Bob Newhart recently passed away. I took the opportunity to listen to his autobiography - he did the narration. It was wonderful. In the book, he discusses this very interview. It made lasting impression on Bob.

What's not to love about Bob!
    Great clean humor!
The first I heard him was at least 60 years ago at my grandma's house on a record, talking about being a driving instructor.
At 70 plus years old I'm lucky to make it from my chair to the refrigerator and remember what I want to get ;)

Happy belated 94th birthday, Bob. I’m so happy we still have a living legend, sadly, Mr. Newhart lost his wife Ginny.
I’m sad to learn of the passing of the legendary Bob Newhart, he’s with his beloved Ginny and dear friends again. 😢

    R.I.P. Bob Newhart (September 5, 1929 - July 18, 2024)
You're with Eva Gobor, John Candy, and Don Rickles again. Hopefully you guys can do a Rescuers 3 up there when my time comes. Fly high, you guys.

Those guys are clearly good buddies and are having fun with the whole awkwardness schtick. At one point, Carson really milks it, just lets it go completely quiet and then sits there and sips his coffee, but he's shaking so hard with suppressed laughter that he has to turn away so he doesn't spit his coffee all over. I love watching these two guys together.

In the late 1950's {if this is still out there in 200 yrs} Bob had a friend that lived on Wilson Ave. just west of the river in Chicago. He was just starting out but everytime the word got out that he was visiting the neighborhood kids would hope to see him.

It’s interesting that The Rescuers Down Under was Disney’s first animated sequel, it’s hard to imagine a time when Disney didn’t make sequels to any of their animated films before, and I guess The Rescuers was one of the more financially successful films during the period after Walt’s death and Leonard Marlin said that The Rescuers was the start of the new age of Disney animators for Glen Keane and Ron Clements and so on. It’s funny how of all Disney movies, Newhart calls The Rescuers the Rocky of Disney films. Little did we know that soon every Disney film both old and new would have some sort of sequel or remake.

The most ironic thing is Carson was often at his best when he felt he was “dying”.

What an ego-- Carson was so rude, putting down Bob's Disney movie role and parade MC. Bob was a huge comic talent.

Not one of Johnny Carson's best nights. It's like he doesn't know where to begin the conversation, and they're hemming and hawing, trying to get through the show without saying anything interesting.
