    What a great (and easy) pattern. Fast construction but looks more complicated than a typical one block quilt.

      It is a bit magical, isn't it? I love the way the pattern emerges across two rows but you have to trust when you put a single row together and it doesn't look right!

    Very fun. I immediately of strip piecing fat eights that have been cut half to 4.5" with the background strips sewn on then subcut to 2.5". Thanks for reminding me of this pattern xxx

    • @bitspiecesquilting
      @bitspiecesquilting  9 місяців тому +1

      Hi Alexandra - double check the video for the dimensions - the printed fabric is 2.5x4 inches (the background pieces are 2.5x4.5 and 2.5 inch squares). You won't get the same effect if you cut the background rectangles to 2.5x4.5. But who knows, it might look even better!!

    It’s a lovely quilt Michelle. It would have sent you mad to try to get them all in the same direction. Of course you could do it but not with speed piecing! It’s a scrap quilt after all. Good job.

    Exquisite. Love the lime and yellow tossed in. By not watching the direction of the prints, maybe you have a more random amount in another direction to look intentional? If you had to consciously decide to balance both directions: AHHHH, too much for my brain to consider. Also, from the aerial view on your floor, we just see the well balanced colors. Beautiful.

      @bitspiecesquilting  8 місяців тому

    Hi Michelle! I love this pattern. In one of your trunk shows, you showed this quilt done with scraps and it inspired me, so one of my ongoing projects is curtains for my sewing room, made from this pattern. And I love the way you explained your process for creating these blocks. Great video!

    • @bitspiecesquilting
      @bitspiecesquilting  9 місяців тому

      Thanks Beth! Good to hear from you. I hope the curtains are going well. Do you think you will back them with a fabric or just leave them as a pieced panel? Thanks for watching and hope you are well.

    • @bethkoch11
      @bethkoch11 8 місяців тому

      @@bitspiecesquilting I haven't decided about the backing yet. I live in the Southwest U.S. where we get a lot of sun, and to add to that, my sewing room window faces west, so I wanted something to diffuse the intense light. I have blinds up there now. I do think backing will be helpful, so I was considering just a plain muslin backing. I stilll have some work to do on them, so more time to decide!

    Another great design 🤩 Hopefully, I thought, you should get it finished so you can snuggle up under it at Christmas, but then I’m sure that you are in Australia so you might not want to snuggle 🤷‍♀️🤣🤣 Thanks for sharing this design 👍 I’m sure it’s going to help lots of people reduce their scrap pile a bit 👏👏🇬🇧

    • @bitspiecesquilting
      @bitspiecesquilting  9 місяців тому

      Hi Glynis - it is finished now (I try to record a couple of weeks in advance), but I didn't have time to get some good photos of the final finished quilt. I'll try to get some photos done in a few days and post them on my Instagram (or maybe I'll do a video on everything I finished in 2023 - it will be in there, for sure). We're headed to Perth tomorrow for a mini vacation and it is about 35 degrees Celsius right now..... no quilts needed!!! 😜 But I know someone who loves the Christmas holidays, so this will likely be gifted to her. Hope you are well.

      Hi Debra - I can't really claim that I planned it that way, can I!?!!? Just a happy accident in the end. I did feel rather silly having taken great pains to make sure the relevant pieces were facing the right way! Ah well, if we can't laugh at ourselves, we're in a bit of trouble, I think.

    LOVE this pattern…..I think I’m kind of OCD, so when it comes to directional fabric, I USUALLY purposely put blocks every which way because I want the quilt to not have a “right side

      Hi Marion - I used a 7 x 11 block setting so the final size should be 70 x 82.5. Each finished block is 10.5 x 8 (but then you have to account for seam allowance to sew the blocks together). But you can make it any size you like. Thanks for watching and all the best for a wonderful holiday season! 🎄

    Which way did you iron the seams? 😊

    • @bitspiecesquilting
      @bitspiecesquilting  9 місяців тому +1

      Hi Bobbie - I would have to double check, but I think I pressed half the blocks in one direction and half in the other. Because the blocks in each column are the same (either a hill or a valley), you want to make sure those seams nest (so you need the seams to go in opposite directions). There are no issues across the rows because there is nothing that needs to line up. Hope this makes sense.
