      Eddie beat me to it but i was going to say the say. you have to forgive them for yourself. my dad hadnt spoken to me for 20 years. he refused every attempt i made to have some kind of relationship. then he fell very ill with his heart and was unable to take care of himself. i accepted him into my home and took care of him, with my wifes tender help. no question asked. no mention of the tension that had previously been between us. i certainly didnt make him 'jump through hoops' or demand an apology or use his predicament in any way as leverage. i was at his side when he died a few months later in the early hours of one morning. many would say he didnt deserve it, but i didnt do it because he was a good man. i did because _i'm_ a good man. even if he didnt deserve me to ease his passing as i did, i deserved it. if i had turned my back on him in his time of greatest need i would have had to live with that not him, and i know i would have never been at peace with myself.

    @HalkerVeil 2 роки тому +45

    His dad had been very sick in this video. His kidneys were on their last leg and there were no doners. So this was filmed with the whole family expecting him to pass very soon.
    But after the song was released they had a distant relative see it and they got tested for a match, long story short, he's alive today because of this song. So they've got more time.
    There's a longer story behind it with them both being military men and having to deal with the emotional side of it, but that's the gist.
    After this was filmed his father saw everyone in the studio crying and said "Stop cryin! I ain't dead yet!" lmao

    His father was terminal here, he needed a kidney transplant as his kidney was in stage 4 failure, he was on the transplant waiting list but of course someone has to die with a donation card and has to match, James and his siblings were tested and not a match.
    James and his father were high ranking officers in the British army, James a captain and his father a colonel and never show any weakness or emotion, so this video really is remarkable and heartfelt.
    After this video was released a distant cousin with the same name Charles Blount as his father, was tested and a match so he was a live donor which is so brave and wonderful
    His father is still alive.....

And means different things to different people, doesn't have to be limited to father and son. Hope you enjoyed it regardless, James opened himself up and made himself incredibly vulnerable, risky for an artist to do, esp as the press can be unkind to him. Eddie, first off, we both lost our teams. Damn Yankees and Red Sox screwed both of us lol. We can sympathize with each other lol. Finally, a real man shows his emotions. A real man doesn’t hide them. You said you don’t know how it’s going to look to us? To me, it looks a real man, that’s how it looks to me, Brother. I relate heavily to the Grandparents thing. My maternal grandparents were like my second parents to me. I lost Grandma in 2002 and Grandpa in 2007. She died December 23, 2002 right before Christmas and he died November 12, 2007 what would have been their 57th anniversary. Plus the fact that he wrote this for his ill father, who was in the video, makes it harder to hear and watch. Thanks for this, man.

    • @eddiebready23
      @eddiebready23  2 роки тому

      Hey Ryan, thanks a million for your kind words. I won't lie and say it doesn't boil my blood sometimes to see more Blue Jays fans than Mariners fans at some of our home games because it does. Lol! We were the odd teams out this year unfortunately. 😢 I do sympathize with you there bro. I guess the sadness comes mostly from the fact that I just want to see them and talk with them again. Certain songs, Movies and TV shows paint similar scenarios of our circumstances and you reminisce about how much of a brat you were and how wonderful, patient and tolerant they were. They both died 3 years apart and it flipped every upside down. Now it's our turn to chase the monsters away. It all fits.

    • @dillowman8
      @dillowman8 2 роки тому

      @@eddiebready23 you’re absolutely right. It does all fit. You mentioned our fans filling T Mobile Park. I do understand. We had 3 different home ballparks this year because of the pandemic. TD Ballpark in Dunedin, Florida (our Spring Training complex), Sahlen Field (our Triple A Buffalo Bisons home park) and FINALLY home in Toronto at the Rogers Centre. Dunedin and Buffalo were like that against us. Geographically both parks were always closer to our opponents cities, especially Dunedin. I hated hearing us getting booed and cheered against in our “home” park. Look at it from our side though, how cool it is to see our fans THAT dedicated to our team to essentially take over someone else’s ballpark like that. I always look forward to our series against each other in Seattle every year. Common ground though, Jays and Mariners will always be connected. We are expansion cousins. We both entered the league in 1977

    James and his Dad Charles are both former British Army officers who both saw active service. (James a Captain, Charles a Colonel) Charles was dying from stage 4 kidney failure at the time of this filming. Thankfully a kidney donor was eventually found for Charles. James sang this as a tribute to his Dad. For a soldier to show such raw emotion and vulnerability is very brave. This song was recorded in one take. All proceeds from this song were donated to veterans charities. So much respect for James. He does a lot for veterans charities.

    A few things you might not know about James Blunt. James Blunt refused an order to attack Russian troops when he was a British soldier in Kosovo.
