  • I've been feeling really inspired by a lot of #princesscore dresses I've been seeing on instagram lately, like those from Teuta Matoshi and Fairy Tong London. And honestly, Joann Fabrics has been stocking some pretty dreamy princess fabrics lately. So when I had a gap in my sewing schedule, it seemed like it was a perfect match. Now I'll have the princess dress of my dreams!

    😆I LOVE how the more you talked, the bigger the dress got, "because a princess dress with only (fill in blank) is sad."
    ALso, the scant amount of fabric. . . yesterday, I had a similar conversation with myself. I bought a gorgeous green floral which was the last 2 yards, and I told myself, we may as well use it to make the daughter who also thought it was pretty something, because the only thing I can do with 2 yards of fabric is put it on my head and wear it as a veil.

    I love the fabric combinations and I LOVE the solution of placing the fabric on the crossgrain for the bodice! i think the row of starbursts look really elegant and well thought-out, even if your hand was forced. the little burst with the star hidden in the middle of the seam looks AWESOME!
    i can't wait to see the final dress. thank you for sharing

    Life would've been perfect if you found that gorgeous sequinned fabric in oodles more yardage than you needed and at a super bargain price (one can always dream....)! From what you've done so far on the bodice, the rest of the dress is guaranteed to look drop-dead gorgeous! BTW - did I see a wisp of Lion's tail wagging in the background, and did I hear Dora's quiet mewing, and the bell jingling on her neck collar? They were both very well-behaved.... Looking forward to more videos on this super dress project!

      Yeah, I definitely have a love/hate relationship with Joann's. They're great for stuff like this, but they generally suck for historical costumes.

      Yes, personally speaking, huge Brit-based envy for the seemingly numerous and giant American craft shops!! 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

    So I have a dress very similar to this about 75% done that I was working on for a company holiday party in December. I was in a hurry and skipped the pockets - so very much looking forward to your tutorial on that.
    * Warning Unsolicited Advice Incoming (You may know this already as I know you're a very experienced sewist. No worries if you want to skip this part!) *
    Having watched a lot of your videos, I think you might actually be cutting the wrong size in the top for your patterns! If you choose the pattern that fits your upper bust measurements and then do a full bust adjustment, I think you'll have less fidgeting with the armscyes and gaping. That said, I often skip this step unless I'm modifying a pattern that I use often...

    • @LadyRebeccaFashions
      @LadyRebeccaFashions  Рік тому +1

      I've tried full bust adjustments a couple times, and they've never worked for me. I'm probably doing something wrong, but since it's happened more than once or twice, I figure I'll stick with what works.

      @@LadyRebeccaFashions I just thought of this. As a beginner sewer I’ve seen videos saying you have to wash fabric before use but obviously not a fabric tulle like that. If you haddd to wash the dress wouldn’t hand wash setting ruin it? I guess it would have to be washed in a storage container if that ever happened. You know like for example wearing a garment to an event and you get all sweaty on the under layer. That’s what worries me about making Victorian dresses with added elements that make it not very handwashable. I would have to have the elements be removable. Or pad up the underarms. I’m not quite sure what i’d do then.

      @@VictorianaBrooke honestly, stuff like this I tend to spot clean only. I always wear a camisole too, which helps to protect the insides.

    A very cute project! Maybe it is a good thring the other fabrics were delayed (though I can't wait to find out about those projects).
    But I am so confused. How can you get a fabric at a fabric store on a SUNDAY?

    • @LadyRebeccaFashions
      @LadyRebeccaFashions  Рік тому

      Thanks! Are your stores closed on Sundays? Stores here just tend to close a few hours early on Sundays.

      only hobby lobby tends to be closed on sundays in my area as far as hobby stores joannes is my favorite anyway, better fabric better prices and the coupons mmmm yes

      @@LadyRebeccaFashions Yes, in Germany and Austria pretty much everything is closed on Sundays, except for gas stations and some shops at airports and big train stations. Restaurants, amusement parks, museums, theaters and the likes are allowed to open as well, but are closed on Mondays instead. Also, everything closes earlier on Saturday.
      It is a very old and very protected law to make sure workers get rest and can spend time with their families. If a "regular" shop wants to open one Sunday for a special sale or so (mostly during Christmas season) there is lots of paperwork involved, lots of special rules, and a JUDGE has to allow it.
      Some big corporations (usually international ones) have tried to abolish that law from time to time, but are always shut down by not only judges and politicians, but the general public as well. We may be a capitalist country, but we have social market economy to be precise, and we are quite proud of that. One simply does not mess with our free Sundays.
