Hearing the multi-layered orchestra of Corey's vocals is one thing... Hearing the brutal guitars by themselves is another! ...But WOW!! Being able to solo out and listen in detail to the textures in this song is a REAL treat!
This song is an incredible force of energy, one of the finest examples of pure POWER ...But the power comes from the level of detail the Slipknot team paid attention to as they were producing this masterpiece! Jump in with me!!
3:05 RIght in the feels, the duo you isolated here is gone forever.
Gone but not forgotten.
rip :(
didn’t think about that, just sad now
And it sounded soooo good
Imagine being in the studio when they got that bass tone 🥵
Corey is not alone in the gang vocals. There is Shawn, Chris, and probably Paul as well 😉
There is also a distorted and pitch down shifted note in those as well. Rick Beato and Ken Tamplin both did a breakdown of this song before and that was the consensus of both of them.
I doubt it actually.. they may perform it live but if you listen closely its pitch shifted and layered and doubled up. Maybe they are mixed in their somewhere but its mostly Corey
@@devinmichaelroberts9954 I know you can here either Chris or Shawn (I don't exactly know who's) backing vocals in studio songs like Liberate,No life,Get this,Me Inside, People=Shit,Heritic Anthem and I think a few songs off of .5
@@dude6658 okay??/ and......???
@@devinmichaelroberts9954 We know for sure that Paul's lows dominate the gang vocals, you can listen to Clown's high quite low and Chris is somewhere there
Slipknot’s such a fun band for an engineer to dig into, because they have so many contributing parts accounting for so many layers.
That bass tone explains a lot about Slipknot get their kind of "suffocating" sound. I reckon mixing them would be a nightmare, every instrument takes up so much space in the mix
Exactly
and yet every song of theirs I've heard sounds fantastic
it sits so nicely in this mix but is still present, so pleasing
mixing it honestly isnt a nightmare
Kudos to SlipKnot for being so cool about revealing the "secret sauce" to their final mixes.
I've heard this song so many times since 2008 that no matter what single track you play all I still hear is the entire song.
I like how they left Corey's breaths in the vocals
I never really noticed how close to Iowa scream he sounds in this, just little bit more polished and controlled.
I also need to say that Sid Wilson is really underrated member of the band, you might not always hear it but all the scratches and pitch bends add so much to the music.
And lastly, these multitracks always show what a great chemistry Paul and Joey had. You have drums playing really tight on the beat while the bass is grooving almost sloppily behind the beat. It created this incredible tension, you feel like it is about to fall apart soon and yet it never does. They still keep this relationship consistent no matter how much they speed up or slow down the tempo mid song.
The bass trick they did is actually pretty common, you don't want any drive/distortion to affect the low end because it just ruins the clarity and the THICC, so you gotta separate bass signal into two or even three chains to control low/mid/high separately and maybe use different settings of drive on mids and highs while low chain stays clean and just gets some nice compression. And they did it perfectly)
Those backing sound effects like the screetching noise or the more synth like drums are really cool to hear as I would never notice them in the full mix.
listening to everything separate and mixed i really am in awe , they're my fav band for a reason, every instrument and sound is just right and HITS YOU. their sound is unique and i love it so much
I'd love to see you do this kind of breakdown with their song 'Gently'. That song has a lot of cool instrumental parts to look into and tons of raw screaming from corey, including a high scream towards the end. Super underrated song but so much about it you'd love!
One of my favorites from Iowa. My track ranking of that album seems to be inverted compared to most of the fanbase
@@stanieldaniel5912 same
THIS MODE IS INCREDIBLE
The breakdown riff when Gently picks up, that's what I call my "rage play" riff. If I'm playing and someone (my wife) keeps trying to interfere, I just rage play that and dead-stare her haha
@@veenoir1991 yeah that riff is by far my favorite of any metal song, it literally fits the breakdown of that song exactly
You’ve got 9 guys all with multiple tracks going on….. there’s so much to hear…I want to hear this on my own sooooo bad
hearing these tracks isolated, especially the vocals, gives me 1500x more respect for this song that i already loved
From the self titled Slipknot album to now, Slipknot as a band has become so good to evolve in their sound and adapt as they themselves get older.
Man, just found your channel and now I can't quit. Amazing videos my guy. You also sound great!
This video was absolutely brilliant. I absolutely appreciate how long you spend in the isolated tracks.and then combining them. Thank you so much for this. Just found your channel so I can't wait to watch more.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Every Rock Vocalists Dream This! 🤘🏽🔥
Check solway firth man, that song is a banger, 100000% worth listening to
These multitrack videos are so incredibly fascinating! Thank you for all the work you put in to these videos 🙏
so awesome!
these deep dives are priceless
Awesome analysis + you nailed those vocals! thank you so much ❤️
The raw power of this man thanks for the amazing insight Chris 😁😁
I really love these videos. Being able to dissect songs like this is so interesting! I appreciate the art even more after hearing all of the intricacies and nuances going on that are usually buried in the mix.
This was amazing getting to see how this was layered. Never seen this before. Amazing how much work is put into these songs.
awesome video as always Chris, super interesting to see psychosocial, really shows how much detail is in these studio versions that we can't even hear in isolation ourselves
I absolutely loved this video and your walk through of the isolated tracks! Thank you for putting this together
I’ve been really digging your past two Corey Taylor videos. I’m taking two of your classes and your last two videos gave me some great insight!
Man, your channel is AMAZING. I've seen a handful of videos already and your work is just pure gold. Thank you very much for this! Good God, all this digging through the layering of songs is just fantastic.
This was awesome! Thanks for this breakdown of one of my favorite songs ever!
Yoooo nice vocals at the end! totally nailed it! great song and super analysis as always, I love this multitrack series, to have the opportunity to listen the isolated tracks from Psychosocial was a wonderful experience. Thanks for this, Chris!
Man, this video was everything! Informative, entertaining, interesting... I'm really glad Chris got a hold of the actual studio takes, that's my favourite part of being a musician
Heard this song a million times, never heard most of these sounds, so Much goes into one song! Love it x
Amazing analysis as always Chris!
I love your takes trying to replicate Corey's tracks with your voice and the other tracks, it show us the difference between technique, style and timber, that final bit was incredible!
I love this shit man! I love how you break down other parts of the song too, not just the vocals! Subbed.
Your videos are perfect chris. I personally love your raw insight and excitement, makes your videos spontaneous and fun! I love hearing your insight and enjoying the music with you bro! Pretty much everything you are thinking is very helpful! Rock on Liepe!🤘✊
Love your videos, Chris. I learn so much from you and love watching you enjoy reviewing these songs. I'm really grateful for your content.
🤘🙌 Thank you for doing Metal & Heavier music! Very much appreciated!
great job, i was on their show last week and i think that you can see on stage how much there is going on in their music
Dammit, missed you man! Back at it I feel like I need to tune up some fundamentals so of course I came back here. Loved this, your breakdowns are so spot on! WIthout being a "reaction channel" you're a "breakdown channel" that's what I love. You appreciate the nuance. Something that is missing from a lot of channels.
Very cool!
I love hearing the deeper somewhat hidden layers to songs.
That is very interesting how the music makes it sounds like Corey is just destroying his voice with brutality but in isolation, there is a surprising amount of clarity and tone.
Good stuff, Chris!!
I....didn't know how badly I needed this video. Absolutely killer breakdown, and it tore the curtain down on sounds and subtle tricks in the mixing that get lost when all the layers are working together. As an aspiring singer and musician this insightful depth of studio mixing and vocal speculation is...beyond helpful, beyond cool, just truly a blessing. I love this. I really do.
This song is LEGENDARY, I love the instrumentals
This is mainly how I try to shout/yell, your tips about sighing really clicked. Been watching your videos a few years now and you have really helped my car singing so thank you sir!
This is incredible!! Thanks as always for your guidance
Awesome video!!! Loved to go through all those details in the song. On the background/layered screams, Corey is not the only one screaming in those parts (hence the different textures and sounds)
Great video as always, loved your vocals at the end
One of your best videos.
Great video man, very informative. Keep up the amazing work.
3 min into the video I have to say: it's always been my dream to see one of my favourite songs picked apart. I'm fascinated. Thank you so much
That was incredible. One of the best 18 mins of my life
omg that bass tone! it's clean and gritty and it cuts through and sits at the same time. similar to the tone on heretic anthem. just awesome!
That kit sounds immaculate. I'm addicted to the drum track
Love the layered harmonies.
That was awesome. Cory taylor is dope. Whether its slipknot or stone sour or cmft, hes a killer vocalist. Nice work as always Chris, you are the Beato of vox😎
Hey Chris, thanks for great sound in your video
LOVE this video. At 11:40 where you mention pitch shifting, the vocal stem is not just Corey singing. Clown, and Chris Fehn are also singing. It's hard for me to tell if there is any pitch shifting going on.
Very cool video! Nice instrument tracks and love your vocal analysis, pointing out key tones and placements.
I have listened to Slipknot "Psychosocial" , and i must admit , it was amazing experience during both listening and singing. That's why Slipknot group , is my favourite band.
Rad. Thanks for this Chris
This is incredible the bass and drums epic
So cool to hear all the percussion in isolation! Corey's vocals too are insane. On another note, Chris, I'd love to see you react to Zillakami's voice. He started out as a rapper (as part of the duo City Morgue), but has one of the best rock/metal voices I've seen in years, and has been moving more into that direction recently. I think there'd be a lot of interesting things to explore. Songs of his you could check out : 'Bleach', 'The Electric Experience", 'Draino', 'Arson', '33rd Blakk Glass,' 'Caligula'
Saw Slipknot live yesterday, it was super cool gig and Corey Taylor is a fantastic singer.
That opening guitar before the verse eff'in bangs in that isolated track, i somehow dialed in the corey scream a year ago
Love this❤
damn your vocals in the end were awesome
This is amazing.
Love this bass! 💪🏼
The guitar during the chorus is so clean 🧼
Darn, I wasn't expecting that bass to have such a nice tone.
my fav video... plz more heavy or alternative stuff... well well done and it's sooo interesting to hear and learn... how the single instruments sounds... drum's for example... many thx
Wish you could do this for a tool song with the isolated parts! Great video man
16:35 love the variation of the voice in the chorus
Nice video Chris!
I love slipknot and have listened to this song countless times, and this is the first time I have ever heard thetas on this song.
Singing the song at the end is a great addition and should be on every video
Ok I follow this channel 100% after this vid
Amazing. I can you see you had so much fun with this one.
It was! I hope you liked it!
corey unique voice are so cool .. thanks sir ..
I love that u do these shows. I'm a Corey Taylor nut. I sing all his music.
please do undisclosed desires by muse its so layered and its an awasome song
Wow the voice had been so well cared by the producer he put some amazing affects
This video is incredible. I could watch these all day. U should dive into some avenged sevenfold, tool and red hot chili pepper tracks
rip paul n joey awesome u did this
Amazing video with fascinating explanations as always! I learn so much from your channel. Will you make another video with Sébastien Croteau? That was really captivating!
Fantastic insights! I would love to hear you do some Northlane analysis... Their vocalist, Marcus Bridge, does some amazing vocal acrobatics from high tenor to extreme guttural scream, and he can do it consistently live. Pretty incredible control there!
the vocals you demonstrated are a 10/10
10:25
full cover coming soon??
Chris, you will be blown away by Gennady Tkachenko and Ekaterina Shelehova's "earth sound" vocals. Would love to see you dig deeper so I have a sense of whatever the hell they are doing, it's so moving.
I don’t know how else to describe it, but I love how Stompy this beat is. This whole album is absolutely amazing
Super cool vid. Thank you!
Glad you liked it!
excellent video
Do more slipknot
I love stuff like this :)
Hearing isolated Slipknot individual tracks is so cool!
Great video
Id love to see more slipknot breakdowns from the first 2 albums. They are truly chaotic
Awesome
I've said it before, but once again you do a much better job than Beato. I think you deserve recognition for making this engaging.
Happy to hear you're enjoying them so much! Lots more to come!!
10:54 he sounds like the rev when he screamed joking around
Could you do a Queen of the Damned breakdown? (Just recently saw an interview with all the vocalists and i now know even more why i love the music of that movie so much...)
