Can I use this to make a DVR by connecting the OUTPUT HDMI from my cable box to the adapter then record the content on my PC? Would any type of movie content be block or prevented from passing through or would everything pass through just like the HDMI line were connected to a TV.

OBS is great, but you can also use VLC to play hdmi capture.
@@davidbosankoe3759 When I tried this with VLC, it did not recognise the Firestick which is why I chose to do this via OSB in this method shown in the video.

@@FireTVSticks i purchased the hdmi and downloaded the obs system for MAC and i can see video but cannot hear audio. i noticed that in audio settings my Desktop drop down only says 'disabled'. i do not hav option to select 'default. i also noticed that once u selected ur the firestick device 'usb device' i did not have option to scroll down and select 'custom' audio. do u know if this should work with MAC users or is there a better program for MACusers? thanks

Absolutely one of the best tutorial videos I've seen on UA-cam. Love the all inclusive step by step instructions and on screen demo. Most tutorial videos I see make so many assumptions about what I've already done, already have, or already know, which makes the entire video useless. For those having trouble seeing Firestick in OBS and Windows, makes sure in OBS you have "USB video" selected, AND "use custom audio device" checked. Also make sure the Windows "camera" option is enabled. If still no luck, makes sure "USB video" is visible in Windows Device Manager. Finally, if still no luck, exit OBS, then restart Firestick, and then restart OBS.
where do i select usb video in obs? I dont see any toggle anywhere or drop down to select usb video

Very well done. Slowly enough, very clear speaking, step-by-step instruction was great. I just got a Firestick and need to get one of the converters (Video Capture Device) and to download an app to run it. Since your instructions are so clear, will try the OBS app.

@@FireTVSticks can I ask… is there a way to Chromecast from within OBS? The reason I ask is… if there is, then instead of buying a Firestick for every tv in the house, a person could buy one and cast to whichever room they might be in ie the family room, home office, bedroom, etc?
@@renehouse2015 No, not that I know of sorry. However, you could just move your Firestick from room to room? Bit of a hassle but it would save you buying a Firestick for every TV?
@@FireTVSticks nice video! I have a question? Do you if there is a way to view content on my laptop via a Bluetooth connection? I am able to connect to laptop & Firestick via Bluetooth. It would nice if content could be viewed on the TV & laptop simultaneously.
Now i know how to use a Firestick etc on a PC
Without this excellent guide i would have been doing a lot of research
to find out how to do it.
The requirement to have to select the video and sound source in the software
could perhaps be made easier with a single source option, but that is for the
software developers to upgrade.

I was thinking of get a Firestick for my Raspberry Pi, as both HMDI ports on my bedroom TV are used with said Pi and my Sky Box. This was very useful thank you.
As a boomer it seems to be rarer and rarer that we hear such a nicely spoken young person. Though with my Lancashire accent I was never one myself.
You're welcome! If you wanted, you could use a HDMI switch with your TV so that you can attach more HDMI devices.

Hiya. What's the point of a firestick plugged into your laptop or pc? I hear you can use it to turn any tv into a smart tv, which sounds good, but what is the benefit of plugging into your computer? My laptop for example, already has Netflix, Prime, Iplayer, etc.

@@FireTVSticks I do have one issue, it is with the remote... the power button doesn't turn the Fire Stick on or off, is there a setting that I don't know about? All the rest of the remote works as it should. Or should I contact Amazon Please advise.

Could you do this quuck tutorial on a mac? When I started the orogram it asked to choose between streaming and revirding and then asjedd which streaming service to use. I chose just recording,but cant access the audio output and my mic is active. Im not sure how to turn that off.

Hi, and thanks for a very informative video. I would ask, however, if the picture quality on the pc screen using the firestick and video capture device is decent, say at least 1080p? Thanks.
There are variables but if for example you have a 1080p monitor and you adjust the settings within OBS to 1080p, the quality will be in 1080p. 4K may struggle depending on your specific monitor/PC/laptop. Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️

Without doing sound settings ... would this be a good way to load programs on firestick? Then remove and place back on your TV? Seems like having a keyboard and mouse would come in handy... especially when you have to troubleshoot an upload and on multiple firesticks! Would prob be able to save 90-95% of the time. Using the remote is a pain when you're trying to figure something out and not "computer savvy" So frustrating! Thank you for all you do. Little by little, I'm learning. ;)

Hello! I am looking to buy Firestick 4k max, but the monitor I want to run it on doesnt have remote control capability. Will the remote control work with this monitor (the power on/off and volume buttons is what I need to work)
As far as I'm aware, the remote will not work with monitors. You would need to look it up on Google.

I am sorry, but I cannot test it as I don't have a Mac. However, you can give Debut Video Capture Software a try.
Can the firestick be navigated through with the mouse or do you still need the remote? I have a firestick that has been unused for a while and my network settings have changed and I cannot get the replacement remote to program to it. The firestick app will not work because the network settings need to be setup
No, you still need the remote with this method.

You can also try plugging your Firestick into your TV and utilizing the HDMI-CEC function on your TV to see if you can get your TVs remote control to work the Firestick.
HDMI-CEC allows devices connected to your TV through HDMI ports to communicate with your TV. This means that with this feature turned on, you may be able to control your Firestick through your TV remote.
Some TV manufacturers may not call this feature HDMI-CEC, it could be called SimpLink, EZ-Sync, EasyLink.
This option can be found in your TV’s menu, options or settings. If you can’t find it, try searching the web for the model of your TV and “enable HDMI-CEC.”
Did you know you can also install Android apps on to your PC or laptop using an Android emulator such as Bluestacks or Nox?

My wife needs the filipino channels and be able to record(DVR) so far I cannot find anything out about this anywhere. Thank You in advance!
I expect you would need an additional piece of software to be able to do this. I have not looked into it sorry.

Will the HDMI to USB adapter also let me stream to the Internet so remotely anywhere on the Internet I could watch whatever the firestick is streaming at that time?
If your Firestick is plugged into your PC in the way demonstrated in this video and you leave it on and running, if you access your PC from somewhere else, you will be able to see whatever is on your PC.
However, you won't be able to do anything with your Firestick as the remote will only work at source.

The early warning that you cannot plug the Firestick /HDMI plug into HP All-in-One PC HDMI (as this HDMI it is OUTPUT only). She recommends an adapter.

Thanks for the detailed video, you were fantastic, anyway guys if you can't hear the obs studio audio, you can directly connect the Fire Stick to a Bluetooth speaker, headphones, this is how I solved it
