Started in November. Currently got a 32 handicap which has come down from about 40. Slowly getting better but then sometimes still have ridiculous scores that come up. Definitely gonna try practice my putting more. Finally started practicing my chipping and already feel more confident around the greens
Great tips! This video resonates with me as i am on a similar journey currently. However i had 20 years with a messed up swing (30-40 handicapper), 1000's of dollars with multiple coaches and now i've found a youtube coach that resonates with me and my swing has improved ten fold in 4 months (Shot an 82 last game on a par 70 golf course). I found once i knew what my distances were consistently with each club with my standard tempo swing, the use of a range finder and using the same ball has become even more important then ever.
Couldn't agree more. Before I had a GPS device I had no idea how far from the hole I was. In addition, I had no idea how far I hit it anyway! Now I have GPS and know my distances I can just casually swing away knowing I won't overshoot it. I also always play conservatively and go with the distance to the middle of the green which normally gives me +/- 10 yards to play with.

@@JackFowlerGolf For sure! It seems to be the one thing I didn't lose too much from my long hiatus, so I'm definitely holding on to it for dear life. I 100% wouldn't already be back under 100 if it wasn't for my low putting average. Short game is really saving my butt! As you said in the video, it's most of your shots, so as long as you manage to get close to the green, if you manage to get up and down and putt properly, things can only get so bad to begin with! 7 iron and down is pretty much under control, but my long game is messed up. I lost about a club in distance across the board (a bit more with my driver, used to average 250 carry, now it's 225-230), and I'm getting extremely inconsistent hits with my woods and long irons.

Since watching several YT golfers I’ve often wanted to do something like this. Golf for the common man. Nice job…the single biggest thing you can do to improve your golf game is 2 words. RANGE RAT. You didn’t just improve going on the course. You hit hundreds of buckets of balls and chipped and putted your brains out. You see your improvement…now just imagine how much practice a pro did/does to get to where they are.
Yep got to practise on the range, but the course is different. Sometimes it feels great at the range but doesn’t translate to the real thing straight away!
Great video, consistency is my issue, biggest benefit I got recently was to spend a few hours on a chipping green, really got my confidence up and less duffs. Keep up the good work.
Building that confidence around the green is so important. If you make a mistake on the course you’ll be questioning if you even are swinging correctly
@@JackFowlerGolf it's a lot harder than I thought it would be but that's the attraction. Shot par for 9 holes then 10 over for 9. Wish I started younger but here we are. Keep it up pal

Yep - know some of these but some are definitely good tips. You managed to break 100 even before being serious - that is massive. Still struggling to break 100 here.
Got to look at what cost you the most strokes. With me it was off the tee, I was always off the fair ways and either in a hazard or couldnt find it. Went and tried a couple new drivers out and ping 425 max just fit my swing. The pxg i had I just couldnt keep straight. Went from a 103 to a 93 in 2 rounds.
@@Mihigo26 think he means cup 5 shots off his handicap, so down to 20 which is very manageable. I went from 20 to 12 in 18months! Now on the path to get single digits
Currently im 34 hcp and jumping down fast. What helped me personally is playing controlled. Had the bad habbit of wanting to hit way to hard wich made my shots go all over the place, now with control i at least hit it straight. Next to that focussing on short game and putting and you see the hcp lower basically each time.
Knowing your carry distances is huge. I've been struggling to know mine. I've been taking lessons since Nov 2022. Lessons have been going well, however, I used the launch monitor at my GolfTec facility to get my avg carry after the first month. Over the next few months, we made swing changes, and my avg distances have fluctuated as I implement the changes. So, sometimes my avg carry with my 7i is 140 and other times is is 125 (I'm 60 years old and have lost a lot of muscle mass over the years as I have not worked out for decades). You can see where that can be a challenge...but it is only temporary. As my swing gets more consistent, so will my carry distances. I have no idea what people without access to a proper launch monitor do to know these distances.
John - what I did years ago was to go to one of the muni courses near me. Bought a measuring wheel from Home Depot and picked a course that had a par 5 that was sort of out of the way, yet had close access to get on. It was the 5-6th hole and I would head over there 6-7p and drag my clubs, bag of balls and measuring wheel. Picked a spot that was level and would hit 10 balls out then measure them all, write it down and hit 10 balls back towards golf bag. Measured and wrote those down. Did that for each iron and hybrid with full grip then also 1 and 2 inch choke down on clubs. Took all the measurements and plugged them into XLS and got my averages. Not the number was based on rollout not exact carry. But a few things happened from this. 1st - I now had 3 yardages for just about all my clubs in the bag. 2nd - the improvement in my game took me from 8-9 hcp to 3-4. Going from hitting GIR and having 30 foot putts (I SUCK at putting) to getting inside 20 feet like ALL the time was the 2nd biggest difference maker in my game. The biggest difference maker? You gotta hit balls all the time. Like 4-5 days/week. Even if you suck and have crazy swing, you will improve as you increase your confidence thru consistency in how you hit the ball. #3 is NOT showing up at the course 6 minutes before your tee time. You play twice a month, show up at the course and check in and go to 1st tee and in the 5 minutes you wait for the group in front of you to clear out you putt for 3 minutes. Then on the 7th hole your about to snap all your clubs cuz your 16 over par already then magically you start getting some pars and bogies. End your day shooting 94 and you wonder why you suck.
I cut 15 strokes from my handicap by practicing any shot that might come my way from 50 yds and in. Especially a ton of time putting. So many people invest an insane amount hitting driver and long & mid irons. Golf metrics assume 2 putts per hole to finish on par. That's 36 strokes per round out of 72. You'll maybe use your driver on 14-15 holes at most. Work 75% on short game, folks.
Couldn’t agree more! That’s what I’m currently working on now as it’s my weakness and dropping the most shots on. It’s just very boring… I find good quality 30 mins of putting and chipping works rather than 1-2 hours of drawn out work
Most people spend most of there time with Driver and Irons because they can't even get to the short game area LOL. My biggest issue use to be me just getting off the tee and fating my irons LOL. Now that I've gotten past that, shooting 85 and has become so easy. ;-)
What a great journey Jack. Super interesting to see. If you’re ever in Portugal and want to play some rounds and film, let me know 👌. Also subscribed 🤙🏻
I have the tendency to be quite closed with my alignment. Looking back I meant to aim to the left side of the green and let it fade into the green. But the ball started over the right side of the green and faded to the right of the bunker… also being in a slight downslope made it fade a bit more too
you're a very exceptional beginner player,😀 if without any lessons, your average 7i carry is 185 yards and straight ...what is your 7i and driver club head speed?....my high ( 30 ) handicap numbers are mostly from " wasted " shots in my round...by wasted, I mean hitting too many thin or fat......
First 6 months all the rounds of golf you see at the start of the video… as for practise I only went driving range about 1/2 the time night before my round of golf depending on if I had time. Only 2022 I started practising putting/chipping
Liked and sub'd. Good stuff and good length of time for video. Fwiw, I know a lot of us would be interested in hearing more about what you did to drop that many strokes off your handicap in just a few months. How often did you play? How often did you practice and for how long? Did you focus on the drills you have in this video or are there others? Should be a decent bit of material here for more videos to get your stats up.

I’ve been off the game for 20 years and stepped back into it about 4seasons ago. Where I live it’s cold and snow so the courses close around Nov-April. I built a DIY simulator in my garage for the winter months and hit almost every day. But my question for you is did you take lessons? I have yet to. If so, did that really impact your score, course management and how you approach each hole?
Took lessons, changed my grip, the way I stood etc. For 6 weeks I was shooting higher (90+) scores then another 6 weeks later shooting my best rounds (breaking 80)
I was going to try not to take lessons but what’s the point. If it will drastically improve my game, it makes perfect sense. Thank you, Jack for your help and videos.
I have a question - why wouldn't you tee up that 3-wood to give yourself the most perfect lie you can have? I use the Kirkland Signature v2 ball too! I got them on sale recently and the per ball cost was .98 cents!!! They spin a bit more than Pro V's off the tees (left or right spin) and I don't think they have as much backspin around the greens. But, for the price, you can't beat that. I'm curious to see what the v3 will be like.
I do tee my 3 wood up, but it’s only a small tee. Kind of like when you tee up an iron shot. I like to keep the same swing with my 3 wood off the fairway to the tee box rather than swinging up off the tee and down on the fairway. Less mistakes that way
@@JackFowlerGolf Yeah I saw that offer but never got around to actually doing it. Would you say it was worth it? West herts looks nice as well but never got to play there
im a 30 handicap but majority of those comes from bad tee shots and bad iron shots. Im only good about 100 yards and in, including my putting. Also, 150 out with my 7 iron.

Had the bad habbit of wanting to hit way to hard wich made my shots go all over the place, now with control i at least hit it straight. Next to that focussing on short game and putting and you see the hcp lower basically each time.
Controlled swing is key!
Great vid mate. Thanks and good luck with the channel
I actually bought a walking wheel also at Home Depot many years ago. I still have it. I'm going to do this as you suggest. Ty for that.
Enjoyed this, gonna hit up your newer videos too :)
Jack .. very impressed with the content and really good presentation. Now subbed. Carry on Sir
Thanks Sheridan 👊🏼
I need to try some of these tips. I’ve been golfing for 20 years and have yet to break 100.
Now that I've gotten past that, shooting 85 and has become so easy. ;-)
Great tips, subscriber earned
Fantastic video the quality is so good could not guess the subscribers
Thanks William, happy you think the quality is good! Didn’t come out as good as I wanted but next video will be better 👍🏼
LOVE the Kirky sigs - Great spin for the price
Can’t go wrong £1 a ball
I have a 22 ish 23 handicap I chip and put fairly well long irons and driving is my worst part I feel this is better than be the other way around
Driving range sessions would be best for you then. Working on that solid ball striking!
Nice tips! Never practised putting with 1 hand first! 👍🏼
Excellent video Jack, great tips. Can I ask where you got your clicker tube from for chipping practice? Thanks! 👍🏻
Amazon if I remember correctly
Loved the video. You did casually drop in there that you drive it 280! Any tips there?
In the summer when the floor is firm it would run out to that. Probably carrying 250 on a good one back then
What a great journey Jack. Super interesting to see. If you’re ever in Portugal and want to play some rounds and film, let me know 👌. Also subscribed 🤙🏻
Thanks Bob! Portugal looks lovely, if I’m there and get some time I’ll let you know 👊🏼
@@JackFowlerGolf sounds like a plan mate! I look forward to following your journey 👌
Great video and awesome improvement. Side note: I noticed at 4:42 that you hit the ball straight but you were aiming a bit to the right.
Great video Jack!
How often did you play golf rounds and hit the dtiving ramge within yoir first 6 months to drop your handicap?
Thank you. New sub.
First 6 months all the rounds of golf you see at the start of the video… as for practise I only went driving range about 1/2 the time night before my round of golf depending on if I had time. Only 2022 I started practising putting/chipping
@@JackFowlerGolf That's good results with that level of practice.
Thanks for the like and sub, I’ll be doing some more follow up vids soon 👊🏼
getting Garmin s62 for my bday in July so hopefully that will help me lower my hcp.
Heard great things about them
Great video, good luck with the channel
Thanks John!
Great video Jack.
bbeen playing golf on and off for 7 years only recently ive really got properly into how many days a week would you say you practice ?? great video also im very picky with some golf content but i like the straight to the point tips which is refreshing none of this hold your club this way that way :D
Thanks Liam I practise around 4/5 times a week atm trying to get to scratch
Very useful tips. Thank you!
Great video keep them coming plz . Show us the way
Awesome video man
I’ve been off the game for 20 years and stepped back into it about 4seasons ago.
Just subscribed. Great video and info. 👌🏼
Legend 👊🏼
amazing improvement. congrats
Thanks Paul
Nice vid mate ⛳️
Less mistakes that way
Nice work man! Did you really go from 19 subs to 1000 in 6 days? That should be your next tutorial 😅
Awesome video!
Playing the Grove and West Herts, while i'm out here playing Little Hay in Hemel, I'm jealous.
The grove was a birthday round when it cost £100 for twilight! It’s gone up considerably the last year tho…. Also, I’m a member now at west Herts 👍🏼
@@JackFowlerGolf Yeah I saw that offer but never got around to actually doing it. Would you say it was worth it? West herts looks nice as well but never got to play there
This video does overlook the key point. You already have a consistent swing. swing variations and margins of error are the biggest issue for us.
I didn’t have a consistent swing when I started!
Great video, cheers
Excellent video !!!!!
What’s the best app for golf in terms of being able to tell distances ?
Swingu
I try control my drive,go for middle of the green..
Putting is pretty good,chipping terrible..
Ezekiel gaming HD, haven't seen you in years mate, hope you're well!
This dude was made to play golf
can you do a whats in my bag video?
You started at 30 hcp, impressive.
This video is so good for someone who had 19 subs at the time. Congrats on blowing past your goal and getting 170k views lmao
Thanks man
Nice video man
im a 30 handicap but majority of those comes from bad tee shots and bad iron shots. Im only good about 100 yards and in, including my putting. Also, 150 out with my 7 iron.
100 yards in, chipping, putting KEEP IT IN PLAY. I lost two tee shots and one water ball. Shot myself right out of the money with these 3 holes in a row🙁🙁🙁
great video. what is the name of the gps app?
Thanks, it’s called ‘SwingU’
@@JackFowlerGolf. I use this app and love it, really helped my game.
Looks like your channel has exploded!
Heeeeyyy! We also use The Grint!
Just started playing last month and got my first round in the mid 90s the other day. Your channel is giving out some great tips and motivation! Have you got social media aswell?
