    Well, I can say that Gerber has fixed the problem the the pommel, but the serration constituted a big issue for me personally. For $60.00 MSRP, (I paid $50) you get a Whistle, Sharpening Stone, Fire Starter, Knife, and a Sheath that I believe is a step backwards from the LMF2. While some people are going to hate this knife others will love it. I say, it was not bad. I think if we dumped the serrations and focused on something more rugged to include the sheath we would be at a better place, but there are a lot of options for this price point.

    I usually use that method. I realize that it eventually will convex the edge, but I'm a fan of convex edges, so thats not an issue. Thanks for watching

    @ZoroSnipez ,yes, testing out the section of the spine designed for this task. Using your your knife on a firesteel is very common place and works very well as long as there is a good angle on the spine, the coasting does not interfere and the metal is of significant hardness.

    I've got the nonserated version. It was dull to my standards. I put an edge on it and really like it for camping and fishing. I prefer my esee and kbar for survival. I have the lmf 2 which is a good knife too. I carried a sog seal team in Iraq and I love those knives. Thanks for your efforts.

    Finally someone shedding some light on this thing! Thanks for making this. I've had my eye on this thing like everybody else, but also shared the same doubts. I'm totally with you on the issue of the serrations. IMO serrations have no business on a survival blade in particular or on outdoor knives in general; I just don't find them useful in any worthwhile way. I've found that the factory edge from Gerber is generally disappointing, but I like the design - just wouldn't trust my life to it.

    you can tell if its a bad one because the orange stripe above the pommel. if its a new one it gets thicker towards the back of the knife -if its an old one its thinner and the same thickness all the way around. its a great knife i love mine

    Hi Adam, i'm from germany and i am glad, that i could get a becker bk2 (there's only one german internet-store where i could buy it) - i had a bg ultimate knife, so i could compare theses two knifes. There's no comparison - the bk2 is the best bushcraft knife i've ever seen.

    I like the glock81 very much. I have it attached on my 5.11 rush 24 backpack that I use when hunting. The plastic sheath is great with the click system, there is no way the knife can fall out, so you can have it attached upside down if u like. I use the knife mostly for clearing branches that are in the way. I also have the Cold Steel bushman, but I like Glock better, because the handle feels better when chopping. The con is rusting of the knife. For the price I say buy it, if army uses it..

  • @tomasvrbiak
    @tomasvrbiak 13 років тому

    I like the test you did with the Knife. Just one think. I'm testing if the blade is sharp enought on my hand - trying to shave it. It is because not all types of steel can make angle (by sharpenign) which is able to shave. And i was able to shave hand with this knife and it was the first think i tryed with it.
    With paper test you are not able to compare other knifes, unless you have all the time the same type of paper.
    PS: Thanx for this video.

    had this knife out in the bush for an hour and it snapped while makeing a shelter. waste of money, for 60 bucks, id pay 5 dollars more and get the cold steel srk its a great knife, you should do a review on it someday. your videos tell you what you want to know about these knifes and im a fan keep up the good work

    Hey Mr.Euip Endure. I was a small knife collector as a child, Swiss army, etc...now older and getting back into it, your videos are amazing.... Recently purchased an esee for edc and I'm looking for a knife to use as an all around camping, hunting knife. I love this esee but I'm torn between the bk2 and esee 5, I want something 1/4 thick and love both of those designs. Just worried about the slippage of the bk 2 sheath... Thank for reading my comment!!

    @gavkoo From all the wearing of the knife I did this summer the angle isnt for sharpening its for ease of carry against the case and leg ... the angle actually matches the path from the tip to he handle so the sheath doesnt fold into the blade and warp the sheath too much, making it uncomfortable. With the diamond stone attached to the scabbard it can be set at ANY angle you choose by using your leg and the rest of the sheath.

    Of coarse serious knife enthusiasts dis this knife. I didnt like it much myself, however, I think that for the target demo this is a good knife as has been mentioned above-it saves a life! Most weekend warriors simply aren't willing to pay big bucks nor have the basic survival skills but in a bind they will have some great info and basic life saving tools to get them through a bad situation. All in one cheap and easy to get package.

    Bought myself one of the BG Ultimate Survival knives for my birthday. Like it so far, but the real test of field usage will have to wait until spring or summer (camping season). Good ergonomic feel to the knife, edge needed touched up a bit to achieve its full potential for sharpness.
    BTW, it's Ferrocerium rod.(ferro-CER-ee-um)... an alloy of Iron (Fe, atomic number 26) and Cerium (Ce, atomic number 58), plus a sprinkling of rare earth metals. It's not ferroceum, ferrocium, ferroseeum, etc.

  • @StoutNerd
    @StoutNerd 13 років тому

    paper is really delicate, you need a polished edge to cut paper the way you wanted, the diamond stone has a real tough grain, it tears up more metal to form an edge and its good when your knife is really dull, when you use it it will deminish the ammound of metal on the edge but will leave the edge with microscopical uneven "valleys". After sharpening it with that diamond stone you need to use something to polish it, a low grain stone or even cardboard/leather/regular stone around you will work.

    my pamal snaped off like 1 in up the tang and the knife does NOTTTT HAVE A FULL TANG very mad b/c the case said full tang and like i said it snaped off 1in 1 1/2 in toward the blade and the was no tang so i took it apart and the tang only went ONE INCH IN
