she can lip read but i want to be able to communicate back to her easily and know what shes signing too^^
I think it's amazing how you are trying to learn. Good luck!
This is so cute wow the best of luck to you!
+mrlobster1287 How did it work out with the girl?
+mrlobster1287 that's sweet, and also the story line of at least 5 episodes in season 4 of switched at birth
Violet Smith I keep trying that link and it doesn't work. I guess he closed the blog?
Learnt this in a day. Never even met a deaf person, I just like learning new things lol
Random Dude same, I'm just looking for things to learn how to do and got this suggested by a friend
you should try to learn braille. Learned it out of the dictionary in about 1-2 min. Once you spot the patternized system, the rest just logically follows said pattern. (along with some bonus words)
That sounds like a good idea
same here
Learned this in an hour lollll things to do while breastfeeding
i paused my music to start this video and i feel kind of silly lmao
My mom was always telling me when I was a kid that facial expressions were important when you were trying to get your points across- long before I could remotely think "It's hard to convey emotion typing", I remember thinking "Oh- that makes sense, it's hard to convey emotions with just your hands..."
Sorry for the babble- but I'm really happy I found your channel!
I dont know why but I wanna learn this language too..I would feel ashamed if I cant talk like that when needed. Thanks for this tutorial 😊
I had all of them positioned properly or close too it but fingers just aren’t flexible, XDD
I knew a little ASL years ago but without regular use the knowledge has faded. I watched the video through the first time without captions and was able to follow along and appreciated that there was no interpreter. It felt very immersive and I was able to focus on your signing instead of the captions to relearn my alphabet. I am so glad you've taken the time to make these videos.
i LOVE how you do basic lessons AND you add captions for basic conversation words!!! so refreshing!!! thank you so so much, i'm obsessed!!!
I can't believe that I finally convinced my friends to learn asl because it would help us cheat in exams lol. It's gonna be a good ride
I really like these videos with no talking in them. I think I learn faster than listening to someone explain what the signs are. Thank you for these.
I'm learning ASL, and this video is really helping me begin my "journey" :))
thankyou
I am proud to say I understood at least 80% of what you said in the first 15 seconds, and I haven't actively signed in a decade. Thank you for the captions!
I learned sign language a long time ago, when I was in 3rd grade. I completely forgot and decided it's time to remember again. I wanna be able to talk to my customers while I'm serving them at my new job, and I'm VERY excited as I'm going to be watching many videos, especially yours. Thank for the help (literally all I remembered was the alphabet, "nice to meet you" and "my name is Tiago")
Rochelle is an excellent instructor. Her sign is very clear (different angles) and precise for beginners.
Thank you, I really respond to your style of teaching and appreciate your videos. Your "Dos" and "Don'ts" are super helpful.
One of my friends are deaf and you have no idea how much this helped out! Thanks so much!
My nephew is autistic and nonverbal. He signed his first word the other day so I figured I would start learning.
I am not deaf.. but I know I heard something else what the people are talking about..closed caption does not cover most of what are people are talking about...
hows the asl going?
@@ch1hvro I'm still sucking at it🙄
@@brendanurre1517 OOF hope ya do better :D
I just started learning ASL for fun, but it's so much easier to maintain than learning any other language. It's literally the only thing you can practice while simultaneously just speaking out loud so it's pretty easy not to forget what I've learned haha
i havent taken ASL in 3 years and i was soooo happy to see that i could still follow this. youre a great teacher
Im going into high school and i thought it would be really helpful to know ASL for general life needs, THANK YOU!!
Just done with day one. I officially know the ASL alphabet off by heart. Thankyou so much for this it's great!!♣️
Thank you very much for making this series!
Thanks! This helps a lot! I'm learning ASL because my neighbors are deaf and I would like to communicate with them using sign language. :)

[ignore this, it's just for me to skip to the start of the alphabet since i'm going to be going over this everyday :)]
So thank you, thank you, thank you.✨🌟☺
4:46 I'll save this, to practice everyday
wow! thank you! I recently found out I've got an APD, so I kinda have to walk around with ear plugs if I don't want to have a panic attack in public. learning ASL might be a way to continue to remain communicative even when things are too loud for me to handle and you're quite good at explaining this
You’re incredible and I’m so slow, but I’m trying
Good luck!
Rochelle, you are adorable! Thank you for providing these lessons! I love the way you teach, especially the not-to-dos! 😁
I really look forwards to the rest of this series. ASL is really a beautiful language, and I've always wanted to learn it. Thank you
Thank you for an amazing series. Of all the ASL lessons on UA-cam, yours is one of my favorites. You make it enjoyable and easy to learn.
We teach kids at my daycare sign language for certain things (like more, all done, milk, etc.), so it has inspired me to learn. Great first video! Looking forward to watching more!
I learned the entire asl alphabet 1 time around. Thanks for the amazing video.
No cap, watching this with the cc gives me some serious asmr tingles
Thank you
I learned more about signing in your 5 minute video than I did with three asl books and several apps.
I watch at first with captions, then turn them off. I love that I'm picking up the conversational pacing as well as learning the signs
