As an AEMT, we always bring defibrillators. Also, thanks for the “Drs in the field” comment. Flattering but we’re not doctors. Don’t tell the paramedics that.
“Catching a cold” in the cold also happens more often in the winter because of poor air circulation. People tend to huddle indoors during cold times, “air out” the house way less frequently “shut the door! We’re not heating the outside!” and temperature fluctuations tend to mess with your immune response.

My little brother did the sleepwalking thing three times during childhood, to my knowledge. Twice he was apparently dreaming about going to the bathroom...well you can guess why. Anyways, the main time he came out and sat on a chair one night while I was talking with my parents. I asked him why he was up and he didn't respond. Dad said he's sleepwalking, guide him back to his bed and don't wake him. Afterwards I asked him if anyone else ever did the sleepwalking thing. He mentioned my older sibs doing so once or twice each, but that was about it. He had never known me to do so, and my Mom's never mentioned it.
I usually don’t comment but I found it fascinating that people spent what 10 years believing that rolling your tongue was genetic when it took me maybe 10-20 hours over a couple months using my fingers to roll my tongue and then using muscle memory to roll it. I was jealous my younger sister could do it and I could not and I was maybe 10 years old.
I’ve always had a knack for imitating sounds and voices, it’s definitely not gene based but brain wiring can help, another example is how some people are incredible at math but I for one am lost without a calculator

I had a whole quarter dedicated to addiction in my Masters therapy class. I'm so glad this video and channel spoke on this! It's true, technically "food," is not addictive, it's how the some people's brain reacts to it! That's why we can shift blame from the individual and help them heal !
I'm not kidding when I say this, when I was in elementary school we were taught that human blood is blue before it reaches the heart and is oxygenated. Lol. That makes no sense. This wasn't too long ago, I'm old, but not ancient. Lol. 1992 or 93. But to think that's just one of the many things that we were taught that was completely wrong, and there is a ton, enough to write a book about, it absolutely blows my mind. So many things have changed just in the past 30 years. Even things they were teaching us in middle and high-school, a lot of it has been found out to be wrong, some ended up being backwards. It's mind-blowing, amazing, and also kinda frightening. Then again, in the state I live in, they no longer teach cursive writing. Which I find extremely sad and unfortunate. Gotta sign a contract or legal document, you have to sign and print your name. So guess this generation of kids are just supposed to figure it out on their own. When I had to write essays, cursive was mandatory. You would get a 0 if it was in print.

My mom told me I shouldn't stand in front of a microwave while it's being used for two reasons, it could always malfunction and burst open and possible radiation or something lol I don't know if I believed her but respected her enough to not do it :)
There is some truth to that, as in microwaves can leak through the seaks on the door. It's why leak detection exists. But that's only applicable on older models that have wear and tear, as the hinge and seal deteriorate. So, generally microwave leaks will happen over time, but if you stand a little distance away, say 3 feet tops, the radiation will dissipate, as the wavelength is too weak to travel. The more you know 😇
Thanks for the addition of the addiction part at the end. Substance abuse has been a problem for me, some misconseptions can be pretty hurtful sometimes. You presented the subject like any other you guys do, really entertaining but also really sensitive and factual.
Addiction is a mental illness, and all mental illness needs less stigmatization. All of us have flaws and problems and we should be as understanding and caring as is practical with each other. Calm consideration and empathy go a long way. That being said, lots of addiction IS a choice because if you CHOOSE to put an addictive substance into you, you're choosing the (risk of) addiction. You can't choose your body's reaction to the substance, but you can (hopefully) choose whether it goes inside you in the first place. With drugs like acute pain relievers, it can be a profound and difficult choice to make. We all have different tolerances to pain and medicines, so there's no easy answer for everyone.
The hair myth likely comes from the fact that people start shaving before they complete puberty, and we naturally start to grow more hair during that period.
I've never heard that saying that shaving your beard or any hair anywhere makes it grow thicker and darker. What I always heard was, that if you shave, you'll grow more hair
I would like to see Infographics cover the myth of "If you can't smell, you can't taste." as I have lost my sense of smell due to a sinus infection when I was 13 and I never lost my sense of taste. Now that COVID 19 has caused more people to lose their sense of smell other people without smell also tell me that they can also taste.
Smell and Taste are separate things: taste is from the tongue, where the gross essence of food is interpreted (e.g. sweet/salty/bitter/sour/umami) but that's it. Smell is a finer interpretation of the food, such as differentiating molasses from honey. Both are sweet and bitter (acidic) but your taste alone can't tell them apart. But you can smell them apart, whether they're in your body or in front of your face.

Addictions.... Some addictions ARE a choice. It was your choice to put that first cigarette in your mouth, it was your choice to put that first needle in your arm, it was your choice to snort that first line.... Getting hurt was not a choice, getting addicted to the painkillers wasn't a choice.... If you can't see the difference, then you are part of the problem!!
Only part of the video I had issue with, genetics don't make you fall off your bike into a needle, then just BAM robbing people for drugs. Personal chioces determine ones own life.
I used to believe i was just built different because my friend had a pool and we would always have a food break and everyone but me and a couple others would wanna wait because they didn't wanna get cramps, all of us that would jump into the pool right after eating thought everyone else was just weak
The shaving thing. I went through Navy Bootcamp. We had a guy in my company who had a "babyface". The Company Comander still made him shave every morning. By the end of the 8 weeks, he had to shave because he visibly had a beard & mustache coming in. He started showing signs of a "5o'clock" shadow.

Ummmm… getting addicted at some point MUST be a choice. If you choose to take drugs or to drink that first you are risking addiction. Never take drugs? Never drink? Never get addicted. There are very few cases where those choices are outside of someone’s control. Pandering to the idea that addicts are victims only makes the problem worse.

LOL. In a show about myth-busting, the cold was incomplete. People get sick in the winter is not that complicated. People close up windows. Less fresh air, more pathogens in that air. Also, people associate the runny nose of temperature changes with the running nose of being sick.
Whatever the case with our heads, I *cannot* have my hair down in warm weather. If it's not pinned up, I'm suffering. And getting it off the back of my neck is the only way to ameliorate it.

While the song one may be true, I will say that the ability to taste spiciness is limited by location on the tongue. Our Anatomy teacher demonstrated this. He had a student to close their eyes and dry their tongue out with a paper towel to prevent saliva transferring the flavor. He then applied a generous portion of hot sauce to the back of the tongue with no reaction. Then a sizable portion to the middle of the tongue with no reaction. Then just a drop or two on the tip. The student immediately recoiled and closed their mouth only to at that point taste all of the hot sauce that have been previously put on the tongue when they close their mouth and allowed the saliva to wet the tongue again
I don't swim after eating not because of the cramps, but because of the risk of throwing up. You wouldn't eat dinner and then go do backflips right after, would you?

Addiction is a disease, NOT a choice! It's outrageous that people still think that addicts/alcoholics just need a little more willpower to stop. It's not a moral failing either.
Why’s that? Just curious, I’ve been addicted to nicotine and I’ve stopped. It’s a choice in a sense that I tell myself I won’t smoke etc but I wouldn’t consider that a disease. Gambling addiction I could see as a disease so maybe it depends what the person is addicted to or?

People can't roll their tongue, what?
I remember being taught in one of my psych classes that sleep walking occurs as a result of someone not becoming "paralyzed" during rem sleep. Seeing as how that is you dream state, and because of that they act out their dreams.
Yeah, seemed odd the video pointed to a state of sleep before REM sleep.
Just wanted to say thanks for everything you do!
I was told people who sleepwalked could get violent if you wake them up. I never heard of the death part.
The tongue myth was the only myth out of these that I actually believed at some point in my life but none of the myths were something that I believe right now.
8:23 I actually need to be in the cold to not get sick. I can’t regulate my body temperature as well as other people but I also can’t tolerate heat. Even a space heater makes me sick. I need to be in the cold with access to blankets so I can control how much warmth is on my body. Summer is scary for me. I’ll be fine in the heat temporarily but longer exposure will make me sick and make my skin will itch and sting like hundreds of bug bites.
I'm guessing your tpyical body temperature is higher than normal?
@@hoon-kay4840 I’m not sure if it’s higher or lower. I was 11 when I saw a doctor and they confirmed I can’t regular my body temperature like other people. I have it written down in my medical ID though. I rarely remember most of medical information details tbh.
So it's as if you're cold blooded?

Ye i taught myself lucid dreaming when I was like three and then forgot how and I nobody believes me😭
Myth #37: jealousy and envy are the same thing.
FALSE
envy: wanting something someone else already has for yourself (typically at the exclusion of others)
jealousy: fear or feeling of losing something you have to someone else

Yup! Curling tongue I was taught about in 9th grade. I remember because we had one person who couldn’t. Good to clear that up.
I had a friend who was “double jointed” or extremely flexible in his elbows, shoulders, and knees. He could bend them almost completely in the opposite direction and it made him a really good goalie in hockey and soccer. He could intercept everything by contorting himself.
I would LOVE to see a cycling video. "Benefits of Cycling" "What happens when you cycle every day for a month" Something like that. LOVE the channel By the way. Been here FOREVER
The more you know 😇
My mom taught me that too!

I really believe that if addiction was less stigmatized I would be in a much better place in my life.
Your voice, and always coming up with the amazing information you share.....is just perfection.

Misinformation indeed one of the biggest mental dilemmas in life; it's simple yet so self-destructive.

Wow!!! Can’t believe how many myths I’ve believed all these years.
@khronosfateless I can taste, I can't explain how but I can still taste food in every bite since.

I didn't think the "double" in double-jointed meant more joints, but more directions the given joints can bend in, which, it kind of is...

Your teacher sounds fun
I was told 90% of these myths by my stepmother when I was a kid and I believed all of them.
For me an unsettling amount was from primary school
I don't swim after eating not because of the cramps, but because of the risk of throwing up.
You wouldn't eat dinner and then go do backflips right after, would you?
After the CDC has been screaming one thing for almost 2 years and then having to pull a 180, my faith in official proclamations is quite low. "Trust the science" and "don't question the science" (although that's actually how you do science) and then "oops".
I do not agree with the vaccine part since both my father and I would always get the flu immediately after getting the flu vaccine from the military.
If you want to see an awesome movie code, watch ET. Stephen Spielberg wanted the scene to be accurate and realistic so he brought in real doctors and nurses from UCLA.
Am not sure about the gum part, I once accidentally swallowed gum and had to force myself to vomit it and when it came out it was almost like paste.
Addiction is a disease, NOT a choice! It's outrageous that people still think that addicts/alcoholics just need a little more willpower to stop. It's not a moral failing either.
*For business related things and strategy Dm us here*
Why’s that? Just curious, I’ve been addicted to nicotine and I’ve stopped. It’s a choice in a sense that I tell myself I won’t smoke etc but I wouldn’t consider that a disease. Gambling addiction I could see as a disease so maybe it depends what the person is addicted to or?
@@CallMeMistaPepe Dude its literally the same you have to decide you WANT to stop. That's what you did, so you stopped. Some people can become physically dependent on drugs like benzodiazepines and opiates/opioids. That REALLY makes it hard for you to WANT to stop. But its ultimately up to you
@@CallMeMistaPepe The AMA classifies addiction as a disease. There are mechanisms in the brain that are off kilter. The prefrontal cortex of an addict is damaged and does not work as it should. That's the part of our brain that controls your willpower.
