Local officials in a Japanese town are erecting a barrier to block views of Mount Fuji. The popular social media spot near a convenience store has gone viral, drawing hundreds of unwanted tourists and causing overcrowding, littering and illegal parking. The new barrier is expected to be completed by mid-May 2024.

Misbehaved tourists RUINED IT FOR THE REST of THE TOURISTS
If you’ve been to China you will realise how bad local tourists are .
Most of the trouble-causing tourists are from Mainland China and Vietnam
All of them are misbehaving blocking the sidewalk standing on things littering.
Where is the barrier going to be? It's being reported that it'll be 8ft high - how will that block the view?
@@DavidZ4-gg3dm use your imagination dude what kind of question is that?
Respect to Japan for doing this. Most people nowadays think it is worth risking their lives just to take a photo and post it online😒
No risk at that Lawson parking area !
😂
Typical exaggerations by the local residents !
@@peekaboopeekaboo1165Probably it got overcrowded when tourists came in busload and big coaches also needed parking lots at that small area. Not just some individuals.
@@emilyl1094
The video showed no buses or coaches parked inside Lawson parking area .
🤷
@@peekaboopeekaboo1165 The coaches could be park somewhere nearby to wait for the tourists while they were taking photos n shopping at Lawson.
There is a dental clinic on opposite side of the road and the clinic and its patients are troubled every day by tourists with bad manners throwing trash, trespassing, not observing traffic regulations.
Tourists saying: “Oh yes, there are so many people, it’s not natural”, but still coming…
Dear tourists, please remember the old logic: “You’re not stuck in, you ARE the jam.”
His first time going there
Of course he would say that because he was already at the spot. Otherwise, he would have never known that the place has "lot's of people, it's not natural" (like what he saw on IG - didn't have a lot of people) if he never experienced (going there) himself or before he went there, he got the latest picture of the spot on IG (in which there's already a lot of people).
He was comparing the Instagram photo with the reality and it is unnatural in person.
@@shudoy9386yh but still they came anyway, thats the point
@@estevaoabel3439 - Let me answer. He wouldn't have come to the spot if he already knew that the place was crowded (not like what he saw on IG - not seen crowded). That's the point, anyway.
It wasn't covered in the video, but these tourists have been obstructing other businesses in this area. A dental office, Ibishi Dental Clinic, facing that Lawson and Mount Fuji, has been dealing with countless foreign tourists ignoring signs, going over their fences and trespassing onto their property to take photos of Mount Fuji and the Lawson. Crowds and other tourists illegally parking on their grounds all day long have prevented dental patients from being able to park their cars and use the clinic. Finally, many tourists sit on the steps of these local businesses, blocking customers, and eat meals and leave their trash, which staff and other local residents have to pick up several times a day.
How is an 8ft barrier going to prevent people from seeing Mount Fuji?
@@DavidZ4-gg3dm They're not trying to prevent tourists from seeing Mount Fuji. They're trying to discourage tourists from flocking to this particular spot in the neighborhood to take a photo of from certain angles of this specific lawson with Mount Fuji in the background to mimic the viral photos and video they saw on instagram and tiktok. Mount Fuji can be seen from anywhere in town and there are countless better viewing spots for tourists, but these tourists aren't actually interested in Mount Fuji. They just want to copy something they saw on social media. The town and local businesses have already tried using signs, other barriers, security guards and traffic police to discourage people.
@@DavidZ4-gg3dm use your brain David.
@@no_one00152 An 8ft barrier will be lower than the shop, so they'll still be able to take photos at the same place.
@@burakoshimazaki I am - 8ft is lower than the shop - they'll still be able to take photos in front of the barrier with Mount Fuji above it.
Those tourist complaining about other tourists. Hypocritical, aren't they contributing to the crowd as well?
I live in japan and i hate tourist crowds that's why i always went to this tourist spots at dawn 4-6am during spring and summer. I can enjoy the place where no one is around. And i rarely took photos.
Too many greedy OTAs and don't take me wrong. I support small businesses but the populism approach encouraged by the business is wrong. They took the easy make profit approach instead of encouraging various niches in tourism to support broad tourists interests...
It's like complaining about traffic on your way to work, you are the traffic
They're not complaining. They've been asked by the interviewer about their observations.
One of my lecturers two years ago said, "Industrialists exploit nature for the accumulation of wealth. Narcissists exploit nature for the accumulation of validation," when he satirized a number of domestic tourists in Yogyakarta who destroyed flowers in a garden to take photos.
Nice quote!
I saw this happening during cherry blossom season where I saw one tourist literally shaking the branches of the tree to get the effect of flowers falling in her shot!
I really hate this for people who have manners. Hopefully after time passes they will take down the restrictions put in place. But I absolutely understand why it’s been done.😕
This place is a residential area, just for your kind reminder.
I saw someone live stream just now and they walk past this Lawson and there'so many tourists(mainly Chinese) gathered outside the Lawson just to take photos and ended up blocking the traffic plus they keep crossing the road directly instead of using the pedestrian crossing so no wonder it caused a jam
Ah yes them again...
let me guess... they're all loud and obnoxious as if they're in their own home.
Yeah yes they are
I'm from a tropical resort island, and after becoming popular with Chinese tourists, our government had to put up signs in simplified Mandarin at our historical sites, landmarks and other points of interest telling them not to defecate there, because apparently that's a thing that was actually happening. 😐
@@rodazi
Whatever signs you out on, they will not follow your rules and laws, very disrespectful bunch of people who are unwelcome everywhere they go ‼️😣
Huge crowd of idiots standing in the middle of the parking lot and blocking cars, why am I not surprised they want to block the view?
Showing mostly China tourist 😂
and you know how they are as tourists
Worst tourist group
No other tourist groups are as entitled as them
@@makkurojokergod1262I'm chinese and I agree. Many are entitled and don't have any respect. Always cutting lines, littering, going in blocked off/restricted areas, etc. Even worse with big tour groups as they offer cheap prices and u get a lot of first time flyers that don't know basic manners, etiquette, or how to behave when traveling internationally.
How can you tell? They look the same as japanese
Can someone explain why an alley between two buildings is a popular spot to view Mt Fuji? There must be open vistas somewhere else.
The actual viewing spots might come with a fee for entry?
It's because tourists want to include the Lawson convenience store in the photo, as well as Mt. Fuji.
yah, can't u just walk behind the town & take pic? i don't get it.
I think the answer is marketing, mixed with social media. Maybe it was on IG at some point, then advertised in some brochures. I don't know. It's so such a weird spot to be so famous.
you could go up nearer the mountain. It's a very big mountain and you could view it from multiple cities. last time I was there they had a tourism spot where they sell the black eggs "cooked" by the heat of the mountain, I think it was just BS though.
Of all the places you can view Mt Fuji from.... and you chose to be in the middle of the road in front of an effing Lawson.
Yeah I was just thinking that aren't there are places that has a better view, I'm so confused why it's so famous
@@johnanhmmiiiapparently because of the juxtaposition of a Lawson conbini with the natural beauty of Mt. Fuji.
Also because Instagram and TikTok made it popular.
@@GDIGhostStalker I can see that but to annoy the people is just no for me, it can't be the only Lawson store near there to crowd and litter on the street. It made me so angry tbh
@@johnanhmmiii yeah, the crowding and disruption there is terrible. Doesn’t help that it’s right near a train station too.
Bad tourist behavior like that is why we can’t have nice things
Still a dumb place to take a photo. It will look best the mount Fuji ALONE. But I guesss people are just sheep.. they saw one person did it online and they all want to do it even if there is a better view..
Average generic tourist
Moments like this are why I wish virality can be stopped. Mount Fuji is very big and very beautiful. There's many, many vistas you can take it from. But to disturb the locals for the sake of it? These people forgot how important respect is to the Japanese and need to be taught lessons.
This is what I don't understand lol. There are so many unique vantage points to shoot at, yet everyone goes here. What a silly hivemind mentality.
@@randoomaccv8508 the moments they said they seeing it in Instagram, I know they're social media drones.
They are social media drones...
Internet vitality can't really be stopped tho. It might be easier for Japan to decline those "certain" tourist from entering the country. I'm not being racist but you got what i mean by certain tourist here.
Bla Bla, Iphones in Japan by law must have shutter sounds, because the Japanese themselves are mass offenders of making disrespectful pictures (you can literally google this). No other country has this problem
I came here when I went to Japan and had breakfast at that exact combini store. I didn’t know it was a tourist spot. I realized it after seeing some posts years later. There wasn’t any people taking pictures back then.
because, 2024 is toxic.
The view on Kawaguchiko station is far more superrior. The wooden building style with mount fuji as a backdrop is truly beautiful.
Its a residential area, yet the tourist mindset are known not to care, this isnt anything new really, mindless tourist would do whatever they can to get their only moment
All for the sake of posting the pictures or videos on social media..
Most people already forgotten how to enjoy the real-time experience thus, manners and respect are out the window as well.
Photos are part of the experience.
One of my pleasures is looking at my old photos of places I've been - it brings back memories and stories. And yes, I need to be in the photo too - as me being there is part of the memory and the experience.

It's really funny to see people complaining about the barrier in front of one particular convenience store in the comments. They're implicitly saying they're the very ones who wanted to go there just to get likes on social media. If they weren't, what would there to complain about in this video?😂
So the problem isnt just single tourists coming here. Its literally tour buses and tour groups bringing people to the spot
yes, there are your busses driving past the spot. But at least everyone in those busses are not getting out. Causing more littering and over crowding. The buses drive past for only a short amount of time. It’s more about the tourists on the ground, littering and blocking the road.
They do get out at some point
Also if they don't, the bus will go slowly to let the tourists take picture, which is also a problem
@@ArariaKAgelessTraveller like I said in the previous comment the busses will let tourists see the view which will mean the bus will slow down. I was replying to the main comment which was saying that the busses are more of the problem that the individual tourists. I was disagreeing with that.
nuts! How did it go viral in the first place, I don't see how that spot earned its fame? it's a very narrow frame/space between the buildings and you have the cables running in between. How?!
Look at all those clout chasers... yuck
its cringe as
A bunch of natural selection and disrespect culture just nothing about loser clout, no wonder why people always like that, those people don't have common sense
Combine chinese and female and you have the biggest clout chaser.
Life is such irony…..need tourist dollar to boost economy, don’t need tourist to boost problems…… how to strike balance 🤔🤔
Its a big question of the day!
Yea its indeed a problem. They need tourist for the money yet they want tourist to behave. So its difficult because not everyone behaves. Haha
@@sgpork its called respect and curtisy.
I don't take many photos any more when I travel these days. I prefer to find a quiet spot, seat there and just stare at the view for a long time. No photos needed now that it's in my memory 😊
Take one or two photos. Stop being dvmb
And people still ask why does Japan hate foreigners
without social media tourists have less incentive doing it, but with social media the need to flex is high.
What a shame
They’re causing so much trouble for a pic they’re probably never going to look for again or just gonna dump in social media
I had forgotten this channel is Chinese media.
It's strange the video is full of sounds in Chinese, but they are interviewing only westerners.
Impressionism is also a Chinese quality.
They should build a little elevated walkway like in north America, build it nearby so people can walk on it without obstructing traffic, put a guard on there to prevent people tossing trash, they are just going to find another spot to do this anyway
But why are the people drawn to that specific parking lot?
Tourists are a blessing and a curse. Mostly the latter.
There's Mount Mayon in the Philippines. It is like Mount Fuji but tropical. You can take unlimited photos. 📸
so you're telling me there are no other spots to see & take pix of Mt Fuji in that area?
Just install the curtain above the convenience store!
Why across the street?
Low quality tourists doesn't help much in the tourism economy. They're more of a headache.
Chinese ppl tend to stick to the famous tourist routes, snapping tons of photos as they go, and then moving on to the next spot once they’re done. I don’t get what’s so fun about it, to be honest…
Why is this a viral spot? Ive been to Japan and there are many more amazing views of Mt Fuji. Especially ones with a store not in the foreground. I dont get social media hype.
Ignoring traffic lights while crossing the road and staying on open roads is theoretically illegal and unsafe. Although it is disappointing, it is necessary to take measures for the safety of tourists and to prevent the uncertainty of possible punishment. There are many places to watch Mount Fuji
Can see where all the tourists are from...
One of the biggest mountains in the world and people cant find another vantage point?
I think the Japanese are way overreacting TBH. There's always rude people in every country but this feels like it's propaganda, it's an exaggeration IMHO. It's honestly not that bad.
Are you kidding? There were accidents and peoples propertys got invaded and destroyed. Japan has been way to calm all the years
Was there two days ago; not erected yet!!!
Local government should ban tourist companies from taking holiday makers to this area. It’s not a designated tourist destination afterall.
Those must be tourists from China, lol....
your insecurity is showing
Sinophobia is strong on this one
@@Mearex_ nah its just fact lol
In a sense, yes. People all take vacations at the same times, I saw a pictures of so many people stuck trying to get to the scenic location and they stuck in the crowd until the next day.
Nah Americans. Entitled, ignorant and rude.
There are much better looking and SAFER spots to take a picture with Mt. Fuji in the background...
One of them is Chureito Pagoda. You've likely seen it in a lot of pictures. You get a nice full view of Mt. Fuji AND a beautiful pagoda.
Obviously, just make the correct location go viral on social media. Pay 5 popular creators from each language to make videos about the spot you actually want tourists to be then they’ll go there.
So the best view of a mountain is from that one convenience store parking lot? Makes no sense
You can also try building an observation tower to split the scenic view of the mountain, though expect some dead bodies and split shattered cups in many crime scenes
They should put a huge billboard of Mount Fuji too
That's the stupidest thing I ever heard! Take a picture beside a major brand store...
That grocery store should build an observation deck on the roof of the building, charge people $ to go up for an unobstructed view and photo.
There are other places where you can take photos of Mount Fuji.
I think this barrier was a great idea, people need to learn not to be selfish for a photo and get in the way of other businesses and cause accidents it’s just a big mess overall
Cover it? If I was the owner start expanding parking lot. Parking lot payments. Start telling people to buy water to rehydrate. Thats a missed opportunity right there.
This is the Beatles Abbey road crosswalk all over again 🚶♂️➡️..🚶➡️..🚶♀️➡️..🚶♂️➡️
It's like Davis Street in Kennedy Town.
It is sad that a few ruin things for the rest. This also I would assume brought business to local stores... But now because people couldn't respect the area, we all loose out.
Honestly seems like they’re blocking the view out of spite lol. They could probably handle it better since they’re willing to spend on a construction project
These tourist interviewed don't even realise they are the problem lol.
They are not the real problem, the real problem are the entitled losers from mainland China who have no idea how to behave where ever they go...
So did they only just build that mountain? cause no one seemed to care about it last year
Maybe built a tourist center instead of a wall
Next up maybe in Kamakurakoko Mae station
People , people , people never seen a mountain before?
In real life? Not that many.
Have a limit too how many tourists can enter the country
They should create a viewing deck and charge entrance fee with a cap of certain numbers of tourist per day
1:39 you don't need to roast Kenrei so hard, just say she's a "lady of the evening"
These tours have been popping all over klook. Im not surprised it has gotten this far.

I wouldn't go there if they don't want outsiders to come. For fairness, people live near mount fuji shouldn't go to other places, too.
And these are the tourists that get frustrated because some restaurants and bars ban all tourists 😂

Areas with high numbers of foreign tourists are not in Japan, but are like India.
But why in front of a grocery store? Aren't there a million other vantage points to get pictures of Mt Fuji? Especially from nicer locations than a grocery store?
They could just go to mount fuji if they really want to take a photo instead of blocking the traffic and littering.
Every convenience store in that area have the same view like that..😂😂
just in case you guys didn't know, mount Fuji is a private property and not owned by the nation.
you honestly thing touriest is gonna respect that? even though they should..
Thailand build a beautiful spot for tourist to see Wat Arun.
Japan is really on a campaign against tourists lately. They’re ruining it for the rest of us that respect the culture and the people and want to experience Japan as it is instead of treating the entire country like a theme park
For a picture....
I did a project on this event in history 2 days ago lol.
It’s such a shame that badly behaved tourists haven’t just ruined it for the respectful tourists, but also the locals. I imagine it would have been a beautiful view the locals enjoyed being able to just see in everyday life, and now it’s ruined because tourists can’t behave themselves. When will people learn to be respectful when visiting other countries. 😞
Ah yes, we know the same tourists who come from a certain country who don't know how to behave any where else in the world either...
