Here is a little snippet from Rob McLaren's recital this year. It was a very "old timey" theme so it explains why he doesn't look like he fits the group. We were really the ones who don't fit his theme! This is Rob's arrangement!
check out his channel at : / robmclrn
Soprano: Meg Contini
Alto: Mjaa Danielson
Tenor: Danny Fong
Bass: Rob McLaren
That soprano's voice is just haunting. Soooo beautiful.
Wow, I'd never had goosebumps listening to this song ^^
Everyone knows it in France, it's like one of the very first songs you learn as a kid :)
Gorgeous performance !
Aaaaah ! Une chanson en français ! Ça fait plaisir !
J'aime beaucoup votre accent ! I've a french accent when I speak English, so it's OK ! Haha :)
Très beau. Félicitations.
This is, like, the definition of perfection. The balance is superb, your French was stellar, and you were all PERFECTLY in tune. Just pure beauty. Great job you four!
This tugged some strings in my heart. What an amazing rendition.
superbe interprétation , bravo
One of those songs that leaves the hairs on the back of your neck stand to attention... Truly beautiful...and executed in harmonious glory.
Beautiful! Lovely harmonies!!
I keep coming back to this song over and over again. My only wish is that I could see the arrangement Rob did. I don't speak a lick of French, but I would give it my best shot just to get an ounce of what you gave us here.
It's 2018 and this is as lovely as ever.
Always a joy to come back to this
I love that tenor note at the end of 2:52 - very rich and vibrant.
Such a beautiful piece.
Thanks Lauren. We're pretty happy with the way it turned out. We only had a couple rehearsals.. which is why I'm still failing to sightread French off of the sheet music. I checked out your album about your new place.. very exciting! All the best :)
Awesome! Loved this!
Congratulations!!!
Amazing!!!!
Greetings from Brasil
sooo beautiful
Really lovely!
Meg's french is tres bien! Lovely voices - one and all.
Danny Fong, this is amazing. And I miss you.
This is in Canada! My French is atrocious, but the other three singers' French is.. tres bien? They cover me up very well though :)
Amazing
Beautiful arrangement, and beautiful ensemble! And about your description regarding the outfits... the girls looks lovely in their dresses, and Rob looks dapper in the vest. But Dan, plaid shirt? :-)
À la claire fontaine,
M'en allant promener
J'ai trouvé l'eau si belle
Que je m'y suis baigné
Refrain :
Il y a longtemps que je t'aime
Jamais je ne t'oublierai
Sous les feuilles d'un chêne,
Je me suis fait sécher
Sur la plus haute branche,
Un rossignol chantait
Refrain
Chante rossignol, chante,
Toi qui as le cœur gai
Tu as le cœur à rire,
Moi je l'ai à pleurer
Refrain
J'ai perdu mon amie,
Sans l'avoir mérité
Pour un bouquet de roses,
Que je lui refusai.
Refrain
Je voudrais que la rose,
Fût encore au rosier
Et que ma douce amie
Fût encore à m'aimer.*
Refrain
magnifique , continuez !
Don't worry I got them covered by playing this over and over again.
Just imagine les voyageurs paddling along the rivers and great lakes singing this. It would have been much more boisterous I think.
Yeah, Rob heard it that way growing up and even though he knew it was wrong he decided to do it the way he remembered (even though it doesn't make sense. There's a couple other instances that he knew about too.. but I"ll leave that discussion up to him to explain)
Amazing singing so calm😊
is dat a voice crack @ 2:39-2:41?
Superbe ! Superbe ! Superbe !
Yeah, Rob and I were going for the "look as different from each other as possible" scheme.
Merci!😘
Not stupid at all. I didn't expect to be singing in French after my collab with Trudbol in a looong time.. but surprise!
❤
I've said it before and I'll say it again: your French pronunciation is really excellent, particularly for a native English speaker. I could hardly tell you were from America. You should definitely give it another go. :)
Wait, they are American🤯? I'm from a French speaking country, but these guys speak better than most of my folks
Très beau !
that bass is TOP NOTCH!
"Lui a longtemps que je t'aime", the PCCB do the mistake as well, even though they're french.. weird.
You make a great version of this :-)
Emmanuel explique Bitcoin Not a mistake! Here’s something you’ll find interesting: I’m French Canadian and I learned this song in the early 1950’s. My parents sang it to me, everybody in my family knew it, and it was always pronounced “lui a” instead of “il y a”. I eventually read the lyric in more than one folksong book and was intrigued to realize it was actually written that way: “Lui a longtemps que je t’aime”. It turned out it was a holdover from Old French, most probably pre-1760, which is the year the English conquered French Canada, and thus the year after which the French language evolved in Canada independently from its evolution in France.
Totally.
I feel like this should be sung at Christmas :-) It's very heart-warming...
It is very sad though, it is about loss
Très belle votre version!
perfect balance!
@daniscool99 You have recent activity, but no videos for a month. :(
So I've watched your videos for a while, simply because you kinda blow me away with your singing. Haha, but I won't flatter you with compliments you probably here all the time. My real question is, did you move to France, or is this in America? I have no idea about anything about you, I'm just curious. xD
excellent! is this an aria? a Christmas song? great blending! wat is the name if the Choir? =)
XVIIIth traditional love song, original text may be XVth.
That was very good :D
Thanks 😘
Reminds me of The Anita Kerr Singers with a bit of Puerling. Nice. :-)
Just to let you know we can not pronounce a "Z" sound between "plus" and "haute" (branche).
Very nice...
I learned that as a kid in school...I was born and raised in France...many of the fur traders ...way back...knew that song.
If you ever get the chance, there was a fantastic folk singer in the 60's/70's that did a version of this. Hunt out Bonnie Dobson. I think her version will change the way you do yours.
C'pas horrible. :) Bon travail.
Oh haha. I had no idea. I hope you don't think I'm too stupid. :P Anyways, you sounded great :D
Hey, this is actually a good performance.
Ahaha I saw this comment from my phone and was actually slightly offended until I realized it was from you.
The painted veil
777th like!! The perfect number in the Bible three times
Sounds like they have an English accent, but not bad.
Merci❤

" Lui à longtemps que je t'aime" ? Great song, well done, despite this funny mistake ^^. Greetings from France.
Oh and it's " il y à..." ^^.
Quentin Akermann 😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇
I feel like the only one who found this song through the Shadowhunter books

Gg good pronunciation, i don't know what version of the text you have take but
"il y a lontemps que je t'aime" you say lui
"sous les feuilles d'un chêne" you say "de"
"sur la plus haute branche" you had granted "sous" and "haute" but you should not do that
"pour un bouquet de roses" you say "le" and "un"
sinon bonne continuation
Tu me manques tellement, l'argent Castalie.
It's times like this I wish my French teacher had been better at his job... I hear the word for forgetting, but the rest is all just pretty nonsense
It's the teachers fault eh? 😜
My French really s.... .
A bientot!
