Well the thing about Slipknot... Is the GREAT songs... Are a bit much for the show. Not a fan of THE singles. They are fine, catchy, but I'm one of the ST, Iowa, and .5 maggots. I love Stone Sour, I love a lot of the more melodic and soft moments of Slipknot. It's just those two middle albums that have a lot of elements that drive me away. But they've been on a ROLL lately, which tickles me pink.
Never much of a Slipknot fan, but man when dissected it was very interesting. Great playing but mostly loved the layering and careful development. Can learn a lot Great as always!
Definitely one of the UA-cam channels out there. Rick's knowledge to tear down songs piece by peice like a surgical scalpel is truly commendable. I'm sure the band themselves learn a lot about their own songs when they watch his channel. Great content, absolutely brilliant.
yeah, people need to give each member of the band more credit. Especially what Sid adds to the sound is underrated. Not even adding some cool stuff to the riff here in Duality, he adds some to the drums in Psychosocial I never realized until I saw him infront of me doing it live.
Ive often thought that there are people who listen to music and just stick to what they like the most. And then there are people who appreciates music as a whole and will listen to anything they like the sound of.
Truth! Especially as you age, your tastes should expand....I have a burning desire to simply hear great sounds put together with feeling and purpose - that simple! No labels or popular attitudes should sway anyone from liking what they like....except Polka...I just don't get it. Great post!
Dude what the hell. Rick. You literally cover my favorite songs from bands. Symphony of Destruction is a gimme, but Duality? And those are just two of many! Holy hell, I love hearing all these breakdowns for my favorite music! Thanks Rick!
Well yeah, he talks about the most popular songs, and those are usually most people's favourites. It doesn't mean that most popular=best, though, because that's subjective, there are other reasons why they're popular
@@effiemars_ i did not say popular= best, i said it tends to. and while i agree that popular songs are not popular because they are good, i would say the big hits of good bands are often regarded as the best by most people. if only because they are the songs that get played a lot.

I can't listen to songs without your voice in mind guiding me through it anymore. Studio guys who put all of it together are great artists just as much as the musicians.
Too many bands with a dj overuse the turntables to the point of being obnoxious. The passing observer might wonder what Sid was adding because he was for the most part,so subtle. Yet if you take his parts away you'd gut the slipknot sound.
You broke this song down perfectly. It's complete madness and lots of crazy fun, which is why people love it so much. Seeing Slipknot live and experiencing this song with an audience in which I had so much fun jumping like crazy that I forgot my joint pain helped me understand why I love this song a lot. Then having your video get made so I can constantly enjoy the fun of this song just made today awesome! Thank you for putting into words and examples what I cannot, because I'm not exactly a musician; I just really love music.
Ok. I am listening to this song since it came out. And I never...NEVER!!! heard that there are scratches and sampling in the background. Never. I am still laughing at myself because after all those years I still learn about music. Thank you.
Anyone who says they knew about and could hear those scratching samples are lying for sure, it's literally barely even noticeable. Although it does add to the final mix
@@MASTAHMELO wait are you serious? Again, i ask you, what did you think the guy on the turntables was doing this whole time? So just to explain my experience. When i first bought the album, and listened to every track, they came out with music videos for some of the songs, during that year of release. I dont know about you, but even back then, I sometimes listened to the music i liked, with headphones on. So with headphones, if you know anything about music, there is no way you could not hear and notice the mixing in the background. Furthermore, I've seen this band live, since back in 97' in small venues, as well as large venues, and when watching them live, there is no denying it. Its right there, and you can hear it. So, nobody is lying to you, ok? just because you didnt hear it, and also never put two and two together, after watching a video or even thinking about perhaps, what instruments to all these crazy play? or are they just hype men who run around the stage like at an ICP show? You know, some people think about these things, and its ok that you didnt. Its good that you know now, but accusing people of lying over something this not only well known for years, but alos fucking OBVIOUS, if you ever watched one of their videos, where they are all performing like would a live show, sheesh.. Like really, you think that a person who is on the turntables in a metal band, just pretends to scratch or something for that "hood clout" ??? Ive got so many questions now. 😃🤣🤣🤣🤣
Its so much easier to get behind a video of someone who so clearly just loves music of all kind. He sees music so much deeper than probably 98% of us which is so cool. Ive been a slipknot fan since self titled came out and been to 6 of their shows but I've never myself even seen the actual complexity to their songs broken down like this before. For me the most eye opening was how involved with everything Sid is.
I've read similar comments already, but again, I love to see Rick just treating all genres with the same level of respect, regardless of his own personal tastes.

I like to sing "Inside Michelle I wait and bleed" in "Wait and Bleed". 😂
Olive Garden's in Spain
We need more Slipknot in "What Makes This Song Great?". You're killin' it brother.
CharlieTiVi I would love to see him do “Killpop”.
He would run out of great songs too quicly
Never much of a Slipknot fan, but man when dissected it was very interesting. Great playing but mostly loved the layering and careful development. Can learn a lot
Great as always!
I can never again hear that song without thinking of Psychosocial Baby
And what’s wrong with being reminded of a masterpiece
Talking about heavy music, it would be nice seeing an episode on Gojira
yes
omg YES, FUCK YES
Yes!
GOJIRA holy balls yes!
Yes pls, id give a thousand likes to this comment
5:30 I’ve been listening to this song for 15 years and never knew Sid had a part there. So badass.
I’m not a musician, but love music! I’m addicted to this channel! So much detail and stories! Love it!
14:44 When the air drums kicks in you know it's good music!
Music lovers should be able to appreciate all forms. It's all art. It's bad ass.
Spot on..wonderful art is music!
Great post!
15:41 I love the transformation at the end of the video. Rick goes from talking about Slipknot to being in Slipknot. Rick you’re cool as hell!
Dude what the hell.
Rick.
You literally cover my favorite songs from bands.
Symphony of Destruction is a gimme, but Duality?
And those are just two of many!
Holy hell, I love hearing all these breakdowns for my favorite music!
Thanks Rick!
Yeah, generally he does the most popular songs by bands. Most popular tends to equal best.
Well yeah, he talks about the most popular songs, and those are usually most people's favourites. It doesn't mean that most popular=best, though, because that's subjective, there are other reasons why they're popular
@@Rassalcon I would definitely argue that there are more popular Slipknot songs than Duality - most certainly, though it still is a very popular one!
@@effiemars_ i did not say popular= best, i said it tends to. and while i agree that popular songs are not popular because they are good, i would say the big hits of good bands are often regarded as the best by most people. if only because they are the songs that get played a lot.
@@blackie126 Maybe saying that rick chooses early big hits would be better
Wish I could "like" this video twice. The way you break down songs really makes me appreciate the music that much more.
Never thought Rick Beato was into Slipknot👀👌
A good song is a good song whether you're into a certain band or not. There's lots of songs I love and respect from various groups/artists but I'm not into the rest of the artist's material at all. The beauty of music.... :)
Never know what you'll hear in this series, that's what makes it great.
@@josephmarshall6599 He _did_ also pull out a signature snare from the bands previous drummer
Your point still stands but..... It is pretty reasonable after seeing this to think this dude digs the band, at least a bit
@@slipknot95maggot this "dude" digs pretty much all of the music I've went through my entire life ^^ (although there are some holes, which might be due to him being a producer... a species with a natural tendency towards music involving production skills)
my taste convergence towards jazz led me to this channel years ago. But man, do I love the flashbacks this series is giving me every once in a while.
@@slipknot95maggot Right. By no means was I attempting to speak on anyone's behalf just my own thoughts in general. :)
God, I could listen to the rhythm section part at 9:48 for HOURS.
There is a video of Paul Gray and Roy Mayorga playing Duality just on drums and bass.
@@stephenstone9325 You're kidding. Link me brotha.
@@ronaldinho4eva1 if you search Paul Gray behind the player you should find it
Yeah, I made that my ring tone.
It is really good. Never noticed how tasty it is
As a guitarist of 15 years, and an avid metal fan. I absolutely love the way you break down music in general, explain why and how these things sync together. You're very experienced in what you do, it shows in how fluid you're explanations. Please, keep doing what you're doing!
Irresponsible rumor - Rick secretly is a member of Slipknot..? 🤷♂️
The new member!????
He's behind the mask of the new member
Rev Red Beard He’s Tortilla Man confirmed
No. How could he be in both Metallica AND Slipknot?
The Otter Lord Crap!!!! You’re right!!!
Nice! Great video! This is one of my favourite Slipknot tunes :)
Woah, Jens, I didn't know you were into metal at all! It's great how jazz guys are coming from that place
Love the appreciation of timing and laying back in riffs, that is so rare for metal that they use that and it works so well
@@juanmaidana8185 I like most genres of music, but not everything within any genre :) I don't think you can say that I come from metal though, my students brought in Slipknot and a friend of mine gave me death metal cd's for my birthday when I was already a jazz guitarist.
@@JensLarsen do you like avenged sevenfold at all? their lead guitarist is super into jazz and they play super melodic and REALLY well arranged metal
@@joelcoool Yes I know A7X. Not really my thing for some reason :)
Keeping the panning of the track into the relevant speakers is such a great touch, super helpful love the vids
Wow! Goosebumps big time listening to all the elements broken down!
You’re the man Rick!
Rick I love your air drums. Never change! haha!
Rick is undeniably the GOAT of this genre of podcast.
THE ALAN PARSONS PROJECT please Rick. Literally any track. Genius songwriting, expert musicianship and stunning production
Leon tales of mystery and imagination
Slipknot is such a great band for this series, I’d love to hear more of these on them
14:04 That sudden isolation of Paul's bassline is sick
Rick, you make music I don't like more interesting for me :) Thank you!
Ikr?!? I don't even really like Slipknot but the way this wizard man explains it, makes me like this song now!
Everybody learns when they expose themselves to things they don't normally engulf themselves in. Rick is a treasure indeed! Good day guys!
The fact Rick seems to appreciate almost every style of music helps with this too.
Thank you for this!
Didn't know how great these guys are. Groove, tension, awesome chops.
I can't listen to songs without your voice in mind guiding me through it anymore. Studio guys who put all of it together are great artists just as much as the musicians.
I’ve known this song since it came out and never noticed Sid’s turntable part during the main riff. Wild
You really enjoy yourself on this one, love the energy and the episode over all!
One of the best channels on YT... period. I always come away from a Beato vid knowing something I didn't before. Thank you Rick!
R.I.P. Joey
Truly one of the most powerful drummers ever.
Long live the knot
That was brilliant and your passion for this song and Joeys drumming really shone through. RIP JJ
One of the best part of a Slipknot mix is always hearing what #0 and #5 are adding to the harmony/ disharmony.
I'd love to see him break down Gojira.
Jinjer also. Pieces.
Same, he should do "Heaviest matter of the universe"
Oh, yes please 👋👋
Yes, Gojira please!
The Art of Dying
I didn’t even know Sid put his stuff in this song ; wow , blowing my little mind
I never get tired of seeing a music professional savouring bits and pieces of a whole song
Sid wilson was such a nice mix to their sound
Was?
Too many bands with a dj overuse the turntables to the point of being obnoxious. The passing observer might wonder what Sid was adding because he was for the most part,so subtle. Yet if you take his parts away you'd gut the slipknot sound.
I absolutely love at 9:55 the bass and drums together, sounds so good the rhythm is phenomenal
How cool was the final mix!! Rick youre a damn hero we need, but not one we deserve.
Now, can you make The Grudge? Just this one please.
Those vocals are compressed as hell. Very stylistic. I'm loving this. More numetal Rick!
It’s amazing when you hear the technicalities presented by Nick here makes this song a work of art, which otherwise is called “noise”
"Pulls you down to the tonic." is such a good saying, perfectly describes how you feel when you're listening to the song.
I don’t think you know what he’s talking about
Ok. I am listening to this song since it came out. And I never...NEVER!!! heard that there are scratches and sampling in the background. Never. I am still laughing at myself because after all those years I still learn about music.
Thank you.
Same
whaaaaaaat????? thats crazy!!!!! Like what did you think the dude behind the turntables was doing this whole time?? :P
Some might call them... subliminal
Please do a song from Korn in the future! Seeing you play in drop B was wicked. This is probably my favorite video from you so far.
My early vote is in, please do Blind or Got the Life or Falling Away From Me. Yes they were mainstream but when I hear them I'm gonna be reminded of all the cool stuff Rick will teach us!
your wish has been granted...
This is why I love this series.
I always thought this was one of their simpler songs, till you take it all apart one by one.
People don’t give Craig enough credit in the band. He was one of longest serving members and helps record and mix the band. He also uses samples, pads,MIDI,keyboards and synths to add to the music and atmosphere.
