    The ruining of AWA isn't recognized enough. Beyond Hogan, they lost a hall of fame class: The Rockers, Road Warriors, Perfect, Slaughter, Rick Martel, Adrian Adonis. A generational ravishing. For the first decade of my wrestling random, I was told by WWE that Mr. Perfect was "the greatest wrestler to never win a world title". What an insult.

      If wwe won that war, it was only because they were being beaten by the spoilt representative of a billionaire with an ace to grind and once wwf started to actually respond with a couple of punches the billionaires operation just absolutely tanked. Wwe will get beaten up for a while, but show resilience and fight and wcw are just beating a dead horse until the horse reveals it isn't dead and then wcw just suck their thumb and get completely destroyed. What an absolutely shitty war really lol, all wwf had to dp was buck up their ideas a bit and wcw had the white flags ready. That was a pathetic company, they had some extra wcw shows with panelists like Bobby Heenan, Schiavone and others and it was all so self defeating, the leadership in that company just wilted as soon as things got a little tougher. That wasn't a war, it was an invasion where as soon as one country started driving out the other country the other country just fell apart.

    By far, the promotion I miss the most is WCW. Not so much for the last three years of its existence (or the equally dreadful 1995), but the periods of 1992-1994 and 1996-1998 WCW were what made me a wrestling fan in the first place. In addition to my all-time favorite wrestler in Sting, 1992 WCW also had a terrific midcard with the likes of "Stunning" Steve Austin, "The Natural" Dustin Rhodes and Cactus Jack, among others. Jump ahead to WCW's best year ever in 1997, and you've got their greatest long-term angle with the nWo vs. Sting along with (once again) a spectacular midcard. I'm having loads of fun nowadays with AEW, but I don't know that they can ever reach the heights that WCW once did.

      AEW have made it clear that they don't want to be at war with WWE so they may never go that far
      that said AEW is basically the modern day WCW since most of their shows are in contention with WWE for viewers and are definitely going to continue getting better as time moves on but if another "war" were to start with them and WWE it'll definitely be WWE that strikes first given AEW want to just do their own thing

      @Christopher Marriott:
      The problem is that digital content gives viewers so much to choose from, meaning that pro wrestling has a much tougher time finding a mainstream audience.
      Plus modern viewers simply don't have the same attention span, and the death of kayfabe makes it harder for casual fans to get invested. It's not impossible for wrestling to attain a boom period again, but it's unlikely to happen until it is seen as cool again.

Even in TV14 attitude era, there was less pro-satanic meanings and symbolism. Just Kane, Taker, and the brood. But in this "kids era" you got so much possessions, people speaking in reverse, people with "a evil dark side", demonic characters telling us to "join them", flashing the pyramid with the eye, everything seems to be about losing yourself to your inner darkness. Georgia Championship Wrestling can be more blamed on Jim Crockett Promotions being sold to Ted Turner than anything Vince did. JCP was doing record business and record TBS ratings AFTER TBS dumped Vince and put JCP back on in it's place. As for ECW, that wasn't on WWE either. Correction on #5: USWA was actually a merger between WCCW and CWA out of Memphis and way originally co-owned and Kevin Von Erich and Jerry Jarrett. Jerry Lawler made regular appearances because he was the CWA's top draw. WCCW actually pulled out of the partnership in 1990, leaving the company to essentially be a re-branded CWA. The WWE co-promotion stuff happened in 1992 and is what eventually led Jerry Lawler to go to WWE.

    A good list, but the AWA should be higher. At the time of Vince's first raid the AWA was the #1 territory in the country and was on the verge of inking a national prime time wrestling deal with CBS. Vince built his national launch off of AWA talent. It was much more than Hogan, he took Bobby Heenan, Mean Gene, Jessie Ventura and others. On top of this, Vince went to the stations across the country and undercut Verne to take away his huge TV market. After that the AWA continued for a few years, but Vince kept raiding any young talent (such as Sherry Martel or Curt Henning) that they developed. He targeted them much harder than any other U.S. promotion.

One night was ECW, three other small promotions got a slot, and Wednesday night belonged to SMW. The one thing that I remember about the show was that Jim Cornette was managing a big ol' hoss of a wrestler who they named The Punisher.
