A summer afternoon above Bradford PA

A summer afternoon above Bradford PA
Lived in Bradford in the early 1960s and remember those Christmas parades. I always think of Bradford as my hometown.
"Doc" Cawley has written several books about the area and the oil fields of long ago. There's nothing spectacular about any of the towns, but the forest is by far one of the greatest in the entire country. And the forest is gigantic literally the largest national forest in the USA. These small towns are nestled deep within them and unless you're from here or around it, nobody really comes here much. Being from here, I have had the benefit of a lifetime of getting to know the place. There exists here a deep and storied past which might not easily be apparent with just a cursory glance. The surrounding towns all have their place in the industrial complex of the last two centuries. But today, as they sit, there is little else these places feel they can contribute. The Corning Glass Co. of Corning NY has had a great deal to do with this area over the last century. Not so much any more, but Corning Glass Co is still alive and well in Corning, NY. The USA would not, could not have won world war two without the innovations in technology produced by Corning Glass Co. This area is very precious to those who know its history and have lived here. But its so backwards and forgotten that it really hasn't got much of a future unless someone comes up with a "new business plan" for these areas so that they might at least have some direction. Until then, its just nostalgia.
There's lots of "backwards" here. Im from several miles from here and they've struggled here for many, many, many decades....most people here are just born into the place and are stuck with whatever was just there. There's an old saying something like..... the next ones born upon the stage stop to look around and say "well obviously this is the way things are SUPPOSED to be, cuz there it is and here we are." When you're born into a depressed and forgotten area you either get out altogether, like most do, and see the world or you just stay here and your world is severely diminished. Ive been in and out of this area for about 40 years now and I still have family here and all over the country. This place has so much potential but there's just not enough brain power here to even understand what they have let alone what do do with it.
I live in Warren Pa. It is beautiful here!
I lived in Bradford as a child in the early 1960s. Many happy memories, but the Winters can be brutal.
I lived in Bradford beginning in 1956 and again after having returned from Miami, Fla. in 1961. Left for good in 1964. I can't believe how many houses have been torn down. Hobson Place school, where I attended 2nd grade, is gone. The factory on Davis Street is gone. Alot of the companies that were there in the 1960s have left. Still, it was a great place to live as a child.
Incredibly beautiful scenery, homes, cleanliness. Had visited nearby Allegheny National Forest. Will go next time.

Hello there . Good video. Just wondering is that bed in a slide out ,? I'm going to do mine and trying to get access to the engine, in my 05 winnabego journey 350 cat the bed has a metal frame and has a hydraulic cylinder in the middle. Do you have a video of more detail on getting access to the motor . Thanking you in advance!!

Is the edge of the crater dangerous? I would be tempted to look in.
Not dangerous at all! You can look down into it easily but the climb up is tough.
Bradford once had its glory days. The oil boom started in PA. with oil discovered in the state just prior to the Civil War. Oil produced millionaires and prominent families in Bradford. It's "twin city" in prosperous oil was Olean, New York just 25 miles across the hills. Those glory days are long gone and people struggle to stay afloat not wanting to leave their homesteads, their friends and families. These once proud cities, like most of the country, are crumbling and poverty not prosperity now encompasses their lives. It's sad, very, very sad and this music seems to convey that reality.
Miss bradford so much
Nice video - we are planning our itinerary up from Sedona to Flagstaff on Rt. 179N and will pick up Rt. 89N a little further north were it meets Rt. 179N into Oak Creek Canyon. Looks like a fantastic ride with beautiful vistas. Happy we picked this route vs. Rt. 17N. Safe Travels.
