WTF Happened to Seann William Scott?

- Seann William Scott is famous for being one of the nicest guys in Hollywood. Rising to fame in 1999/2000, hot on the heels of his gross-out teen comedy hits American Pie and Road Trip, Scott was on an enviable hot streak for a while. While attempts to break him out in different kinds of roles didn’t pay off at first (the late Ivan Reitman’s Evolution and Bulletproof Monk were flops), his comedies remained highly successful, with hits that included Dude, Where’s My Car, The Dukes of Hazard and Role Models. Not one to rely on typecasting, Scott attempted to break the mould a few times, starring in Richard Kelly’s Southland Tales, the thriller Bloodline and more. While none of those films were ultimately successful, one thing that was always well received was Scott’s acting.
In 2011, Scott had one of the best roles of his career as hockey enforcer Doug Glatt in the underrated Canadian hockey classic Goon. While only a cult hit, it spawned an even better sequel, Jay Baruchel’s Goon: Last of the Enforcers, which, like its predecessor, was only a cult hit in the U.S but a significant success in Canada. Scott also took on a short-lived part on Fox’s Lethal Weapon, replacing Clayne Crawford as Damon Wayans’ co-star, but that show’s tortured production history didn’t pave the way for a long run. While Scott arguably isn’t quite a household name at this point, he remains a much-loved figure in Hollywood and still has a devoted fan base, such as the ones who suggested we profile him here. With a new show, Welcome to Flatch, on the air - Scott is one of those guys like Bryan Cranston who may go unappreciated for years but could blow up bigger than ever with the right role. Join us as we take a look back at his career in this episode of WTF Happened to this Celebrity?

Every guy in their mid 20s and 30s has a piece of this man in their hearts
Factual
yes lol
My idol
Whether they love him or hate him 😂
No
can confirm hes a great guy in person. i was a nobody assistant on dude wheres my car. but every time i tried to sneak quietly into the ADR booth where he was looping his lines in post to bring the supervising sound editor something he'd stop what he was doing, turn around and say "hey whats up man?" while dapping me up (or whatever the equivalent of that was back in the early 2000s) this guy was bigger than ashton at the time, riding that Stiffler fame, but he was way more down to earth and real than most any other actors id met in my time in film. Happy to see this YT video on him.
thx for sharing!
He wasn’t bigger then Ashton at the time. That 70s Show was one of the biggest shows in America and so was Punk’d, along with all the famous people he dated. Plus people went and saw Dude Where’s my Car mainly because of Kutcher.
@@btgkg9639 Stiffler was a worldwide movie phenomenon. Kutcher was just tv. That meant something different back then. He was an actor on an ensemble tv show. SWS was absolutely the bigger name at that point in time. Sorry bro.
@@btgkg9639 bro American pie overshadowed the 70’s show
This was great to hear 🔥
He’s one of the most underrated actors of all time. And the role he played in old school was amazing. And the more serious roles he was also great in. Not many have that wide of range. Role models is one of the great comedies.
I think you mean underrated OVERACTORS.
again its comedy its not acting. like you dont know what you are talking about. what exact recognition do you want?
how is he underrated? just because you like him? that doesn't make someone underrated
He’s a highlight in every movie he’s in
That wide of a range?... he is okay. Does a good job in his top 5 movies. But he is not great with a wide acting range. I dont think you know what "great" and "wide acting range" is if you can claim that.
Seann William Scott is an amazing actor. Easily one of my favorites.
He's not one of your favorites. Please don't lie again
@@maccusmc yes
@decock45 Why you gotta lie online like that? It doesn't make you cool.
By the time "American Wedding" rolled around, you'd swear that Stifler was the main character, since a lot of the runtime is focused on his antics.
Yes, exactly. Because originally Stifler was only supposed to be a “side character” so to speak. But he became the whole movie by the time the 3rd installment came around. He was the only good thing about Wedding, that was the weakest out of all 4 American Pie movies.
@@nsasupporter7557 honestly I always thought he was the main star lol
@@ralphwiggum1982 nah, originally it was Jim mostly… then Kevin, Oz and Finch. Stifler was just the costar who popped in and out on occasion in the first movie
James coburn was in the Carey treatment 1972 with pat hingle Regis toomey John hillierman Dan o herllihy Michael blodgett Robie porter Alex dreier directed by Blake Edwards based on novel by Michael Crichton
American Wedding was good but that was too much Stiffler and it didn't help that other key characters were missing. American Reunion was a good send off if that really is it. Stiffler was great in 1,2 and Reunion because he was a supporting character.
I think he's an underrated actor. He's hilarious and so many movies. But he also brings heart to a lot of his characters, even when they are kind of assholes.
Agree!
Was just thinking that, Balls Out: Gary the tennis coach was underrated as it had Napoleon Dynamite vibes. Out side of the slap stick he can def act
True 💯
I agree !
i thought that he was the one at Sonic 2020 .. the main man. sheesh
I went to school with Scott, Park Senior High, he was a great baseball player really good pitcher, taught me how to throw a slider, and one of the nicest people you could ever meet. Believe it or not the man NEVER and I mean Never swore. He actually started his acting stuff by getting into John Casablanca's models, and thats when he did the sunnyD commercial, in high school, not collage! When he told us about his modeling thing a lot of us chuckled but then after he left for collage he told us about a movie hes staring in but couldn't give us details till it was released. Then it came out American Pie, so the whole baseball team and football team went to see it, and the first words out of his mouth was, whats up fuck face...... we all about fell out of our damn seats! We started dying yelling, DID SCOTT JUST SWEAR????????? He came back from time to time, haven't seen him in a long time i'm not one of his closer friends more or less just teammates and thats about as far as our friendship went, but i'll never forget how polite and just over the top nice to everyone, he would even kill bullying with his kindness no one ever got upset or mad at him, it was impossible... besides if you tried every girl in the school would cast you away to be a horrible person for ever speaking to him that way lol. He didn't need guys backing him up, the girls did all that for him haha.
Lame.
Nice
thats crazy
ziga-ultra chad
So the rumors are true, he's gay and in the closet.
I ran into him in the most random of places when I was visiting my sister in USA. It was an old diner next to the highway and quite late in the night. It was literally me and his family (?) and they were all so pleasant. They even asked me to join them but I had to leave. Easily one of the nicest human beings I ever met.
He's not a bad actor at all...
Its just that his american pie character was so flawless its hard to separate him from that character
EL and Wheeler were two of his greatest roles too.
@@spenser9908who was Wheeler again?
@@nsasupporter7557 Role Models
I don’t care what anyone says but “Dude, Where’s My Car?” is one fantastic comedy!
It's supposed to be funny, not literature. I don't get people's problem with it.
I think Jo hates movies.
When I was 8 in 2001 I managed to watch it when it arrived on VHS and i couldn't stop watching or talking about it. Its up there with Harold and Kumar get the munchies, just a really fun stupid stoner comedy that I'll always stick on to forget reality.
It wasn't as good as Biodome.
Continuum transfunctioner
I can honestly say I have loved everything he has ever starred in.
Me too
So all those television shows, movies with him in supporting roles, and voice work are trash?
Sean is one hell of a actor, he has a very natural screen presence unlike many other actors. Deserves all the fame and name for making our childhood that much more better. I sincerely hope he is doing well👍
I agree
how're you gna miss the second N after how many times he mentioned it in the video?!
@@FunicularMusic thought the same ! maybe he didn't actually watch it
He's actually a really solid and down to earth guy in real life, salute to Sean William Scott, I always enjoyed the characters he played on the big screen.
Sean with two n’s lol
He has talent and he is handsome.
Spelled with two n’s lmfao
Goon and Role models are classics in my memory.
🤣 idk why I thought you were gonna say “goon and role models are classics in my hood” 😂
@Wai shis Ocsol all Seann William Scott movies are “underrated.” The only big hit movie he ever did was the movie that gave him a decent career which was American Pie. All movies he did after were “small” and not very known. Especially now, ever since 2007 he’s only done unheard of independent films
@Wai shis Ocsol the thing about it is he’s Not a big star at all. Which is why he only does “small, unknown films”
I liked Goon. I haven't seen Role Models.
@@paulbabcock2428 watch it. It silly and a more family movie. But it has some magic, you really love the characters.
Loved this dude as a kid. American Pie, Road Trip, Evolution (he basically is Stifler in all those movie lmao) but regardless he helped make them great. Dude is a legend
Southland tales and goon are two where he plays other parts
Glad he's doing alright but man I miss seeing him in movies. He brought such life to every scene whether serious or funny.
The fact that Seann William Scott kept going after being typecast AND getting hit with the double-whammy of Southland Tales and Movie 43 is a testament to his acting ability. There is no way an actor could be that resilient without having actual talent.
Cacaw Cacaw
I don't consider 43 to be a failure. Financial, maybe, but it was made to be awful.
Your videos always remind me how great it was to exist in the late 90s and early 2000s. Everything put out now a days is trash and people are waay to sensitive to everything.
Thanks so much!
@Roberto Vidal Garcia that was the 80s... and Marilyn Manson was a fkn weirdo freak so I'm with my parents on that one lol
@Roberto Vidal Garcia when American Pie first came out, the actor who played Kevin was all I knew from the movie because he was a “child actor” and was in other movies before as a kid. Rookie of the Year in 1993 and A Kid in King Arthur’s Court in 1995
@Roberto Vidal Garcia well I don’t know what their problem was. American Pie was basically the “Porky’s” of the 90s. Unless parents bitched about that in the 80s too
I concur with that
Freaking love The Rundown, such a shame it’s not a more well known movie
I honestly have never thought about it but every movie I have seen him in has been good. Bulletproof Monk definitely deserved more than it received.
RIP Country Mac. One of the best side characters in IASIP and he was in one episode.
I was lucky enough to meet Seann at a UK airport (I think the cast were doing press for American Pie 3) and he was the nicest guy you could ever meet. Stopped to chat with me and my mum and even signed an autograph for me. A true gentleman!
Hello dear how are you doing, I hope you are having a great day?
I am from Kazakhstan in Central Asia and American pie movies and Stifler made an eternal imprint in my heart. Even nowadays I rewatch these movies sometimes. Stifler is like a close friend you had in childhood who u never forget. And all my friends think the same. So you can imagine the impact of this actor that some guys from the post soviet countries still have Stifler in their hearts.
Loved his movies growing up. When I was a kid I would watch Evolution over and over on cable TV. When Old School came out it became one of my favorite comedies ever and he loved the tranquilizer scene 😂
Hockey Rocky is how I always describe Goon. It's such a perfect love letter to the sport, but also a really heartfelt journey that utilizes Scott amazingly. Sequel was just plain fun, it's not as impactful as the first movie, but it was more than enough for me to hang out with the characters again.
I had never heard of Goon until just recently. Ever since the year 2007, he’s only been doing small independent films. If you wanna see him in a super, dark serious role see Bloodline. He plays a murderer in it
Loved goon and I allowed my weakest high school player to pick 69 because he had more heart and drive then the stars I had.
ZyxthePest ... You might enjoy a Paul Newman classic comedy called Slap Shot...
@@planeandsimple431 I saw Slap Shot a LONG LONG time ago, barely remember it, might be worth another watch.
Gotta check it out !
He needs more opportunities he’s a damn good actor and I love all his roles
I remember standing at the ticket office looking at the board for " American Pie " my friends and I had no idea about the film before that moment but everyone was buying tickets to see it. I notice it was a special screening the night before it was due to be released nationwide so we grabbed some tickets and took our seats. The cinema was full and when Steve Stifler appeared on-screen everyone was just in tears of laughter, I had never seen a character do that in any movie ever! I have seen many massive films a the cinema but that was the best and most fun atmosphere of any viewing. I am so glad I was there that night and I will never forget it. Seann is awesome!!!!!!
He was really great in the “Lethal Weapon” series. He is definitely underrated. “The Rundown” was one of his best, hope they do a sequel.
if an actor, who isnt an asshole at all, makes you believe he's an absolute asshole, then that actor is damn good man!

And I never appreciated it. Thank you, this is one of my favourite episodes you've done because it really put perspective into this dude and how many hours of entertainment I owe to him and his work.

I work in small roles here and there in the film industry. The other day I walk on set for the first day of filming on a new movie and boom! Sean walks right past me with a huge smile and infectious energy ready to do the scene. Dream come true to get to work with him. One of the nicest people I’ve ever met. Easily.
He is an absolute icon...this man is hilarious and brought "The Dukes" back
I would love to see a "Role Models" sequel as I thought he had a really good character arch in that film. Going from self centered to actually caring for the well being of a child.
The "Rundown" wasn't too bad, a sequel might be okay and agree that a "Dude Where's my car" sequel would half to be off the rails insane to make it more enjoyable.
Role models was such a good movie
I didn't think anyone else remembered that movie. Boobywatcher for life.😂
@@titansarepeople1797 I like boobies🤣🤣🤣
Role models is up with Superbad as legendary comedies.
Honestly I love most movies he’s been in, because of his comedic chops. The Run Down was a fantastic comedy and Role Models was awesome as well. Most people slept on me woodcock but it was like an angry comedian vs stiffler. So good
I've always liked Mr woodcock, yet i get that it wasnt an overall good movie. But the scenes Sean William Scott and Billy Bob Thornton share together are hysterical imo. There was so much potential in this movie. R
Mr woodcock is so ducking funny
Really enjoyed role models :-).
Mr woodcock was piss funny. as was dude where's my car.
He's an awesome actor.. Cant wait to see him in another movie. Hollywood isn't using him enough..
Absolutely serious, I think he was do a great job as Indiana Jones, taking over for Harrison Ford. The Jones movies had a definite line of humor and action, and little drama, like many of Seann's movies.
I can see that
One of the actors I like very much. He’s never annoying in his delivery imo, no matter how good/bad the movie is. I agree american pie was wayyyy too successful, and it’s hurt his career (though not his bank account), along with his co-stars. Jason biggs and eddie kaye thomas are also victims of the franchise’s success imo.
Speaking of Jason Biggs, I just remembered that he was also in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Although, unlike Scott's character, Biggs' was a direct reference to American Pie.
I'd actually really like him to get more villain roles, he definitely can have a darker edge that no director has really harnessed
Watch Bloodline. He's awesome in it. And he's definitely got a darker edge in it... lol
He should be Riddler
Such a nice video. Justy by an accident got it recommended, but till this day I remember how good this actor was and still is. Thank you :))
I just recently watched Hey dude, Wheres my car? And I still love it. Sean and Ashton had awesome on-screen chemistry. Sean William Scott is still one of my to 5 favorite Actors!!
It’s just “Dude Where’s My Car.” There is no “hey” 😉
I will always love the Stiffmyster. Seann was great in American Pie films, Final Destination, and The Rundown.
James coburn was in the magnificent seven 1960 with Charles Bronson hard times 1975 with Charles Bronson again
He was great in the Goon movies and the Grocery mgr movie he did with JC Reilly too
It was very very weird seeing him in Final Destination because his character in that movie was such a “dork.” Way different from Stifler

Goon is a great movie and Seann played the role with quiet grit and sensitivity! Have watched it at least half a dozen times!
Oh, and I loved Woodcock lol!
I didnt know there were two. I think i saw the second one. I liked it.
In 2011,Goon was such an incredible breath of fresh air. I rented it on a whim, and loved every minute. It showed off just how much range he has as an actor. I had an opportunity to meet him in-person at a local restaurant, and in my opinion, he's a truly genuine, humble, and kind-hearted guy.
Too be honest, I hadn’t heard of that movie until recently. After about 2007, was when I never heard from him anymore. He did an independent film in 2008 where he plays the assistant manager of a grocery store
I as well stumbled across it a few years ago and after a few minutes I thought oh God it’s that guy but by the end of the movie I was so impressed and thought to myself he’s really been screwed by typecasting.
@@mikes4357 yes, he has! He’s a very good actor. And unfortunately, all he’ll ever be known as is the Stifler character… nothing more. What makes me mad is alot of people think he only plays Stifler in his movies which Is Not true at all. The only other movie where he plays a character similar to Stifler is Road Trip. But he wasn’t totally like Stifler in that movie, just similar to him. All of his other movies he plays different characters. He’s a good actor as I said

@Thisis Gettinboring yeah, he doesn’t have to be a huge star to be rich
"Bullerproof Monk" was amazing and yes it DID have some "Rush Hour" vibes but it was different enough to really stand out and it was just very very charming and fun to watch. I just don't get how this flick bombed so badly...
It was a comic book movie that came out 5 years too soon
I really loved Bulletproof Monk! Still one of my fav movies. I didn't care much for his work until this movie. It really made me like him and showed that he had versatility besides playing the annoying frat guy he's always typecast in.
Agreed. 😁
He's actually a great actor. His comedic timing is fantastic.
I felt he finally got his due in the Lethal Weapon tv show, and was really going somewhere then it ended abruptly. He really added what the show needed and showed his caliber
You really can't have a lethal weapon tv show without riggs
No. That show was a pile of smoldering trash.
It's sad to say that an actor like 20s Sean William Scott wouldn't be able to exist today. He was such a hilarious actor.
Why do you say that
The democrats will ban him
Met him in Bondi Australia in the early 2000’s some people I worked with were showing him the local surroundings, a really nice dude in person, got to have a brief conversation with him when he was there, not an ounce of pretension, very straight shooter and all round nice guy.
I always thought this guy was gonna be huge. He just hasn’t been used correctly I bet he’s still got some big things coming. He did great in lethal weapon.
It's all love and all mojo with this amazing dude! 😂😘 Wonderful summary of his career. 👍
Seann William Scott said that he remembers every single line from every movie he has been in. That's remarkably impressive. Shows dedication to his work.
Or that there's so little of it in the first place
Or he just has a great memory seperate from dedication
There is many movies that I know word for word and can recite if I was asked, and I'm not even an actor.
I will go to my grave touting “Goon” as one of the greatest movies of our generation. It is an incredible example of the Hero’s Journey with an emotional core of comradery, love, and finding your place in the world.
HIm and Liev had a weird and awesome chemistry.
@@bulbafett5001 seriously. They’re rivals and yet such great parallels of a character at different points in their life. There’s a mutual respect there and it shines through especially in the climax of the movie.

Man me and my buddies laughed till we had tears in our eyes when we saw the first American pie my freshman year in high school. Time sure does fly
goon is still underrated in my opinion, it truly shows the struggle of a minor league hockey player trying to make it, even tho the main character doesn't play hockey at the start, i think it represents all the players who had to give up scoring goals and making plays to start fighting to land a roster spot
Couldn’t agree more….. goon 2 is a great flick

Seann is like Bud Spencer for me in a way that I can rewatch his movies anytime and it doesn't matter, how many times I saw them already, his presence, his tone always cheers me up and I don't care, if it's stupid comedy, because the way he delivers it is always genious. For me at least.

That movie was his magnum opus.
He doesn't actually enjoy acting, he does it for a paycheck, not because it's his artistic calling or whatever.
So no we're not going to see that much of him, he makes a movie, it does okay, he gets his money and rides off into the sunset, everytime.

I've often felt unexpectedly supportive of his career and kinda found myself rooting for him to succeed. I've enjoyed a lot of his movies through the years including a bunch of the less successful ones. @@nolaray1062 right… I’m not saying that him Not being an A lister is a bad thing. If anyone wants to be an actor, just being a B lister or lower would be good enough. In fact, it’s probably better than being an A lister because really big movie stars like Tom Cruise or Jim Carrey can’t even go out in public without being mauled by people. So being a smaller star like Seann William Scott is actually the way to go… that is as long as you’re ok with being typecast as a certain character and only being known as that character like Seann Scott is
I read that he’s extremely happy and has been turning down roles for a long time and that he’s picky on the roles he does take. Happy for the dude because in his interviews the man looks to be humble and appreciative.

literally watched a movie of his yesterday. nothing happened to him, hes still making great movies
You gotta give him credit for trying to pivot to different genres: you can tell he's got the right idea, Evolution was an Ivan Reitman comedy, the Rundown was a well made, unique action flick, Bulletproof Monk could've had a large international audience, Ice Age is an animated franchise, and Goon was a dramatic role/sports movie. There are some roles he might have done for $$$ that contributed to typecasting-- but he's definitely working more regularly than most of the American Pie cast.

Hope one day he'll be recognized for his talent and not just in comedic parts. He deserves it.
I loved Southland Tales - it's super wacky but it has some fantastic cameos, a great soundtrack by Moby and may not execute well but definitely does a good job a giving a hopeless self destructive feeling while almost laughing at the situation at the same time.
This movie is one of the most underrated incredible films of our time. I feel like 200 people have seen it. Unfortunate fate.
I'm a huge fan and I love how his career has progressed over the years.
Before I Go is a awesome movie. It had crude moments but it has many more heartfelt moments and a great message. And of course I love him as Stifler.
he is underrated brilliant actor....an icon of early 2000s pop culture....
I want to jump into a time machine and go back to the day that American Pie was released
Goon was shot in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba where I was living at the time. It used a bunch of local people as extras and some of them met Seann (spelled with two Ns). Apparently he's a super nice guy.
They had to use cardboard cut outs cause they couldn't get enough locals.
I sure as hell didn't go but my friends did!
My sister was working at burger king. Jay burachel got some food and was super cool to staff. Working.
Seann William Scott is the best thing in everything he's in. Goon is such a great movie.
After Stifler; Southland Tales, Goon and his most dramatic role, Bloodline. Great actor.
One of my favorites as a kid, great in the rundown
Goon is one of my all-time favourite comedies
The rundown with the Rock was my favorite movie he did
Goon is one of my all time favorites.
A must-watch for any hockey fan
I was in a theatre when the trailer for “bulletproof mink” was projected. The entire theatre burst into laughter thinking it was a parody. Then we are we’re like WTF when the credits suggested it was serious.
