      So I have given it some thoughts, let’s say that a PlayStation compatible version going to have the same spec’s. Is this “entry” level DD the perfect upgrade from a g29, T150, T300 ? And for the CSL elite more a replacement? I think Fanatec has made a great step in technology, the question will be, can the grow and handle the demand? I guess the biggest downside from Fanatec is that you can’t buy it in a store and have it within 24 hours delivered after a purchase.

    As a casual sim racer I am not sure I would have ever spent over $1000 U.S.. for a DD wheelbase but already being in the Fanatec Ecosystem with a CSL wheelbase the 8nm CSL DD for under $500 total upgrade cost to enter the DD arena was too good a deal to pass up.
    Those already in the Fanatec eco system with previous non DD wheelbases will really be the ones that get a fantastic upgrade for minimal additional outlay.
    I think Fanatec made a smart move producing a DD wheelbase priced more for the average gamer and at a price point that the masses will find it an affordable quality option.
    Being in the wave 1 preorder have already been notified my order has been moved to in warehouse processing so should be here soon.

    The issue I have is the cost of the power brick, I cancelled my order as I expect such device to be £49 at most. I currently have the CSW V2.5 and I don't think it's much of an upgrade. I will wait for the CSW DD.

    • @Vyrophyl
      @Vyrophyl 2 роки тому

      I honestly think it's fair, because I have the assumption, that the standard DD is a loss leader, meant to pull more people in the Fanatec ecosystem, so you actally get a really good bang for your buck and after that, they recoup some losses with the boost kit, which is still really good from a price to performance ratio. The thing that is offputting is just how obvious it is, that a simple power block shouldn't cost 150$.

    The new csl DD is really impressive. I do think it feels at least as good as my DD1. It also has more power than I need. I was happy with the DD1 for 2 years now.
    Both of my fanatec bases have very little flex in the QR. I did add a Z ring but only to make wheels easier to remove. The ring did take the minor flex out of the QR tho.
    I'd say the new DD has enough power for most people. I'm running about 50-60% on the base in and around 6-7 in iracing and it's more powerful than the csw v2.5 that is no slouch. The boost pack is a must tho. Another thing, I've seen people are making their own boost pack for $20-60 or so. I've seen 1 that was higher quality than the fanatec boost pack and it's simple to do, saved him $100

    So a dd1 run at 40% gain which equals to 8nm peak works exactly the same way a csl dd does? If that is the case I might go for the csl dd. Since most people would run it around 50% anyway

  • @Cameron-Cc

    I see one central problem ...
    I own a Simucube 2 Pro for about a year now. During that year of use I found my sweet spot of force/torque, feeling great and realistic, also approved by a semi-professional driver: 12 Nm plus a little extra for covering peak forces, resulting in about 15 Nm overall. That's the torque setting creating that "direct drive smile" every time I use the hardware. So that's my lower limit.
    But 5 or 8 Nm of the Fanatec CSL DD don't even come close to this point.
    So there might be some precision - but there won't be that "direct drive smile".

    • @XavierGoncalves89
      @XavierGoncalves89 3 роки тому

      I run mine at max (25nm) and then adjust the gain/force in game, what's the difference between that and running 12nm all the time?

    • @JoernR
      @JoernR 3 роки тому +1

      @@XavierGoncalves89 -As far as I understood/experienced: Difference is that if you set a maximum overall force in the True Drive software, there won't be any stronger forces breaking through in any case. I use lower overall settings if other persons - like my nephews - are playing and I don't want them to get hurt. Setting 25 Nm in True Drive removes that upper limit, so it all depends on the software settings, of which you often don't know too exactly what they do. So there might be sudden stronger forces in extreme situations, like crashes.
      On the other hand, limiting the forces via True Drive may lead to stronger forces in the game getting capped, e. g. if multiple forces happen at once, adding to each other - like steering, mass effects and track ripple. That's causing that Simucube beep, telling you "Hey! Game told me to render forces exceeding the set limits, which I don't do while capped to 12 Nm!" - Which wouldn't happen if you didn't lower the limit in True Drive.
      So it both has pros and cons, like usual. ;)
      If you like to have that "safety limit" preventing unexpected forces, you can set the limit in True Drive - which I prefer because I've got some quite delicate wrists and had previous thumb injuries.
      But there's also just nothing wrong with using the SC2 at max force settings in TD and adjusting the game settings. In fact, that's what most "professional" gamers seem to prefer. :)

    Simple question: Is the "aged" 918 RSR steering wheel a good choice to have with the CSL DD (8nm Boost Kit... of course)? Lighter than the BMW M3 GT2 this sounds a pretty top choice (the 911GT3 a bit too expensive when purchasing all products together - at one moment have to say stop). I already have the V3 pedals with a T300 and Aiologs sequential shifter and handbrake (excellent products by the way, built like a tank). Following the launch of CSL DD, I decided to migrate to full Fanatec eco-system including the SQ V1.5 to have a full manual shifter. As I don't want one of these flat F1 steering wheel (I love classic cars which have real circular wheel - you know like the first guy who invented the wheel approx 5500 years ago. Like him I'm still at this prehistoric age even with my real car...) hence my choice for the 918 RSR after beeing tempted by the cheaper BMW GT2. Any advice or comment welcome.

      @@iamzuesthisisthetruth8864 Too late :) I bought the 918 last year and no regret. It is a very nice wheel even if maybe slightly too expensive for its age. Perfect for my needs and I still don't want one of these F1 rectangular shape wheel having just 2 side handles. Grrrrr.... Maybe I'm old fashonned.
      There is now a Fanatec black leather version, exactly same wheel as the 918 with magnetic shift paddles added (these are not on the 918), not the porsches logo on the wheel (except for the look and ego, is this really vital) and at 100 quids less than the brown leather 918 RSR. Highly advisable

    I don't think this is affordable when you have to buy all the parts together buy this separate it's far from being affordable it's a trick to make you buy their products not great. Why don't they do a whole package where everything's and then let's see if it's affordable pedals steering wheel unit manual gearbox and it's not suitable to be mounted on a desk how can you say this is affordable ?

    • @randomcallsign

      Because the other option is to pay extra 1000, while this is at the price of the other csl. I don't understand why this wheel is getting that criticism when it's cheaper than the csl elite and csw and the other wheels didn't.

    • @ghastous
      @ghastous 3 роки тому

      @@randomcallsign Looking on there slow ass website there is no other csl or csw wheel bases to buy now and only there OP DD. Yes ok its "cheap" to get a wheel base but the extras are a complete rip off and is no a viable option at all for a normal working class person this is only for Elite rich ppl and streamers its that simple.

      Well that's because the csl dd substituted the csl at the same price and the csw at lower price.

      @@DickVanPaiton Why not, not like a rim is an expensive thing to produce. 100% the margins are pretty good on CSL DD, and on rims it is probably extreme. As it is now the csl is not a complete product, and if they simply added a Rim they would for sure sell even higher volumes.

      @@Pillokun CSL DD has pretty much no margin at all I am very sure. Only the Bundle with the Boost Kit might have an acceptable margin but the regular 5Nm version for sure is way underpriced to be competetive with almost no margin.
      Would make zero Sense to include a Wheel (which at least costs 100€) on top, that would only raise the price (as it's impossible to sell the Base WITH a Wheel for 350 if that's what you are looking for)
