Amazing to realize that many elderly and infirmed may have slowly died alone not knowing a simple procedure on how to get back up! Knowledge is power. You've saved many lives with this. THANK YOU, Bob and Brad!
Last week I was having a problem getting up off the floor, I had to ask someone I did not know if they could help me, that was so embarrassing, thanks for the video, I will be practicing this so that if I am physically having a bad day again I will be able to get up on my own.
I work retail, and wearing dress clothes while trying to get on and off the floor (with stiff legs and hips no less) is the worst. I will try to incorporate these into the day to day routine whenever possible
Thank you gentlemen! I use those motions/techniques, I believe I’ve learned them from body mechanics classes in school( I was an RT for X-RAY, CT and MRI in human medicine for 21 years and then I changed my profession...I am a Veterinary MRI Technologist/Technical Coordinator for AnimalMR. Both jobs require the use of “good” body mechanics whether working with humans or animals. I work on the floor more often at the animal hospital than at an out patient facility for humans. I enjoy your PSA on how yo do something a certain way to make it easier on your body(like this message) I walk away from your videos with at least 2 new good ideas to apply in my life or someone I know. Thanks! I enjoy all of your hard wofk
I just love these videos. It is so cool to see how much this channel has grown since I started watching way back. You guys are really helping so many people. I get more from you than my own PT. Thank you for helping me and so many!
Thank you for showing me how to get up!!! I did a face plant on my tile floor 2 wks ago. I was lucky CT scan all normal. Now I’m in PT strength building. Karen in TX 80 yrs old
Thanks, guys. A few weeks ago my back was so stiff I could barely bend over to tie my shoes. I found a couple of your videos and they were very helpful. I am doing much better now. Thanks again for the work you do.
I have two knee replacements and can't kneel, hurts too much. I also don't have strong thigh muscles. If I'm on the ground, I can't use any of those ideas, but what I can do is scoot to a couch or bed and do a backbend up onto to piece of furniture and roll my body over onto the seat. I'm 5'8" and overweight and old, just fyi. I think my height helps a bit. I've used this process 6 or 8 times. It's a struggle, but it's better than waiting until someone can come and help you. Just thought I'd share.
Okay, now I'm sure you're psychic! Just last week, I was hoping you'd make a video about getting up after a fall. I do try to use this method, but it takes a long time, as I don't seem strong enough now, and knees are very painful. I don't think I should practice this to get stronger, as I may not be able to get up again. 🤪 More ideas on this would be very helpful! Great video! Thanks!
My problem is that the surface of my knees hurts terribly if I get down on them. I have no idea what causes it, but it really makes it difficult to get up. My husband and daughter came up with the idea of using a blow up bed to help me so that we don’t have to call 911 when I fall. They place the twin-size bed next to me on the floor and I roll onto the center. They then pump the bed up, I place my feet on the floor and stand up. It has saved us a lot of frustration! I am also in PT to strengthen my core, straighten my gait, and help my balance which has been off for several years following a craniotomy for a benign brain tumor. Thank you so much for these videos! They do help! Oh, and for reference, I am 70.
My knees are bad, too. When I fall, I try to reach any kind of pad or blanket or something, and put it where my knees are going to be, as I try to get up. It helps a lot, but I haven't had knee surgery. Be careful!
Useful! I was just practicing this today!! Looked on your amazon page for weight training products. Maybe an exercise incline board for working with weights??
My weak leg (hip) and shoulder are on opposite sides 😭 I just really try not to (intentionally) get down on the floor. Your videos have been really helpful!
Bob and Brad, your videos are a blessing. Request you to make a video for comfortable sleeping positions for people who are recovering from Pulmonary embolism.
This is pretty much how I get up from the floor, but realize that the twisting and forward flexion isn’t best for those with osteoporosis. Would you speak to that?

@@cynthiadianecarey9902 I actually do know a way. You sit on your butt, put both hands on the floor on one side, then raise yourself on those hands and the opposite foot. Then you step onto the other foot to a runner's starting pose. Sort of like this video - ua-cam.com/video/Q9VsxiE_iQU/v-deo.html

Can you guys address the longevity study which addresses the correlation to being able to stand with fewer contact points with the ground....the fewer the more likely you will live longer..
Just to add I did Aikido (where you spend about half your time getting on and off the floor) - we were taught that its better to use your knuckles instead of your palm. The reason is if you slip while transitioning you are much likely to break one of the small bones in your hand if you use your palm, but you will only skin/bruise your nuckles. [edit: added a bit more description at the end]
This still would not work for me! Had complete knee replacement in July 02. Horrible fluid retention and the right knee is needing it. For now I will do chair exercises and those I can stand. I hold onto my sink. Raise legs to strengthen.
I tried to do something like this and my left arm would not support me. I hit the floor with my face. I almost broke my nose. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to get up from the floor again.
Once Upon A Time, they used to Kneel Down for us and now, even we can't Kneel Down for ourselves. Amma put my Sinatra Disc "September Of My Years" on and 😭
My grandpa has an alert system. He wears a little watch that looks like a fitbit. It has a base he can also push for help. The agency who provides it put a key box on the door. They are able to call 911, and give the EMT the key code. I'd also suggest if you have friends you talk to often, try to arrange a regular check in. For example if you don't call them by bedtime they know to check on you. You can stay in your home with a little outside help!

All great tips. I find that loud grunting while getting up drowns out the creaking, cracking and popping noises that come with age.

Any tips on getting back up when you cannot put pressure on your knees?
Knees feel like unprotected bones (like elbows) so it is difficult to put pressure on them.
