  • The Strawberry Dress has taken the internet by storm this year, and I, too, have fallen in love with it. I wanted my own version of the strawberry dress to be a bit more retro style, so this is the vlog of my personal diy version.

    I absolutely love how you share you’re process, warts and all. Sewing is so much trail and error and I really appreciate you embracing that. I don’t want to see perfect projects in shot. I want to see the second guessing, starting over, and the dreaded seam ripping. This video was so satisfying and encouraging to watch. Beautiful dress! You are just so enjoyable to watch. 🍓 👗

    Not only are you likely the only one on your block with a strawberry dress but one with pockets!! Beautiful work!! Such a fun and lovely gown!

    WOW that dress is stunning! Also you are making a very convincing argument for frequent & precise fittings... Grumble grumble I don't want to grumble grumble 😅

      Thank you! And honestly, fit is the most important thing in garment sewing, imo. It's annoying and time consuming, but getting the fit right makes all the difference!

    I really like that you gave us a option to make it using a pattern. I have seen a lot of people create it through draping but I'm not at that stage yet aha! Loved how it turned out

      Thanks! Personally, I am not usually a draper. Much easier to frankenpattern!

    Well done to think of the placement for the bust point - its something those of us with larger figures need to think about - but often dont. I was very impressed! After 20 years and more of costuming, I have found very few people, esp those who are larger put as much thought into placement as I would. Im one of your newer subscribers, but you deserve to do well, you have good advice and experience. The way you go about your videos shows your dressmaking experience.

    My growing up cat was patched like Dora! Her name was April. Mom found her, a tiny-barely-open-eyes baby, in a dumpster on April fools day, and she came to live with us. April traveled the whole country with our family and ruled the neighborhood when we were home.

    I have a question: not for the sake of judgement but for the sake of learning so please don't take this the wrong way. What is the difference between buying the dress from China vs buying the fabric from China? How do you ensure that your products are ethically sourced?
    Beautiful dress and fabric, it just came to my mind while I was watching! Again not for judgement I am just genuinely curious

    • @LadyRebeccaFashions
      @LadyRebeccaFashions  3 роки тому +2

      Thanks! Don't worry, I don't take it as judgement. The main thing is that unfortunately, I think a lot/most fabric comes from China, so there's not much of a way to get away from that, whether you're purchasing fabric or clothing. I can't speak to the conditions/wages of fabric manufacturers, but I know that people who make clothing overseas make almost no money at all for their hard work. So buying something like this that is made in China takes that work away from the better paid stitchers who work for Lirika Mitoshi, and instead encourage retailers like AliExpress to keep paying their workers almost nothing so that $400 dresses can be sold for $29.

      @@lesleyharris525 the problem is that she loves ripping up tulle. I left some of the leftover plain tulle on the floor for a day after I finished the dress, and she already ripped it in multiple places (and it's not the first time she's done that!)

    Lovely, lovely, lovely. I like the longer ruffle on the sleeve. Pink really looks vibrant on you. Dora is so much more -- amiable -- than my cats when they help me hold my fabric down. One of my cats LOVES blue fabric, and managed to slow the re-organization of my sewing room by weeks simple by refusing to let me touch the blue fabrics. Stay well!

      Thank you! And yes, Dora is generally very amiable and sweet. Normally when I move her off of things in the sewing room (my chair is her favorite), she tends to just leave the room.

    First let me say that I think you did a great job with this dress and especially making design decisions which were best fit you. I have seen more than one version of the dress. The part I missed most in your version was the visual depth which came from using multiple layers of tulle and gathering them before attaching them to the lining. I think this would have helped with the disconnect between your version and the ruffles. Excellent call on lengthening the sleeve ruffle to match the scale of your sleeve. I think I would have liked the skirt ruffle just to tie in the rifle on the bottom of the sleeve. Loved the pairing with the red ballet flats.

  • @bunhelsingslegacy3549
    @bunhelsingslegacy3549 3 роки тому

    Very pretty! I also have a four-footed helper, thankfully he has no teeth so he can't actually run away with patterns and things, but he doesn't need to be anywhere near me to get bunny fluff all over everything, I swear he teleports it ot weird places like my computer's air intake, and the kitchen range hood (he doesn't go within ten feet of it, won't go on kitchen linoleum at all).
    And I'm right there with you about having to move the shoulders in repeatedly, I've been working on the same pattern for several iterations and I always end up leaving too much on... Next dress, it's going!

    Oh wow, you already finshed the dress! 😲👏 And I haven't even started my version of it. 🙈 But your video can now be used at reference for me. 👍 Putting in pockets and a side zipper in a tulle with sequins? You are so brave!!! 💖
