any time they are together they do this... every interview. Consider the fact they only been together 60 years. how many marriages do you know that last that long?
The managers' names, if you're curious... 1) Bill Utley (of Reb Foster Associates) 2) Dave Krambeck 3) Martin Philips Management 4) Rick Soderlind....Rosalie Morton is the lawyer 5) Charlie Galvin 6) Campbell Silver Cosby Corporation 7) Jeff Wald, Ron Deblasio 8) Bill Utley (of Reb Foster Associates)
I'd like to point out that Flo and Eddie do this routine now in music and art schools all across the nation. They have been advocates for artists learning how to obtain their rights to their own music. These dudes are freaking heroes. They have launched and won lawsuits against BIG RADIO like sirus and others... Lets hope they continue and go after the new streaming bastards that have destroyed all monetary hope for music artists.
There was a group called the Badfinger, and they had a similar experience. Management said they were providing for them, and after years of hard work, the group was fleeced and ended up broke. In their case, the story is especially tragic, as it led to two suicides. Flo and Eddie at least are alive!
And remember kids, this is how broke you are WHEN YOU MAKE IT. Reminds me of the interview with Left Eye from TLC (rip) when she talks about being flat broke when they had the #1 song in America. Thank God the record industry is dying the slow, agonizing, undignified death it so sorely deserves.
Now all you have to do is disclose who these thieves are and the whole lawsuit thing can start over. Way to go guys. Good video. Davey Jones, Mickey Dolenz, Peter Tork have a similar story with Colgems.
“The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.” That quote has been attributed to Hunter Thompson, but I just read that he never said it.
Wow. What a terrible story. But it is great that you kept your sense of humor surrounding it. I am sure it was not funny when going through that turmoil. Great sets of lessons for everyone. Thank you for sharing Thank you
at 1:12 Eddie says, He (manager #2) gave us THAT money without explaining what money, the amount, if it was an advance or what.... can anyone pls clarify?
:53 we paid manager #1 $50, 0000 of OUR MONEY; should he not he have said we paid manager #1 $50,000 from the money ($250,000)we BORROWED from the record company?
And now do we all wonder why the music industry is screwed, they dish what they want and we take it like it or not...everyone trying to make a buck of someone, why can't music be free ?!?! In a perfect world maybe, but I understand costs for equipment rental, venue fees.blah blah blah. If I can bring good music to get people moving, life would be better without those damn types of managers!
@@Capcoor Sadly, the artists never get enough unless they have good management that they can trust and rely on. Make good music, and find good management anything is possible, it's just the filtering that is hard for some, they are a classic example of picking the wrong guy time after time.
Well, U should know better as U come from a country where everything is borrrowed, or got by creditcard, etc...american express...etc...when U borrow (in this case money) something and it's in your possession it's yours...remember the cars, houses, etc? Well everything is borrowed in the US...and we in Europe suffer from the crisis it caused...
If these guys had been smarter about their business, they wouldn't have had to make the disastrous decision to sue De La Soul for Transmitting Live from Mars. Cheap move fellas, really lame of you.
They finish each other's sentences like an old married couple. They're hilarious!

Also, they sang on "Billy the Mountain", my favorite Zappa/Flo & Eddie song EVER
OMG, you poor guys, I had no idea-- I was just a little screaming, clueless girl loving you and your music.
"So you wanna be a rock n' roll star..." A cautionary tale from two funny and talented men.
Look at that Peanuts sweater!
All I can say is that I love the story. "So Happy Together" will be the name of the Broadway musical tribute I will write for these guys!!
"wife, money, mexico... down here..." lmao... this is so fun lol ... "manager one is very popular now... he got famous on our money"

It’s just Badfinger. But good info
I really love these guys...great musicians, vocaiists & so damn funny...
Best routine I've seen since "Who's On First?"
Sad how many folks back then would be hearing their own hit on the radio and couldn't make rent
That's why these guys are still funny...they tell the truth...thanksb
The tommy james book i read painting similar picture.BTW I LOVE THE TURTLES & seen them with ZAPPA FLO& EDDIE.
I'm so loving these guys!
I grew up in Nashville. I have seen this sort of horror treatment of artists for decades. The industry needs a shakeup.
And remember kids, this is how broke you are WHEN YOU MAKE IT.

the end is the best
Why does Eddie age five years for every year that Flo ages? They should explain the workings of THAT phenomena on the white board.
Best vid**** Love

Nah, that's definitely HST. However, he might have been saying it about politics :)
Where is Frank Zappa in this???
@mitch26 No, it was Bill Uttley, I believe.
How long ago was this? It's awesome though..
I want to know who manager number 6 is. The BIG star.
Wow. What a terrible story. But it is great that you kept your sense of humor surrounding it.

so which number is zappa?
This is why Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley are smart. They didn't want to get screwed up the ass like so many other rock musicians.
KnightOwl2006 So what did they do differently?
geeaz man? thats sad. great great singers too. Call Any Vegitable Forever!

@LuneyTune72 Frank had his own problems with WMG. Luckily he was able to produce records independently.
@friedpisano i think it's number 8 'cause they say: "...we become his new group..."
"They had dogs..." ?
Anyone know if manager #1 was Herb Cohen? He sued everyone.....
Eddie is related to Herb (his cousin or something), so I doubt that
Yep!
The young kids who want to be stars have no idea- This should be seen by all who even think they want to get into the biz-
These guy are so damn funny...:-)))
Happy Together.....NOT!
@pierrelivernois I know you are, but what am I?

@chuckdee121 "The Badfinger"
I laughed until I stopped.
The Word 'Hate' features Regularly, just a thought but that might have been a Factor?
...ruins our career ... as if we needed...help.

Why do you call suing De La Soul a "disastrous decision"? Disastrous for who?
