    This is wonderful- thank you! Just starting out - you've really broken it down. I act as Artist Manager for my band - I do everything! Will be nice to explain to the rest of the band that there are different areas that people can take on - i've been finding it hard to list our responsibilities and delegate. SO useful, thanks! It depends...if you want to work with independent artists start working for local musicians or musician friends. You never know one of them just might make it big one day! Make sure to get your 10-15% though! If you want to work with a big management company, I suggest internships. I interned at management company and work hard. I know if that company I interned with would have hired me if they had a job when I was looking :)

    You roles of an artist manager are so dead on. There have been a few artist managers that I have met that didn't answer phone calls for WEEKS. haha! Sad to say, the artist is no longer active.

    Nice idea. You might consider updating. And featuring real live professionals in your videos to add some credibility. But, as an agent/manager/artist for a very long time, I think it's a very good effort!

  • @ModCityMag
    @ModCityMag  11 років тому +1

    Hi Amanda, That is a good question! Those who want to be a day to day manager should find solid well known management companies such as Red Light Management. There you can start as an admin assistant and work your way up. As you work there you will make contacts with labels,etc so if you end up going on your own you will have some great contacts and have built your name up in the industry.

    Hi there. Appreciate the upload. I've gone from event organizer to agent to artist manager as well as radio MC. I love what I do but there are a lot of challenges. I've done these things only in last couple of years so I'm a freshy in the artist management field however learn something new every day. What advice or resources can you recommend to me for how best to combine the tour manager, day to day and business manager into one role efficiently? Or should we look into hiring? Another question is what is the best way to source reliable promoters in other cities in likes of Europe or US. All advice and resources appreciated. Keep up the good helpful work.

    As a budding songwriter (and that's all I want to be), if I write the lyrics and produce the music for a song. I own the copyright. As the copyright owner I am also the music publisher. Now, I want to make money off of my intellectual property (or song). In reference to record labels how does it work? Do I pitch my song to them and then LICENSE my song to them (if they decide that they want to make a master recording of my song for/with one of their artists), or do I simply SELL my (copy)right of the song outright to the record label?

    Hey I have a handful of friends that are producers that are growing everyday in terms of followers and have huge potential. Where do I start coming from nothing in terms of experience wit managing. They kind of already self promote themselves so all I could see myself doing for them is getting them shows to play but I still don't know how I'd go about that.

    Does a manager ever have any business doing what an engineer does? Mine is currently badgering me for my raw files so he can manipulate them, but I have my own engineer of 7 years. I find it unnerving how he won’t stop asking after I’ve respectfully declined. Then he tells me I’m forming an unworkable relationship if I don’t provide him that.
    It’s all really upsetting bc I want to retain full control of my artistic matters like it says in our contract, but I’m being made to feel like I’m hard to deal with. Anyone out there, Am I tripping or is he?
