  • The Fallkniven a1 is one of my favourite knives. It has good performance and makes an excellent care free survival knife. For me the knife has both proved itself and has nostalgic worth to me. I'll never get rid of it.

    Helpful tip, wrap a ranger band around the tension tab portion of the sheath. It makes the sheath much more secure and eliminates rattle. I went from hating the sheath to loving it.

    the aluminum guard on the pro series is a great idea as I had the same problem with the thermorun handle splitting after extensive batoning. Not a failure just near the blade. still one of the best knives available.

      +Ted Mears (bear bushcraft) i have seen some weird reviews on the fallknivens. I like them very much! If they would be bad the swedish and certain departments of the US army wouldnt use the Fallkniven. Thanks a lot for the comment. I'm sure you will be happy with the fallkniven. VG10 is a very well balanced steel, stays sharp, takes a good edge and is easy to patch up. In my opinion it's one of the best balanced steels out there. I also love how fallkniven is a care-free package. No fancy stuff but pure quality and usability.

      +Dutch Bushcraft Knives From what I've been able to find out about this knife, it's superior to Cold Steel. I know you don't like Cold Steel, but I do. When out in the field, your knife, or what ever, has to hold up to what you put it through and still dish it out. So I'm very interested in seeing what this knife is really like.

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  9 років тому +1

      I have been doing some reviews for an European knife shop and we talked about doing a comparison between the Fallkniven A1 and the Cold steel SRK in San Mai VG1. So I might be able to do an apples to apples comparison in the future. But could be next year. I have read different opinions about both knives. Some say Cold steels handle is more comfortable and has better geometry while others say the laminated VG10 of Fallkniven has better edge retention.
      What concerns me most about the SRK is that i've read some reports of SRK's that broke in half where the blade comes out of the handle.
      I would be very interested in testing these 2 side to side without picking a side before testing.

    • @joeking4389
      @joeking4389 9 років тому +1

      +Dutch Bushcraft Knives That would be an interesting test. I've never known a Cold Steel knife to break, except when thats what they were trying to do.

    I have alot of high end knives. This is my favorite for all the reason in this video. Also the new Pro Line is coming out this October 2015. The A1 pro will have Laminated Cobalt steel. an aluminum bolster. thicker at the spine with a corresponding thinner edge. slight increase in belly. more contours on the zytel with molle compatibility.
    it comes in a padded dry box with a dc4.

      I just read this in the catalog:
      Understandably these knives fall into a higher price category. However, considering the unparalleled quality they are by no means over priced. A professional survival knife should be able to be relied upon in the all-weather and we really mean all weather. It should also be pleasant, safe and comfortable to handle whether it’s fine or rough work, summer heat or winter cold. We have considered everything in the design of this quite superb knife and we, therefore, offer a lifetime warranty on materials and workmanship.

    Say Heah Dutch, Yeah, I saved this video and even shared it to myself in my e-mail and stored it in a special file to watch special videos and your has made tgat list. Good show. I learned something new and it works great, I know can use any of my knives with blades larger than 8" and up as a 1knife carry option and do all knife. I learned if you put a long lanyard on a large knife over your elbow and around your busep, than hold the tip, we all know the closer the hand to the tip you get better cintrol, that's why we use short knives to do close work. So by holding the large by the tip, you can also have very good control, the lanyard supports the weight if tge knife set up over your elbow and around your bicep then holding it close to the tip you can De-breast a Dove or a Grouse or Skin and Clean a Squirrel or a Rabbit, Clean Fish or do delicate work on wood, simply by attaching a large knife with a long lanyard, and it works great, I'm sure after you get use to holding a large knife like tgat you can eventually use it without a lanyard but the lanyard does support the weight if a large knife great. pretty good Eah ? Take care my Friend.

    Say Heah Dutch, Yeah, It's defenetly a good and strong knife. I was blown away when I saw the destruction video here on UA-cam, very impressive. It's one of my Fav's, But I also had one modified and it too became a Fav's of mine, now I have two that I can depend on,One is for wet weather around water camping and one isn't a laminated blade but made out of a good carbon similar to the 5160 but with more carbon, It's my Modde Rodent 6, I had it thinned down and the top gaurd taken off and now it look's like a beefy RatManDu on steriods a very good deferentially tempered knife. I like a 6" blade, although lately I've been experimenting with a 7 1/2" blade as a 1knife option, but it has to have a choil, then it's like carrying two knife size in one. But yrah, if you haven't seen that destruction, check it out, I think you'll be impressed. Good job Dutch, I enjoyed this video. ,, ,, ,,

    Well, as much as i would love go for a Fallkniven, the amount of time i would get to use it brought me to a more pocket friendly alternative for my heavy weight knife. Living in the UK sucks, but it means i have some great small ass knives dedicated to finer tasks. So i decided to try out the Schrade SCHF36. so far i like the weight and heft of it, but i need to adjust the bevel some. Dont know if you have any experience with this knife?

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  8 років тому +1

      +pai pai
      I have looked at the knife before but I have no experience with it. It has a very good price though. Most 1095 knives are overpriced as 1095 is a kind of cheap steal. But for the price it should perform very very well. The knife also looks sturdy enough for survival and bushcraft purposes but as you said it needs to be sharpened to get rid of that micro bevel.
      I think you made a great choise.
      Living in holland isn't great for bushcraft either but I am very lucky to poses a small piece of forest where I can do anything I want never having to think about the law of carrying knives etc.

    • @interestingyoutubechannel1
      @interestingyoutubechannel1 8 років тому

      +pai pai As far as I know, you can hold big knives in the UK as long as its not on your person (at the bottom of your rucksack) when in public, and that you can prove you are using it for a purpose e.g. you're a cook who works in a kitchen, or proving you need it for fishing, or I guess for bushcraft. Am I wrong?

    • @paipai7460
      @paipai7460 8 років тому

      +interestingyoutubechannel sounds about right but the law here is pretty unspecific in this area.

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  8 років тому

      In the Netherlands we can carry outside of town but it has to have a reason. Poking wild pigs wouldn't be valid but bushcrafting or survivaling would be accepted. It also depends on the person in question. A officer in our city erea wouldn't be understanding while an officer in our more woody ereas wouldnt even blink.

      Vg-10 is brittle if it hits a harder object like stone or sand. Softer steels will just bend but likely don't hold their edge as long.
      just try to avoid hitting the ground or you can put on a larger angle (which i don't recommend)

    Hee Jongens, ik ben al even op zoek naar een SHTF long term survival knife, Ik zit er toch sterk aan te denken om de A1 te nemen in VG10. Mijn vraag aan jullie nu alleen is of Lam.VG10 niet chipped na zwaar gebruikt en of het handvat niet los komt te zitten? Ik vraag dit omdat ik bang ben dat het handvat los komt na het batonnen van grote stukken hout.

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  7 років тому

      +European Prepper hey, het handvat heeft bij mij na heel wat baronnen en 6 jaar use nog geen speling. Vg10 kan chipjes krijgen als je hard materiaal als steen raakt. In de juiste geometrie heb ik dat echter nog nooit meegemaakt op hout.

    • @europeanprepper9488
      @europeanprepper9488 7 років тому

      Okay top! Weet je ook of VG10 een goede edge retention heeft, beter dan 1095? En valt VG10 makkelijk op rivierstenen te slijpen na een lange dag bushcraften? Ik hoor het graag!

    • @DutchBushcraftKnives
      @DutchBushcraftKnives  7 років тому

      Hey, VG-10 is naar mijn mening vele malen beter dan 1095. 1095 is een budget staal. VG-10 is vrij eenvoudig te slijpen en zal ook op een riviersteen slijpbaar zijn. Makkelijk zal het niet zijn 59 HRC VG-10 zal wel een harde steen vereisen.
      1095 van esee is op een riviersteen te slijpen omdat dit 55-57 HRC is. dit is veel te zacht voor 1095 om een fatsoenlijke snede te behouden. 55-57 HRC ziet men voornamelijk op machete's zodat ze niet chipped of breken bij harde klappen. Daarnaast is VG-10 stainless wat een grote plus is in elk survivalscenario (behalve woestijn...). 1095 heeft last van micro-oxidation. Dit wil zeggen dat de uiterste moleculen op de snede oxideren waardoor je extreme scherpte heel snel verliest. Dit heb je niet op VG-10.
      cheers!

Never tried to confirm the story but we did similar tests and it wasn’t bull shit!! We did everything possible to break that knife! We used it as everything from a chisel to a MRE opener. Say Heah Dutch, Your right my modde rodent 6 does sort of looks like a beefy RatManDu on steriods, and your right the Busse Technology makes that 52100 Ballbearing Steel into a pretty though blade (knife). I also had it thinned down and I can get real nice curls. But that area where tgey took the top gaurd off allows me to beable to chop better, infact I was pleasantly surprised that it came out that way, and because it started off as a robust knife, It's a very good chopper for its size. Yeah, defenetly one of my Fav's only followed by the Fallkniven A-1 and my Bokor 2011 Collection is showing promise in the 440c. But the A-1 and my Modde Rodent 6 work the best for me. I'm sure my ASH-1 would be a great knife in that size, but I had it coated in the Green American Flag Cerakote and so far it's just eye candy, but who knows down the line. ,, ,, ,,

:) cheers!

      @DutchBushcraftKnives  8 років тому

      Ik hoor over d2 verschillende verhalen. de een zegt dat het heel goed is terwijl de ander zegt dat het heel chipgevoelig is. Kijk eens of brisa.fi. Dat is een finse site waar je Enzo's kan kopen. Die verkopen ook messen in d2 tegen een goede prijs. Ik heb zelf de enzo trapper in 01, 690Co en CPM s30v. Prima mesjes! Als je een groter formaat wilt is de enzo camper of badger in D2 een goede optie.
      Voor CPM3V of elmax moet je bij Bark river wezen. Je kunt ze het meest voordelig kopen op dlttrading.com. Met import kosten alsnog goedkoper dan ze kopen in europa.

      +Ari Gato klopt alleen heb je dan de aus-8 variant. een kwalitatief stuk minder goed staal. Als je de sanmai III versie wilt hebben die vergelijkbaar is met de fallkniven ben je in Nederland ook rond de 200 kwijt. En dan nog vind ik het kraton materiaal van het handvat minder fijn als de thermorun van fallkniven.
