The reason Cinderella's dress has gotten bluer and bluer over the years is because in one of the re-releases for the film, the producers wanted the VHS cover to have sparkles all over it, including on Cinderella's dress, but because of the lighter, silvery color, the sparkles blended right in. To counteract that, they added some blue into the dress to help them stand out, and marketing took the bluer design and ran with it ever since, adding more and more blue to it to what we see in the marketing today with almost no hint of the original color.
This isn't really a total fact, but, the actress who played Cinderella took her daughter to see it and her daughter started to jump up and down in the theater saying "My mommy is cinderella!" And a woman turns and goes "That's cute. She thinks her mom is Cinderella."
You got one detail wrong. It wasn't Dumbo that failed at the box office, it was Fantasia. Dumbo was actually a huge success at the time and it helped the studio to recover the money that was lost on Pinocchio and Fantasia. The fact they kept Dumbo under lower budget by having a simpler, cartoony style rather than the more realistic style like Snow White, Pinocchio, Fatasia and Bambi and that they used watercolored backgrounds rather than gausch or oil-based paint they did for the other movies (This cost saving technique was used in Chris Sander's and Dean De Bois' Lilo & Stitch when the post Renissance movies flopped).
Had literally NO idea how much fashion was a part of Cinderella. The way it unconsciously play on your bias too is interesting. I see so many good suggestions in the comments; Kingdom Hearts, Little Mermaid, Miraculous Ladybug... all these need a 107 Facts video!
Thank you for answering me! And featuring my comment. I've loved Cinderella when it was re-released. It was like Frozen to me. I still love Cinderella. 😍
Do Total Drama, another My Little pony, Animaniacs, Danny Phantom, Winx Club, Kim Possible, or Barbie. If you do 107 Total Drama, I think one of Tim's lightning rounds would be good in it.
the first three disney princess movies are seriously the most aesthetically, both visually and audibly, pleasing movies of all time. I love them so mcuh
So they're finally making a Disney Prince movie? Fun stuff. :) Oh, by the by, the Three Cabelleros is an amazing movie. You should totally do 107 facts about that.
I remember seeing the Chinese version of Cinderella on CBS Storybreak. In that one the fish that the stepmother kills was a magic fish. It provided the girl food whenever the stepmother sent her to bed without supper. It was also the one who provided the girl with fancy clothes to wear for the ball.
Just so you know cels were never called "eels" They were called cels with a "C" because in the early days of animation the transparent sheets were made of celluloid. Acetate later replaced them because it was sturdier and not as flammable, but the clear sheets have always been called "cels." 108th fact you should know.
DO A VID ON THISSS: In rise of the guardians, Jack's little sister grew up to marry the king of Arendele. The moon told her that her first child would have ice powers in honor of Jack who thought she was dead. This is how Elsa got her powers.
Have you guys ever thought about doing a 107 Facts video based on an animated sequel? If yes, can you guys ever consider doing a 107 Facts video based on Return to Neverland?
Actually, the whole changing-Cinderella's-castle-to-Elsa's-palace blunder was an April fools joke on the part of the Disney imagineers. When talking about the future plans for the castle, Ilene Woods (Disney spokesperson) said “We’re hoping for a year from today, that would make it April 1, 2016. April 1…get it? Oh, and one more thing. Did I mention that the bridge to Adventureland is for sale? I can get you a good deal on it if anyone is interested.”
The "Cinderella" with Brandy is awesome. WAY better than the recent remake. Of course, I like Rogers and Hammerstein, which helps. Also the Brandy one's funny. The recent one is just kinda "so ok it's average."
Actually, because dumbo was produced at a low cost, it actually did well at the box office. I think what you mean is that films like Pinocchio, bambi, and Fantasia failed at the box office.
Finally! Someone mentions the Cinderella movie that featured Whitney Houston! I never was big into Cinderella as a kid, but I really enjoyed the 1997 version. It was magical, whimsical and not so, I guess goofy. The parts with the mice and the birds singing and Bippity Boppity Boo, was what turned me off about the animated film. (I'm not big on goofy songs, even when I was a kid.) That's what I liked about the old live action film. The songs were bearable and I loved settings. You can hate me all you want for me saying this. I don't hate the animated film. It's just simply not my cup of tea and I just prefer the live action remakes over it.
I'm with you, the Cinderella with Whitney Houston is my all time favorite version. The songs are so much fun, I fell in love with the characters as a child, and no other version has really been able to live up to, at least for me.
8:27 Specifically, Technicolor's lab. 9:40 I think you're confusing the Perrault adaptation of Cinderella to the Grimm one. I thought her father was dead in the Perrault one, but I know he was living in Grimm's. 10:11 Mulan is not a princess, because she is not the emperor's daughter. She never marries the captain either, but even if she did, that still doesn't make her a princess because he wasn't the emperor's son. 10:29 Turtle or tortoise? Tortoises live on land, turtles live in water. 10:40 Did they speed up Jimmy's voice for the mice? They sound like Alvin & the Chipmunks. 11:20 While Belle and the beast never sang a duet in Beauty and the Beast, they did have the famous dance scene. 12:28 It looks like it was pretty accurate, for the most part. 12:52 It's Lady and the Tramp, not "The Lady and the Tramp." 13:17 I believe Eleanor Audley was the live action rotoscope model for both her characters as well. 14:14 I remember hearing the Goofy holler in this scene, but I was always curious whether this was Disney's first non-Goofy cartoon to feature it. 14:51 I think the film is supposed to be set in the Middle Ages or the Renaissance era. The "gas lights" in the background and the military uniforms are simply meant to make the setting look old-fashioned. A lot of the paintings we see of the Pilgrims wearing all black and hats with buckles depicted them this way for the same reason, although the real Pilgrims hardly ever did this. 15:07 This was later used in the Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella TV movie from the 90s (the one with Brandy and Whitney Houston), before Cinderella sings "In My Own Little Corner." 15:40 At some point, Cinderella's stepmother figures out that Cinderella was the "mystery date" (so to speak), because she locks Cinderella in a separate room when the grand duke comes to have them put on the glass slipper. This also happened in the R&H adaptation with Brandy. (It's a wonder the king didn't have them beheaded or something for trying to hinder his orders.) 17:12 In addition, for the most recent home media release of Cinderella in 2012, Christian Louboutin designed a glass slipper, complete with his iconic lacquered red leather sole. 17:17 IIRC, the mice didn't "design" the dress, they simply added to it. In the film, Cinderella says that her mother once owned the dress, and there was even a song cut from the final film about it called "The Dress My Mother Wore." 18:43 Snopes did an article on this and concluded that the glass slippers in Perrault's adaptation were not the result of a mistranslation, as commonly believed. Cinderella, like most fairy tales, has fantastic elements that would not happen in real life, and glass slippers are one of those. (Imagine how dangerous they are if they break while wearing them!) They were simply Perrault's own unique contribution to the story. 19:02 I'm pretty sure they didn't have any sort of numbering system for shoe sizes back then. Certainly sizes themselves have changed much over the years; Marilyn Monroe once wore a dress size of 16, which would be about the same as a size 10 today. 19:31 Like many of the Tin Pan Alley songwriters, Al Hoffman was Jewish. And the Sherman Brothers, who worked on MANY Disney films during Walt's lifetime and beyond, were also Jewish. That kind of puts a dent in the whole "Walt Disney was anti-Semitic" canard. 21:05 Did they really do a theatrical reissue in 2013? I don't recall hearing anything about it. And it wouldn't make much sense since they released it to home media in the fall of 2012. 21:50 It's certainly one of my all-time favorite films (and I'm a guy, BTW, so it's not just a "chick flick.") 21:58 I read somewhere that Cinderella's castle at Disney World is the most photographed building in the world, or comes very close to it. 22:36 When Disneyland first opened, the castle was named for Snow White, but a few years later, when Sleeping Beauty was released, Walt renamed it for that film. 22:52 Did Disney ever change the name back? It's a shame how they keep trying to bury their history, as evidenced by their failure to recognize the 75th anniversaries of Snow White, Pinocchio, and Dumbo (and most likely Bambi this year.) That's just one of many reasons why I hate the Disney of today. So yes, "frickin Elsa" indeed. 23:07 Disney's recent cover art has been pretty lousy too. Why does Prince Charming look like he has a six-pack there? 24:04 I love most of the music in the film, especially "A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes" from the opening scene. Probably my favorite song from a Disney film. But my favorite line would have to be when Drizella and Anastasia are teasing Cinderella about going to the ball, and one of them says, "I'd be honored, your highness. Would you mind holding my broom?" And before I go, I'd just like to thank you for this video. Cinderella is my favorite Disney animated film, and probably my all-time favorite after Space Jam and Osmosis Jones. I think it's only appropriate given you'd do this since Frederator produced what is quite possibly my favorite TV show of all time, My Life as a Teenage Robot, which you also did a "107 facts" video on earlier.
Since you've done Cinderella, Frozen/the Snow Queen, and Beauty and the Beast, I'd like you to do Sleeping Beauty. It's my favorite classic Disney film.
+cmm07r My jaw dropped when I heard that crap. As if Elsa didn't have the whole world already, now they have to give her Cinderella's castle, too? I don't hate Elsa or Frozen for this, but oh my gosh, that is ridiculous! Why is it always FROZEN?!? D:
I'm pretty sure it was an April Fool's Joke. www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=17&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwiVzvD7xM7MAhXG1B4KHd4tDk0QFghqMBA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fcolumbiaspectator.com%2Fspectrum%2F2015%2F04%2F01%2Ftodays-best-april-fools-jokes&usg=AFQjCNFlfgy00UuQ8NmhzJvear7tuW56Pw&sig2=PbFX6-ytOBp5jm0RjNy0fA +AishaVonFossen

This! This is why I love classical cartooning! So much work went into them that doesn't happen with the computer works.
Next time someone mocks the work behind animation, show them this.
