As an 18 handicap I can say that you have VERY good swing mechanics (better than mine if I'm being honest), and you aren't far off at all! Without those two disaster holes you were looking great brother. Golf can be so frustrating but also so fun an rewarding. Thanks for the content.
Same here, im a 17.5 Some days im flirting with being in the low 80's, high 70's, other days it feels like every other hole is a blowup hole and i might not break 100.
Thank you so much Triple T. I didn't know how much time would go into these kinds of videos when I started. Each one takes over a week for me to edit. Respect for all the course vloggers out there walking around with tripods ✌️
Line your ball up to where you want to putt, consider any breaks etc. Especially on those very short putts, take that extra 10 seconds and line the ball up to the hole with the line or arrow on your ball. This has greatly improved my putting and I always putt with the pin out. My weakest part of my game is my chipping, I always thin it.
it's so annoying when people use the line especially high handicappers.. they line it up, step up to the ball nope that's not right.. adjust it a quarter of a simple.. nope that's not right.. another adjustment, then another then another... just read the putt, pick a mark on the green just in front on that line and putt over it.
I started playing golf 3yrs ago at the age of 37,I was hopeless but loved the game and now I'm playing some good golf shooting in the low 80's over 18 holes consistently. The one tip I would give you is take the pin out,it makes the target bigger and you will sink alot more putts.
I started a few years ago myself and was hooked after one time at the range. Got married and had a baby so I didn't really get to play much the past couple years. Almost like I'm restarting this year. I've broken 100. But never really better than that. This years goal will be 90. And taking the pin is the majority of comments I'm getting. So I will start doing that more lol. Thanks for checking out my video Warren! ✌️
@@MGGolf you're welcome mate, but obviously only take the pin out for those putts just inside 15ft.Anything further then that leave the pin in,that's what I do and it helped my putting massively.
I’m a 30 handicap as well! Thanks for posting, was interesting to see what others probably see about my game. Looking forward to getting down to the mid 20s soon.
@@MGGolf I made it down to 25.7. Helps that I shot a 93 at a 134 slope course recently. Over the past couple months was a lot of work on tempo, realizing I don’t need as deep a backswing / power, divot depth, aim, changing to a straighter putting stroke, ensuring sweet spot contact on all parts of the bag, and practice chipping off feel within 30 yards. Oh yeah a lot of course management (i.e. taking my medicine by punching out and splitting up long 2nd shots to a comfortable 3rd shot.
That's awesome man. I really need to step up my game. I'd be stoked on a 93. I keep thinking I'm getting better, but when one thing is on another is off. Good putting, bad irons. Good tee shots, bad chips. I have a swing lesson tomorrow to try and sort some things out. Wish me luck
As a fellow high-handicapper I hand it to you for making the videos. I occasionally get shots that seem brilliant, but other times nothing seems to go right. What's the old saying - even a blind squirrel can sink a 30-foot putt once in a while.
Regarding your rules question, there is the actual rules and what most recreational golfers will do. The rules states that if you can't find it, take a penalty stroke and go back and tee it up for your third. The way most people will play it is how you did - play your third from where you think it is around. Keep swinging. It's a great game.
Thanks Charles. That's how I normally play it. I want to start being more true to the rules and the game as intended to play. I guess it all would come down to how busy the course is and keeping with pace of play
You got a sub outta me after the quad. Keep playing homie. The 1st time I broke 90 I shot 85 and I felt like I was in a different world haha. Once you consistently start breaking 90 which I don’t think your far off, golf became a lot more enjoyable to me. I felt like I could play a course and really appreciate it vs before I felt like every course was the hardest course ever. Golf becomes very rewarding as you get better. Clean up those short putts.
thanks so much for the sub murph! Ive gotten a little better since filming this video. feel free to check out one of my newer videos and lemme know what ya think. ✌️
I'm in and around the same level as you I think. Some weeks it's a struggle and some weeks I really enjoy. All part of the journey! Keep on keeping on 🤙
That’s not a bad score at all considering your handicap. I played 18 today, and shot 50/53-103. Now this year has been the first time ever since I’ve been playing golf that I’m playing every week. The previous years I would play once maybe twice a year, but now I’m fully invested in trying to play well. So far this year, I’m staying in the low 100’s (with a 95 score) and I know I can break 100 easily if I stop pulling my tee shots every so often. It’s good to see videos like this that shows that us amateur golfers are all in the same boat. Keep up the good content and keep playing.
Thanks for the encouragement Dom. You're definitely right about breaking 100. Most of it is just keeping the ball in play and avoiding hazards. Keep it going and thanks for checking out my video. ✌️
Best piece of putting advice I’ve learned is uphill putts don’t break as much, downhill putts break way more than you think. Great job out there, I thought you played pretty well!
Thanks so much Daniel. My putting has improved a lot since this round but that's a great reminder to think of during uphill and downhill putts. Thanks again! ✌️
First time watching one of your videos. A couple of observations from an amateur who is on a similar journey and been exactly where you are not that long ago. I feel you could have easily shaved off 6-7 strokes by introducing calmness and smoother swing mechanics. And take a peek at your videos again and look at the chicken wing issue. It's super clear in most of your swings. That left elbow is getting away on you. Tuck it in! Clubs appear a bit too short but this could be due to camera angle, but your posture seems exaggerated. You could also stand to relax a bit (a lot) and purge that tension that is glaring yet totally understandable with high handicap players. Get rid of most of your tension during your setup/practice swing, BEFORE entering tee box. Once in tee box address the ball and commit, then think easy smooooth accelerated swing. Do whatever you can to help calm your mind..breathing, thinking positive thoughts ect. Shoot for 200 yards with driver, nothing further for awhile. I know you can send it 250+ but don't..for awhile. Focus on straight line and easier smooth zero pressure swings. Then gradually increase swing speed. Also, focus on BALANCE and ending your swing with bottom right sole up and facing backwards, and your belt buckle facing your target. Hips chest everything facing the target after your swing. If I'm standing in front of you facing you when you're at address, I should be able to see your left shoulder blade after your swing. Stretch that out! Practice smooth easy chipping, no tension...nothing but zen in your mind. Hit the practice chipping green with ONE wedge...56 seems to be your goto. Marry that club, sleep with it, get to know it intimately and you'll see amazing results around the green. You'll be a sniper with it in no time. Your putting appears stabby. Again, smooooth putting, soft grip and rock those shoulders smoooothly and follow through with your putter. Practice finishing your putting stroke by holding our putter in the air where it naturally stops. This will help promote smooooth putting. And don't look up as you putt. keep your head down only looking a foot in front of the ball. Try addressing the ball so that it's slightly back of centre when putting. This helped me tremendously. Anyway, that's my .02 *Subscribed to follow your journey*.
Thank you so much for the support and the tips. This is some of the best advice, and well spoken that I have received. Everything you mentioned is on my checklist to work on. You also reminded me about the mental aspect of the game tho. The relax and Zen part of the game. Need to remember all of this for my next round. Again, I really appreciate your support ✌️
You played well! I like that you have a preshot routine and take your time. Good swing too. I broke 100 in Year 1 and now getting down towards 90. I never use a driver, 3-Wood off every tee is more control and leaves you happy and in the fairway more. Dont chip from the fringe! Putter all day 😊 Id say if you spend 2x the time on chip and putt vs the range...youll be breaking 90 by next season
I like that after you made the quad bogey you put shake it off on the screen and when I play I seem to hold on to the bad shots then start overthinking and it messes up my hole game you did well to recover for the next hole
Awesome video! I also set myself up on this golfing journey a few years ago and since have improved. A couple of pointers along the way to lower your score, without getting too detailed, are chips and putts. Focus on pace and contact for putts and mini 20-50yard chips with different ball placements to find trajectory for those pesky situations. Overall, I play with high handicappers and you sir, swing like you are about to be a mid handicapper soon .
Hey thanks so much Bob! I appreciate the kind words. Ive definitely realized the importance of short game after this round. Putting especially. I've changed my putting grip as it wasn't working well this year, and spent more time on the practice greens. Been focusing on gate drills for better contact like you mentioned. Also trying to get bump and run shots back into my inventory. All a work in progress. ✌️
Ayyyyye. Thanks for the sub Nate! I really appreciate the support. Lemme know how your season gets on this year. I love to hear people motivated to grow and get better. And lets pretend that par 3 never happened... 🤣 Thanks again Nate ✌️
Lovely round of golf! Glad your out enjoying it! If you’re still having trouble with short putts try taking a much shorter backswing, a couple of times it looked a bit large for the putt length, that helped me and I hope it helps you too! Much love!
..just found your channel and find it interesting , as I recently retired and began playing again...I am currently struggling to break 100 and bought some lessons this off season and now working on a few things like low point consistency, shaft lean and rotation.... ..............
Hey Gary. Thanks for checking out the channel. And welcome back to the game. I'm uploading a video today that has a few tips I've picked up through the year, that may be helpful if you're struggling with breaking 100. Mostly course management things. But things that helped me to finally break 90. Lessons will definitely get your body back into the "swing" of things. (Sorry for the pun, had to do it). Good course management will get you to your goal very quickly even with a less than perfect swing. Good luck. And hope to see you back in the comments with updates. ✌️
Love the video man! One tip I have is never over compensate. Don’t play for a draw or a slice. The moment you purposely aim right to play the draw you will 9/10 hit it straight where you’re aimed. Golf is weird! Keep up the good work
If Im seeing a pattern I'll typically adjust for it. Sometimes the body isn't moving how it typically does due to muscle tiredness or weakness that you might not even feel. I do reassess throughout the game tho. Your right about over compensating tho. Always make minor adjustments and assess the outcome. ✌️
If u land in the red penalty zone and want to drop a ball u may mark a drop point with a tee or something else, not further than double the length of your longest club from the crossing point and not closer to the pin, so theres a half circle created when u mark the spot. The ball has to land within 1 club length of the mark. If it drops out of the zone by rolling too far away or closer to the pin (in the front half circle of the mark) u have two more chances to drop the ball. If your third drop fails u have to lay down the ball on the landing point of your third drop.
I picked up golf two months ago. I play hopbrook more than any other course. Though I only played it 5 times. My best is a 63... My only advice would be to hold off on the driver for now. A straight 180yrds is better than a sliced or hooked 250
I can slice an iron 180 just as easily as I can slice a driver 250 lol. Been wanting to try an irons only round just to see what kinda score would come out. ✌️
@@MGGolf I would love to see a video of an all irons round. The benefit of a sliced 180 versus a sliced 250 is how much further away from the intended target you are.
This is my goal as well. Breaking 50 on 9 holes. My best round so far was 52 (which was last week) and I would have had it had I not had a disastrous 9th hole lol
@@SpliffSized This is the start of my 2nd year. Go to the range on Fridays, and then Golf with a few friends on Saturdays. I got fitted for clubs, which should help considering the clubs I am using are all wrong (I buy used to save money) but turns out they are way too heavy, wrong length and lie angle. Hitting the clubs I was testing with I was much more consistent and straight, so im looking forward to the fitted clubs coming in a week or two. I have a lot I need to work on, but im hoping to work my way towards "bogey" golf, and breaking 100 on 18 and ill be happy.
Hey, I'm a little better (low 20s) but I learned something here. You are keeping a good attitude it appears and staying out of your head will only improve your game and keep it enjoyable.
Oman Joe. You would not want to be in my head when I'm playing. I'm like rainman with attack angle, path, face angle, dynamic loft. It's a mess in there. But I know that bad shots happen and I can't go back and undo them. So on to the next one! ✌️
No chance you’re a 30 hc! Great game and really good swing. You’ve got a lot of golf knowledge clearly. I will say this, your down swing slows down quite a bit. That might be why your club face is turning. I bet if you you shot those hips forward and let the arms follow you’ll see a more consistent flight. From there you can get a better feeling of what your hands are doing at impact! Definitely subscribing man! Great video
Thank you so much for the support Caden! Hips and swing path are my range works right now. Hopefully there will be a noticable change to my swing coming soon. ✌️
First rule, golf always wins. You got club head speed which is really, really good and you're a short game away from 15 hcp. Stay with it, don't try too hard, it's supposed to be fun!
A lot of potential in your game. I think you could gain most by working on your accuracy, mainly because you're spraying the ball off the tee more than you should. Also, don't automatically use a driver off the tee on par-4 holes unless you absolutely need all of the distance it provides. A straight 6-iron will serve you better than a hooked drive, mainly because the trouble is usually off to the sides of each fairway (including overhanging tree limbs).
I enjoy watching your videos, but a bit off topic, how or where do you get your score board that is in the upper right hand corner of the screen. I would love to be able to use one something like that. Thanks
I actually make one for each individual shot in PowerPoint. Extremely tedious work. Not sure how other people do it. There's gotta be an easier way tho.
One question .. did you get fit for your irons bc your stance looks like you may need to flatten them a degree or two bc it seems that toe is a bit up at address. So if youre playing with clubs too upright you'll have hook misses and youll notice your divots deeper on your side of it (because heel digs and toe stays up with shuts face) ... anyways you rock dude!
I got fit into the 2021 TaylorMade P790. Dynamic gold 105 stiff. Standard everything. Got a really good deal on the 2019 p790 used. Had length, lie, and loft checked and adjusted to standard. Now I just gotta work on better strike. Also, the camera angle has been really messing people up with the iron shots as far as length and stance is concerned. I just have to have the camera at that angle for the shot tracer to work. Thanks so much for the input!
My guy you're definitely a fit person. Good core swing. You're grip is super tight. Those right blocks and left pulls can be fixed. Lighten grip pressure (almost to point where club can fall thru hands). Try it out on range. Great video. Signed a 8.1 hcp
I have been told that my handicap is in the low teens....but it looks to me as though you swing better than I do. I'd say just losen up a little. It looks as though you have a good amount of tension in your arms and the most important thing I learned was to really have a lose feeling in the arms, chest, shoulders, back etc. You obviously need some grip pressure but apart from that, the motion should be smooth and fluid. You have everything you need to knock 20 strokes off your scores. I wish you the best of luck!
Thanks gamer! I've worked on my swing a lot since this video. Tempo, fluidity, compression. Really trying to take my arms out of the equation and utilize my body more. Feel free to check out any of my newer videos and compare the new swing. Really appreciate you checking out my video and leaving the suggestion for me! ✌️
Having played at 4 handicap you have a good swing and play a great game the rest will come with time just keep on trucking along a friend of mine who was a scratch golfer always said drive for show putt for dow your swing is very good try focus on ball connection and body positioning i tip that helped me was keeping my head still as the swing comes up then i always look just ahead of the ball as the swing comes down helped me connect miles better and if your shots go wayward place the club across your chest and see where you body aims for then next time your can re ajust
Hey thanks so much for the comment. I'm working on better strike right now. I know I need work on aim so I'm going to try and get a lesson focusing on that soon. I try to work on it alone with alignment sticks but get nowhere. Hopefully next month for another lesson. ✌️
Regarding the last hole and the ruling(s), it depends and it can get complicated. If the first shot may have been headed towards a penalty area, then you're not allowed to hit what appeared to be a provisional ball. Instead, you would attempt to locate your ball and if you reasonably conclude that it came to rest in the penalty area, then you would drop near the spot where the ball last entered the penalty area under a penalty of one stroke. If the first shot was headed in the direction of a non-penalty area, you may hit a provisional ball off the tee. If you locate your original ball, you must play it and abandon the provisional ball. If you cannot locate your original ball then you would play the provisional ball under a penalty of one stroke. In general, you must be careful about when and where to just drop a ball and play it. Under most circumstances, that ball becomes the ball in play regardless of what happened to your original ball.
Ugh those short putts... Been at the putting green every other day since that round. I been playing for about 3 years and just started breaking 100 at the end of last season. Goal is to break 90 this year 👍
@@MGGolf Nice, I am almost in the same situation, playing for 3 full seasons and last year I did only decrease my HCP by 1.5, now sitting at 32. Also aim to push it this season, looking forward to your journey.
Agree!! You hit the ball well the putting let you down. No chunking the ground and killing the worms😂😂. My index is 21, I can’t believe you’re index is 30.
Thanks Joe. That was a really good round for me actually (putting aside). Video I'm editing right now shows my handicap much better. Hopefully I'll have it ready for this weekend. ✌️
@@MGGolf I just played four rounds in three days in Palm Springs Desert Willow resort. 108, 101, & 100. But to be honest I may take a second tee shot every now and then. But once in the fairway I count all the chunks, blade shots and all putts.😂😂
Same here man. I try to be as truthful in my videos as I can be tho. Off camera, I'm just playing to have a good time. Mulligans, breakfast balls, and foot wedges all allowed.
I want to follow you on your journey. I just started getting into golf this year seriously. I have been fixing my slice and now just need to keep my head down. I shot a 51 today on front 9.
a few suggestions to take several strokes off your game. 1 - chipping and pitching around the green. sometimes it's best to hit a lob or flop with a wedge. sometimes it's best to hit a punch / run with and iron. sometimes it's best to just putt from the fringe around the green. learn how to do ALL 3 and when each one is the most effective. 2 - putting - take some practice strokes with your putter to get the feel in your body for the speed and line. 3 - take practice swings with ALL clubs. your driver swing, iron swing and putter stroke are all different. a few practice swings / strokes can help you see your lines, help your body align and get your swing in line with your target. stroke penalty. as you tire - your swing lags and the ball slices or shanks right. so - as you tire - you need conscious focus on closing / squaring your club head not letting your arms / hands get in front of your club head at impact. relax. i cannot play if i have to pee. my game will disintegrate if i have to pee - because i cannot relax. your potential for bad shots increases if you are not relaxed. it's a game. nobody will amputate your body parts if you don't score par. relax - enjoy. a ball lost OB should be re hit from the initial lie. this adds both a stroke and distance lost as the penalty.
Hey mixter. Thanks for all the suggestions. 1. I used to use bump and run irons alot. Not really sure why but I stopped using it often. Def something I need to bring back into my shot inventory. 2. Not sure why, but I've never done practice swings with putter. Tryed it a little bit this year and will continue. 3. I take practice swings with all other clubs besides putter. Never thought about the tired part of it. But does make total sense. Definitely something to keep in mind. I really appreciate all the input. Thank you so much. ✌️
@@MGGolf My pleasure. It's only a game. have fun. Consider : most people use only 1 type of short green side shot instead of the best shot for the job. you can reduce your putts with closer chips. many will duff a chip instead of simply putting from the fringe. learn to putt from 30 feet and to putt through fringe grass. seriously. i personally swing my putter for both speed and line until i believe i will hit the shot with my stroke. if you only reduce your putts by 9 on 18 holes - you have STILL improved your score from 100 to 91 with nothing more than putting. 90= bogey average. i am a bogey average player. i average about +1 on every hole. some games are mid 80's bad games are 95 for me. i play 2 weekends per month between march and december. most " weekend warriors " play in the low 100's or 106= double bogey.
Have you changed your putting grip yet? There's more than a million ways to putt. The best putter in the world ever had a jacked up putting style. I think you'll have more feel with speed if you change to a traditional grip.
Hey Nicholas. I did change it after this round to a traditional overlap grip. Claw worked really well for me last year to keep my wrists from moving. This year it just feels stiff. Putting has improved since this round after the change. Thanks for the input and checking out the video. I appreciate it. ✌️
Thanks Nino. Just using a cell phone and a tripod man. Shot tracer app is in the app store. Check out one of my newer videos. Should have links to all the hardware and software I use, along with just being a better video as well. Cheers ✌️
You have a much better swing than I do, I used to have an index of either 12 or 13 it’s been a long time, I have a 2 way miss off the tee and am losing upwards of 10 balls per round! Trouble breaking 100…it’s suuuper frustrating.
This is honestly the most frustrating game ever invented. No idea why we play it. Sometimes the swing is good sometimes not. Keeps on pulling us back. Lol
I’m at a 6 hdcp. I say this, your swing is nice, you just need some fine tuning, weight transfer, squaring your hips at impact, and a few times I saw you really needed a better club selection, but overall a few adjustments then committing to those and you’ll be in the teens in no time.
Thank man. Since this video I've actually dropped to roughly 15 handicap. Mostly just due to club choice and course management. But you hit it on the head with weight transfer. That's the main thing I've been working on with my coach this past year. If you have time to watch any of my newer videos, maybe you'll see a better swing. I appreciate you checking out my video and leaving a comment ✌️
Improved scoring is achieved not by making more birdies but instead by making less mistakes. A risky birdie gains only a single stroke, but an 'explosion hole' can cost you 3, 4 or more strokes. So, avoiding one really bad hole has the same affect on your score as making 3-4 birdies.
Hey Kyle. Thanks for all the input in my game. This was the first round in my journey. Ive gotten a little better since this one. And definitely agree with your scoring mentally in playing a safe game rather than chasing birdies. I've dropped my handicap from 30+ to roughly 18 just by playing safer shots over the past year. I've been working with my coach and making some swing changing this winter so I'm thinking this year should be pretty good for me. Hoping to go from an 18 handicap to 10 this year. Depending on how much I play, maybe single digit. Definitely excited for this year. I hope you can follow along the journey and provide more incite into my game. Thanks again ✌️
@@MGGolf No problem. I am trying to teach my best friend (of more than 40 years) how to play better golf. He has only really 'caught the bug' in the last couple of years, but now he really wants to improve. My friend's key challenge is course management. He is simply too aggressive (especially off the tee) and he tends to base his club selection mostly on distance to the green rather than hitting straight and/or avoiding trouble. He also sees lay up shots (especially on par-4 holes) as 'wasting' a shot, but he rarely gets to his target in only one shot anyway. Playing well can become a habit as long as you execute the basics of it consistently. Play safe and down the middle, and develop a strong pitching/chipping game that will put you closer to the pin so that you're left with 1-2 putts at most. Also, chipping and pitching from the middle of the fairly is a lot easier than from off to the sides of greens or from greenside bunkers. Playing conservatively can sometimes be a little monotonous and isn't flashy. However, consistently posting scores in the 80s or even less never ever gets old.
Good luck on the teachings! Course management is the quickest way to get from 100 strokes to under 90. Like you said, not flashy. But the scorecard looks good
Possibly. Trying to get out around the state a little more. I never know how the course management will handle me filming at new places. I've played on an empty public course and the starter tried to tell me I could film myself play. Always a gamble when filming
@@MGGolf 18 would be pretty solid, especially if you're new. I've been playing seriously for maybe around a year now. Still taking lessons and doin the best I can. But yea, good luck.
Just started getting my slice kinda under control. Try an over exaggerated slow back swing. And focus on swing path in to out. Those thoughts have been working for me recently
wow. small world lol. im gonna have a lot of CT courses and content this year. if you havent subscribed yet, i would really appreciate it if you did! thanks for the comments! ✌️
Good job of breaking 50. I noticed that the majority of your drives tend to draw to the left. I also notice that you tend to tee the ball up in the middle of the tee box (or maybe slightly to the left). Try to take advantage of the entire teeing area. You can tee up anywhere between the markers and up to 2 club-lengths behind the markers. You don't need to stand in the tee box, only your ball needs to be between the markers, not you. So, I would recommend teeing up on the very far left side of the tee box and aim down the right side of the fairway. This gives you the largest margin for error on your draw/hook. Yes, you may occasionally double-cross yourself and push one right but statistically you'll have a better chance of putting the ball in play over the long haul. Best of luck. Keep up the good work.
Thanks so much Leemz. I typically play a cut/slice so I tee up on the left and aim down the left. I really don't know what was going on that round with the draw/hook lol. That was my first round of the year and a new driver so I was all messed up. But I totally agree with you about taking advantage of the entire tee box, and don't think enough people do it. ✌️
Hello! Good work! I’m restarting my journey as well and it’s cool to see how my future might look like 😀 What tool are you using to track the ball trajectory and visualize it?
Hey Bartosz. If you search "shot tracer app" in your app store it'll pop up. Im thinking about making a video on it. Lotta people asking about it. If you haven't already, I would love if you could subscribe. Then it'll pop up on your homepage when I do a shot tracer video. ✌️
Hey Chad. It worked really well for me last year. I had a tendency of getting handsy and turning the face at impact if I felt unconfident so I tested the claw, and it kept my hands very locked into place and felt very much like a pendulum. This year its just feeling super stiff and uncomfortable so I'll be experimenting with different gripping techniques when I get some time. Hopefully make a video on it. Thanks for stopping by and watching my video. I really appreciate it. ✌️
I’m no teaching pro but my immediate advice would be to stand up WAY taller at addressing. Will help you rotate and find the middle of the club face a lot more often.
Well made video! You have a very nice swing. Out of curiosity, I noticed that in one of your posts, you mentioned changing your putting grip. What do you currently use?
Was using a claw style grip in this video. It worked really well last year to keep my hands from turning at all during impact and forced me to just rotate from my shoulders. This year it feels way to stiff so I switched to an overlap grip after testing a few styles out on the putting green. The rest of my videos use the new gripping style. Thanks for the comment and for checking out my video Josh. Appreciate it. ✌️
On the last hole if you can't find your ball it is declared a lost ball and depending on the rules of the golf course that you played, you may have to re-tee or take a two-stroke penalty and drop in the fairway, or etc. It all depends on the course rules though because some have their own local rules. Also, what is this course called I want to know the rating or slope.
Two strokes could really suck. Thanks for the info. And the course is hop brook golf course in Naugatuck, Connecticut. It's a 9 hole course. ncrdb.usga.org/courseTeeInfo.aspx?CourseID=10228
@@MGGolf If I understand correctly, you were sure to have your ball in the penalty area. You can take a drop on the line between your start and the point were the ball entered into the penalty area, with only one point of penalty.
Good response. As I don't know your local rules I can't say for certain, but also pay attention to the color of the hazard/penalty stakes. There are different rules (strokes lost/penalized) depending if it's O.B. or just a hazard or lateral hazard (white = typically means O.B., so that's stroke and distance, compared to red and yellow which is still a stroke but you get your distance, assuming the ball flight didn't start over the hazard). If it started in play (at least on my course with red and yellow hazard markers) you can go all the way to where the ball last crossed the hazard (best, HONEST, guess since there aren't typically spotters and cameras around). You can then go as far back as you want and drop on that line, which I have had o do quite a bit in West Texas because I'd rather play 150 yard shot from grass, in the fairway compared to a 75 yard shot out of rocks, caliche and hard pan. Not sure exactly the rule statute in the Rules of Golf, but just look up lost ball rules for O.B. compared to normal/lateral hazards.
It was red stakes. The only thing is that I wasn't sure if it went out there, or I just couldn't find it somewhere in the rough possibly. Sounds like I was better off assuming it went out of the reds
Hey David. If u search "shot tracer app" in your app store, it'll pop up. Picture of a white ball with a red tracer behind it. I just use that on my phone for now. Thanks for checking out the video. ✌️
@@MGGolf I don't think that's your situation. For what I see, you either push the ball to the right or hook it to the left. This is because the club lie angles are too flat for you, which makes your swing arc too flat. You might want to talk to a club fitter or pro and ask their opinion. I believe with your height you probably would be better served with a more upright lie angle. This would allow you to stand taller over the ball giving you a more upright swing plane and reduce your hit dispersion yardage; especially with the irons.
That's never been mentioned at a fitting or a any lessons I've been to. My swing has changed quite a bit since this video came out too. You can check out my newer videos if u have the time. But I can mention lie angle at my next lesson and see what my coach says about it. I appreciate your input. Thanks man ✌️
As an 18 handicap I can say that you have VERY good swing mechanics (better than mine if I'm being honest), and you aren't far off at all! Without those two disaster holes you were looking great brother. Golf can be so frustrating but also so fun an rewarding. Thanks for the content.
Thanks so much man. I appreciate it. Can't wait to get down to an 18. Hopefully by the end of this year. ✌️
Tidy up that swing follow through and you are golden
@NineEyeRon 💪💪💪
Same here, im a 17.5 Some days im flirting with being in the low 80's, high 70's, other days it feels like every other hole is a blowup hole and i might not break 100.
Solid swing, great video and I can appreciate the time and effort it goes into editing and adding the graphics and shot tracer etc, great job 👍
Thank you so much Triple T. I didn't know how much time would go into these kinds of videos when I started. Each one takes over a week for me to edit. Respect for all the course vloggers out there walking around with tripods ✌️
@@MGGolf jve been going around asking people what shot tracer they used 😂
I subscribed after the quad on hole 5. Keep powering on! 💪
Thanks Griffin! Get ready for a lot more of those on this journey ✌️
I'm a negative handicap and never use the lines on the ball since I find it kinda distracting and rather focus on reading the breaks.
I’d suggest taking the pin out and on such a short course maybe using the driver less. Your swing looks better than a 30 handicapper
Thanks Man. Driver is too fun to use less, but I agree on the flag for short putts. ✌️
This is more relatable and entertaining to watch than professional games. Keep up the great work!!
Thanks so much! ✌️
I’m a 30 handicap as well! Thanks for posting, was interesting to see what others probably see about my game. Looking forward to getting down to the mid 20s soon.
Nice dude. I'd love if you could come back and keep me updated on your handicap. Thanks for checking out my video. See you in the next one Jason. ✌️
Just trying to collect them nuts man. As long as it makes for a decent video, I've done my job ✌️
Keep on keeping on 🤙
And once in a while you get that perfect shot and it makes it all worth it. Thanks for checking out the video Colm. Really appreciate it ✌️
That’s not a bad score at all considering your handicap.
If you’re a high handicapper that puts me into a league of my own! Great video.
High handicap is considered 19 and over. We in this together Devon. ✌️
@@gargy2002very very high 😂
Best piece of putting advice I’ve learned is uphill putts don’t break as much, downhill putts break way more than you think. Great job out there, I thought you played pretty well!
Thanks so much Daniel. My putting has improved a lot since this round but that's a great reminder to think of during uphill and downhill putts. Thanks again! ✌️
@@MGGolf no problem MG! First time I kept thinking of those, I holed a few more putts than normal lol
If you have negative thoughts walking up to the tee box. You'll get those results.
💯 truth
Good god man that was too much lol
Getting my money's worth
You played well! I like that you have a preshot routine and take your time. Good swing too.
I broke 100 in Year 1 and now getting down towards 90. I never use a driver, 3-Wood off every tee is more control and leaves you happy and in the fairway more.
Dont chip from the fringe! Putter all day 😊
Id say if you spend 2x the time on chip and putt vs the range...youll be breaking 90 by next season
I like that after you made the quad bogey you put shake it off on the screen and when I play I seem to hold on to the bad shots then start overthinking and it messes up my hole game you did well to recover for the next hole
Thank you so much. New hole, new opportunity. ✌️
Subscribed! I'm probably right around the same golf level as you. I felt that par 3 hole in my bones! Hoping to get better myself. Every day.
Much love!
Thanks for the tip GDS. Appreciate it. ✌️
Your human ! Excellent ! Really enjoyed the round 🏌️♂️.
Lol. Thanks Lenny. Glad you enjoyed the video. Plenty more to come. ✌️
..just found your channel and find it interesting , as I recently retired and began playing again...I am currently struggling to break 100 and bought some lessons this off season and now working on a few things like low point consistency, shaft lean and rotation.... ..............
@@MGGolf love your game man! Keep posting videos and doing your thing
Just learned it :)
Lol. Thank you so much. 🙏🙏🙏
Cool. I'll try to make a vid of it and post my finding soon.
This is my goal as well. Breaking 50 on 9 holes. My best round so far was 52 (which was last week) and I would have had it had I not had a disastrous 9th hole lol
Gotta love a good meltdown hole ♥️
How many years have you been playing?? I got extra lucky last year it was my first year of golf and I shot 8
I have a lot I need to work on, but im hoping to work my way towards "bogey" golf, and breaking 100 on 18 and ill be happy.
my best EVER was 39 but im usually high 40's - 50s as well. Im 16 so I cant shoot the farthest.
Been playing one year started at 120s then 6 months was in 90s and now got 83!
Agree. I have never seen a 30 handicaper driving 240 yds constantly. My guess is to rate him about under 20.
First rule, golf always wins. You got club head speed which is really, really good and you're a short game away from 15 hcp. Stay with it, don't try too hard, it's supposed to be fun!
Thanks so much Ed. Appreciate it. ✌️
Subscribed. I can relate so much to the big numbers bloating a solid score...
Thanks so much for the sub Asa! Lots more crappy scores to come. ✌️
Great video. I've hit my fair share of houses on that 9th hole. It's a tight track. Can't wait to see more.
Thanks man. Idk why I always go driver thinking I can "shape" it around the trees. Never works out. ✌️
You had some nice shots. I really appreciate anyone who follows the rules. Good job.
Thanks Matt. I'm trying to be as realistic with a score as I can. Anyone can play well with enough mulligans. ✌️
8:56 Gotta love them par when they happen. GG.
Few and far between. ✌️
Thanks so much Happy. Will give this a go. ✌️
Nailed that second tea off on the 9th!
Wish I didn't lose it lol ✌️
I just found your channel really like it. It pertains to my level
Nice dude. I'm glad your liking it. ✌️

The golf play was actually pretty good 👍 That was a jacked up cow pasture of a course though.
That has to be the hardest ever putt from 3 ft (hole 2) I've ever seen, talk about confidence!

For how long have you been at 30 hcp? Looks like you can cut alot if you nail those short putts :)

I want to follow you on your journey. I just started getting into golf this year seriously. I have been fixing my slice and now just need to keep my head down. I shot a 51 today on front 9.
Nice dude. I love it. Is that your best score on 9 holes?
@@MGGolf so far yes.
a few suggestions to take several strokes off your game.
It's only a game. have fun.
Consider :
most people use only 1 type of short green side shot instead of the best shot for the job. you can reduce your putts with closer chips.
many will duff a chip instead of simply putting from the fringe. learn to putt from 30 feet and to putt through fringe grass. seriously.
i personally swing my putter for both speed and line until i believe i will hit the shot with my stroke.
if you only reduce your putts by 9 on 18 holes - you have STILL improved your score from 100 to 91 with nothing more than putting. 90= bogey average.
i am a bogey average player. i average about +1 on every hole.
some games are mid 80's bad games are 95 for me.
i play 2 weekends per month between march and december.
most " weekend warriors " play in the low 100's or 106= double bogey.

Oh man, that Par 3 was brutal. We have all been there.
Dude. I wish that par 3 on no one. Friend or foe

But the scorecard looks good
That 8th hole was more like what I do regularly
How about a video from Pequabuck in Terryville?
Possibly. Trying to get out around the state a little more. I never know how the course management will handle me filming at new places. I've played on an empty public course and the starter tried to tell me I could film myself play. Always a gamble when filming
Well done man. That's not bad golf at all. I'm a 20-30 handicapper myself.
Nice dude. I'm trying to get down to 18 by end of year. Wish me luck. ✌️
@@MGGolf 18 would be pretty solid, especially if you're new. I've been playing seriously for maybe around a year now. Still taking lessons and doin the best I can. But yea, good luck.
🙏🙏🙏
Keep it up man!
Thanks Brandon. ✌️
How do you track ball flight for your videos?
www.shottracerapp.com/
Did you work on short putts after this, like you felt you should?
Yessir
Laughed at the "please subscribe" on five putt. Feel the pain.
Lol. Sorry. Had to sneak that in there somehow. Still trying to figure out how to UA-cam.
Loved this, just starting my journey, and this has really inspired me. Good man 🙂🏌️⛳
That's awesome to hear. Thanks so much. Check back later and let us know how your game is getting on. ✌️
I play at this course alot nice to see it on here
Nice. It's my local. Just wish it was 18...✌️
What kind of shot tracer is that? looks good
Thanks man.

What do you use to track your ball path?
Shot tracer pro
I swear this is exactly like watching myself play! But, I still love the challenge!
Constant work in progress homie! Let's keep it going ✌️
Definitely! Actually ordered a new driver to hopefully help my slice. Should be delivered today!
Just started getting my slice kinda under control. Try an over exaggerated slow back swing. And focus on swing path in to out. Those thoughts have been working for me recently
This is CT right ? I think I played here last season.
yessir. my local course in naugatuck
@@MGGolf Knew it looked familiar. I’m from Bristol, keep up the good work.
wow. small world lol. im gonna have a lot of CT courses and content this year. if you havent subscribed yet, i would really appreciate it if you did! thanks for the comments! ✌️
Done.
Knew this placed looked familiar.
The punch out top is a play in my book
I'm in good company then. 😂
Good video buddy!! I like the on course vlog’s, and I’m looking forward to the next ones with more commentary.
Just ordered a mic. Gonna start doing commentary soon. 👍
Not a bad swing! Just keep grinding on those short ones.
Thanks Justin. A forever work in progress.
I enjoyed watching this because this is how I play golf. I get my money's worth.
Lol. I love it
Great mindset and good game !
What’s the app for tracing your shots ?
Keep on going ✨
Thanks Esteban! Just search "shot tracer app" in your app store. It'll look like a white golf ball with a red tracer behind it. Good luck. ✌️
Hello!
Is this in CT?
Yessir. Hop brook golf course in Naugatuck
@@MGGolf nice. I keep seeing it on Golf Now but haven't been yet.
I think you should switch to Mizuno Pro 221 irons, they are very good and forgiving
You got an extra set for me?
@@MGGolf no, tho I have tried them before, seriously they are really good
Curious why the claw grip on putts?
Thanks so much for the advice. Really appreciate it. If you have time, check out some of my newer videos and see if I have relieved that issue. ✌️
This is pretty much my usual round of golf. Shot my best at 43 last week
Nice dude. I'm stuck in the 97-100 range. Id pay to shoot a 43
Well made video!
Golf is certainly an interesting experience. Last time out, I had 36 the front one. 56 the back 9. Lol 😀
Lol. Golf sux... Can't wait to play next weekend. 😆
Wow. I had a 56/41 split, and I thought that was crazy. 😂
enjoyed this!
♥️♥️🙏
What kind of setup are you using to track the ball man?
Shot tracer app for the tracer. And a mixture of gps watch, Google maps, and 18 birdies app for distances and overhead tracing on my newer videos.
i really enjoyed this video keep going the short game is where it all matters and you'll be single digits if not scratch if you can get it right
Thanks so much Sudin. Glad you enjoyed the video. ✌️
Did you change putting grips mid round?
I did... Wasnt sure anyone would notice. That claw grip was not working for me. Had to try something different. Good eye
You hit your driver way better than I do. Glad you got under 50
🙏🙏🙏
Changing to a mallet putter messed up my short game too. Need a lot more practice with it.
I experimented with different styles of gripping the putter recently. Might be worth a try ✌️
Awesome video! What shot tracer app or equipment do you use?
Hey David. If u search "shot tracer app" in your app store, it'll pop up. Picture of a white ball with a red tracer behind it. I just use that on my phone for now. Thanks for checking out the video. ✌️
Keep working on that short game brother and it will come!
Thanks so much man. It all needs some work, but I have been getting out to the putting green more after this round. ✌️
Our games look really similar, I’m surprised you’re a 30 handicap. I guess those disaster holes add up pretty quickly
dude, they really do. even one blow up hole can kill a whole round
Maybe try and line up puts with the lines on the ball! Btw great video
Definitely gonna try this out on my next round. Thanks!✌️
What app are you using to track your golf ball?
Hey Vinny. It's just called "shot tracer app" in the app store. I think I linked their website in my newer videos
How tall are you? I wonder if you need a club fitting as it seems you have to bend over a lot to address the grip.
6ft. Standard length. I don't bend my knees enough I think
Thanks man ✌️
What kind of camera do you use?
I just use my phone. Pixel 6 Pro. PowerDirector for editing. And the shot tracer app from the google play store.
