I asked my Danish Boyfriend this questions after 2 months of our so called dating --> "So, are you seeing anybody else?" He looked at me like I was insane and replied with, "I see one person at a time. I'm Danish". I said ok, and here we are four years later. Now, getting engaged a whole other topic. There’s a bit of talking to strangers in the country area that I live in. The bus drivers in my area tend to say hi when someone comes in, and casual conversations tend to happen often because a lot of people know each other. You see it more and more depending on how small the population is.
So I'm not technically a Danish person, but I'm part of the Danish minority in Germany and went to a Danish school in Germany and this definitely applies to me.

Jejjejeje But once you move past the initial stage I can say mostly good thinngs about my danish mand (All danish pun intended) Jejejjeje. That straightforwardness translate to a deep honesty that I found very sweet and reassuring.
Thanks for making me understand Danish people better! It would be awesome if you would also make a video about how you show you're interested in a Dane because for example, in my country - as a woman, if you're interested in a guy, you just look at him 2-3 times right in the eyes (for 2-3 seconds) and also smile and then he will approach you if he likes you back. And when the guy is interested and doesn't know if the woman is interested in him as well, he will act the same: look at you, smile, if you smile back 2-3 times, he comes to you. As you can imagine, I found out that here is not working this way...Pleaaaase make a video about that! How do you, as a woman, act if you're interested in a guy?
We don't know how to show or sense this very first interest, so we have to find excuses for taking contact. Only the bravest overcome this shyness. The rest of us have to be good at finding some legit reason to make contact.
Being French, I can relate to the "danish way" of dating which is pretty similar from what my friends and I or pretty much every other persons I know are doing.
Well, we have been dating for 2 years and 6 months, so we know each other in and out. In the beginning he showed interest in me by talking to me about life and funny things - not by telling me my eyes were a deep ocean of beauty and secrets if you know what I mean :D
mange tak for laver videoerne. jeg laeser dansk fordi jeg elsker en kvinde i Danmark. :D (in case my Danish is terrible... thanks for making the videos im learning Danish because i love a woman in Denmark). This video actually helps because i already made the mistake of "pursuing" as is common in "American dating culture."
ifail atgames I understood what you were saying - I'm honoured that you're trying to learn our language. Good luck in your pursuit of this love interest of yours, I wish you all kinds of success 😊
Har hørt dansk skulle være utrolig svært at lære, hvis det ikke er dit modersmål. Så vil bare sige held og lykke. :) (I don't know how far you are into your studies, so just in case, I'll translate this. - I have heard that Danish is incredibly hard to learn, if it isn't your native tongue. So I just want to say good luck.)
Based off of this list, I'm questioning my Russian/Ukrainian heritage and wondering if I'm really Danish. I live in the United States and people tend to creep me out with how they approach "dating". Just recently I went to a bar to hang out with my friends from my previous job and some random dude kept hitting on me. He was nice at first, but then he was touching me, begging for my phone number, continuously asking me out to dinner AFTER I politely said no the first few times and even attempted to kiss me! I had just met the person. Personal space is a thing I definitely cherish. I like the way the Danes think. People from my country should take notes from you guys.
Finally! A truly egalitarian culture. Got to love Jentalowen. A true sign of humility (soory if I s;pelled it wrong). Happy to watch you again young lady!
I'm from Korea and I think Koreans are very similar to Danes in a way! It's really creepy to talk to strangers in Korea. If you say hello to your random neighbors in city areas, they might think you're weird. (Of course there are people you get to know in the neighborhood and say hello tho.) Also Koreans are very shy sometimes so if you try to talk to them on street or something, some of them might run away.
I am not Danish, but I visited Copenhagen and Aarhus last summer and fell absolutely in love! The culture is absolutely amazing! It's hard at first to not make eye contact on the street and smile at first (being an American), but I think that's what I love! You guys aren't all up in each other's business! Also, these dating ideologies are very nice too! Can I move to Denmark when the shit hits the fan in the U.S.? Haha
I have had a few Danish people come up to me and start talking to me on the street. I am a photographer and have some interesting cameras (Rolleicord, Hasselblad, etc) and it's usually like, "Wow that's a nice camera." ("Det er en dejlig kamera!") They are always very polite. I like the Danes very much. They have a sense of community and pride in their country that Americans used to have, but we don't have any more.
Danish, born and raised in Sonderjytland.. I find your videos extremely funny, just found your channel, and havent laughed so hard for weeks - you just got a new sub ;)
I'm scared now jaja I'm Mexican and I'm talking with a Danish guy; our culture is sooo different Gender roles are really strong, formalities are kinda important, there's a lot of taboo with sex, we are very affectionate and romantic
I am really happy to know that you value equality. Right to equality is a basic element of the constitution of every democratic country, be it UK , USA, Denmark or India, the mine one
I’m currently 13 and I want to move to Denmark when I’m older, such a beautiful country and I’m currently trying to learn Danish because of my favourite streamer called Kragiee
az929292 oh I don't live in Denmark... Yet at least. I really want to and I am currently looking into schools! Fingers crossed that I will find something that works!
But you said one night stands are usual and no sex shame, but then you said we dont talk to strangers. So how to have sex with somebody in a night club if you dont talk to him first?
Dude, I can tell you one about Danish girls, without the make her drunk.. it's not easily to have sex. and in this case after you have sex with her... on the first day, you will get her phone number or Facebook. and after other day, if you tried to text her or call her she wouldn't answer and no remember you...... that's because she was drunk 🤮🤤😂 and this young lady she make this video she saying that we don't talk with a stranger. {True} dude this lady say that we don't talk with a stranger.. Yeah... they don’t 😂😂😂 Hmmmm!!!! but they just talk only with drugs dealers. i’m saying this all it’s not because I don’t like danish people. that’s how it is:))) I’m saying is true... Aaaanyway..... long story.
Interesting My husband and I are coming to Denmark next year, and even though we are already married and quite happy about that, it was helpful to understand the culture. We want to see a lot and learn a lot and have a nice time while we are doing it, that's it. Greta
NOthing to do to with this video, but: I am learning Danish, and plan on visiting in a few years (have to save up the money, and money is not good, right now). Any tips on a foreigner wanting to speak with you(and by that , I mean Danes in general) in your native tongue?
Would they get mad if i forgot to let them open the door for themselves and did it out of habit? or is it more of an "unnecessary but appreciated" kind of thing, and then they stop thinking about it?
It does of course depend on the individual. In general I haven't gotten much negativity by eg. holding the door. But you probably should let them take care of the chair themselves. I am a Dane myself, and I do sometimes go towards "dating" a bit less like the normal Danish way, but I do think it is brushed over more easily, as I am also a woman.
As a danish woman, I personally would not be mad, but it could annoy me in the long term. And it has in one of my relationships. And it could be a reason for me to stop dating/not dating. In situations where my hands are full, a holding door is of course appreciated, and would be rather rude to anyone if you wouldnt hold the door xD Theres situations where i hold the door for a guy too. Its just, be polite, hold the door for anyone, not because of their gender. Help them if they need help, dont pull the chair out to be a gentleman, pull the chair out to make it easier to sit down in a tiring situation, like after a rough day at work, at home in the kitchen. i dont know if you understand... I mean... holding the door, pulling out the chair etc, is not a gentleman thing, its something you do for you partner either man or woman, not to show off at a restaurent but rather a thing for making situations easier. Therefore you should also pull out the chair for your friend or father in some situations.
@@LauraLei come vi siete conosciuti?
I'd say the first one depends on the person, I (a dane) found that a lot of random people likes to have a chat with a stranger about this and that, as long as it comes naturally. But the rest of your observations seems spot on and it's fun to take a step back and look At us crazy danes ^w^ P.S. always try and sit next to someone in the bus or train, no need for talking.
l can easily talk to any women but in Denmark l noticed if there's a danish man present they will ignore me. Since l from southern Europe it annoys me to ask permission from another man to talk to a woman. So l only talk to grannies in Denmark, oh, they love me. :)
The gender rule is something very interesting. If you look at the statistics, Denmark is one of the countries with the highest amount of women in human related studies and men in mathematics and engineering. There is surely nothing to do with who does the work at home, but tells a lot about how traditional the country still is when it comes to professions and worklife.
Im dating a danish now. After we talked online for 3 months. He decided to flew to Philippines and meet me for 4 days. He’s 40 and I am 26. The first 2 days were together he is so sweet but after that he seem so distant and doesnt talk a lot. I understand he’s busy working on his laptop I just don’t understand why he doesnt want to cuddle anymore. And now he flies back to Denmark now and told me before he walk to the Airport door that he will be back for me later this year. Do you think he’s really serious about us? I’m still confused about us. I mean I like him so much it’s just that I don’t understand what he’s really into. Please i need some advice. Mange tak! 😊
Met a Danish woman in a bar in Paris once. She seemed really nice and we were getting on really well. We talked for well over an hour and she told me some personal stuff about herself, including the fact that she'd just broken up with her boyfriend. I was a bit older than her so I wasn't sure if she liked me or was just being friendly. Anyway, I went to the toilet and when I returned to my seat she was locked in conversation with three other blokes and it was like I didn't exist anymore. Is this usual for Danish women?
I wish I'd seen this earlier. I've messed up big time trying to show attention to the point that she stopped responding and later sent a text that reads: "it's too intense for me already" In total I sent 8 whatsapp messages in 3 days against 2 from her 😂. Is there a way to get it back ?
The way you described people in Denmark it sounds like I’m danish I’m exactly like this. My only problem I think when it would come to dating is that I’m not very social it sounds like dating in Denmark is more like it used to be in the US which would come from your social circle but I’m kind of a loner so I’d probably struggle with that sense. I’d have to do more social activities like maybe play in a metal band or something.
I totally agree with all of these tips =D and I think another tip is to not talk negative about our language, even though I guess it goes for other countries as well.
Thanks Kelly for a great laugh. The reason is that for about 8 months now I've been friends with 2 Danes. one of whom I am dating since sept/oct. Your video describes him so closely but with a few exceptions of course. I am from the US so we are getting used to each others cultural differences. Ill be back in CPH by thur. Thanks for giving me a laugh. And yes, i sent this video to him also.
Louise, does that explain why my Aussie half Dane half Portuguese sucks at dealing with arguments and those stuff, felt he is cold to me and I am unloved at times? Also does that explain why he gave me his 'crabby' side during arguments? Also the 'stubborness' when it comes to following the rules?
Seriously love your videos they just crack me up 😂 plus they have been really useful to connect with the Danes and their culture. It was quite hard at the beginning to understand why you are like you are compared to my culture, which are basically opposites 😂
I wish to know something do Danes love foreigners I mean going out for dating like I am Indian I traveled places far away but when I was in Germany I found them to be too shy and not outspoken
Vaibhav Chachad I dont think we LOVE foreigners, we pretty much see people as equals. So if you find a dane that dont mind speaking english, then you pretty much have the same chance with them as a danish person would have :) but if you find germans to be shy, you will find the danes to be shy too. I know plenty of danes who will hesitate if they have to speak english even tho they can. I just came home from a trip to Germany and I would say that germans and danes are pretty much the same when you try to socialize with strangers.
Omg, me and my friend got to know each other in such a Danish fashion😂 ( well to be fair, we are Danish, but still ) We were seat mates for a whole year before we said anything other than "hi" or "good morning" to each other😂😅 And we became friends by asking each other's age ( we were both 18 at the time ), birthday ( we're both born in march, and our dates are really close together ), where we lived ( we live in the same town, and had no idea😂 ) and our hobbies ( we're both *incredibly* invested in our interests ) so we found out how much we have in common, and kinda just went from there ( and we've been friends for about a year now, almost two😊 ) So it's kinda funny how there are so many things that I recognize in this video about how I became friends with her! But then again, as you said, some of these 'rules' kind of apply for socializing in Denmark in general, so this video is probably very helpful for foreigners who just want to socialize in our country😁
Brazilians don't date either but here you can go to a club and starting to chat about anything if the other person ( a stranger) wants (normally the woman) you might go on an " One night stand" and then the relationship envolves. In Brazil kissing on a first sight it´s common. There other thing we pretend that we are in a romantic relationship even if are casual thing,so saying " I love you" don´t means much here.
I've dated three Danish women but in reality, we just sort of met and I don't think there were dates... We just sorta got together after spending time on parties we made sure we'd meet each other at. To be fair, it works the same with Swedish women, and I'm Swedish so it wasn't a big difference on how that works.
Hvor er du fantastisk! But how DO you date a Danish person? I tried a Danish website, and they all ask for the Danish zip codes and stuff. Well, I live in the USA and would like to meet a Danish man...
My short trip in Denmark was so cold and disconnected. People (girls specifically) were so off putting. Until I went to Warpig, everyone was fun. But they were mostly non-danes...
It's the Viking mentality !!! She's a bit arrogant !? And I thought that the Germans were rough going, but they are angels next to you guys!! Thank God I'm living in America !!!

Everything Danes do is so efficient, with a purpose, and I think it's super respectful! I hate when random people waste my time here in Los Angeles haha.😅It sounds awful, but I do not have the energy to feign interest.
Wait! What?! You can't talk about the weather?!!! But... what if you are British? You've just denied every British person in Denmark the power of speech.
It's more a matter of talking to strangers. In Denmark, small-talk is something you EARN.

Funny how you describe Danes not being "romantic" kind of type but your bf seems to be pretty romantic :) nice video as always! Thumbs up
Well, we have been dating for 2 years and 6 months, so we know each other in and out. In the beginning he showed interest in me by talking to me about life and funny things - not by telling me my eyes were a deep ocean of beauty and secrets if you know what I mean :D
Kelly Louise Killjoy hahahaha yes I understand
between your "dark humor" video, and this one, I am beginning to wonder if I'm Danish instead of British/German descent. great videos **subscribed**
Possibly you are since British people have good relations with danish and Germany shares a border with denmark
I think I'd become antisocial when I'll move to Danmark, omg
You'll fit right in then! :D
maybe not antisocial, maybe just introverted
mange tak for laver videoerne. jeg laeser dansk fordi jeg elsker en kvinde i Danmark. :D (in case my Danish is terrible... thanks for making the videos im learning Danish because i love a woman in Denmark). This video actually helps because i already made the mistake of "pursuing" as is common in "American dating culture."

I understood what you were saying - I'm honoured that you're trying to learn our language. Good luck in your pursuit of this love interest of yours, I wish you all kinds of success 😊
Har hørt dansk skulle være utrolig svært at lære, hvis det ikke er dit modersmål. Så vil bare sige held og lykke. :)
(I don't know how far you are into your studies, so just in case, I'll translate this. - I have heard that Danish is incredibly hard to learn, if it isn't your native tongue. So I just want to say good luck.)
@Mikkel Juul Madsen I særdeleshed hvis man ikke kan stave eller gradbøje de mest simple begreber eller udtryk,- selv hvis man er dansk.
People from my country should take notes from you guys.
ok... now I see I got almost everything wrong while dating/not dating a danish 😂
Matilde Almind Rohlin Hansen 8B Marienhoffskolen No, they're talking about the pastry. Very difficult to date
This was awesome hahaha I love the tapestry on your wall, I have a couple as well.
Oh please, just give them beer and lakrids and its all yours :D Nice video :)
In copenhagen you would be lucky to get home with a boy over the age of 12 then 😂 and it would work ten times better on a playground then at a bar 😮
I have a date tonight with a Faroese girl. Thanks for all the great tips! But do they apply to Faroese girls too?
Yes. But you'll know by now :-)
I should have been born in Denmark. ;)
Denmark is NOT a country its a mindset -
Denmark is a country..... The mindset u are talking about, is more our nationality
I was born there lol
haha can't even add on, that was perfect ^-^.... we kinda get awkward and weirded out easily don't we? ;)
Unfortunately yes.
Very nice. Quite instructive. With a great dose of good humor.
I'm scared now jaja
I'm Mexican and I'm talking with a Danish guy; our culture is sooo different
Gender roles are really strong, formalities are kinda important, there's a lot of taboo with sex, we are very affectionate and romantic
I am really happy to know that you value equality. Right to equality is a basic element of the constitution of every democratic country, be it UK , USA, Denmark or India, the mine one
What does a danish boy do if he wants to date a American woman
I want to ask a stranger in denmark for a date. Do Icelandic people follow Jantelagen?
Sounds like I was a misdelivered Danish person, born in Japan.
So you feel weird when people talk to you? Bad for you, what a pity.
I’m currently 13 and I want to move to Denmark when I’m older, such a beautiful country and I’m currently trying to learn Danish because of my favourite streamer called Kragiee
I wanna be your friend SO bad. I love your videos! My boyfriend is Danish, living in Denmark and watching your videos has been so helpful!
Maria Corinne
I hope you've been able to settle down well and that you feel happy about your life here in Denmark 😊
az929292 oh I don't live in Denmark... Yet at least. I really want to and I am currently looking into schools! Fingers crossed that I will find something that works!
Maria Corinne
Ah, I'm sorry, my mistake 😜
But if you do end up in Denmark eventually, I hope you'll be feeling happy here. Good luck 😊
I'm glad to hear and since you're here you ARE my friend! :D
@@KellyLouiseKilljoy :) sarcasm
I am Australian with some Danish ancestors now I know why I'm like I am, thank you for the insight. Now I have to go to Denmark, I HAVE TO GO
Also I have dane ancestors, I would like to go there too 😭
Also I have dane ancestors, I would like to go there too.
I am Danish these are good tips specially when your raised in America and is named Dane
But you said one night stands are usual and no sex shame, but then you said we dont talk to strangers. So how to have sex with somebody in a night club if you dont talk to him first?
You can have sex without talking, i dont see the problem? :P
If that's the case, I dont see a problem either haha
Any tips on a foreigner wanting to speak with you(and by that , I mean Danes in general)
in your native tongue?
@@avemarie7364 Yes, hold the door. Kind of in our upbringing. A sign of good manners and not least respect :-) I'm Danish :-)
Would you make a video about Netflix serie Rita? Your impressions and what things you can relate to real danish life?
I can't express how much I love this!! The video and the rules haha ❤️
This couldn't be more accurate.
- Italian girl with Danish boyfriend
Anche io! :)
@@LauraLei come vi siete conosciuti?
Hi 😇
I'd say the first one depends on the person,
I (a dane) found that a lot of random people likes to have a chat with a stranger about this and that, as long as it comes naturally.
But the rest of your observations seems spot on and it's fun to take a step back and look
At us crazy danes ^w^
P.S. always try and sit next to someone in the bus or train, no need for talking.
OMG I love this video haha. It is exactly how we are.
Nice weather outside! Wanna date?
l can easily talk to any women but in Denmark l noticed if there's a danish man present they will ignore me. Since l from southern Europe it annoys me to ask permission from another man to talk to a woman. So l only talk to grannies in Denmark, oh, they love me. :)
Grannies in Denmark are the best. Cause either they love or hate you c:
The gender rule is something very interesting. If you look at the statistics, Denmark is one of the countries with the highest amount of women in human related studies and men in mathematics and engineering. There is surely nothing to do with who does the work at home, but tells a lot about how traditional the country still is when it comes to professions and worklife.
I am Mexican and a I like very much a danish boy, can someone help me with an advice or something, please!
Is this usual for Danish women?
colinmatts Get in there and fight your corner lol
More of a lover than a fighter
I am not in Denmark now or never been there yet. So, how can I possibly date a danish 🤔?
I wish I'd seen this earlier. I've messed up big time trying to show attention to the point that she stopped responding and later sent a text that reads: "it's too intense for me already"
In total I sent 8 whatsapp messages in 3 days against 2 from her 😂.
Is there a way to get it back ?
This is so interesting.. I’m Middle Eastern and the guy I’m talking to is Danish, thanks for the info 😅
What does danish people think about expats?, are they welcoming to foreigners?
I totally agree with all of these tips =D and I think another tip is to not talk negative about our language, even though I guess it goes for other countries as well.
I feel so danish but I'm bulgarian. I'll feel really comfortable in Denmark. Thank you for that video.
Thank you for the tips ✊🏻
Thanks Kelly for a great laugh. The reason is that for about 8 months now I've been friends with 2 Danes. one of whom I am dating since sept/oct. Your video describes him so closely but with a few exceptions of course. I am from the US so we are getting used to each others cultural differences. Ill be back in CPH by thur. Thanks for giving me a laugh. And yes, i sent this video to him also.
what do danes think about dating indian(s) in denmark?
Easy! chemistry is important ... Hope this is what you experienced --- :-)
Mmm, what would you say about how it feels when danes living abroad?
So don-t give alot of attention or affection- but they might go to bed with u before having a relationship?
I know it’s really weird
Louise, does that explain why my Aussie half Dane half Portuguese sucks at dealing with arguments and those stuff, felt he is cold to me and I am unloved at times? Also does that explain why he gave me his 'crabby' side during arguments? Also the 'stubborness' when it comes to following the rules?
If a dane appreciate you, you will know.
Ave Marie Mange tak for lettig me know Dear.
Seriously love your videos they just crack me up 😂 plus they have been really useful to connect with the Danes and their culture. It was quite hard at the beginning to understand why you are like you are compared to my culture, which are basically opposites 😂
You are very funny. I mean this in a very positive way. Greetings from the States.
Happy belated birthday!!!! Always enjoy your videos and thank you for putting some positivity out into the world! Keep it up!
How does someone from the US meet a Danish person because I am exactly like all the things you mentioned 😅 I am also single so
Omg, me and my friend got to know each other in such a Danish fashion😂 ( well to be fair, we are Danish, but still )
We were seat mates for a whole year before we said anything other than "hi" or "good morning" to each other😂😅
And we became friends by asking each other's age ( we were both 18 at the time ), birthday ( we're both born in march, and our dates are really close together ), where we lived ( we live in the same town, and had no idea😂 ) and our hobbies ( we're both *incredibly* invested in our interests ) so we found out how much we have in common, and kinda just went from there ( and we've been friends for about a year now, almost two😊 )
So it's kinda funny how there are so many things that I recognize in this video about how I became friends with her!
But then again, as you said, some of these 'rules' kind of apply for socializing in Denmark in general, so this video is probably very helpful for foreigners who just want to socialize in our country😁
How do I make friends in Denmark?
Brazilians don't date either but here you can go to a club and starting to chat about anything if the other person ( a stranger) wants (normally the woman) you might go on an " One night stand" and then the relationship envolves. In Brazil kissing on a first sight it´s common. There other thing we pretend that we are in a romantic relationship even if are casual thing,so saying " I love you" don´t means much here.
Thanks btw for the tips! And yeah its gonna help me💛
I've dated three Danish women but in reality, we just sort of met and I don't think there were dates... We just sorta got together after spending time on parties we made sure we'd meet each other at.
To be fair, it works the same with Swedish women, and I'm Swedish so it wasn't a big difference on how that works.
I don't know how I got here, but I like it! You've got yourself a new subscriber. :)
skål!
Hvor er du fantastisk! But how DO you date a Danish person? I tried a Danish website, and they all ask for the Danish zip codes and stuff. Well, I live in the USA and would like to meet a Danish man...
Why UA-cam recommended your channel soooooooo late, I got these dating rules after half a year!!! But, finally, i get my guy.
My short trip in Denmark was so cold and disconnected. People (girls specifically) were so off putting. Until I went to Warpig, everyone was fun. But they were mostly non-danes...
Im going to be moving to Denmark some time this year. How do i make friends? Im really nervous
Are u made it?
I litterly love being danish, it's just...
POWEFULL😤
It's the Viking mentality !!! She's a bit arrogant !? And I thought that the Germans were rough going, but they are angels next to you guys!! Thank God I'm living in America !!!
And stay where you are - just saying :-) (Finn/Denmark)
My question out of curiosity, If danish people are like that, why should you date them.
Cause we have the word "Hygge" c:
First 3 already check depends on subject, but I'm autistic and if a girl I'm dating tried to get touchy enter total mental collapse and horribly experience
don't like small talk, if I have no nothing 2 says don't say anything
Everything Danes do is so efficient, with a purpose, and I think it's super respectful! I hate when random people waste my time here in Los Angeles haha.😅It sounds awful, but I do not have the energy to feign interest.
God I wish I lived in Denmark because one of my best guy friends live there and we'd love to date each other :(
How did you communicate so ?
