As for George, he was as powerful as they come but he never could stop reaching out to stop blows from too far away, or pulling back with his hands down. Counter-puncher's delight, and that's how Ali got him. Liston was more controlled and just as strong, but like Jimmy Young, he had some bad breaks that he partly brought on himself. All were great fighters, with real personalities embodied in their ring styles, unlike many of the plodders and maulers who came after them..

Tyson once said that Foreman was a better boxer than most people thought when he made his comeback in the 90's and that most didn't realize just how good he actually was. Foreman was an extremely good boxer and was at the height or pro level because he could do more than just hit harder that 99% of any heavyweight. Foreman was not an inside fighter and he either clinched or pushed when an opponent got inside. He improved as an inside fighter during his comeback, perhaps due in part to being coached by Archie Moore. Foreman won with sheer aggression and strength but when that was not enough he could look clumsy and foolish. Jimmy Young could not punch very well but he developed skills that compensated.

Wouldn't surprise me if there wasn't a bit of mafia match fixing occasionally, norton losing in the 2nd would've been long odds, he was as strong as an ox. The background on the fight is interesting, fought in Venezuela to avoid tax and then their govt reneges on that and demands tax from both purses, not letting them leave. Also Don king financed the whole thing via a construction millionaire from cleveland called Lombardo, but foreman was the clear favourite so.
George made the mistake of coasting the rounds so Jimmy would tire but George got tired. If he came out punching by the 4th round Jimmy would have been exhausted
I agree. I watched that as a kid and I was a big Boxing fan. Jimmy Young no doubt should have got the decision. Maybe even unanimous at that. It being Ali and that Young didn’t knock him out they gave it to Ali.

This fight to me was very reminiscence of the, rumble in the jungle,only with less ropa dope,and holding George's head down. In fact, to me this was a more entertaining fight to watch. In either case the big man didn't have the stamina,to go the distance.

The fight in Africa was horrible and corrupt, clay should have been disqualified for all the illegal holding and wrestling. One of the worst fights ever. I hated Young's style, but it worked for him. He did make everyone look bad. Gave Ali and Norton fits as well.
