I have regular Crayola crayons that I still color with and I’m almost fifty. The smell brings me back to childhood of laying on the floor coloring and watching monster movies. The factory was not able to tell me why they have that unique smell though and I smelled the wax the clay and the pigment and nope no smell. I also have water salable crayons that are great just a different brand and in a set of 40. Great video and thanks for this comparison.
Lol, I know what you mean about the odor, I also can remember what the cheap oil pastels and watercolors I had as a kid and what they smelled like. My memory is starting to go but I can still remember smells and even some that I associate with certain places. I'm 61 and when I was a kid the jackpot was getting the big box of crayons with the sharpener in it!
Aww... when I saw the thumbnail, I thought this video was going to be one of you and Tiffany drawing something together but with your own level's tools - AHAhaha, Toodler's grade. On the side note, those Caran d'Ache crayons are really really bright when water is used on it. Wow.
I love this, I remember buying a huge pack of crayola and using them for figure drawing instead of getting vine charcoal, loved how it made that sketchbook look, and a bit less messy, can't do a lot that charcoal can, but for someone learning and focusing on timed drills over a perfected piece it made practicing more fun :)
washable is more about being washed out of clothing, off of walls , etc .. water soluble is another , different thing ... caran dache crayons are wonderful !! i use them often .. 👍👍
I like to carry a few neocolor watercolor crayons to sketch outdoors, especially to draw ponies, goats, etc. like at a petting zoo/farm - great for working quickly with a waterbrush. Fun video! Thanks!!
O this was a really good video.... Neocolor is always pitted against the top brass pastels out there ... I had crayola lying around so was always curious how are they in comparison to these inexpensive crayolas.... Thanks Teoh !!
Hi Teoh, thanks for the video, great as always. Caran d' Ache has been my favorite art crayon for so many years, both the water soluble and the non-ws, though I tend to lean towards the water soluble more. The part about Crayola crayons made me nostalgic, when I was a kid it was a big deal to get "The Big Box" with the eraser in it, usually only on Christmas or a birthday. Lol, I can still remember the smell of them. Your children are so blessed to have artists for parents who encourage their creativity.
I never would have thought of trying to activate Crayola washable crayons with water. I just thought it meant that they could be washed off surfaces like tables and walls. Lol. I love my Neocolor II and want a larger set. So expensive though. Thanks Teoh.😁💜
I was wondering how these would work so thank you for doing this! I really only wanted a cheap white for painting waves and use the CDNC1 as a masking option instead of masking fluid. I think I'll grab a set of the CDNC2 and a pack of these Crayolas for my sketchbook practices.
i like using cheaper/kids materials, when i want to make pale tones i also combine them with professional materials. definitely you can't make a strong red with them, but you can make interesting textures, strokes and scratches!
Hi Teoh... Nice review!! You are right, by what I see in your review this Crayola is aimed to "toddler public". I have the school wax soluble and permanent version of Caran D'Ache, and I can see that they are much better than the Crayola. I recently bought the Neocolor 2 and it seems a little more pigmented than their school version, of course they probably are lightfast rated. Thank you for all the content you have shared with us!
I've been curious abt the Neocolour series... Thank you so much Teoh for sharing them here! How blendable & vibrant they are as one can expect fr a reputable brand like Caran D'ache!
I can only speak from my own experience but I love the Neocolors, both the water soluble and the non-ws. I discovered them about 24 years ago on a trip to buy some watercolors and my husband pointed out the Caran d' Arche Neocolors, he bought me a small box of each, 1&2, it wasn't long before I got the full set of both! I still use them fairly often all these years later, they are a little pricey but they have such good quality and they last a long time.
But Crayola and Neocolor II and two different things. Crayola says that their cayons are just washable, Neocolor II are water soluble to used them as watercolor....
In the US we don't buy the washable Crayola as much, as least not for school. I always bought the 24 pack of regular Crayola crayons. In US they were on sale for $1.00 for the 24 pack at back to school time. I think we have about 5 packs unused still. 🤣 My sonnis 15 now!
Those are really quite popular around the world, aren't they? They are just as popular here in Germany, even though there's so many other budget supply brands here, too. I never really got into using them, though, not even as a kid. Guess, they're just not the right medium for me ^^'
We didn't, we lived in dread fear of my father and my parents always kept us well supplied with art supplies, just to keep us quiet and out of the way but hey, I didn't care, I would go off into my own little corner and creat.
"Young children like to draw everywhere, the world is their canvas."
Such a beautiful quote.
The joy of having kids is also getting to test their art supplies! Lol
Family member: Oh cool, you bought my little kiddo crayons!
Me: These... are... mine...
"toddler-grade crayons" 😂😎
On the flip side, it's so blessed to hav an artist for a father too! The kid gets to experiment with Daddy's costly art supplies too!
I haven't seen crayons in so long. Seeing this gives me nostalgia!
I fell in love with Caran d'Ache just watching this 😍😄

Love the vibrancy of Caran D Neocolour... I think the washable crayola are meant to be washed off fingers of kids not meant as watercol on paper...

What a fun thing to do with grandkids. Painting with toddler-grade crayons! 😆
Tfs.
woah! those caran dache crayons seem like a great way to add texture to a watercolor piece
See Paul Wang on Instagram, great artist using similar ❤️
They are, you can also work them into a collage or art journal page, depending on what substrate you use.

I remember getting in so much trouble for drawing on the walls as a kid
Tiffany proof crayons 😂 Hope you are all well.
Save any broken neocolours 2 into watercolour pans and apply with paint brush.

Wow, the Caran d'Ache dilute beautifully!

Thank you Teoh Yi Chie! I love your videos, another very thorough review :))
I have some of the Neocolor 2 from many years ago, I bought them open stock somewhere.
I never would have thought to do wet-on-wet crayon!!

Crayola is washable; it isn't the same as 'suited as watercolour crayon"

Thank you so much for testing the Crayola's water solubility!

Thanks for the review. The Neocolor II crayons now have my interest...
Oh, I see you have another crayon video: ua-cam.com/video/HAVaziSa6ZA/v-deo.html
That wasn’t a good video. Neocolor crayons are way better than what I’ve shown in the video
@@teohyc That's good news. I also found out my local art shop carries an assortment of Neocolor 2 crayons... I'm going to check some out.
Thank you! I have been wondering how well Crayola ultra washable would work for watercolor art.
In the US we don't buy the washable Crayola as much, as least not for school. I always bought the 24 pack of regular Crayola crayons. In US they were on sale for $1.00 for the 24 pack at back to school time. I think we have about 5 packs unused still. 🤣

Definitely toddler approved as my walls can attest.
Good reviews. 🎨❤️👍🏼
Yeah I've been using these for art for a while, just sketches too!

This is a great product, especially if the children draw on walls and tables 😀
Who hasn’t drawn on the wall with crayons as a kid! ☺️ They weren’t washable when I did it so my mom was quite upset.
My mom made me scrub them off myself. I never made that mistake again!
We didn't, we lived in dread fear of my father and my parents always kept us well supplied with art supplies, just to keep us quiet and out of the way but hey, I didn't care, I would go off into my own little corner and creat.
Thank you!
7:53 i agree
Crayons crayons have to much wax. The quality seem not as good from what I remember as a child.
Thx for vid
They are great
BUT
the colors are fugitive
They will fade
That's a surprise 🤔
@7:14 rip caran crayons
