Heard this on radio today in September 2020. Its been almost 40 years since I last heard this song. My god but it flooded back memories of me playing Chris de burgh albums when I had my first cassette player in the early 1980s. Still brilliant all these years later.
Chris' music is fantastic, have loved him for years. A fabulous composer and singer. Every song seems to be written from the heart. We have seen you many times in concert and can't get enough of your music. Keep touring Chris, you are the best!
I have tickets to see him in Halifax, Nova Scotia on May 11, 2012 and I absolutely cannot wait! This will be my third time seeing him live...he's incredible...always has been! I've been a huge fan for almost 30 years now.
I know this version since 1990. It was released on the "Don't Pay The Ferryman (live)" CDM as a bonus track and on the "High On Emotion"-VHS. Very fine singing of the audience also!
Supremo...
You can always rely on the Irish to take over a gig! We really get stuck in 😂 love this song ❤️ for the benefit of the young people watching - there lighters in the air not phones!
Only recently been listening to Chris via Spotify. I am in the States and expanding my liked musical genres. It's a beautiful song and I love the audience's participation
The cold north wind they call "La Bise" Is swirling round about my knees, Trees are crying leaves into the river; I'm huddled in this french cafe I never thought I'd see the day, But winter's here and summer's really over, Even the birds have packed up and gone, They're flying south with their song, And my love, she too has gone, she had to fly, Take care, it's such a lonely sky, They'll trap your wings my love and hold your flight, They'll build a cage and steal your only sky, Fly away, fly to me, fly when the wind is high, I'm sailing beside you in your lonely sky The old cathedral lights are low She and I we'd often go there To admire and sometimes kneel in prayer; Lords and ladies lie in stone, Hand in hand from long ago, And though their hands are cold they'll love forever, Even the choir rehearses those songs For Christmas is not long, And alone, I sing my song, she had to fly, Out there it's such a lonely sky, They'll trap your wings my love and hold your flight, They'll build a cage and steal your only sky, Fly away, fly to me, fly when the wind is high, I'm sailing beside you in your lonely sky, Fly away, fly to me, and if you need my love, I'm sailing beside you in your lonely sky I'll come in with the dawn, I'm sailing beside you in your lonely sky, On the wings of the morn, I'm sailing beside you in your lonely sky, Above the world we'll be flying, I'm sailing beside you in your lonely sky And though their hands are cold they'll love forever.
And my love, she too has gone, she had to fly, Take care, it's such a lonely sky, They'll trap your wings my love and hold your flight, They'll build a cage and steal your only sky, Fly away, fly to me, fly when the wind is high, I'm sailing beside you in your lonely sky...
@N3TTY40 in less than 3 weeks Chris is in Dublin again - perhaps you get another ticket for the concert? There will be great moments again with songs from his actual Moonfleet album and many, many old songs.
In West Covina CA I'm about to put on my white coat and strut my stuff show them what me and my boy can do under God's hands cause he has been waiting in ready
I look for one song but I do not find it.. In one line is : where dreams come true.. the melody is falling down after each verse.. please if someone knows wich song.. please tell me
Thanks Dad I'm ready to go let my company I know thanks I'm going to spend the night preparing and crying but nothing but cut business I need my car I got a job interview next week
This is such a poignant song and it's completely ruined by the audience. Sometimes you just need to know when to shut the f up, and enjoy something for what it is.
Are you stupid? He literally joined in with the crowd with this song and alot more too in the same night such as borderline, because that's what the whole experience is about. If you are going to cry about hearing the crowd sing along with him when there are literally thousands upon thousands of people there then you are just pathetic mate. Stop crying here and go listen to the studio recording from the album and not a recording from a pact concert dumbass🤦♂️

eu tinha 8 anos quando ouvi essa música pela primeira vez em 1975 adoro ela até hoje. são 43 anos de lonely sky.amo sempreeee
I remember it well great gig
The cold north wind they call "La Bise"
Is swirling round about my knees,
Trees are crying leaves into the river;
I'm huddled in this french cafe
I never thought I'd see the day,
But winter's here and summer's really over,
Even the birds have packed up and gone,
They're flying south with their song,
And my love, she too has gone, she had to fly,
Take care, it's such a lonely sky,
They'll trap your wings my love and hold your flight,
They'll build a cage and steal your only sky,
Fly away, fly to me, fly when the wind is high,
I'm sailing beside you in your lonely sky
The old cathedral lights are low
She and I we'd often go there
To admire and sometimes kneel in prayer;
Lords and ladies lie in stone,
Hand in hand from long ago,
And though their hands are cold they'll love forever,
Even the choir rehearses those songs
For Christmas is not long,
And alone, I sing my song, she had to fly,
Out there it's such a lonely sky,
They'll trap your wings my love and hold your flight,
They'll build a cage and steal your only sky,
Fly away, fly to me, fly when the wind is high,
I'm sailing beside you in your lonely sky,
Fly away, fly to me, and if you need my love,
I'm sailing beside you in your lonely sky
I'll come in with the dawn,
I'm sailing beside you in your lonely sky,
On the wings of the morn,
I'm sailing beside you in your lonely sky,
Above the world we'll be flying,
I'm sailing beside you in your lonely sky
And though their hands are cold they'll love forever.
Essa música me traz ótimas lembranças!

Heard this in Skibbereen in 1982 with Pauline mullins
And my love, she too has gone,
she had to fly,
Take care, it's such a lonely sky,
They'll trap your wings my love and hold your flight,
They'll build a cage and steal your only sky,
Fly away, fly to me, fly when the wind is high,
I'm sailing beside you in your lonely sky...

@N3TTY40 you lucky, lucky bugger!!
2018?
Apparently, he has an invisible friend in the sky and can telepathically communicate with it. Scary stuff for sure.
But his music is nice.
