That Pontiac looks to be very complete. Those have so many trim pieces and lettering, all of which appears to be there. Sure it will probably cost more to restore than it's value, but that's often the case. If that was how every old car's fate was decided, a heck of a lot more would be in scrap yards.

That is what I was going to say. It's very possible that it only has 22,000 original miles. My fiancé's grandfather's 1997 GMC truck only had 28,000 original miles on it until she let her youngest son start driving it back in 2019. Of course he has torn the shit out of it and it now has about 75,000 miles on it.

Very interesting - as usual... Gotta love these old farm collections. I drove a 1958 Pontiac Starchief for a few months back in 1968. It had had an unfortunate encounter with a large tree directly head-on. It had pushed the front back just enough to make it look cross-eyed. Still ran strong. Those 370 cubic-inch V-8s were strong. That would be a great 1950s cruiser for somebody who loved to work on old cars... I would love to have a shot at the 1936 Chevy truck, or the early Nash. Either would make a fantastic cruiser... Keep up the good work, you are really good at it...

That truck was a very early production vehicle (May 1988). The cluster gears were notoriously weak, so it is almost certainly broken. Take a look at the brake pedal too. I did notice on sale day the dates on the tires were all in the 2000s, so it was at least the second, if not third, set of tires on it. The family said that the transmission was slipping in overdrive, a problem that commonly starts around the 150k to 200k mile range

Because once upon a time they weren't worth anything, after just a few years you could pick up one of these cars for $50. So lets say its 1972, you could get a 40s or 50s car for absolutely nothing because nobody wanted them, they wanted the newest sleekest car. The idea of "classics" hadn't really come around yet

I wonder why they abandon their properties with everything inside. Was it an elderly person who passed away and did they have no one to leave everything to?

      Correct.
In some cases there is a grown kid or grandkid who will move and take it over, but for this particular farm, the heirs were all established in their lives other places and just liquidated everything
