    This is one way to check your Valve and another thing that you need to do is remove the 3 bolts on top of the valve and with your finger, check for free movement of the solenoid plunger.

    • @rronmar
      @rronmar 3 роки тому +1

      @@bryancarballo1087 with the pressure sensor wire disconnected there is no power to the switch anyway so it would make no difference. Ohm meters measure continuity/resistance by sending power thru the device being tested. If the device is still wired into the circuit, any power on the circuit will confuse the test meter, so generally you want all power off for any resistance/continuity testing...

    Hi guys, I kept getting a CEL with P1259 on 2000 Honda Accord 2.3L Vtec engine. If you've reviewed about a half dozen youtube vids, by now you know to first check oil to see if very low or dirty, which will plug the screen to the Vtec solenoid or cause no/low oil pressure through the Vtec oil pressure sensor on the same integrated part. The OP sensor on the side and Vtec solenoid on top WORK TOGETHER to make Vtec work. I replaced BOTH and did a complete oil change (with correct grade oil as shown on the oil add cap on the valve cover), since I had just bought the car and wasn't sure what grade oil was in there. I have to smog it for CA, since I just bought it.
    But, the CEL P1259 still came back on (after I cleared it with my OBD2 scanner) about 15 miles later. Then I realized the problem was probably wiring. One vid shows how to test the solenoid, by connecting to 12V positive with a jumper cable, if you hear a "click", it's working (at least the plunger is opening, but that doesn't mean the screen on the gasket isn't clogged). But I had just replaced it with a new one, so it was wiring. Then I found this vid on testing OP sensor and Vtec sensor TOGETHER by CONNECTING THEM IN SERIES.
    The short story is, cut the negative wire on the OP sensor (the blue wire) and connect it to the single positive wire to the Vtec sensor. The Vtec sensor has only one wire because it's grounded to the integrated part, therefore, the engine. Why Honda had both a positive and neg lead on the OP sensor, I don't know, but I'm sure glad they did. When I did that, it "forced" the two sensors to work together, and no more bogging down at 4000 rpm, now it doesn't hesitate to go to 5000 rpm at all. It's fixed. Here's the vid:

    When you took the reading on the oil pressure switch, you had continuity. If the switch was open or no continuity, the meter would show 0L like it did when you turned it on. It should read 0.0 or really close to it when the car is off.

    Hey my friend on taking off the V-Tec solenoid. You can make your own tool by getting a 10mm socket and welding it to an open end wrench at the top of the 1/4 in. drive socket.It works perfectly. I took the 2 bolts on side off using it. OK I am having trouble with my 2000 accord. I replaced my solenoid and it still shows a P1259. I'm gonna try checking the wires with your video. Car run great but it's the check engine light I want off.

I have a 2000 accord 2.3L with the P1259 code, I have continuity as well as 12V at the connector and the solenoid itself appears to be new (I just bought the car so I’m not sure but it’s very shiny!) it has 105,000 miles on it and I just changed the oil too, I disconnected the battery but the code returned. 1 of the reasons is low oír or maybe the oil viscosity is not the right one, another thing is connection to the PCM

    This video was a lot of help. My switch certainly measured 0 Ohms. I replaced it - now the P1259 code comes up as soon as I start idling the car. Anything I can check with the single-wire connector to the solenoid? I was only getting the P1259 code after getting past 3k RPMs previously, now it is coming on as soon as I start the car. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Even if I have to replace the entire assembly, that is fine - but I want to know WHY I had to replace it. :) Thanks!

      @@BulletSolano Thanks for the quick reply! To clarify, I already performed a flush and then an oil change (with filter) using 5w-30. I just changed the head gasket, water pump and timing belt a few weeks prior and did an oil change then too. Today, whilst changing the switch, I pulled the VTEC assembly off, but there was nothing built-up in the chambers or clogging the screen. I re-assembled it (lubing all moving parts with Marvel Mystery Oil), made sure the plunger moved up and down freely, and re-assembled everything.
      I realized that I did not transfer the gasket over from the old oil pressure switch to the new one. So, I was really hoping that this was all that it was and that it was just losing pressure without the gasket and sending the code. However, after fixing it all the code still jumps on immediately.
      Like I said, the light now turns on at idle where it did not previously. I'm leaning more towards electrical/short. I'm just not sure how to test the solenoid itself on the single wire. The only other thing I can think is ECM, but I would hope that I would see more than one system affected.
      Any other ideas you might be able to throw at me are greatly appreciated. I'm a seasoned mechanic - I just do not know much about these specialized systems... or Honda in general. lol Working on this for a colleague.
      Again, thank you!

    You said that you had no continuity, but your dvm says 0.00 which means that it DOES have continuity. Which are you looking for, continuity or no continuity? If there was no continuity you'd have an infinite reading. Are you confusing the terms resistance and continuity? If you're looking for a value on your dvm, that would be a reading of resistance, not continuity..

      Hi I think I get the terms confused but I was looking for continuity which I know I have because the valve is working just fine, thanks for that

      @@BulletSolano I see what you're saying, I was just confused because you said you had no continuity when the pressure switch showed continuity. Not trying to bust your balls because you used the wrong term, just clarifying. Obviously I've got a p1259 problem or I wouldn't have found the video in the first place, so I'm not trying to act like I know all.. lol
