I made the same thing a couple of years ago. At 4:43, what I did was insert - what I call the barrel - into my drill press and hold some fine sandpaper against the barrel to smooth down the sides.
You've got a great idea Mr. Immler. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the video. I think I will try making this, since I don't want to pay such a ridiculous price for a rolling sharpener. One change I might suggest to make this build more economical is to simply apply some tape to the center wood instead of spending all that time sanding and applying a finish to the wood.
Time is money. For the amount of time it takes to do that, especially if you don't have a belt sander, a strip of a suitable type of tape would be far cheaper. As in, for most people, if they spent that same amount of time at their jobs, they'd probably earn way, way more than the few cent cost of the tape spent.

Tolle Idee!
    Micron Paste super Ergebnisse erzielt.

Most of the labor and equipment used in this video is to make a rectangular piece of wood into a smooth cylinder shape. Most people do not have all of that equipment. It would be better to just make out of a wooden closet rod used for hanging coats. These are available at Home Depot or other hardware stores with a 1-inch diameter (25mm). I might try this. Thanks you for making so many great videos Felix.

This is a very interesting project. Never thought this was possible. I started collecting kitchen knives and was forced to learn how to sharpen them. Rechecked my victorinox and resharpen them. I use a 600 grit DMT plate and I find that I only need 1 pass to create a burr. Just honed them on a padreno rod then strop them on my belt 😂. Learning about steel and rockwell scale I learned that pocket knives are softer especially compared to japanese steel . Good thing I only collect them so need not sharpen them regularly. I started with German Knives and they serve me well. Rocking a wusthof classic and zwilling pro knives now. Back home in my country I saw a group selling used or previously owned japanese knives that are very very affordable so planning to add them soon as well on my future collection. Nonetheless victorinox swiss knives were my first collections together with Leatherman , sperdco and few opinels. The SAKs abd the PM2 are a breeze to resharpen. By the way, I was lured to knive collection turned hobby because of someone named Felix.😅
