I personally love a moody little vlog. It’s nice to be reminded that I’m not the only one who gets that way sometimes and that you can be moody and still leave the house (which I need to get better at doing lol). But just taking some time and being gentle with yourself, no one can fault you for that

Not me binging your Europe vlogs to get this notification!! 🥰💌 I wanna say that the comment about influencers investing in their channel by basically ‘upgrading’ their life is a helpful conversation to have. From someone who vicariously lives through vlogs, it is sometimes easy to forget that full time content creators basically make money off of their channel - I know sometimes I get pressured or left out if I’m not going to cafes or making those lifestyle upgrades frequently but again, this is literally a source of income! I don’t think they should be hated for it - but I guess people tend to lose sight of the fact that it’s literally how they grow so thank you for sharing your two cents hehe

Feelings are allowed at any time of year, my dear. Re your little 'rant' about comments on videos, I admit that I sometimes get disappointed or annoyed when an influencer I follow suddenly becomes an affluencer, but that's because I watch a lot of sustainability proponents. When half their videos are about clothes hauls or homeware hauls it irks me but I never comment, I just slip away. I could just be jealous I suppose 😥 Have a wonderful new year!

Some UA-camrs don't recognise that their shtick of talking to the viewers as if they're penpals, triggers parasocial relationships for some who are offended when they're reminded that they are just customers. Having customers means it's about business growth, it's about getting bigger advertisers and making bigger content. Suddenly this illusion that it's just a long-distance friend telling me about her week reveals itself for what it really is. And those viewers turn a little sour. They don't want to be seen as a variable in a business equation. It's not your fault but also not surprising.
Yes, exactly, in case of a bookshop you know it’s a business from the beginning but in case of a youtuber the borders are blurry.
@@beautyeditorandmua That's a very good point. Although most people who start a channel dream of growing big enough to turn it into a business, at the beginning it really isn't yet. There are no sponsor segments, no plug to buy merchendise, your comments are guaranteed to get a reply from the UA-camr. It does feel more personal because often times it is. That changes at least on the surface level the more successful they become. The comment section which used to have 20 comments now has over 200 and yours don't get a reply anymore. The content gets bigger and might not be as relateable as before. Now there are ad reads and an attempt to sell me something. All of it is of course absolutely fine because making a living with UA-cam instead of having a 9 to 5 office job sounds great. And most people get that this was the endgoal all along. But some viewers don't. Keeping with the metaphor: They thought they were sitting on the couch in a friends home but witness how the space slowly turns into a bookstore and your friend starts trying to sell you something. It's unfair but I guess that's how it feels to them.
The thing is that if the content is not what you are looking anymore because you prefer something more “relatable” then just stop watching…it’s that simple…it has happened to me before with some content creators but you don’t see me leaving hate comments or anything of that kind… people like to think that they are our friends but then you don’t say those kind of things to your irl friends
@@francelacalderon5167 yes! this is what i was trying to get at - the comments i saw on some of my friends and fellow vloggers videos were wild and you wouldnt do that to a business just trying to grow and DEFINITELY not to someone you consider a friend so what do these people think youtubers are to them? parasocial relationships are so interesting!
@@caricakes The point is if these people thought the connection was personal, consequentially they will feel betrayed when they're starting to understand it's really not. Of course it was never personal, not really. I mean I'm sure you care about your viewers in terms of you want to give them a good experience and you're sharing certain personal things from your life. But obviously you wouldn't have the intention to meet a random subscriber for lunch and become friends in real life. But that's exactly the crux: They delude themselves that there might be a chance it could actually happen one day. When they realise it's a delusion, followed by the feeling of betrayal, all that's left is probably anger fuled by shame. These hate comments honestly are just a convenient diversion from their own deep sense of embarassement. How do you prevent that from happening? How does a UA-camr communicate boundaries without appearing impersonable? In these days of social media fame and celebrity, that's the million dollar question. Considering that Hollywood actors and Popstars get those comments all the time, I'm afraid UA-camrs probably won't find an easy solution either.

You were talking about people having growing resentment towards youtubers/influencers - i theorize this is because people are attracted to vloggers because they represent the common man, versus celebrity culture which is unattainable for most, watching someone who lives a life similar to yours feels that your life and experiences are validated. watching someone go to a cafe and grocery shop is so entertaining because it’s something we all do. we can “romanticize” boring aspects of our lives because influencers do it.
I think viewers begin to get disconnected from influencers when they stop representing the common man, their expectation of the creator begins to get invalidated.
This is just theorization, it’s a topic im very interested in academically. I would love to hear any more insight you have on this. ❤️
Holidays are hard. It feels like I am looking through windows of others homes (I'm not!) and everyone else has it all. Lots of cheer, family in the same town lots of love, lots of gifts, but for most of us it is always bitter sweet. We have some of it, but not all. I think its supposed to make us grateful for what we do have. Christmas overseas is hard, especially when you loved home. Please don't be so hard on yourself. We understand. Besides, its nothing a 10 story Barnes and Noble wouldn't fix!
