James’ dad was dying from stage 4 kidney disease . He only had one kidney as he had previously donated one . He only had a short time to live as a donor could not be found. This is his dad in this video and was the first time his dad heard the song . After the video was released a distant cousin came forward to be tested and was a match so he donated a kidney to James’ dad. His dad is doing well the last I heard. James and his dad were both military men and feelings were not always shown. James did a wonderful job on this video. His feelings about his dad were very real.

He didn't donate a kidney and it wasn't the first time he had heard the song, the story is poignant enough without perpetuating these added embellishments.

James had read him the words but he hadn't heard the song, having been a donor I've read many times, common sense here if he had 2 kidneys he wouldn't need a transplant would he...

@@Raghnaid Hi😊 I recently found this video, and read through the comments. You may know James Blunt or his family personally, but after the different information in this thread, I thought I’d just search for some information. I know that Wikipedia isn’t always 100% trustworthy, but what I found when I searched for James Blunt Monsters, and went to the information page, under Background it said: “James Blunt's father Charles, himself a kidney donor, was diagnosed with stage four chronic kidney disease.[5] Blunt wrote "Monsters" to "express his feelings about his father and his illness…”
So based on that, Charles Blunt was, in fact, a kidney donor. I don’t know for a fact one way or the other, as I haven’t heard anything said in any interviews, and I don’t know any family members personally.

It's an amazing video. 100% real and genuine. No 'Auto-Tune'. One take. James donated all the proceeds from this video to the fantastic UK charity 'Help For Heroes' who do so much brilliant work for ex-servicemen and servicewomen and their rehabilitation, dealing with their physical and emotional issues.

You don't need issues to start crying at such a moving song as this one. You would need a heart of stone not to be moved. Issues or not as the old song goes "you are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars, you have a right to be here". Every single one of you matters in this life we share.

@@TheHolyCrotch here we are again 4 months later and i am doing my periodic hunt for new reactions to this song. when i do i sometimes rewatch one or two of my fav reactions that ive already seen... and guess what? i just rewatched yours. yours is among my favs out of all the many, many reactions to this song that are out there. so for what its worth i want to repeat what i said first time: this really is amongst the best reactions there are to this. not just the emotion you showed, but the insight and the appreciation. unfortunately none of your other content is of any interest to me. i'm really not interested in k-pop.
i think the most successful reaction channels are inter-generational. someone your age reacting to 'classics' from the biggest artists that have stood the test of time. songs from 70's 80's 90's. ofc its your channel you do what you want.
anyway thanks once again for this wonderful reaction vid. its brings me a huge amount of pleasure and it helps me cope with my fathers death, which is why i watch these reactions so much.

This song has so much meaning because it not only comes genuinely from the heart but, its meaning is something everyone can relate to. Your emotions were heartfelt and genuine also. James is best known for love songs, or songs of heartache, heartbreak, though he has also made songs about his time serving as a tank commander in Kosovo, (No Bravery, for instance) which are very powerful too. James and his father were both in the military. When this was being recorded James insisted that it was done live, no editing, just raw emotion. And everyone in the room was in tears, except his father who just asked, "why is everyone crying? I'm still here. " And I've never seen anyone listen to this and come out dry eyed.

Saying the final goodbye to our dads is something we will all inevitably have to do…. How he sang this without breaking apart like I am listening to it is truly remarkable

Based on your comments on your review, I highly recommend you listen to Pentatonix, Bohemian Rhapsody (not the live version) and I'll leave the tag below. It is MIND BLOWING!! Freddie Mercury from Queen was a unique person in his own right with Bohemian Rhapsody ... but wait until you hear, see and can't believe PTX's version.
Another 1, Hallelujah (not the live version), and I'll leave that tag also. Richard Cohen was the original writer of Hallelujah, which many have recreated. The 1st Shrek movie played another rendition at the end.
One thing both songs have besides great lyrics and music, is both tags are a true PRODUCTION of Pentatonix unlike others. Pentatonix has abilities that can't be compared. Many 'reaction' artists like yourself, that have played PTX videos end up with huge audiences. We have excellent music videos with beautiful lyrics but PTX has an 'unique edge' bc it's a cohesive production all tied into one that everyone follows 😎
