Thanks very much for explaining this. I have the same issue with Absolute Sandman volume 1 and having tried 3 copies they were all the same. This has put my mind at ease so thanks for the video.
I had to same exact problem on my absolute sandman voljme 1. I tried this glue method twice already but it eventually seperates again no matter what i do.
Thanks for this I have one omni which has started to separate but not fully after 1 read through (new x-men by Morrison) so if it ever fully comes apart I’ll get some of that proper book bind glue you have 👍 nice one
Highland G I read it about a year ago and for a grant Morrison book it wasn’t too hard to follow but after my first read some of the ribbon came apart but it’s a enjoyable read especially because it leads to astonishing x-men which I really recommend
Thanks for this video. My copy of New X-Men is having the same issue with the binding/ribbon. I'm not ready to attempt this surgery yet, but when I do, I'll definitely be checking back here to watch your video again. And, yes, New X-Men is DEFINITELY worth reading. I highly recommend it..
Could the excess glue that spills out have a chance of gluing the pages together? I'd be afraid of that, as when if it dries while the pages are glued, peeling it off may tear or damage the paper. Or is that something that usually doesn't happen?
With the book left spine down to dry, the glue cant really clime up into the pages. You may get a little at the edges of the block which you could clean off with a slightly damp cloth before leaving to dry if you prefer. I haven't found it to be an issue for me personally.
You are the second person to mention this problem with Absolute Sandman Vol 1.. I'm really close to purchasing these books.. How bad is the binding? If you had to do it all over again, would you still buy it?! Also, if you could do me, and anyone else wondering, a solid and tell me which printing you have? That might help in making the decision. Thanks so much.
It can, it really depends book to book. This is very much a try at you own risk kind of thing, so personally I done it on a lot of cheaper books to build my confidence before trying it on more expensive ones. The main thing is that this is to address cosmetic separation between the end ribbon and the hardened glue, not structural separation between the hardened glue and the page block as that is harder to do without damaging the book. I hope that makes sense.

Glad I could help!

Thanks for the comment. I hope my video helps you.
How is the story in New X-men, its one I haven't read yet, you enjoying it?

I just recently got Absolute Sandman 1 and I'm already seeing this start to happen.
Is that something I should be concerned with, should I return it?
Its up to you. Really depends how bad it is as its mostly cosmetic.

sorry for the late reception but does this work on DC absolutes?

the ribbon is completely cosmetic, it doesn't serve much of any structural purpose
Technically speaking yes but it does help the binding to be more of a curve rather than a spike. That and it looks nice.
