- Japan's majestic Mt. Fuji was some 700,000 years in the making, but on Tuesday morning, it was gone.
At least on one side of a busy road, views of the 12,388-foot-tall symbol of Japan and the Lawson convenience store beneath it have vanished, as officials finished erecting a barrier to obstruct a photo spot that had become a magnet tourists.
For locals, the mass of visitors and their refusal to obey rules on littering and parking had become a nuisance and traffic hazard.

I really think Japan is the only country that would be mad enough, if things with tourists got too out of hand, to completely ban tourists from entering Japan. I really do think that.
Japan is very poor in reality
So many things they rely on Southeast Asia especially Indonesia with natural resources
@@RIZFERDShow proof. That’s an outrageous comment.
@@RIZFERDjapan is hella rich boiiiii your just plain wrong
true. We've been on roughly the same safety island for 13,000 years now, so we're pretty obsessed with safety.
1st part wrong 2nd part yes they rich because of eveyerone and tourism does technically help them and largest economy in the world alone
Trashy people ruin everything
Like yourself
@@ac-tl3xilike ur mom
Poor Japan nothing special not even the mount Fuji
Karma Never Sleeps, Japan
It's a good idea. People should respect the places they visit.
Absolutely, they should make people wear masks because they are ugly.
All Lawson had to do was put a Taiwan flag on their roof. That would have stopped the tourists real quick.
How about making a tourist stop zone, or a tourist zone with parking lot, so that tourists can take pictures of Mount Fuji without disturbing anyone.
there most likely already place like that 😂 but the dum dum tourists probably want specific photo with what looks like a bus station or train station...there are obviously other places where they can take photos
They have dozens of spots now...Stupid tourists are going to stupid anyway.
I think the problem is also more so that tourists are trashy. Regardless of what designated area they are given, they are going to dirty and trash it up
I don't think it's entirely their fault though. I just don't think people are prepared for just how different the culture really is. I'm from Florida and have been to Japan twice, beautiful place but I had no idea how many rules there were regarding trash let alone other things
I think people either don't bother to learn the rules or think "what's the big deal?" and ignore them anyways
Better to take it all in feed the soul not the iPhone 😂
I get the sentiment but the solution seems... rather uninspired.
"... rather uninspired." ☝️🤓
Why not impose massive fines for illegal parking and littering; then employ a few wardens to enforce them. Not only might this solve the problem, it could also turn a profit for the community.
Believe me, Japans always turning a profit. These guys out Capitalized the Capitalist's.
Because most people would just leave the country at the end of their stay as normal without paying any fines, especially if they were "massive".
lol put the screen on the lawson store's roof.... that way even the tourists will find it hard to take photos
Respect
90% chinese
Chinese and Koreans
Well done👏
I hope this will put an end to dangerous behavior such as ignoring traffic signals.
it's more of a comment on contemporary tourism .. people only stop by for the photo. It also becomes, ironically, its own attraction
Those pesky tourists, good for nothing, maybe Japan should just ban tourism that would will show them. 🤔
Japan is so poor and ugly already only dumb people want to go to such a poor country
@@RIZFERD better than In🐶 imo
I was just there and a lot of people in the side of the road, which is pretty narrow. We walked to this Lawsons from where we stayed.
Are there any better ways? The black walls makes me (a Japanese guy) feel negative and separation with tourists and the secred Mt. Fuji.
Why does it only block the view for tourists? Do the locals have special eyesight?
I don't know if it is related to eyesight but the locals don't litter...
Funny observation
It'll block the view for everyone residing or visiting there, but it's targeted at the subsequent problems that an increase in tourism brings.
The locals follow the laws
I think its because its in the middle of the fkng road, always people littering and so on, blocking traffic, in what looks like a bus or train station...and basically being annoying bstrds.
I am sure there are designated places for that. not in the road or train stations and so on.
Locals don't gather in the middle of the street to gawk while littering. Tourists do.
Maybe I will cancel my trip to Japan
Good
Got to obey
Hold the line Japan. Don’t let intruders ruin your great country!
Great initiative
It's mostly people from Europe and Australia
Understandable.
Are the perpetuators foreign or local tourists?
Can’t they just go somewhere else a take a photo with the mountain
The reason this spot was so popular was because people liked the image of the shop with the mountain behind it in the photos. Apparently both things are considered “very Japanese” and quite iconic symbols of Japan.
The mountain also looked like it was sitting on top of the store.... I suppose it's kind of like that in the same way people like making it look like they are holding the Eiffel tower or Leaning Tower of Pisa in photos.
Anyway, the types of tourists who cause problems there and harass Geisha in Kyoto for a photo aren't going to have a problem with making a hole in that fabric sheet to get their photo.
Too many taking pictures
Typical Japanese approach 😂
This why Japan the way it is an the US is 💩 💯💯💯💯💯💯🤣
Yes, where emotional immaturity meets xenophobia.
that's a dumb solution. simply charge for entry, and use half of the revenue to pay people to guard and fine those who litter.
Well I went to Japan and I have to carry trash with me the whole day. Maybe placing some trash can at tourist trap area.....
People are not teaching respect and values anymore.
It's a shame some of those W Americans can disrespect other countries rules and think they're entitled to doing things their own way...
I mean, we did rebuild there country after they attacked us, so that was pretty cool.
近くに湖があるのでそっちで撮った方が遥かにいい写真が撮れるのに…
Move the mountain
Remember all this annoying Japanese tourists with their cameras in the 80s? 😅
Remember how they most likely didnt litter either?
@@Mkj119 Most likely isn't an argument
I once met a street busker who was filmed by a Japanese tourist. The tourist gave him no coin so the busker punched him and broke his video camera.........the busker got sent to jail
Remember all those annoying Japanese exchange students in the 80's like Long Duk Dong?
80's only ? also 90's and 2000's before pandemic
It would be profitable to buy the land of a dentist across from Lawson and make a cafe there. (^o^)👌
Sales of ✂️ scissors and knives to skyrocket...
Putting up a wall to block a view, totally unsocial behaviour.
If littering is a problem, no doubt an arrangement to give someone a job and pay someone to main the area could be achieved.
But no immature, emotional incontinence reigns.
Whaaaaaaatttttttttttttttt?
Way it's a problem to take picture to a mountain?
Why did government choose black color? They should choose more bright colors.
Based.
Must because they're trying to block the alien transmissions
today on "we're not a xenophobic country"
?!
Wait till the Africans come.
And they will be coming

Ahahah font gobbo japan so 🙅🏼♂️
Good grief this is petty
they gonna charge to look at mountains now?? people didn t look at it before???
How pathetic!
