    Just got a Falkniven A1 Survival Knife, what a great knife. Now, the price for this high quality will vary between $170 to $300, but the laminated VG10 Steel is well worth it. The convex edge is amazingly sharp, one of the sharpest knives I have every seen out of the box. Full Review coming soon.

    @aborocz , you are absolutely correct in reference to using the right tool for the right job. My intent in regard to the "testing" video is push the use. I take these tools out and test them in unreasonable extremes to ascertain their durability, and the function-ability in a relatively short amount of time. I don't want people to perceive that these are "instructional" videos on "how to" that is a separate section of the channel.

    That wood looked like a darker madrone. Like oaky but more knotted and bush like. Thats my best guess. Thanks for the demonstration, very nice.

    Adam, i'm glad you joined the Fallkniven A1 fan army ;) It's an amazing knife, i'd say the world best one, but am not familiar with the expensive US brands like Busse and Bark River. About the wood - can't say from this video, but from what i've seen it looks a little like an old cherry.

    The wood you choose for "jobs " is as important as the tools carried in to the woods. High resin, easy splitters and hot burners for tinder for fire starting, stubborn splitters and dense woods for long burning into the evening. Like the wood you choose for a bow drill, hearth, drill and socket. Different wood for different jobs.

    I really like all the equip2endure videos and reviews, keep up the good work Adam! I just have one small comment, the name of the company is Fällkniven, and is pronounced "Fellkniven" not "Fallkniven", not because it matters really but..
    Anyway, love your videos!

    Very nice Adam. I am liking that particular knife and I think it will serve very well for its intended purpose. What is the handle made out of?

  • @Halberdier2
    @Halberdier2 13 років тому

    @Equip2Endure: It was actually the Benchmade CSKII. It chipped pretty badly with only some light chopping in a cold environment. Cold weather performance is another reason to spend a little more for the laminated steel of a Fallkniven.

  • @Diopterman

    I think the VALUE in this high priced knife is there. It sure as heck is a lot more value for the price than some of the other blades that you have reviewed lately!

  • @Proteus3000
    @Proteus3000 11 років тому

    That depends on what you want if you want ease of sharpening go with the ESEE if you want a blade that is very stain resistant get the Fallkniven either way you can't go wrong with either although ESEE has the best warranty.

    a jungle is a pretty moist environment as well so you would have to keep an eye on the blade so it doesn't rust on you.

    @MrDowneast , all of the Falkniven are pricey because of the VG10 LAM is hard stuff to work with. But I have seen some great buys out there on the $170 which is a great deal,

  • @Equip2Endure

    @sauliusipsc , I don't care for coatings on stainless blades, it's just not needed. If a blade is reflective it has other survival applications.

    @Equip2Endure The knife that had a chip was the A2 and nutnfancy stated that it was because it impacted the ground after passing through the wood he was battoning. He further stated that it would not prevent him from owning and recomending Fallkniven knives

  • @lmglange
    @lmglange 13 років тому

    @TheBgcheez
    take it easy... it only chips if you hit rocks, stones etc... it will not chip on wood. But I have heard reports on the factory egde chipping (Fallknivens has a tiny secondary egde on the convex egde). If this is rigth you just have to sharpen it.

    So I wonder coating just reduces the picture of the knife at the night time without any other advantages! My all knives are coated black and that is probably more of a preference? Nice review, just get an easier logs to split next time :)

    i also think that in switzerland where the weather is often wet it's an advantage to have a stainless knife. on the other side, in the jungle you don't seem to have rust problems with an esee 5

  • @Equip2Endure

    @GuyTatt , It's a hell of a lot sharper than the BK-2, but not as good of a chopper.
    - Adam

  • @Proteus3000
    @Proteus3000 11 років тому

    that's the problem with any stainless knife but as long as you dont hit any rocks or hard surfaces you should be fine. i sometimes do get small chips with my Fallkniven knives but they are easy to file out. Even with the ESEE you can get dents or chips if you hit a hard material like concrete and with the ESEE you have to keep any exposed steel oiled or it will rust on you.

  • @MrKevtmiller
    @MrKevtmiller 12 років тому

    Because the vg10 edge is so hard, it WILL chip if it contacts bone. My f1 did while cleaning a deer last fall.

    @chabochi1 Im unable to find a SRK available in the SK5 steel. The two models being produced now are the 38CSM in San Mai III and the 38CK in AUS 8A. The AUS 8A used is a low chrome higher carbon version of stainless steel, so it does have better edge retention than most standard stainless. In my opinion, the AUS 8a still does not take or hold an edge well enough for a survival blade, at least not in the SRK model knives.

  • @Equip2Endure

    With that knob on the baton you may be able to hang it on a low branch where Ace can't get to it.

  • @dieHoelzer
    @dieHoelzer 11 років тому

    to be honest i don't know anything about sharpening. but the esee 5 looks so cool and it's a bit cheaper. plus i heard bad things about a1s that chipped.

  • @chabochi1
    @chabochi1 13 років тому

    this comment is about the SRK... most reviews/reviewers tend to shy away from the new steel being used (SK 5)
    is it really so bad? or
    is it simply not as good as the Carbon V...but still good.
    I would like to get an SRK but Carbon V is not as easy to obtain as the SK 5.

  • @aborocz

    I would have to suggest that some woods split more easily than others, and trying to split a hard splitting wood with your only knife would be bad bushcraft. I feel it goes against a fundamental conservation of resources, really nice resources. The ability to baton, i think, should be an emergency action only with a knife. Perhaps used for a hot burning tinder such as pine or cedar. This is one of my basic arguments for carrying an ax. It is a tool designed for the task of splitting.

    @Equip2Endure Just stick with the simple cut transitions. It's what is used most in the TV world. THen wait a few seconds between the next cut so it doesn't seem so choppy in what you are trying to edit. Think less is more.

    Furthermore, this knife is marketed as a "Survival" knife, and we tend to not have everything we need in a survival situation. If we did, we would not be surviving, but camping. In reference to Bushcrafting, I love the lessons, philosophy, and mindsets of the bushcrafting community, but they do not constitute the entirety of my subscribership.
