Danish logic: Restaurant date: That's far too personal and romantic! Must be done when we're in a serious relationship. Sex: Let's do it before we get too romantic!
It's not REALLY like that.. It's more.. You get to know eachother first on a more neutral/flirty level. Like say from hanging out in school, mutual friends etc. Rather than beginning the relationship, as if you are already married. :) We "hang out" rather than date.
yeah I find that weird too. sex is so casual there. it explains my interaction with this Danish girl I met before. really does. I rather get to know a person first too but sex even before the relationship wow.haha. isn't that a one night stand then or fuck buddies? I should visit Denmark hahh
+skvakagud actually I think this is more awesome. sometimes the idea of just hanging out first makes it easier to know a person. I'm like that dude Finch from person of interest. just reading a person the first time I meet them
My father was Danish....since he died when I was young, I didn't have time to question what life was like in Denmark. As I watch your videos I see the basis for his personality. He was very fair, very private but very sociable too. WHAT? Love your videos and your boyfriend is absolutely adorable!
Trust me, I'm part Danish so I've been there loads of times, and there's nothing to be afraid of! Apart from my grandma. She can be terrifying. But you most likely won't see her, so there's nothing to be worried about!
Yayyyy thanks so much for doing another video about Denmark! I'm English but I'm obsessed with Danish culture, it's my dream to one day live there. I really can't get enough of your videos about Denmark :) plus I love reading the comments in Danish as it helps me with learning it xx
that's true!when i visited it was so expensive.. a hot chocolate costed like 8 euros..and it was so cold! BUT it was so beautiful too!The nature, the buildings, everythig! the best trip i've ever had..i would totally go back again!
Sex is a very important part of a relationship and sex is also not very stigmatised in Denmark. Danish logic on sex: You don't buy a car without test driving it
Emilie Nørlund Well, I heard that the Danish males don't like that much the idea of safe sex. At least they should be ok with using condoms. You can't just randomly fuck and then run away and expect to be as new. But I hope that this is more like a superstition or a myth.
The idea/term "You don't buy a car without test driving it" is primarily/only used for when you "test drive" someone you want to be boyfriends/girlfriends with. Danes don't find it logical to enter into a relationship with someone they haven't slept with yet. And about the use of protection. I don't think men wants to wear condoms, it is just something that they should do when they are with someone new.
Emilie Nørlund I agree with this concept of "fucking in advance" before getting involved into a relationship, having the idea of only "testing" her so you can see if she's a good fit or not; And I also agree that not every man wants to wear a condom, and it wouldn't be a probl if we talk about the loved one, but it becomes a probl if you, as a man, expects to get laid in the context of 'prior sex' (that's what I don't like, actually). Then and maybe only then, man should use protection more than ever. 😉
Its because they arent religious like the US thats why id love to live in Denmark but im hispanic so i feel like id get alot of racism. Here in the US i live in a predominantly hispaic neighborhood so i dont see racism alot
This was really helpful! Just got back from Copenhagen and the advice (mainly about not being killed by bikes) was invaluable. Tak! Absolutely loved Copenhagen.
Andreea Gabriela normally it’s because it’s so dark that we try to get all the light we can... once somebody mentioned how weird white everything was in a Danish home 😂 there probably is curtains their just rolled up and hidden for the viewers not many see curtains as a decor thing
I'm moving to Denmark for studies and it sounds like I will fit in well with the culture :) I like how they don't feel like they have to please other people constantly by asking how are you, which is pretty fake here in Canada a lot of the times
+Elena Olivia Fabray I am not from Canada, I lived there for 5 years. Is there any advice you could give me beside what's said in this video? Thank you :)
Oh but we do! how are you is not a uncommon question, but its not a hello, its a question you should answer. And if you give a dane the question and wont listen interested youre very very rude. Were not saying this to all our neighbours but our close family and friends.
I love that you share all of this info about Denmark! My grandmother was from there. I miss hearing her stories. I have to say I loke your shares much more.😀
Danes like dark humor, you say? What’s the best part about dead baby jokes? They never get old. Dark humor is like food in North Korea. Not everyone gets it.
Just really quick from personal experience, if you're an American guy and want to score with Danish chicks, LEARN TO SPEAK SOME DANISH!!! Danes are magnanimous people and genuinely appreciate the effort you put in to learning their language. Beyond that, there are no tricks. If you're a cool person to them, and speak their language, you stand a good chance of enjoying yourself as Danes aren't *nearly* as sexually repressed as Americans.
Hahahaha I wish you had made this video a year ago, before I went to Denmark for the first time - would have been a great help :) Well, I agree with many things you've said, but especially with the first one: yes, Denmark is expensive as fuck! I definitely wasn't ready for that and everything was a big chock for me - 80DKK for a Burger King meal sounded insane - in Brazil we pay about half of it. But I was amazed by how organized the Danish traffic is (maybe that's only because it's a chaos in Rio). And actually I was the one who hurt people when I was biking - I caused two small accidents 😬 -, but it felt pretty safe. And I don't know, but I remember hearing people saying "tak" all the time. All - the - fucking - time. And apparently that word can mean many things besides thanks, like please, you're welcome, etc. In the beginning I was lost but after a month, I was saying tak for everything too hahah (+)
PS: I've seen some of your videos and all I can say is that you're VERY Danish! Your face, your hair color (I love it btw), your facial expressions, your sarcasm, your accent... So Danish! And please don't get me wrong, it's meant to be a compliment :) And since you asked... I would like you to talk about how to be friends with Danes. I'm going to spend a year there and I'm afraid I'll live in a cave with my boyfriend and his friends. It feels like, once you've got a friend, you've got a whole network, but getting that first friend is almost impossible! Do you have any tips? I really like your channel and wish you the best luck with it!
I love your sleeve girl! I'm going to attend CBS this summer, so thanks for the tips. Not afraid since the Dutch are quite alike, based on your video haha!
Always loved Denmark and the Danish way of thinking. Best way to spot a tourist? They're crossing the road on a red light. Respect for the roads is paramount. I was once walking down Strøget with my mother. Drunk-as-hell football fans were everywhere, rolling and swaying, singing, bumping into things. They came to a crossing and every one fell silent and sobered up. They crossed practically single file, walking a perfectly straight line and, as soon as they were across the road, they behaved drunk again. It was fantastic.
It's funny, so many people think I'm Danish because I look Danish, act Danish, can speak some Danish, have a similar mindset to the way you described Danes and have a foreign name.. but I'm British.
you know something, i went to Copenhagen in nov/2015 and to be honest i find that prices in Denmark cheaper than US, and what ever you said about Denmark its better than US 100% except the weather, YOU rock girl.
It's very true with the alcohol. I'm thirteen and I drink wine with my parents sometimes (only at big family gatherings or events like Christmas, and New Years. I'm not allowed to drink wine every day)
Kelly, you are awesome! Specially in the videos about Denmark hahaha And as I want to move to DK next year it is also nice to keep contact with the funny danish accent speaking english and getting to know the particularities of this lovely country. Greetings from Brazil!!!
Yeah, if you eat out in Denmark, you really, really hate your money. I lived out of The Admiral when I first moved there and I thought my per diem was quite generous, until I tried to afford anything on it. We ended up buying a microwave and a lot of things for sandwiches and the like, before we finalized our lease. As an American, we go out with our friends to eat. Dinner parties aren't all that common, but turns out they were a necessity as an expat, in Denmark, if you didn't want to be flat broke, all the time. Interesting fact - buying a beer out of the vending machine at work (yes, my fellow Americans...AT WORK) was cheaper than a soda. Go Denmark. :)
As we are always learning, we are a student and keeping ego aside, as a tourist, I would be humble, learning things beforehand. As a language and culture enthusiast I would love to talk in Danish. World is beautiful when we seek similarity.
Just arrived in Denmark for the first time today and I have seen about 4 Billion bikes! She was not kidding about the bikes! They must come in really handy for all the drunk kids at night time!
When I was in Denmark last summer we drove to Elsingor castle one day, and the parking meter had really weirdly worded directions. This Norwegian guy read it and told us how he thought it worked, so we listened to him. We ended up getting a $97 parking ticket...
Danish and Dutch dating culture sounds very much alike. To be honest, I always figured that was the default, although I have no clue about dating culture in other European countries.
I live in Denmark and one time i was in a bus with my best friend, and we where talking. When we had talked for a while, we realise that we are the only ones talking in the bus.. It was akward.. And it was not like we talked quitly... :P (Sorry for bad gramma)
I actually thought that the comment section would only be Danes.. that's nice actually that it isn't just us people from Denmark watching things we already know aha
My mom and I are planning our trip to Copenhagen in late Spring of 2019...After talking to a friend who spent two years there says its great place and even said things you said in this great video! But I want to know from your point of view, would it be a good trip to make? These facts really have me excited yet scared. Anymore great tips would be MUCH appreciated! Keep being awesome like you are and hope you know you make great videos!
No way will you have anything but a lovely experience when you go to Denmark. So Sarah, just come. People are nice and like foreigners and are always there to help and direct you. The majority of Danes speak English and will help and support you :-) :-)
It might sound like she is exagerating the thing about us valueing our privacy, but it's true. If you go on a bus in Denmark, you will only see people talking to eachother if they already know eachother at it's something like moving in to the window seat. I personally don't say a word while alone on my way to and from school.
I was just thinking of how high my taxes are where I live, then I saw this video to remind me that we have a long way to go before we would be on DK's level!
+Kendall Giberson I pay 40% tax, but are able to make a decent living with a partime job anyway. + I can - if I want to/have to - go the doctor, the hospital, take any kind of education I want etc. for free. Actually if you're over 18 you get money for going to school. You can call it "helping each other out". Many of us can thank our system for saving the people we love (especially medically).
+Kelly Louise Killjoy Excellent point. In contrast, the USA has the most expensive healthcare in the world, and yet the infant mortality rate of a 3rd world country. It's truly shameful.
+R3dp055um Actually, according to the world fact book by the CIA, the U.S. comes in 167th place for highest infant mortality rates, followed closely by Denmark, at 191. The U.S. has a rate of 5.87 per 100,000, and Denmark has a rate of 4.055, while other countries such as Mexico has a rate of 12.23. And Mexico is rather a second world country than third world. U.S and Denmark are actually fairly close together, so calling our infant mortality rate an embarrassment would kind of be like calling theirs one too.
+Gʀɑʏ Fʊʟʟвʊѕтɛʀ That ranking is kinda backwards - if you turn it the right way up, Denmark is 33rd, which is surprisingly low, but some of the countries above are absolutely tiny like Malta, San Marino, Guernsey (is Guernsey even a country?).... and USA is..... 57th, yet spends far more on healthcare than anyone else in the world
A good advice.. If you go are in a place with a kitchen. Make your own food, way cheaper than restaurents >.> .. And if you have questions about stuff, most danes are usually helpful.
I'm not a big eater, have no fear, I'm most likely to spend all my krones drinking, buying stuff and visiting nice places. Thanks for your advice, anyway ;)
Makes so much sense now why did they put flags on wedding cakes when The Amazing Race's 25th Season went to Copenhagen as well, and they even had to put the right number. Great video!
I get the same questions asked to me in Australia and I am from America and a Dual Citizen. So my American Accent is a magnet to Australian men and Women. The bicycle issue I had to laugh. It cost me 345.00 for not wearing a sit belt. But Denmark is just like here and people are people.
I miss Denmark, so I'm binge-watching your videos. 🇩🇰 I actually thought Danish people said thank you quite a bit. Haha also, maybe the cost of eating out contributes to the seriousness of a restaurant date in Denmark.
I want in denmark. But i think people won't talk with me. Because you said they don't like to talk strangers. In Georgia we can talk to everyone🙄it is hard to understand foreign rules
Easy enough - just don't smalltalk. Just find a Dane who looks nice, go up to him and ask your way or where there a restaurant of your liking. And I'd say you'll get a kind response from anyone :-)
Curious.... (Not meaning to be critical--) With such easy access to alcohol, is there a high level of alcohol dependency with the youths in your country?
chivalryalive there is drunk idiots like in every country but actually most learn to handle alcohol and get it out of their system early. I don’t like alcohol at all I mostly only drink wine and on occasions 1-3 drinks but that probably only happens 1-4 times a year. But most of the young people are pretty mush done with partying before they turn 21 and just go out get a drink or two with friends on the weekends
As Kat said, we learn our limits and drink for fun, not because of dependancy, other than actual alcoholics of which there are quite a few, but we also get all the Swedish and Norwegian alcoholics because of our laid back alcohol laws compared to their draconic alcohol laws. In alot of cases it's a part of growing up to 'learn your limit', which is why most Danish parents don't get mad at all when their teenager comes home drunk out of their mind and pukes all over the bathroom, well they will most likely make them clean up their puke, but other than that it's a laughing matter, personally i started drinking at 14ish and i quickly learned that it isn't fun getting black out drunk, or atleast it's only something that should be done with alot of time inbetween. Personally i don't binge drink at all except at Roskilde Festival, or occasional birthdays etc.
Hey Kelly, where you get that thing behind your bed , on the wall? I want one, could you send me a link of store or where I could get it from? Please thx
This thing about dark humor and sarcasm it's exactly how we are in Brazil. I always thought that we were the only people who can laugh about certain situations
About the drinking it's like Brazil again. I mean, it's ilegal for anyone under 18 to buy or to drink alcohol, but it's so common that I was with a vodka bottle once and the policeman said hi to me and my brother and walked away even though I was 16
+Nubianette No, people do it all the time, I don't really know what she's on about with that. Sure it's against the law, but I'm sure it is in many other countries, otherwise I don't think there would have a special name for it, then it would just be called crossing the street if it was okay. I have never heard of a single example of anyone getting a fine cause of it. I've even walked on a red light with a cop right next to me, he just told me that I shouldn't do that.
+baconfromhell666 I do know to keep my ticket on the bus and train. I've been on the train when the people who check for that got on. We were all asked to show our ticket. I heard the fine was $70 or so.
Nubianette Yeah, but jaywalking and going on a train without a ticket isn't really the same. People are hired specifically to go on trains and busses to check tickets, you don't have anyone walking up and down the streets to see if anyone are jaywalking :) And the fine is more than $100 actually. The cops here don't have time to deal with jaywalkers, or people who steal bikes or rob houses, it's the wild west out here.
It depends! Some areas there's quite a bit of jaywalking and some areas there's close to none! For the most part it depends on the amount of traffic on the corresponding road
cool, I'm an American and our flags are everywhere too. I watch a lot of youtubers from other countries, mostly the uk, and most of them say that having flags everywhere is kind of weird.
As an American who lived in Denmark for three months...there are infinitely more Danish flags in Denmark than American flags here and I live in Texas! Hahah
@@Avery-zr1tw See my reply before. Flags here are for celebration, typically for the family and friends. Sometimes for the national events as well, though :-)
Danish logic:
Restaurant date: That's far too personal and romantic! Must be done when we're in a serious relationship.
Sex: Let's do it before we get too romantic!
+kara__kats
True
It's not REALLY like that.. It's more.. You get to know eachother first on a more neutral/flirty level. Like say from hanging out in school, mutual friends etc. Rather than beginning the relationship, as if you are already married. :) We "hang out" rather than date.
half danish girl here! you are so right ;D
yeah I find that weird too. sex is so casual there. it explains my interaction with this Danish girl I met before. really does.

Can we please switch lives? (Btw I'm from Denmark)
I would do everything to switch. Denmark is cold as fk and just about everything in Denmark is shiat.
samee
Omg what?! Denmark is so much better than England! We need to set up some kind of exchange programme ...
ooooh, i'm from Denmark. it would be so nice to learn you the danish language :)
that's true!when i visited it was so expensive.. a hot chocolate costed like 8 euros..and it was so cold! BUT it was so beautiful too!The nature, the buildings, everythig! the best trip i've ever had..i would totally go back again!

It's sooo funny that in Copenhagen there are more bikes than people, like bruh do you own 2 bikes one for work and one for going out for fun
Yea some people have a bike for sport and one for normal stuff ^-^
Honestly thats goals
Oh it's cuz you can rent a bike in Copenhagen.
OliverS yes ofc
One for work/school, one for casual everyday biking around in town doing errands, another one for sport. :P
This was really helpful! Just got back from Copenhagen and the advice (mainly about not being killed by bikes) was invaluable. Tak! Absolutely loved Copenhagen.
I am an exchange student living in Denmark next year. this was super helpful! tak
Weird fun fact i noticed when i first entered the country: danish people have huge windows with no curtains 😂

man, living in Denmark sounds like a blast. For young people anyways.
it sure is ;)
are girls as beautiful as her there?
i wuld say so
would*
yep it's fun! As long as you don't get run down by a bike ;D
SO ACCURATE!!, I was an exchange student in Denmark one year ago and I miss all the things you said, specially beer everyday hahahah
I love that you share all of this info about Denmark! My grandmother was from there. I miss hearing her stories. I have to say I loke your shares much more.😀
The dark humor one sold me on Denmark.
Danes like dark humor, you say?
What’s the best part about dead baby jokes? They never get old.
Dark humor is like food in North Korea. Not everyone gets it.
I feel like I was meant to be Danish. The personality traits you gave pretty much explained most of my personality. I guess I have to start my move
LOOOOOL!! xD

Lol, I'm starting to think one of my ancestors were Danish, I'm falling in love with your culture.
Fantastic Video, thanks! My partner and I were thinking of travelling to Copenhagen in a few years, so this video helps.

5$ will buy you 3 x 1,5l soda when they are at a discount in a supermarket, and then you will get 1$ back when you return the bottles.
I'm talking about cafés and restaurants since most tourists eat out.
Yeah, if you eat out in Denmark, you really, really hate your money. I lived out of The Admiral when I first moved there and I thought my per diem was quite generous, until I tried to afford anything on it. Interesting fact - buying a beer out of the vending machine at work (yes, my fellow Americans...AT WORK) was cheaper than a soda. Go Denmark. :)
Just do Not do it! And besides that then really the only people who are using the restaurants in Denmark are Tourists! Most Danes make food at home!
but they have a rly big payment like a 4000e
As we are always learning, we are a student and keeping ego aside, as a tourist, I would be humble, learning things beforehand. As a language and culture enthusiast I would love to talk in Danish. World is beautiful when we seek similarity.
thanks for teaching me a new word: Danneborg.I loved the flags thing!! I can´t wait to go wishing evryone happy birthday!!!
It's just the name of the flat like stars and stripes is for the American.
Saying hello to strangers on the street.. It depends on where you come from. I live in a small city and everybody greets each other when walking by..
And about the bicycles.. That's exclusive for Copenhagen..
+Agurk altså jeg formåede at blive kørt ned i en lille by på en cykle, hun så mig men formåede at ramme lige ind i mig like WTF dame....
Before you go wish them a happy birthday, you had better call ahead first. 😅😅 Hilarious, a great way to start the New Year, laughing.
Just arrived in Denmark for the first time today and I have seen about 4 Billion bikes! She was not kidding about the bikes! They must come in really handy for all the drunk kids at night time!

Thanks for telling everyone. Waiting to meet all u guys here.
I live in Denmark and I don't speak danish.. Doesn't help when you're socially awkward too
Nice pic ;)

Hi Kelly! I've been watching your videos about Denmark for the past two days and I wanted to say hi!
I lived in Denmark for four months last year, and I remember Danish people always being very kind to me. Maybe it's because I was a foreigner.
Probably
***** Dane's are arrogant, selfish assholes so be prepared.
Anja Holm LOL that Danish humor.
Kara what Anja said wasn't humor..
+kara__kats Nope Alice is right
Hey Louise, you should do a meet and greet at Roskilde Festival this year!
we are visiting Copenhagen next weekend, so thanks for the honest tips.
Danish and Dutch dating culture sounds very much alike. To be honest, I always figured that was the default, although I have no clue about dating culture in other European countries.
Glad you explained the flags, i saw small flags in Nettos last week and thought it weird, now it's not so weird. :-)
Elsker virkelig din videoer. Du også meget mere 'real' og andre UA-camrs er ofte ikke. (Elsker dine tatoveringer, hehe)
Thank you miss kelly i want to visit there in denmark
I live in Denmark and one time i was in a bus with my best friend, and we where talking. When we had talked for a while, we realise that we are the only ones talking in the bus.. It was akward.. And it was not like we talked quitly... :P (Sorry for bad gramma)
Omg, you're so cool! Thanks for making this!!
great video Kelly!!! and very helpful!!!!
Haha, when I was in Copenhagen there was a window with "no bikes here". There were like 1000 bikes in front of it xD
:-) :-)
I actually thought that the comment section would only be Danes.. that's nice actually that it isn't just us people from Denmark watching things we already know aha
Kelly! Where did you get the cloth you have on your wall??? it's incredible!
Very interesting. I wish the US would adopt some of Denmark's ways.
So funny...thank u to share this....I had a good time in Denmark.
Thank you!!! I loved your video!!!! Pretty cool and informative!!!
have you done a video of your favorite snacks and food that you like eating?
57th, yet spends far more on healthcare than anyone else in the world
mrmichrom no, the ranking is not backwards at all. Japan holds the lowest infant mortality rate. That's why it's last on the list.
I will go to visit Denmark this fall, so I will check and see for all these things you talked about ! ;)
Wow, Danish people sound a lot like me :)
Lol! Are you sure that you just aren't part Danish or somethin'?
I miss Denmark, so I'm binge-watching your videos. 🇩🇰
I actually thought Danish people said thank you quite a bit. Haha also, maybe the cost of eating out contributes to the seriousness of a restaurant date in Denmark.
I love danish humor! xD Its da best......
Love your vids! :D (From another dane)
I love your sleeve omgg😱😍
I want in denmark. But i think people won't talk with me. Because you said they don't like to talk strangers. In Georgia we can talk to everyone🙄it is hard to understand foreign rules
Easy enough - just don't smalltalk. Just find a Dane who looks nice, go up to him and ask your way or where there a restaurant of your liking. And I'd say you'll get a kind response from anyone :-)
This is fantastic! :-)
Thank you for the video.
This was helpful, thank you!
Personally i don't binge drink at all except at Roskilde Festival, or occasional birthdays etc.
yep. That is the short answer.
I mean, it's ilegal for anyone under 18 to buy or to drink alcohol, but it's so common that I was with a vodka bottle once and the policeman said hi to me and my brother and walked away even though I was 16
Do you have a link for the wall decoration behind your bed?
I'm danish, and I want cake too. lets eat cake one time in a non creepy way...
i want to visit denmark greetings from the dominican republic :)
I remember Visiting Denmark and my cousins friends asked what life in the Usa was like
"hey there beautiful faces" how do you know I'm beautiful? haha rawr XD #relatable
Im Danish and i really want to visit the country. Can you make a video about what to do or where to go in Denmark as a tourist, puhleaase?
There isn't really that much to see in Denmark
I've been to Copenhagen 2 times and my friends and I jaywalked all the time. I saw other people do it as well. Were we just lucky? Ooops!
+baconfromhell666 Yes, but it's something you should know before you go. In my city, the fare isn't monitored.
It depends! Some areas there's quite a bit of jaywalking and some areas there's close to none! For the most part it depends on the amount of traffic on the corresponding road
Thanks Super Helpful
I love Denmark : ) specially Copenhagen. the best city ever. yeah it's freaking expensive.
Denmark is best country Denmark is love Denmark is life.....
Fed profil ^^
NE NE PAPA
Those questions are bullshit. people are people, the same anywhere. just a different language. your making me fall in love with Denmark.
cool, I'm an American and our flags are everywhere too.
Im planning on doing an exchange year in Denmark and I’m from New York, so the price isnt that much of a shock. Its about the same 😂
Same, but from Florida. Denmark prices don’t sound too horrible to me, especially food prices LOL
The parts about privacy and respectfulness literally outline my personality
Well come to Denmark and i'll greet you with a beer
I hope i get selected for a master's in the University of Copenhagen ! I am visiting Denmark in late August !
Thanks for the info
You are awesome keep making videos! ;)
Love your ink, and your eyes too.
