I bought the same model. Switched out all electronics and wiring. Put Seymour Duncan jazz on the neck and a JB on the bridge. Made a world of difference. Beautiful sounding guitar with the new pickups/pots/wiring and switch
I have the same guitar in red and I love it...I have owned Johnny Smith, Es175, super 400, Super Eagle, many Ibanez jazz boxes, Epis, and for the money I really like this guitar a lot...not as good I am sure as the others, but for the money, I dont see how you can go wrong...for me, its the neck size and feel...it really fits my hand better than any of the others. Nice review and great playing ! Thanks
Totally agree with you on the "feel" of these guitars. They feel higher quality and play more easier than the price tag would suggest. That is great to hear that you have been able to compare the J-6 head to head with other high caliber archtops like those from Heritage and Gibson and the humble Washburn J-6 came out as a top contender! Enjoy your guitar and thanks for the nice words and for sharing your perspective. -Tom.
I had two, a J6 sunburst and a J6S natural (identical to yours). The PUs are great, but I would humbly suggest you swap the neck PU for a Gibson ‘57. You will be stunned by the difference. It’s the only improvement I’d consider. The case is great, but weight tons. If you play out often, consider a simpler bag. Cheers!
Hi, no problem, I used an Audio Technica AT2035 large diaphragm condenser mic into a Scarlett 2i2 audio interface. I think I had the guitar plugged directly into the interface, too. Thanks for listening!
Great guitar as I'm shopping for a Washburn J6 ! I own a Samick JZ2 La Salle (L5 copy) which was about $400-$500, has the same dimensions as yours and sounds like the Washburns as well with the Greg Bennet pickups it came with. They are made in Korea. I did a quick demo on my channel. Let me know if you would like to listen to it and I will send you the link.
I've been searching for the last 6 months for an L5 clone, or something as close as possible, and this looks like it's fitting the bill...I'm seeing one for about $550? I have had a couple Ibanez artcore guitars and they've been great, but they don't really have that L5/super 400 size/material type..They've all been lam maple, which is cool, but I want that spruce top and full depth!! So do you still feel this is a good L5 analog ??
Yes, I think this guitar does a great job for the money of capturing a large part of the tone and aesthetic of an L5CES. Swap out the front humbucker for a Gibson 57 classic and you’ll have a hard time telling the difference when listening to a recording of the tone of this guitar versus an L5. The L5 would be better built and be a treasured work of art of a guitar- no doubt they are better than a J6 if you must have the best and settle for no less, but this Washburn is a true bargain that nails the vibe of an L5 better than anything else I’ve found in this price range.
@@sixstringspice5257 I'm just looking to get a good "Player"..Silly we call them "Players" since thats what ALL guitars are buiult for but yeah, I'm just looking for a budget L5 copy, and I've had a few Artcores and I really want that L5 vide/tone..Esprecially the spruce tope and full depth sides.
Mine has a very dark rosewood fingerboard. Right, it almost looks like the ebony you'd see on a high end Gibson L5CES with multi-ply fingerboard binding, but it is rosewood. Thanks for your question and stay well. -Tom
Based on your somewhat judgmental and slightly mean spirited comment, It seems as though you are not aware of my other older videos in which I play this guitar extensively?
Complain, complain, complain. Maybe you should talk less and view more of his videos - he's got tons of playing on this guitar. Note the title here: "Guitar Review", that is exactly what he did here! Oh yea, checked out your channel. ONE subscriber. There ya go...
For anyone interested, here's a link to a higher quality photo of the top on this guitar. Very nice grain pattern with some "bearclaw" occurring in what appears to be the spruce top. facebook.com/photo?fbid=10157721586027694&set=basw.AbrdTH_cdg-zGmciwH5aQeBd2okbI-ZdWbazJt7Y_4fi2vpJz8Bi0lzXL4CDADMAn_SGu6l8GI_LcrvCiPJ5hziwSJI3nfoVfXRrUmdj2pgkYVdq01UIEGZ85xvlt9ntqHV9FIbMxzfTdn85nW1PS_L5&opaqueCursor=Abp0uP7SQwv3nMlArmIdTZsEY13ie-ViXgYHdkKobUIFcsOmsgnAIlMWLqWAoA9w2mYDzfzWTAo73kWo-FjY2CZAWNDXXerhvzoGewlKtnV4k6-lG0LbvdLu07je1QU8vCfmj3om_X7_tjw1oCXdjHTbt43Cd2SEwm-fo0IWPAIV5chnCFPLdbfIg2zin9zyeEWpfmLPPInInUHzhBjfaCEyvEMBphQw4hf23absFh-HxXiBQeZZEXlWzvYrE46YWQsiM3AXMjN_cPCzG1Vy1s_x3_3PnFF43K8__sNoLeRGAHMSWBZUnHOTGjKDGbAR5q4oWvTSgYu5nfvjuW86rjW7sYsufeGCxNtE-QKL4330-RsjJ5KsimhQcQkXesVfd1T6Oax3b5gZ-79jhsuPLTY5skz8MZyKnngDXXlq2XcHfAtB2wI3svJUG6IsSDdknZtO-tBVQNApa8Kutfk9c9B5TNtXBGRnZ32fVFNo8NojlRwe3_vUNp9UeCLNeOsH-9xyXX7RgAEhgRnyMqeS0pl3RbDmcL8_JpGfU9FDT1A5zxn6SndRN7g2HL-IZXoCob0

Great, personable review of the humble, but much-loved J-6!
Love it! What is the length of the body?

Lovely and personal review.
Thank you so much!
I had a j6 montgomery natural, looking for another,in good condition, John
beautiful guitar, amazing guitar skills. Try to remove the scratch plate... on my ibanez was the source of the rattling
I have got one. The grain on mine is even more impressive.
Very cool, as a fellow Washburn J-6 fan, I think I would enjoy seeing a picture (or video) of it if possible? Thanks, Tom
It sounds so good, how do you record it .?? What’s your recording devices? May I know. Thanks

Round wound strings fixed the rattle for me
Hi does the S have an Ebony Fingerboard looks like it

SixStringSpice Ok thanks Tom you to and all the best with your playing that’s a nice guitar.
Graham.
The "S" stands for Sycamore.
S for sycamore bromigo
All guitars have intonation problems.
talk, talk talk, he needs to play it, that would help.
