@@FelixImmler Though I totally agree with Ronald, I am a regular not so sophisticated or professional "Joe" at sharpening :-b haha, something more simple please to get a good enough sharper result with the yellow stone bundled with the kits in Swiss champ (for example, or a cheaper sharpening stone) "?". Thank you very much in advance.
Impressive stuff Felix - i use my blade probably 3, 4 or 5 times a week and i sharpen it with a basic sweep and its good enough 90% of the time I'd blunt that right away, so a razor finish isn't necessary - but you're efforts to prove a point are mighty impressive
Good job. I am obsessed with razor sharp knives. All my knives are raroz sharp, including my swiss army knife. I use only sand papers from 400 to 1500 degree of graduation. Only first phase of sharpening, I do on 400 paper on the hard base below the sand paper until forming ''wire''. All folowing phases of sharpening I do gradually to 1500 degree sand paper on the soft base below the sand paper. Then I use leather strap with polish paste like old barbers and finish sharpening on dry leather strap. The result is mirror polished, frightfully sharp blade. It is cheap and relatively long lasting proces, but I am very proud of it.
I think that some kudos should go out to the sharpener also. That level of precision should be helpful to most everyone to be able to sharpen almost any knife blade to extreme sharpness. Your Victorinox is probably the sharpest I've seen, good job Felix.

wwooww, you have taken sharpening a Swiss Arm Knife to another level, don't know what the Manufacturers think but I am amazed at what you have achieved, Well done Felix, Cheers Ian from England
Thank you for the video. I appreciated watching your technique with multiple passes on one side of the blade to raise the burr before flipping the blade and working the opposite edge. I am new at this and have been alternating sides with each pass which is slow and not very effective in my hands.
Thank you for sharing this technique. I was able to grind down the small blade on my Swiss Champ into a whittling blade as demonstrated in your other video and sharpen it to approximately 17 degrees on each side and get it close to the sharpness you reached. Your videos furthered my appreciation for Victorinox knives and are why I decide to carry the Swiss Champ with me everywhere over the Leatherman Wave. Cheers!
This cutting of limp hair is amazing. Your sharpening skills are fantastic. The microscope views were for me an eyeopener, it makes sense why your blade is very sharp. Thank you for sharing.
Fantastic job Felix! Today I decided to sharpen the large blade of an old Victoria Officer. I used my KME and finished with my strop and achieved a hair shaving edge. Later I went for a walk and came back to this video on my feed. This video is over a year old and I'm sure it's no coincidence. What strange times we live in.
Hello Felix. I am totally amazed at how sharp you were able to get the knife. I have never seen a knife so sharp. You have encouraged me to do some sharpening. Thank you so much for all you do for the community. Merry Christmas my friend.
WOW, I have never seen that done before!. As always, I am always Amazed after watching your Videos....Thank you Felix....YOU, are the BEST!!!!!! Caio From the USA.......
Several years ago there was a guy on UA-cam that got his knife so sharp by hand that he could cut wet toilet paper and a hair like you demonstrated. Your point about the size of the granules in the steel is spot on. I tried dozens of knives, dozens and dozens of failed attempts. Then, one day I had success! Long story short, I found four different knives that worked. I showed it to my adult son so people would not think I was crazy. Of coarse I was probably crazy for trying it in the first place. :-) All my work was done by hand with various grade wet stones to a wet ceramic flat stone and strop with green compound. No machines. I was never able to cut a hair. - sad I tried the same experiment about 1 1/2 years ago with the exact knives and failed! Maybe my beat up hands have lost the dexterity? Maybe the TP was different? I have very sharp knives. They are NOT hair splitting sharp. That is a whole different level! I have never seen a SAK that sharp. Well done! Because of this video I thought for a second, I should give it a try again? Nope! I just stropped a few knives like I do everyday and got it out of my system! Again, well done. Thank you for posting!
Damn, now that's a very thorough vid with proof that those sharpeners work better than anything else I've seen to date, thanks for this vid,I know what sharpening system I need now , because it doesn't damage the knives and I have some expensive knives and I've always been hesitant about sharpening them simply because I was afraid of damaging the blade too much,I'm serious about that,,,thanks for this vid man really....
super video!
Peace Stephan :-)
I bought both of your two books a few days ago. I hope they will show me some survival advice for the woods and be able to have some fun with projects. I use a DMT sharpener and keep my sak knives sharp. May you have much happiness, wealth and good health in the future.
Would be interesting to see how long will the knife retain such sharp edge. For example, would it still be able to cut hair after slicing some wood few times or would that be enough to already deteriorate the edge.
Dear Felix, thank you for this video - you went into something like deep material science instead of making copy of the basic videos about how to sharpen a knive. That´s why your content is different an worth to watch. You did a great job, again! Greetings to Switzerland, regards: René
I need to get a sharpener like that! What a great tutorial on how to get a razor sharp edge! Thanks again for another great video! Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas!
That is seriously sharp! Thank you for the awesome content you put out. The secret is the stropping. My latest Spartan showed a BESS-score of 165 out of the box. After 5min of stropping I got it down to 85 and it was hair splitting sharp. The chisel grind on some knives are even easier because of the more acute sharpening angle. Stropped a brand new Skipper for a few minutes while watching this video, tested the knife and got the score 75. I usually maintain the blades just by stropping and if sharpening is needed I use Spyderco ceramic rods, freehand. They are super hard/fine grit and the set has 4 different shaped rods so you can do the serrations, too.
Wow, it got really sharp. In my case, the use of the blades is exclusively urban (I go fishing once a year in the Brazilian Pantanal), and I only use a leather strope to keep sharpening. Thanks for the tips and the nice class Felix! Best!!!
Fantastic video. I have used the spyderco sharp maker for over 10 years and then a leather strop. It has worked well enough for me, however I now want to take my sharpness to this level. Thank you for the effort and time spent making the video. Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones.
I have achieved a hair splinting edge with 440c, using a lansky, finishing with there 1000grit ceremic, yes it's cleaned with a rubber as oil dies remove the metal dust but seems to smooth out the ceramic stone I found. Good job, I chose 18degrees. Enjoyed the microscope shots. 👍 I also found your axe sharpening video to be a great help. Thank you.
That’s a SHARP blade! Good job brother 👍🏼 I usually just use a strop and I started with the “2 penny jig”. Just 2 pennies glued together to give me the angle to strop at. AWSOME video as always!
Thats the reason why I give you always one of my knifes for a sharpening check each time we meet. The answer after you set the blade to you hair is....yes Taro its okey.....not more and also only because you feel sorry for me. LOL 🙂 thanks for the demonstration! Taro
I love the views through the microscope. That’s definitely sharp. Thanks for taking the time and effort to make this excellent video.

Would you prefer victorinox to use a harder steel for the main blade on the popular models, if so what steel would it be ?
I was told it was easier to cut a grey hair this way but still needs alot of skill and the right blade

Thanks for this hint. Ma opener is not really sharp but he works since 40 years!
