I lived in Bradford beginning in 1956 and again after having returned from Miami, Fla. in 1961. Left for good in 1964. I can't believe how many houses have been torn down. Hobson Place school, where I attended 2nd grade, is gone. The factory on Davis Street is gone. Alot of the companies that were there in the 1960s have left. Still, it was a great place to live as a child.
Love this video! I grew up in Bradford as well. I had an idyllic childhood there. Lived there from 1976 until 1984. I attended 4th Ward Elementary and School Street Junior High (when it was a junior high!). Spent 2018 New Year's there. Got a dose of how cold it can be there again! It was wonderful and magical! I was surprised how little had changed since I left there. Would love to hear from others who might remember me. So pleased that someone took these videos!
Hey Eric, we were classmates! I was Cindy Mytton back then ;) I lived there from 1979-1985 and went to the same schools. Just happened to stumble on this and immediately recognized your name.
Thank you for this video. We left Bradford for Colorado about 6x years ago. We hope to move back to these green hills in the near future! Thanks for making me miss home even more!
"Doc" Cawley has written several books about the area and the oil fields of long ago. There's nothing spectacular about any of the towns, but the forest is by far one of the greatest in the entire country. And the forest is gigantic literally the largest national forest in the USA. These small towns are nestled deep within them and unless you're from here or around it, nobody really comes here much. Being from here, I have had the benefit of a lifetime of getting to know the place. There exists here a deep and storied past which might not easily be apparent with just a cursory glance. The surrounding towns all have their place in the industrial complex of the last two centuries. But today, as they sit, there is little else these places feel they can contribute. The Corning Glass Co. of Corning NY has had a great deal to do with this area over the last century. Not so much any more, but Corning Glass Co is still alive and well in Corning, NY. The USA would not, could not have won world war two without the innovations in technology produced by Corning Glass Co. This area is very precious to those who know its history and have lived here. But its so backwards and forgotten that it really hasn't got much of a future unless someone comes up with a "new business plan" for these areas so that they might at least have some direction. Until then, its just nostalgia.
I honestly miss it here so much. I moved away at around the age of 12 (Around 2011), and have been searching for videos ever since. It's crazy how much things change over time...
It’s an easy place to miss man, I’m 19, lived there until I was 12 in 2010, moved to NC for 6 years but HAD to go back. Missed it too much. Still miss it. It’s got a lot of history and Known worldwide for Zippo. I wish it were a better place and had less drug issues, otherwise I would still be at home.
Haven't been to Bradford in 8 years when I got really sick . Had a lot of friends there . Used to hang out on E. Main . Our standing joke was from Zippo factory to JJ's was 4 minutes where 3 or 4 Old Milwaukee would be waiting for us on the bar .
I was born in Bradford.. lived there 18 years. My mom worked for ZIPPO 37 1/2 YRS. Graduated in 69'.. left for the military. Never went back.. I have very few relatives there. Most moved away or died.. I very active in sports and NEVER KNEW THE GREAT EDUCATION I GOT FROM B RADFORD SCHOOLS UNTIL I GOT OUT IN THE REAL WORLD!!!!! SOLDIERS MY AGE WERE WAY BEHIND ME.. ALSO, I WAS NO HONOR STUDENT.. As, B's, & maybe a few C's... I grew up in 5th WARD!! ITALIAN NEIGHBORHOOD!! Best place I ever lived!!!!! I still have many friends there. Try to go there for ITAIAN FESTABLE WHEN I CAN.. I MISS THE ITALIAN SAUSAGE TOMMY MONGILLO MADE.. I COULD GO ON N ON N ON... LOVE YOU BRADFORD, PA... BILL METZO... IN KY..
Bradford once had its glory days. The oil boom started in PA. with oil discovered in the state just prior to the Civil War. Oil produced millionaires and prominent families in Bradford. It's "twin city" in prosperous oil was Olean, New York just 25 miles across the hills. Those glory days are long gone and people struggle to stay afloat not wanting to leave their homesteads, their friends and families. These once proud cities, like most of the country, are crumbling and poverty not prosperity now encompasses their lives. It's sad, very, very sad and this music seems to convey that reality.
People are always putting down our town and saying how terrible it is. Well my 17 years of being born and raised here I have to say that I love this town and I am proud to say I was born in the small town of Bradford PA. When I'm finished with my education I may move but Ill always come back because that's where my roots are and that's where they'll always stay.
I was born and raised there it can be Sadford (which some call it) to big towns like L.A. or it can be a place you call a homeA house is not a home unless you apreiatate it
I was born in bradford pa and have lived there most my life I once lived on west cordon street and highstreet not a bad town some bad people though. Its beatiful from above I wanna go kayaking down the spillway still.

I would if it were for the woods and water. There is nothing here but trash and trash. And that's speaking of the ppl
Incredibly beautiful scenery, homes, cleanliness. Had visited nearby Allegheny National Forest. Will go next time.
The mountain views
are stunning.
Must be pretty in the fall.

When I think of America, this is the kind of place I picture. It looks like a nice town, too. And the birthplace of an American icon.
