Hey I would just like to say this is super useful but your wrong about one thing: you should pick up the cloth tunics, gold and silver coins, it covers the cost of the materials and then some, I hit the goal slightly under the projected time
Just to add, luck in Dawn does affect both soul and item drop rates the same, but the luck formula is broken so it essentially does nothing (99 luck gives less than a +1% drop rate increase)
Yeah, Dissonance, Aria and Dawn kinda borked the Luck stat. I'm glad the Soul Eater Ring doubles soul drop rates, 'cause that +5 luck ain't doing jack.
For anybody interested, you can upgrade the Cestus to the Whip Knuckle before selling it, and then it'll be selling for 8,500 instead of 3,000. All you need to do is farm the Slaughterer in the Wizardry Lab, which you'll have access to by the time the Soul Eater Ring shows up in the shop. So it'll cut the farm by 2/3rds.
It won't cut the farm by 2/3rds at all, in fact you'll get a negative return on the time you invest doing this, because the Zombie farming spot is way more than 3x as efficient as the Slaughterer.
@@SubmitToTheBiomass You’re absolutely right as it took twice the time to get the Slaughterer soul costing me an additional 2 hours for farming. When I stuck with the Zombie method solo, the souls spawned at a 3x times the rate allowing to collect up to $80,000 in under 30 minutes.
Actually, as far as Dawn of Sorrow goes, you CAN use rewind to get enemies to drop souls. It DOES work. At least so far that I've been playing it. I have farmed the Golem for strength souls and gotten it to proc a soul rewinding when it didn't before. Maybe there's more to it than that in the code but it's worth doing for some enemies where running out of the room would be more hassle than it's worth.
When combined with the Gold Ring, you actually make a LOT of money doing this! I recommend combining this with that ring that wants to do a lot of gold farming before the endgame, but is waiting to hold off a bit.
the problem is you get the gold ring pretty late and even then, walking forward to pick up sacks does cost quite a bit of time. its somewhat effective if you only pick up the first one or two drops
Rewinding does actually work, I did it with the iron golem soul. Just rewind and wait a little for the RNG to tick a bit more and try again. Not really worth doing with 1 hit monsters though cause it's slow.
I have been enjoying playing Dawn of Sorrow on the Switch, I might actually go and stack the platinum trophy for this collection despite having issues with Castlevania games thanks to this guide. :)
to correct rewinding to get would , the outcome of soul drops do change from the moment you press the attack button. I did extensive testing with the rewind feature when i successfully got a soul, reminded to before pressing the button and screwed myself out of getting a soul killed the enemy. It was not easy getting that soul to spawn again but it’s possible.
You can also grind Slaughterer. You can fuse your Cestus weapons into whip knuckles. Each slaughterer soul adds around 5500 profit, if you sell 9 of em at the same time, it turns out to be around 70000
rewinding for souls works, but its not worth it for the zombies. but its worth it for any enemy that needs a ton of hits or thats in the middle of a long room or something. just rewind before the kill, wait 3 seconds or so, then kill again. that moves ahead whatever determines the rng. you'll notice you do it right by the occassional changed coin or item drop. instead of boomerang, i usually use a mini devil summon with treant. you need to take fewer steps towards the zombies. if you do this later in game, when you opened the underground route under the wells, you can move between this room and yokos underground through the room with the axe armors. occassionally, you'll get a soul to upgrade an axe for extra money this way.
Quick note: you can see my gametime when I get the ring is 2 hr 50 min, and I wasted a lot of time. I imagine you could get this around the 2 hr 30 min mark easy. Also as an aside: Mandragora soul is GOAT for bullet. Use it the whole game and own.
Destroying every torch while exploring with the Golden ring equipped gave me the soul eater ring early in game almost "passively", since It gives a great chance to drop 500$ bag. Also i dunno If It is Just for me but the zombie soul Farm takes a time i dont want to spent with.
If you have it, I'd recommend having the gold ring equipped while doing the zombie room. I was average around 300-1500g per respawn. It the lamps above too.
In Order of Ecclesia, I farm really difficult stuff by rewinding and hitting with different timing. Its easy to prove this because now and then the enemy will drop coins or not depending on the seconds and RNG or whatever. I just got 3 gold ores in Minerva Prison Island from rewinding, it still sucked and took forever, but it would have been 20 times worse if I had to leave the screen and fight demons and tinman over again each time.
I can't be bothered to do much farming (except for the Chaos Ring), so I usually just go to Subterranean Hell after Puppet Master and slide kick through the spike room to get to the Gold Ring as soon as possible; that way I'll have most of the cash needed by endgame, and I can just sell some junk equipment and get the Soul Eater for the endgame soul farm.
@@JHFrank Bone Ark or Skeleton Ape + Puppet Master are the intended ways through, but with potions (and preferably some armor with good defense, like the Eversing) you can just brute force your way through with slide kicks. You can also use the Cutall special glitch to just warp to the left side of the spike room, but if you do this, make sure to stand back a little from the screen transition so the door doesn't push you out of bounds.
@@tristankoot2348 True, but I was just saying it was an option; I personally don't like using weapon specials to zip around (except to get the items in the sliding puzzle rooms in the Demon Guest House).
This is the earliest and quickest way yes, theres other methods like farming axe armor souls and buying axes, since its sells for more, and is fine any method since is only for the soul eater ring and yes the early you get the better, cause theres a lot souls worth having early and even leveling them up, like mini devil its the best souls to farm anything earlier, and for latter the best are killer clown, witch and mandragora for tankier enemies
rewind CAN and DOES affect drop rate BUT you have to reopen menu, maybe change a soul to change the rng,so depending on the difficulty and placement of the enemy, might or might not be worth trying
Been replaying the games through the collection in the past few months. One thing I've noticed is that they're especially stingy when it comes to money and shop in the Soma duology. It was pretty bad in Aria, but if you invested you could get a powerful weapon from the shop. Though problem was the shop weapons really were too powerful. You can pretty much mainly rely on the strongest shop weapon(s) until you start finding actual endgame stuff. For Dawn of Sorrow the shop weapons are almost the reverse. They're not that useful, but any use they could have is instantly negated by how insanely expensive they are. And souls in Dawn are just as bad. It was doable in Aria, but in Dawn even 2 star souls can easily take over 100 kills (also doesn't help that luck is completely broken in both games and they never fixed it for the collection either). Oh well, on to the grind...
Correction, you actually get the Rare Ring at the start of the game if you have Aria of Sorrow in the GBA slot when you start the game. Also, the luck stat is broken in this game so its practically pointless to even use souls or items to boost it.
Am I the only one who would’ve killed hammer by now and just stolen the ring if I was Soma just to save everyone’s life and save the world for the greater good
My suggestion is from the start of the game use a spear, as you can upgrade halberd in the very first area. After that just farm whatever best suits you. Axes are extremely powerful all game and great swords have my personal favorite final upgrade.
Do you think it worth the time to go farm the slaughterer soul too for another knuckle upgrade from cesuts and higher sale price? The are in the wizard lab only a teleporter away
@@ThreeMinuteGaming it seems the Axe Armor -> Manitcore path for Bhuj is popular too. That gives an arc that can help with the slaughterer farm in the room with 5 of them in the 3 floor room in Wizard Lab. The question is whether the extra time to travel from the teleporter to that section for the those to promote Brass -> Cestus -> next knuckle, gives enough ROI
This guide was awesome. I got enough money in less than 1 hour. The rewind feature is actually very useful because it allows you to exit the door as soon as you throw the boomerang. If a soul appears but you exit the room before you can react, rewind just before you accidentally exit. This basically allows you to farm 2x quicker than waiting for all zombies to die and react to see if they drop a soul❤
2:40 I should mention, the rewind function does affect soul and item drop rates. I got sick of the running back and forth and just rewound it on the last hit for the iron golem. Within about 30 or so rewinds I did manage to get the soul to spawn
Thanks for the guide. It's just silly that the game's entire gimmick is collecting monster souls and it will barely give you anything unless you grind for it. The ring makes it less tedious.
Last I checked this is a 1:1 rom dump with the ds (no bugfixes) so it should work though I haven't tested it yet. I say that because stuff like the infinite quest rewards glitch from Portrait of Ruin is still there in the US version.
Black Panther only spawns near the end of the last area of the game so if you wait until then you'll have to backtrack to farm souls rather than just having it the whole game. But like I said in the video, up to you. I find it a lot easier to get weapons upgraded if I have soul eater early
That's just from upgrading Cestus to Whip Knuckle. Brass Knuckles -> Cestus are still Zombies. Don't bother upgrading the Cestus the farm vs price increase isn't worth it.
@@ThreeMinuteGamingoh yea. Thanks. Not to mention the frequent 100 fold & cloth tunic you can accumulate doing this. Hammer is just salty you won’t become his wingman to Yoko😂
@@JayVGBND It's not even worth picking up the gold coins or cloth tunics. You have to pick up 28 gold coins just to break even on the profit you'd have made from selling a single Cestus, and in the time it took you to make those 28 pickups you could have farmed several more Zombie souls. Then the cloth tunic is even worse because it's effectively a gold coin with the additional inconvenience of having to sell it.
Meh, it's more sensible to just sell all the crap you amass while playing through the game. One would usually hit 300,000$ naturally at something like the half of 3/5 of the game, assuming everything of value gets sold.
I have no idea what you were trying to say when you said "like the half of 3/5 of the game", but the problem with your argument is that it ignores the opportunity cost of not having the ring equipped while you're playing through all those areas. If you grind for the ring immediately after it becomes available then you will get a lot of extra souls just for having it equipped for the rest of the game.

Just to add, luck in Dawn does affect both soul and item drop rates the same, but the luck formula is broken so it essentially does nothing (99 luck gives less than a +1% drop rate increase)
Makes me wonder if the drop rates overall were supposed to be better because they'd be based on luck...
Yeah, Dissonance, Aria and Dawn kinda borked the Luck stat. I'm glad the Soul Eater Ring doubles soul drop rates, 'cause that +5 luck ain't doing jack.
LOL yeah the luck rates are broken, 9 ghost dances+99 luck+rings mean NOTHING! Thankfully Definitive Edition patch makes the luck stat usable
It has an effect but falls off a cliff after 36
You'd think they'd fix that or adjust it for the port. Kind of lame.
This is so handy, gonna use this instead of banging my head against soul drop rates. Thanks for the guide!
